The Olive Grove in Cambridge

Really wanted to love it - but falls short in many ways sadly. The service could be more considerate and accommodating to the people they are serving.

My friends and I visited the Olive Grove for a lovely long lunch on a recent trip to Cambridge. We shared lots of starters and small dishes and all were absolutely delicious. The service was warm but not intrusive. We were surprised it wasn’t busier. We loved it so much we returned for dinner a couple of nights later after a terrible experience at a nearby restaurant. Once again the food was fabulous and the service friendly. I would highly recommend and look forward to returning when back in the area.

Great Greek food, highly recommended

Lovely interior and very luxurious looking restaurant however the food and service was not quite on point. Calamari was great, however it came with such a small amount of sauce so I asked for bit more and I realised they charged extra fee for that which I don’t quite understand. Prawns saganaki was good too however not much prawns in the dish. Mains were very disappointing, pork chop looking amazing but most of the part is over cooked and therefore very dry. The sauce definitely does not go well together either, should be rather like Smokey bbq or something very moist sauce. Mixed grill was the same, mostly all overcooked and gets very dry half way through. Nothing special with sausage, chicken was better than lamb as it was super well done cooked, kofta not very juicy, definitely needs more seasoning. Not sure if I should have tried other mains but clearly grills are having big problems. Other Mediterranean restaurants have far better quality of meat and cooking techniques. Now I understand why some people got disappointed of the foods. Service was quite slow and two young boys were very inexperienced and unprofessional. Especially one with very informal outfit was horrendous, should fix the attitude and looks absolutely lost all the time. Willing to give another try for this restaurant at some point as it just needs bit better service and improvement on grills.

I won’t comment about the food as you claim to have better food than Greek (blasphemy) so I will point out the service. Costumer has the right to choose the food and not to eat whatever will be served…let alone the courtesy of the staff. At least thank you and goodbye, basics!

Definitely not authentic greek.

We've had delivery from The Olive Grove before quite a few times and always enjoyed it, hence ordering again. Tonight, though, it was really disappointing. The lettuce in the souvlaki gyros was brown, really no exaggeration, I should have taken photos, it was just old and brown lettuce, sadly. We also ordered an extra portion on chips, it's a fair size box, but it was only half full, this felt like a really tiny portion for £5. Shame as the cups were tasty with herb seasoning on. Sadly, overall it was a really disappointing meal. Delivery was in good time.

Years ago this was a place where the owners took pride in their restaurant. The atmosphere was amazing, very authentic and I loved coming here. I’ve been here twice recently and can honestly say I won’t be back. It’s so disappointing. It was busy but not full when we were there, yet we had to ask to be able to order drinks. The same for our food order. I received something I hadn’t ordered, clearly no care was being taken at all. Staff are definitely not trained and whilst they’re friendly enough it certainly feels more like a tourist trap than a nice restaurant. The food tastes fine, but the atmosphere and the surroundings are cold and uncomfortable. We sat upstairs at the table near the stairs so someone constantly barged into us. We could also watch the waiters come up the stairs with food constantly not knowing which table it was for. It was embarrassing. One of the toilets was out of order and the other one seemed blocked. All in all it was just poor compared to what it used to be and what you pay. A little bit of staff training and customer care and pride can go a long way. Plenty of alternatives in the area….

Amazing food and atmosphere in restaurant but please put in a new toilet suite.

My daughter and I went to the Olive Grove for dinner. The food was very disappointing. Feta/spinach pie was not baked properly and filo pastry was soggy. Lamb Shank was served cold so we asked for it to be sent back to the kitchen. Portion of vegetable that came with lamb was tiny and bland. The toilet is very old , dirty and not functional. Only one toilet for the whole restaurant which is disgraceful.

No reliable availability for takeout/delivery

Very disappointed meal. I had been there before covid and liked the food. However it is not the same now. We were taken to a table in the corner between several large groups and there was bearly any space. I askes for another table because there are still a few around and almost empty downstairs and was told straight no because other people have booked specificly for all of the other tablea even though I made my booking more than a week ago. It took ages for them to come and serve us. At this point I didnt mind too much but the food was so disappointing, the lamb leg was so chewy and burnt on the side. Both lamb and potatoes were tastless, I really struggled to eat. My greek coffee came in such a tiny cup and half of it was dark solid god knows what, it was really disgusting. Some restaurants have average services but the food makes it up. Some have average food but service is good. This one has neither. I definitely wont go back.

We are regular visitors to the Greek islands and saw this restaurant as we were staying over for the Half Marathon the next day. Busy atmosphere and good service. Food choices excellent and like the review before, the Pork Chop is a must (You don't need a starter ) Minor moan - get the beers in the fridge early and ice cold before serving ! Prices exceptionally good.

The pork chop portion is good but bit plain.

The atmosphere was a bit strange, the whole of upstairs was empty and a group was put next to us when there were lots of other tables free. The upstairs was cold. The food was nice. Everyone enjoyed the food and the waiters were attentive and nice. If the upstairs had heating it would be more welcoming. I wasn’t too keen on the aubergine dip, it didn’t taste bad it was mainly the texture.

Slightly over priced but 6 people in our group all happy with their food.

Bit confused by this place....tried to book table for 1800 on Saturday night but told that full unless arriving at 1730...so we took this option. Resteraunt then remained nearly half empty until we left at 1920.. bit confused as to why no tables at 1800. No worries though, food was alright..and I mean alright. Moussaka was lots of sauce and mince..not really tasty, mixed grill had lamb in which could not even cut....rest OK.....group of young teenagers arrived and waitresses clearly knew and chatted away with them next to us...do not think we will return and suggest trying other establishment....

The staff here are absolutely superb: they could not be more helpful or welcoming. The food, meanwhile, is both authentic and delicious. We will definitely be visiting again!

Chicken thigh, octopus and bread are the best.

Great, intimate restaurant. A little pricey on Valentine’s Day, but the experience was very positive… welcoming staff, excellent food and relaxing atmosphere.

A good place with friendly staff: friendly enough to let us eat 40 minutes before closing. We had Kofta and Greek salad: pretty much good-looking and tasty. Greek salad is one of my favorite, I cook it myself, and this one was delicious and filling. I would put less oil due to the calorie count, but it's my own preferences, you might find it good. Due to the time, there were not many people,so we enjoyed our time. The only thing, I would recommend changing the owner to renew the upholstery on furniture. No hard feelings, it would give the place more attractiveness it deserves. thanks!

We went to Cambridge for a 2 night stay, found this place on day two and I went back again on the third day before we headed back home. Food was good, we tried lamb shank, chicken thighs, Greek pizza, were all really good and their pork chop was massive! Service was good, the place was very relaxed but nice. It’s perfect for large group or family with kids and the atmosphere was welcoming but not overwhelming. Would definitely go back again when we visit Cambridge again. Reasonable price too

Pretty nice food Only reason for not 5 stars is the vegetable side ordered was just more potatoes with about 4 vegetables on top. Nothing wrong with them just all the meals already have tons of potato wedges in them (too much probably) so we wanted vegetables like the ones provided but a whole bowl of them not extra potato wedges with a dressing of veg on top. (guess pots are cheap and plentiful) Apart from that very decent food The orange hummus with chili or whatever was very nice and I hate hummus usually The pita was fresh and tasty Lamb a touch chewy if I’m honest but pretty amazing flavour. Staff friendly and service fast.

We booked for a group a 14 (only 11 came in the end). We had a great dinner. The food is excellent and the friendly staff is providing a superb service. Will come back for sure!

I'm really happy to celebrate my birthday there. I loved the nice table set for us, the friendly service, and the fact that they frequently came and asked us if we needed anything. The upstairs seemed to be reserved for us and my friends also enjoyed it very much. Definitely a place to go for special celebrations. Thank you very much for everything <3

Vegetarian food options are limited

I know this plce for more than 4 years and always had good food. But "the cherry on the cake" was allways the pork chop. It is big, perfectly roasted and extremely juicy. It comes with all assortments like pitta bred, oven roasted potato and greek salad - marvelous! I will strongly reccommend this this meal with couple biers or a bottle of white wine. Bon appetit!

Good food but service needs to be improved.

Went for dinner this evening with a friend first time of going had heard it was very good and typical Greek food which I actually found very disappointing. We both ordered pork.When it arrived at the table we were both very put off by the size of the pork chop it was way too big. My friend went to cut into her meat and it was very undercooked mine was cooked but both chops had so much fat on them,and also it wasn't very tender. My friend told the waiter it was very pink "he said its supposed to be"! I said no it's not it isn't cooked properly he asked if my friend would like another one so she agreed he took back to the kitchen, then returned with the same pork chop which had obviously been recooked further, but still appeared to be pink. Not once did the waiter come over and ask was everything OK. We asked for the bill which I then said I would like the service charge taken off which they did so. All I can say is I won't be going back there again.

Due to an allergy specifically asked for no tomatoes but came with loads on, I just threw it in the bin as as kept waiting for 45 mins for a takeaway sandwich and i couldnt sit through that again Even the uber driver was getting impatient outside. They weren't even busy... The lad behind the counter was spot on though it weren't his fault

For a party 13 they took a very long time on getting drinks once we got drinks they also took time for getting our starters out. And again we had to ask for more bottles of water. 2nd round of drinks they could not cater for as they said they had ran out and did not have enough staff so they said they will give us a bottle of house white on the house but was not enough for everyone food tasted great staff are pleasant and very helpful thank you. If you book a party be prepared. Thank you

Great restaurant, the food was delicious, the service was great and the set up was really nice. Definitely recommend the place and will go back to enjoy more of the lovely things they have to offer.

Service here is good - we were greeted warmly on arrival and the staff were attentive all evening. Menu is a bit odd as it has quite a few non-Greek dishes on there (e.g. risotto, tagine, peri-peri flavoured hummous) but there was plenty of traditional food to choose from as well. We ordered calamari tiganito and halloumi sticks to start, then kotsi kleftiko and mixed grill for main. Everything tasted delicious and the portions were very generous - in fact, I think we would have preferred smaller portions at lower prices, as the bill was definitely on the high side for a chain. Overall we had a very nice evening and would happily eat here again, though it maybe wouldn’t be our no.1 choice.

We dined here on 2nd December and had a great dining experience. The waiting staff were polite and courteous. The food was of a very high quality and, the greek wine was was an absolute delight. Although we had an early reservation by the end of our meal the place had a practically full tables. We wouldn't hesitate to return.

Mezeler buyuk porsiyon ve lezzetliydi, benzer lezzetlere kendi mutfağından aliskin bir Turk olarak her sey beklendigi gibiydi. Salata ve kalamar da ortalama ustuydu, begendik. Ahtapot distan sert gibiydi ama ici yumusak ve izgara tadini cekmis lezzetteydi. Saganaki aliskin oldugumuz gibi degil, peyniri az domates sosu fazlaydi ve karides adedi bence azdi. Tek hayalkirikligi ouzoydu. Siseli ouzo servis etmiyorlar, sadece kadeh alabiliyorsunuz. Ilk tur ickiler cin bardaginda bol buzlu susuz kar beyaz servis edildi. Ikinci turda ise viski bardaginda servis geldi. Ouzonun kardesi raki seven birisi olarak, ouzonun sek ve kendi bardaginda, yaninda opsiyonel buz ve sulu servis edilmesini tercih ederdim. Rakida gelenektir, raki asla dogrudan buzla bulusmaz, kristallesme yapar, ya sek icilir ya da once soguk su eklenir sonra buz eklenir. Yunanistanda birkac yerde ouzo icmisligim de var tecrubem farkliydi, ama en nihayetinde restoran tercihi tabii ki. Gidecek ve bu detayi onemseyeceklere sadece kucuk bir not :) Bunun disinda kesinlikle tavsiye!!

The food was lovely, however the atmosphere was a bit awkward and uncomfortable. There was no music and there was about four other tables in the restaurant and you could hear everything they were saying. It was very strange. You also can’t order from the street food menu in the evening which was a bit disappointing. Staff were friendly enough although I did notice them pointing and laughing at our table at one point which again just made us feel uncomfortable. Can’t fault the food, although would have liked the option to order from the street food menu as the website suggests.

We ate caciki, smoked aubergine mezze, Greek salad, garides saganaki, octopus and fried calamari. First, all the waitresses were very polite, caring and kind. Mezzes and salad were big portioned and delicious and were as expected. Saganaki dish is dominated by tomato sauce (tasty) but fewer garides and less saganaki cheese than expected. Octopus seems stiff but soft and delicious inside. Calamari is standard and tasty. Only disappointment was the ouzo. Restaurant does not serve bottled ouzo but only glasses ones. For me, it would be lovely if we can order a small bottle and/or a service of plain ouzo in ouzo glass with optional ice and water would be preferable. Thanks for everything and we will come here again to try lamb dish. Highly recommended!!

The staff are pleasant & service was good , portions were large & food was nice . Unfortunately the venue is very cold & the ladies toilet was extremely cold . Some of the party were shivering because of the temperature in the restaurant. Would of been a more pleasant evening if it was warmer in the venue.

Had a lovely meal om Saturday eve in the topnfloornof the restaurant. All our food was excellent, with thr prawn orzo ad the highlight!

Service was good and food was great - two of us had the Mixed Grill which was a huge plate of very tasty food - probably too much for most people but very good value for money. The shish kebab was a little overcooked but everything else was excellent and very enjoyable - I especially enjoyed the Greek Sausage. What was slightly disappointing was 10% service charge put on the bill. Given we were the only customers in the restaurant (apart from a few people collecting takeaways) it did feel a bit excessive.

The staff are the most genuinely kind hearted people. The service was excellent. Best lamb I have ever had! Will be back again and again.

Lovely restaurant and good food

Salad was basic. - tomatoes soggy, minimal taste and swamped on feta cheese ; salaya overwhelmed with garlic; mousakka mediocre and v expenzive for such small portions. £6 to serve food on top of that too! Wont be back or recommenin g. Tagine wasnt a real tagine either.

I love the food here. Extensive menu selection, if a little pricey, but there are also delicious cheaper options, like the wraps.

This restaurant is not coeliac-friendly. The staff did not provide the assistance and support I expected; instead, they seemed indifferent and gave unhelpful responses. It was the first time in my life that I felt uncomfortable in a restaurant due to my coeliac condition. The dinner was a disappointing experience. At least food for the rest of customers was fine.

We went for a light lunch 10/10.23. The food was fine , certainly a 3 star. But the ladies serving started to paint, yes paint!! the other empty wooden tables ( we were the only diners). I can honestly say that that was a unique experience. Not impressed.

The food and wine we’re quite good, but it took an hour and a half to get our food from when we were seated. This was even after we asked where our food was after an hour. It seems as if they prioritize take-away rather than diners in their restaurant. The sofas and chairs also looked line they could use a cleaning.

Customer service is very poor ,and the staff is very rude they don’t know how to talk to customer I suggest no one to go this pace

Very good food, good sized portions

If you’re looking for something Greek and appetising this is the right place. Food takes a while to come as it been cooked on demand and the portions are fit for a king. Me and my partner are very pleased with the service and the quality of the food . We would definitely visit again next time we are in Cambridge Area

We visited the Olive Grove during our holiday in Cambridge, which had been recommended to us. We were greeted by friendly staff upon our arrival and led to a table for two. The staff provided every assistance in selecting the food and drink. The food was well presented and prepared and it was very tasty. We selected a Greek wine to accompany our meal. The staff provided excellent service throughout to give us an enjoyable dining experience. We most certainly would recommend the Olive Grove to family members and/or friends.

Food and service was good. Aye of the street menu and had trad gyros. Delicious 😋 staff, friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend. Atmosphere was quite, because we ate mid afternoon so as to miss the rush👍

Had an amazing lunch here with my girlfriend. Love Greek food and it lives up to expectations. Reading some of the reviews below are disappointing because they are petty reasons for a low rating. Would 100% recommend and will be going again soon.

We booked a table at the Olive Grove for lunch for 5 and ended up being extremely disappointed. We wanted to have some greek food so found one close to where we parked so the plan was to book the table for later so we can have lunch and drive back to Oxford but the restaurant had a twist in mind. They don't allow dogs anywhere in the restaurant! The restaurant was empty and the website has an FAQ which doesn't specify anything about the apparent unfriendliness towards dogs. We wasted 30mins walking back to the town centre to find a decent dog friendly restaurant. Very disappointed and not recommended!

Visited on a Saturday night. Amazing food, and amazing service despite how busy it was (there were 2 large parties in on top of the usual Saturday night attendance). I had the feta and spinach pastry to start, and the orzo and prawn pasta dish for mains - both were delicious and fresh. I also had some of my boyfriend’s halloumi fries and they were excellent. He had the lamb for mains and said it was really good. Very generous portions too! Can’t wait to return.

Saturday evening visit. Probably a mistake to pick that day, as Cambridge seems to 'heave' on Saturdays, in summer at least. Pub across the road had plastic glasses and bouncers front and back (real glasses and no bouncers Friday/Sunday), so maybe restaurants go down-market on Saturdays? Anyway, back to the Olive Grove. First off - the good part - our server was very pleasant and efficient - top marks! Unfortunately, that's about it for the positives. We asked for a couple of 'appetizers' - Tzatziki and Hummus - and were horrified to see two soup bowl sized portions arrive, filled to the brim with the said Tzatziki and Hummus respectively, with pitta bread on the side. It wasn't what we expected as 'appetizer' sized portions and really couldn't manage to get through more than a couple of spoonfuls, they were so grossly oversized and off-putting. Mains were pretty badly presented too - there was far too much food placed on the plates. I had Kofta - with two very long and large portions of lamb placed on top of oily fried chips of potatoes and watery cabbage (I think it was cabbage), with 4 small pitta breads on the same plate! The plate was almost literally overflowing with too much food, and not in a good way. Plus the whole dish tasted wayyyy over salted and I couldn't manage much of it for that reason alone. My wife had a similar experience with the chicken, presented as it was in like manner to my Kofta. After a few brave efforts to lift a forkful or two, we called it a day - the food had won! We just wanted to leave at that stage. Our decision to quit was helped by the establishment shutting down the beautiful air-conditioning we had been enjoying (it was 27 degrees outside!) and the room started to heat up like an oven! Definitely time to go. One other thing occurs - the tacky feel to the banisters/rail leading to the upper floor was a bad omen for things to come. Maybe we caught the restaurant on an off day but, really, even though it's not an expensive menu, some greater effort should be made by the management to make the food at least presentable.

I ate here today with my husband and I can honestly say its one of the best meals we have had out in a LONG time! We visit Greece every year where we adore the Greek food & our meal was just as delicious and authentic as the meals we have there. Everything was freshly cooked to perfection with great flavours & the service was very good. We will definitely be back, next time we visit Cambridge!

We had an amazing meal here! We over-ordered to try different things (we haven’t got a Greek restaurant near us) and everything was delicious. We sat upstairs and I’d recommend this, as I think downstairs gets busy with people coming and going for order collections. The staff were spot on and I just wish we lived nearer, as we’d be regulars!

We headed to The Olive Grove on a Friday night and had booked a table for 8pm. Upon arrival there was a slight delay in our table being ready, so had to stand in the entrance for about 8-10 minutes. Once seated, our table was slightly cramped, as it was squeezed in between two other tables. This is the reason for 4/5*’s. The menu was good, with a variety of traditional starters, mains, and deserts. The food came out and was full of flavour and extremely tasty. The portions left you feeling full, but not like you’re going to explode. I would recommend visiting The Olive Grove for dinner as the food was of good quality and service was pleasant.

I visited here whilst working nearby, on a Sunday evening, so the restaurant was quiet. That said, the staff were attentive without being overly so. Food was very good indeed - tzatziki and pitta bread to start, kleftiko, followed by baklava - all very tasty....

Having recently come back from a holiday in Rhodes we were a little hesitant about having another Greek meal however the food was fantastic. Lamb kebabs and moussaka were far superior to anything we had in Rhodes. Friendly staff and nice surroundings. Recommended
