Stopped off on our journey back home to Sussex, after a wonderful 5 nights in Wales. What a fabulous little find this place was. All of us had fish n chips with the homemade tartare sauce, and none of us were disappointed. The portions were huge, so huge that we were still full when we got home 4.5 hrs later. Will definitely be returning next year on our next Welsh adventure!

Fabulous beef sirloin Sunday lunch, the beef was a good thick slice which was cooked to perfection and accompanied with a great selection of tasty vegetables. The starters were also delicious and just the right portion size. We were pleased we managed to leave room for the desserts which were homemade and the bread n butter pudding was like my Gran used to make.

The Windmill at Rowton - Shropshire I had need to go on a little trip to Welshpool this past Sunday, and being quite a drive from England over the border into Wales, went with a friend to keep me company 'and fully alert' on what was a six hour round trip. On the way to our destination, we spotted The Windmill at Rowton, the beautifully decorated building catching our eye because it was so colourfully festooned with flowering plants. It looked stunning. We immediately hatched a plan to stop on the way back. We are glad that we did-what a great find. We were not to be disappointed - this is a gem of a place: wonderfully tended, super friendly owners and staff, delicious food and superb gardens and views. We found it to be, quite literally, superb in every way! If you are ever in the area, do be sure to call in because if your experience is as good as ours, you will definitely not be disappointed. To be honest, I have become a tad disillusioned with pubs in my own area of late with so many offering poor service, filthy interiors, indifferent staff members and substandard food, which is why I am raving about this one. Thank you, Peter and Jane, shame you are not closer, for if you were, I could frequent your gem of an establishment more often. So, in a word, Superb - our visit made our trip out on Sunday all the more special, our Sunday lunch, complete with the best sherry trifle that I have tasted in a long while, made by Jane, was a treat of treats.

What a beautiful spot. You can't tell how lovely it is from the outside, but is has a lovely garden with great views. Wow!!! We stubbled across this amazing pub after a day out and what a find!!! The service was impeccable from the moment we stepped through the door. So incredibly friendly and super accommodating perfect for us with a toddler! We ordered roast dinners all round and were so impressed by the quality and standard the perfect roast and although totally stuffed we still shared a home made pud and washed down with a great standard of wines! Already planning our next trip The Windmill is about 40 mins from us but 100% worth the drive for such a fab pub and experience x

Thank you to the staff because we were really well looked after on our recent trip here. We went with our 18-month old son and they had helpfully sorted the high chair and some little cutlery. The staff were friendly to all of us and very sweet with our son. We both had the roast beef which was excellent and they brought a few bits and some gravy for our boy so he shared some of ours, and he had some ice cream when we had dessert and at no charge. It just made us feel really welcome there. The roast beef was excellent and the veg perfectly cooked and tasty. We will definitely return.

As we have been before and had an excellent meal, we thought we would go again. Meal was ok wouldn't say brilliant. As advertise it said lamb and mint sauce which we had to ask for. Pork and apple sauce like before we had to ask for. Don't really cater for children other than the set Sunday roast menu. Not all children eat a roast dinner. So my son got himself upset because of this, every place we eat do cater for a wide range of choice of meals for a child first place not too. The Yorkshire pudding where frozen ones not homemade. The red cabbage that was under the meat we had to ask if it had onions in s my husband has a fodmap diet and can't eat onion the young waitress couldn't answer because the boss that cook it wasnt there today so nobody knew. My husband is also lactose intolerant so we asked for lactose free cream or ice cream but they don't have it according to the waitress that served us. I had a tradional sherry trifle there was no sherry in my trifle, it was more like bananas, cake and carton custard. I did eat it yes. But was left very disappointed. As a chef myself didn't impress me at all. I also thought all eateries had to ask about dietary requirements when showing us to the table. They certainly weren't on the menu or even offered

It was the perfect venue on a damp mizzling day. Choose from a truly tempting menu and then look forward to the professional care of attentive but discreet waitresses. All these ‘ingredients’ were just waiting for the ‘icing on the cake’ which was the impressive food that followed - with our guests starters ranging from Butternut Squash and Garlic Mushrooms to Smoked Salmon & Prawns. Mmm. Succulent Roast Beef and a delicious Bream we’re two of the delights before choosing Rowton Mess and Traditional Sherry Trifle- from a fairly extensive list of delicious delights! We tried to explain that the lady behind the bar had told us to sit there but he just apologised to the other guests and told us to get out! Stopped for Sunday lunch. £18.95 for one slice of fatty beef, 3 hard roast potatoes and some veg was extremely expensive. £12.50 for a kids meal for a 3 year old was extortionate but no other options available. Either price or portion size needs to be reconsidered. We cooked a meal on arrival back home as we left the restaurant still hungry. Children's meals on average are priced at £6-9, the quality and portion size did not reflect the £12.50 price tag. We left wishing we had gone elsewhere. Staff and setting pleasant.

We visited for Mother's Day for Sunday lunch and were very disappointed. It was the worse roast I've ever had: - the gravy was like water - the meat both turkey and pork was tasteless - cauliflower and broccoli cheese just tasted like water -...

Lovely pub, polite and professional service, friendly owner. Sorry but the Sunday lunch wasn’t great. Oven roasted veg was overdone, as was cabbage and red cabbage - to the point that there was little colour to any of it. , Yorkshire pudding ?ready made one...

It is several miles to the Windmill from my home in Shropshire, but every mile is so worthwhile. The atmosphere is very much to our taste, old fashioned comfort with open fires. The food is fabulous. Two of us had the roast beef and two the...

The service was friendly and the food absolutely first-rate. Can recommend the Ploughman’s which is loaded with cheese, really top notch ham, and lovely crusty bread. Would have loved to stay for cake but we were all too full.

we always try to come here when we can get in and don’t fancy cooking one ourselves. the meat selection is always good and very generous, their roast potatoes are the best - lovely and crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. it is a carvery so can help yourself. they unfortunately don’t have any mash but we just add extra roasties! their gravy is lovely and homemade with the meat juices in. the staff are lovely and attentive. our favourite place to go for sunday lunch!

We booked for dinner as we knew the White Lion had reopened for food with a new chef. We were not disappointed the food was delicious, we had the rib eye steak, the sea bass special and the penne vodka. All were beautifully cooked and served. The service was great and the staff were friendly. We will definitely be eating here again.

We are regular visitors to the Red Lion in Myddle. We return every time because the food and service is second to none. We always receive a warm welcome and we know how hard Pete and Jackie and staff work to make sure that their guests are not disappointed. If you fancy a meal out around Shrewsbury (lunch or dinner) then look no further than the Red Lion. You won’t regret it.
