Lovely pub, nice welcoming atmosphere. Great staff. Food was super, reasonably priced. Would definitely go back again!

Food was exceptional, My husband had the steak and ale pie, one of the best he's had. I had the salmon and chedder fish cakes, which were delicious. We then indulged in the sharing desert which was a fab. The staff were really friendly, great atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Returning here after a pleasant group lunch last year, we were saddened not to enjoy the same experience this time. As a group of nine, we ordered a variety of sharing platters and traditional pub lunches. Whilst the pie was a success, the other dishes ranged from mildly disappointing to downright laughable. The burgers appeared to have been left sitting on a hot plate for days, resulting in a dry, dense and unpleasant slab that was near impossible to chew. The sticky sausages were in fact 4 breakfast bangers upright in a cup (no sticky coating or flavouring to speak of). The calamari attracted attention for all the wrong reasons, appearing to be 8 of the the world’s smallest prawns in a crispy batter. At least 2 of them were only batter and the others a ratio of 90/10 brittle batter. The halloumi, which had been excellent before, was now unappetising lumps of cheese covered in sour cream and the sweet potato and avocado smash was staggeringly bland and unseasoned. One bad dish can be an anomaly, but to have so many unsatisfactory plates is inexcusable. In times when money is tight and eating out is an occasion, one hopes that a group meal will be happy experience. Instead, the trip left a bitter taste in our mouths .The offering felt mean and cynical and nobody likes to feel they have been taken advantage of.

Best local pub in Stratford Upon Avon. Enjoyed a nice lunch, drinks and watched the Rugby with friends. Food was excellent however the main positive was the care and attention given to us by the staff headed by Rachael. It was an excellent experience and look forward to our next visit.

We decided on the windmill as our first choices were either closed for refurbishment or full. Well, I'm so glad we couldn't get in our planned venues as the food and service were fantastic. We had the Sunday roast beef, and it was superb. The beef was cooked perfectly, as were the roasts and yorkshire puddings. The staff are also really friendly. Definitely will return when in Stratford.

We are locals and popped in for Sunday lunch with our Goldie. Bar staff were welcoming, although it would be nice if you ask if the dog needs some water. Roast beef was nice with a good selection of vegetables and served quite quickly. Roast Chicken with Stuffing did not come with the Stuffing, and the chicken appeared to be part fried. It's one of the cheaper Sunday roasts in town do I guess this should be taken into consideration. Will give it another try in a few months time to see if it has improved.

A real oldie world is pub. We picked as its dog friendly and weren’t disappointed. Very friendly staff and good value food and drinks with a real buzz.

Just popped in for work lunch ordered hummus with flatbread, can't get that wrong I thought as I have had terrible food there in the past, but how wrong was I. Two items only on the menu they gave me. Red pepper hummus that had no taste whatsoever and some small items of flatbread that was burnt on top and floppy and stale underneath. The rest of the items on the menu were no where to be seen. Onion chutney on top of humus not what they said and white bread which they said was their specification. I pointed out that I might have been allergic to the other 3 items that were 'specified' NOT on the menu but they were not in the least bit bothered. Really bad and that was just hummus!!!

I was at the windmill for the pub quiz on the Monday night. Rachel and Sam behind the bar were great, food was really tasty and served in great time. The quiz was great fun too! A really great place for a night out.

Nice cosey pub… low ceilings and character. Nice menu …however at the point of ordering they had no chicken, no Mac n cheese and no burgers … taken as a sign of heavy footfall rather than inadequate stock control !! Fish & Chips were good… however bread & butter was forgotten …… I assume due to the excitement of the rugby World Cup… Once it arrived … butter was unspreadable. (1st world problems !!!) Cold draft through the door as guests enter and exist …at table 12!! However great evening had !!

Great reasonably priced food. In a historically old building. Ordered an Award winning pie which was amazing and flat ironed steak perfectly cooked. However what sets this Greene King pub apart is the staff. Fantastic customer service from start to finish. Highly recommend.

Excellent food (flat iron steak, halloumi, calamari and hummus), and really friendly staff. Wonderful atmosphere in a building built in 1599 that is the oldest pub in Stratford.

We popped in for lunch, the staff could not have been more helpful and the food was delicious, cooked to perfection. We had the flat iron steak and the halloumi fries alongside squid. Delicious

£12.95 for a Sunday chicken roast in a tourist hot spot is very good value for money. Nice atmosphere, with old wooden beams on the ceiling, quick service, food arrived in 5 minutes and the chicken was pleasantly hot, one of my pet complaints is lukewarm chicken. The table was clean and another was cleaned as soon as the customers left. Toilets were also clean. The only downside, the Yorkshire pudding was a hard crust, hard enough to break teeth and resisted a stainless steel knife.

OUTSTANDING! Great friendly welcome! Seated comfortably straight away. Their Green King IPA was a fabulous pint in great condition. The food came relatively quickly, the Fish Finger sandwich was truly excellent as was the Hunters Chicken sandwich. The lunchtime deal represented great value. Service with a smile. I cannot fault this visit!

We’ve visited the Windmill before whilst staying in Stratford Upon Avon. This is the first time we’ve been back there since the pandemic restrictions have started to be lifted. We had an excellent time. Quite simply, it was one of the best pub experiences we’ve ever had. We booked a table for Bank Holiday Sunday at 5pm. We were seated inside the pub near the bar and fireplace. It was a really warm day, so the fire wasn’t on, thankfully :) Straight away, it was clear to see how hard the staff were working and how well they worked as a team. We overheard them having a quick team chat about how best they felt they contributed in their roles in the pub and immediately saw how enthusiastic they all were. It was refreshing to see. We knew we’d only got the table for 1.5-2 hours and the time went so fast.We were getting ready to leave as our time was almost up, when the Manager kindly came over to us and told us we could move to another table within the pub for a specified period, or he had a table for us outside, which we could have for the rest of the evening. This was a really nice touch and made us feel valued customers. I think we stayed for another 2.5 hours. It was equally as comfortable outside under the parasol. The service remained the same, friendly, polite and fast. There was no need for us to use the app even once! The Toilets were well managed and regularly cleaned and all the Covid rules were followed correctly but without detriment to the service or experience. The staff worked so hard as a team and we had a really good few hours out. If only all pubs could be like this! We look forward to returning when we are next in Stratford. Thank you!

My wife, son and I had and meal here last night. The food was delicious, the pies there are the best you can get from a restaurant, just like the lasagne my wife had. I have seen some bad reviews about this place and I do not see what they mean by 'dirty' 'horrible staff'. The staff were so willing to help and just generally great! What more can I say, I'll keep coming back to the Windmill. And I recommend this viewer of this review does to.

It's been a while since I last visited mainly as a result of Covid restrictions. Very pleased to report it's exactly as I remembered. Excellent service, great wine list and ambient surroundings. Nigel and his team are doing a sterling job. I can't wait to visit again.

Visited this pub every day we were there for drinks but only had one evening meal. Again a Greene King pub and on checking the menu for our meal noticed no mixed grill advertised. I misread the menu and I ordered ham egg and chips under the impression I was ordering gammon egg and chips, and when the mistake was pointed out to me {mainly because they don't do gammon egg and chips either}, I though well that's o.k. I don't mind some "ham on the bone" instead of gammon.The "ham" I got was nothing like what I expected, it looked like that shiny {grey} ham you get pre-packed in supermarkets, it was sliced so thin it only had one side and had absolutely no taste whatsoever. Apart from that the pub, the staff and the drinks were very good and we enjoyed our visits

Stayed in Stratford for 3 nights, came here every day . The atmosphere here is lovely, they make you feel welcome as soon as you enter. Food was delicious, all the staff are very friendly and approachable, Daniel stood out to us and went above and beyond. Would highly recommend coming here. Can get busy so may need to book.

Having spent the day traipsing around the town to be turned away at every door, covid had seen everyone fully booked and in a bad mood. Literally went to 5 or 6 other places to be asked "have you booked?" and then when I replied "No" was given a scowl and treated like something on the bottom of their shoe....NOT at the Windmill though, the team kindly found us some space and provided us with exceptional customer service. A rarity in today's modern world. A big thank you to the gents known only as Jesus and Moses, you really were top draw and a credit to your trade. The pub was cosy, traditional, food reasonably priced and service quick.Well done the Windmill

This is my local. Always had lovely burger fresh homemade until this evening . The burger was now a Pattie and I was so disappointed. The normal burger is one of the best ever . Tonight I ordered burger and was presented with a perfect flat round Pattie no flavour. What happened? I asked a member of staff who assured me same burger. no it’s completely different n clearly not the same . Tasteless and looks like a frozen burger

Omitieron el cerdo desmenuzado de los nachos y lo sacaron por separado, lo cual fue un poco extraño.Sin embargo, el pub en sí es encantador, muy antiguo, y el espacio exterior también era genial.

Encontramos este pub en el camino de regreso de un largo paseo por el río y al pasillo de crofts. Precioso edificio y personal amable. Nos sentamos adentro porque el exterior estaba lleno, un día soleado y una combinación de covid, pero por dentro era encantador. Los bocadillos y la cerveza eran increíbles, aunque no puedo decir que no estuviéramos influenciados por la caminata de 3 millas en el calor del mediodía de 30 grados.

Aparecimos aquí sin reservar una mesa y nos resolvieron amablemente y rápidamente y nos dieron opciones en cuanto a en qué habitación y mesa nos gustaría que nos sentara un hombre encantador que supusimos que era el gerente. Nos consiguió una jarra de agua fría para biberón y también nos ofreció una hermosa área para sentarse en el jardín, ¡que era perfecta!Vimos al dueño corriendo dando cuencos de agua a los perros y, aunque parecía ocupado, fue muy educado y feliz de ver nuevos visitantes.Muchas gracias !

Came to Stratford for a short break. Found this pub by accident when walking around and it was close to the hotel we were stopping in. Just had drinks on Friday. Saturday we booked a table for a meal in the evening. The food was lovely and well presented and the staff were helpful and courteous, nothing was too much trouble. A lovely outdoor area to the rear was a bonus too on friday with the heat we had here. Next time we visit we know where to go.

Came ro this little gem for our first weekend away since lockdown, believe it was their first day open, what a great job the team did, knowledgable,welcoming,friendly and attentive.we visited twice in the same day just for drinks simply because they felt the most comfortable amongst the other establishments in SUA which includes our hotel! You can use the app to order table service or open a tab all so very simple and you still felt like you were in a pub and relaxed (during these strange times) Great job guys and thank you!

Pub tipico, molto carino e grande! Non è il massimo della pulizia a mio parere ma sarà difficile trovare un pub attento da questo punto di vista.Il cibo era buona e l’atmosfera deliziosa, merita una chance!

Called in after a meal nice place brewdog ipa was excellent the food looked very nice wi go for a meal next time in Stratford.

We were a party of 8 - mixed adults and children who enjoyed a very nice meal from the festive fixed menu.The pub was welcoming and well decorated for the season, the staff friendly and accomodating given which was especially appreciated at this busy time of year. The children couldn't go in the main bar area which was fine as we sat in the comfortable restaurant area to the side. The food and drinks were good value.

Friends of mine trying to have lunch today have had to send their food back twice. The response from the assistant manager (Phil) has lacked any real apology. Other people were also complaining about the food and service. Other members of staff tried their best to placate the situation.

An excellent place..lovely staff...great atmosphere. Nothing too much trouble. Despite being a very busy pub...staff had lots of time for customers.

Whenever we visit Stratford-upon-Avon, the Windmill always offers a friendly welcome, great atmosphere, and fantastic selection of food and drinks in a traditional, cosy setting. We have visited a few times since finding this gem and it has become a favourite of ours. The staff are all friendly and welcoming and the service and quality of food is brilliant. We decided to reserve a table for a pre-Christmas family lunch from the festive menu, all opting for traditional turkey dinners, with various starters and desserts (prawn cocktail/ chicken liver pate/ christmas pudding/ chocolate fudge pudding). Service was great, food was hot and served perfectly and all tasted amazing. A great tome was had by all. We would highly recommend the Windmill.We thank you and the staff for making our visits lovely and look forward to returning soon. We wish you a happy Christmas and fantastic 2020.

Another brilliant visit to The Windmill. This time we were here with friends and our grandaughter for the weekend and we had pre-ordered from the festive menu because we wanted to make sure of getting in and we are glad we did because it was fully booked by the time of our visit. The atmosphere and welcome from the staff was as lovely as ever and the food was excellent. Everyone enjoyed it immensely.

Cerveza bien cuidada. Mucho espacio. Fuego de leña. Buen menú pero no lo probé. No se ofrece vino caliente (se habían agotado), el motivo inicial de la visita. No se admiten perros

Siempre comemos aquí cada vez que visitamos Stratford. El pub está situado a pocos pasos de la principal zona comercial y pertenece a la cadena Greene King. Tiene un estacionamiento muy pequeño en la parte trasera, pero justo al lado hay un amplio estacionamiento de pago y exhibición, por lo que no hay problema sobre dónde dejar el automóvil.El edificio en sí es muy antiguo y atmosférico y es un lugar cálido y acogedor para comer, beber y reunirse con amigos. La comida es muy buena ya un precio razonable, con opciones vegetarianas disponibles.Afuera hay un pequeño jardín de cerveza y en verano es encantador sentarse bajo las sombrillas. Lamentablemente, esta área también es utilizada por los fumadores, así que si no participan, ¡tengan cuidado!

The old whippet (mother in law) and my wife's auntie came with us to have Sunday dinner at the mill after a stroll around Stratford. I have been here before with my wife and whippet some time ago and decided to give it another go. I have to say the food was still to the same high standard as before. We all had Sunday lunches with me having the large one which is chicken and beef together and it was more than enough. I just about managed to squeeze a desert in at the end which was also lovely. The pub is over 350 years old (not quite as old as the whippet) and is full of charm, but if you're tall watch your head. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the drinks are excellent. I did try to phone a few times without much look at first so keep trying and someone will get to you.

Why are you on business in Stratford upon Avon and I thought I would go for something to eat so I took myself along with a few colleagues to the Windmill in to eat lunch the food was nice but they did mess up with a vegetarian option and was offered chicken no I am a vegetarian I don’t eat meat my colleague told her never mind but when it was sorted the food was good.

El personal era encantador y muy servicial, haciendo todo lo posible por servirnos. La comida era excelente ya un precio razonable. Los cócteles eran dos por uno (siempre que fueran lo mismo). En general, nuestra experiencia fue muy positiva y definitivamente regresaré en mi próxima visita a Stratford.

Reservamos para esta noche una comida previa al teatro, muy decepcionado, comida de mala calidad, una masa espesa horrible en nuestro pescado que obviamente no era comida fresca sino ping. ¡Pudimos ver lo ocupado que estabas pero no es excusa para servir comida basura que también estamos experimentando tambaleantes ahora! El camarero era un muchacho muy agradable.

I called in for a pre dinner drink. The whole place ouses charm, and with lovely friendly staff, well it made the visit even more worthwhile. The drinks are also reasonably priced. It is slightly off the town centre, but is definitely worth a visit.

My wife and I had dinner here in September. We had had a meal here a year or so ago and it was OK. This time we decided to have a Sunday roast wish we hadn't. When the meals arrived it looked terrible. The Yorkshire puddings were like stones and the chicken was dry the same as the potatoes were very dry. When we told the bar man Philip about the Yorkshire puds he brought out a tray of them of which all looked as hard and flat as what was served to us. If you have a chef why would you serve such rubbish. Will never return or recommend

We love coming here for drinks with our regular friends. This time we bought our family. Wasn’t sure if it would be any good for our 2 yr old granddaughter. It was fine. She was relaxed well behaved. And the restaurant was accommodating. She had a lovely high chair to sit on.

Enjoyed our open sandwiches (a Philly steak and a BBQ Chicken one) whilst sat out in their courtyard on a lovely day. Service was ok and beers were exactly as we wanted!

My favorite part of having drinks at the Windmill was its outside deck and it was a nice day! The barmen were slow to notice our presence, but Philip poured a nice drink though rather expensive. To have a drink in a place that is 600 years old was cool. I would try a different place next time.

We visited here for the first time whilst on a family weekend trip to Stratford. We pre booked a table which in hindsight was a good move as the restaurant was very busy.

This beautiful and oldworldly pub, is the perfect place to eat before going to the theatre in Stratford upon Avon. We have been there on several occasions, and every time we have had an excellent time there. The food is good and the drinks reasonable. Recommended.

Despite standing at the bar for ages I was ignored when one of the ancient regulars demanded service. Asking for a latte was fruitless too as the little lad behind the bar couldn't operate the coffee machine so I had the worst filter coffee ever. Give it a miss.

WE have loved this place in the past and it has always featured on our visits to Stratford for both food and drink. It is a lovely place and the staff are always polite and attentive. The manageress has a passion about the place and leads by example (rare in this age). However the last time and tonight the quality and presentation of the food has been lacking. Twice ordered food without cheese topping and twice it has been delivered with cheese topping. Staff have taken it back to rectify it, but this is not great as one has a meal in front of them and either eats it separately or lets it get cold while waiting for the revised meal to arrive.I also had prepaid Greene King vouchers to use for the meals but the till would not accept the codes so rather than cause further delay to other customers around me I paid the bill and will take up the pre paid voucher issue with Greene King directly. I`m sure we will visit this pub most times we go to Stratford again as the pub is lovely the staff are great and the management passionate, however I doubt we will dine there again as the standard of the food has dropped significantly over the last 2 years. I believe it due to the ownership of Greene King rather than the management. It seems to be being driven down to profit like a Wetherspoons which is a shame as it was far better than that.

My family and I went to Stratford upon Avon yesterday and were looking for somewhere to eat. We were directed here by a local and what a great place it is. I had the scampi, my wife had the ham, egg and chips, and one of my daughters had the halloumi. These were all very tasty but the highlight had to be what my other daughter had, the sweet potato and red pepper open sandwich on sourdough. What an amazing dish.

Food was nice and staff were friendly , however due to there local drunk in the pub , the whole experience and the meal was wasted , leaning over our young 7 month old granddaughter this person thought it was ok ,breathing his stale breath all over her , and to top it of continued to talk utter crap to us whilst we ate , visited this place 3 times and sadly to say probably the last . If it had been in our local , or even to do this to someone not so polite and forgiving , this chap would of probably needed an ambulance, shame .

Visited here as it was perfectly positioned while doing a tour of all of shakespeare's houses. at first we were incredibly impressed at the traditional facade and old interiors. thats where our good experience ended to be honest. we ordered 2 adult meals at the bar, 2 kids meals and 4 drinks. the ordering process was fine and we got our drinks and sat down waiting for our food. it was a blisteringly hot day so we were looking forward to an ice cold coke. the drink was cold but we couldn't taste the coke. all we can say is it looked the right colour. then the adult meals arrived and we waited ... and waited .. and watched another table get served... and waited... then finally around 10-15 minutes later our children's food arrived. by which point my food was cold. everything wasn't as we were expecting from such a large chain of pubs and in such a prominent location. We ended up leaving most of the meal and eating at the cafe at anne hathaways cottage. disappointing.

Fantastic traditional pub with great tasting food and a great choice of drinks. The colleagues are all really pleasant and the manager Caroline is a lovely lady who always looks after her customers. Really lovely little pub, well worth a visit!

Great pub in a great location. Friendly professional young staff all smiling giving off great ambiance. Cuisine faultless much better than some, so called, quality restaurant's at half the price. Simply put a gem.

I decided to go to the windmill for a drink. What a welcoming pub Caroline and Ashley were soo welcoming, this makes me want to go back more and make this pub my local from now on. I would like to rate this pub 5*.

This is a proper pub, good choice of beers and prompt service. The food represents good value for money, three of us had sirloin steaks, not top quality but at £12.99, we were more than satisfied.

Traditional pub with a good range of beers and food including some vegetarian and vegan options. Friendly staff and nice beer. Good value too, I had vegan burger and fries with a pint of real ale for less than a tenner.

The chicken was off they changed it but it wasn't much better we are now beginning to wonder about Greene king they have changed menus but not for the better won't be going to any of them again this is three bad meals now in different places

I visited the pub in church street staff was amazing. I was served by Jordan he was a great ambassador of a Greene King pub, very attentive and informative made the visit special if every Greene King had an employee like Jordan it would make the experience amazing. A staff memeber like this would make me visit again.

Friendly pleasant surroundings, delicious food served by efficient helpful staff. I would recommend a visit
