From the delightful variety of dishes—sirloin, beef, roast lamb, and turkey—to the excellent service and warm chat with the owner, it seems like a perfect outing with family and friends. A family-run business with a personal touch truly makes for a memorable experience. Your glowing recommendation is sure to encourage others to visit!

I visited The Windmill with my Grandchildren for Sunday Lunch. A great selection of Ales from stouts to IPA’s and friendly service at the bar. I personally had the special Roast Turkey which was especially good, full of flavour and not one bit dry. We finished our meal with a selection of homemade desserts, which were proper pub classics, with a brownie and crumble. 10/10 would visit again.

Great location, within walking distance. The staff are all very welcoming and attentive. The beer is also very good. But, the food is not good. I had the Sunday roast, the parsnip and carrot were nice enough, however the sirloin beef was not edible nor were the roast potatoes, both seemed to be overcooked, possibly reheated. This is the third time we have eaten here and I thought we were just unlucky previously. Not the case. £21 for a Sunday roast is a lot to pay, we came home and ate a full meal! We were a party of six, the others thought their meals were adequate.

We went for dinner with 2 other couples on 8 November. The only meal I could eat was Fish and Chips as the veggie option did not state the ingredients. The fish arrived on a plate of chips which kept falling on to the table as the plate was loaded with chips. The fish was in a very greasy batter which was not edible. My partner ordered a fillet steak which amazingly was exactly the same round and size of the other 2 fillets which had been ordered. The total bill was £81.00 for a fillet at £35.00 and fish which was £17.00 plus a glass of cider. So the cider was £ 29.00 per glass!

My wife ordered the Chicken, I ordered the Lamb, oh with a side of Cauliflower Cheese... it was exceptional. Proper rich homemade gravy, crunchiest roast potatoes, soft and fluffy inside. Roast veg, including roast beetroot too. Then the chicken and lamb, superb quality from a local butcher, the plate was crowned by a stunning homemade Yorkshire pudding. My partner and K went last night for dinner. We arrived and sat in the garden area. I headed inside to order some drinks and ask for the food menus. I was given a garden menu and a burger night special menu. The garden menu contained about 5 items, of which 2 were also burgers. I was told I needed to book a time slot to order my food. Quite unused and the first time I have ever been given a window to order my food. I ordered 2 burgers and as I was about to pay I told there was a 10% service charge. Which is fine, but in the next breath I was told that I needed to collect my own knives and forks and condiments. I joked about the services charge I had paid 10 seconds earlier and was told “we do bring the food to you”. At which point I felt like saying give me a shout when it’s ready and I’ll come and collect it from the kitchen! The food arrived and the chicken burger was bland with a bit of tomato sauce on top. The beef burger also wasn’t the best. £70 for 2 burger, 2 pints and 2 medium wines. Overall a poor experience of service, food quality and menu options. I won’t rush back.

They also have a variety of events on each month that entice you to visit. The cask ales are great, really well kept and constantly changing. Booked a table over the telephone for a 50th Birthday get together so we could have a catch up and good conversation over dinner, however when we arrived there was a live act on, which I was not informed about when placing the booking. On advising the staff that I felt I should have been informed of this when making the booking, I was told that it was ‘well advertised’. An apology was made and when requested during the bands break if they could turn it down a notch (you seriously couldn’t hear yourself think, let alone what anyone was saying) they obliged and did do just that. The evening was somewhat tainted as we were not able to have the conversation that we wished to over dinner without shouting at one another, which proved very difficult for my 89 year old father who is very hard of hearing. He had to remove his hearing aids for fear of rupturing an eardrum with the amplification of sound he must have been hearing. I’d strongly advise to inform guests of live acts on making the booking, even if it has been advertised. If I’d have known I would have booked elsewhere. On that note, the food was great although would have been enjoyed more if we were in a more relaxing atmosphere with music in the background 😋

The meals aren't cheap but the quality was pretty good so no complaints there. However, they take the micky with the price of drinks. £12.50 for a large glass of house wine ! But that does include the 10% service charge they put on everything. They even added 10% to the drinks we ordered and collected at the bar ! Oh, yes, and it's £1 for a dash of lime in a half of lager. I really dislike this automatic service charge. The staff must be making a fortune as there were very few on duty the night we were there. We spent £200 (4 of us) so a £20 tip just from us. We'll not go again.

After hearing good things about the windmill I decided to finally give it a try for Sunday lunch. I can not say I was impressed, the pork I had was two slices of mainly inedible gelatinous fat, the whole meal consisted of 90% over salted vegetables. That's the truth of it and I wasn't alone as the table next to me, when asked by the polite waitress how their meal was, vowed never to return for the same reason. The point was raised with the staff, nothing, the point was then raised with the manager who basically blamed my palette and refused to accept any responsibility. I see from the windmills responses to negative critique here that the bury your head in the sand mentality is in full swing so I expect backlash dear reader (obviously as a paying customer, its my fault, as is anyone else that complains!) Heres a novel idea, listen and learn from criticism! Just because you have a dining room full of people doesn't mean they all like it because they don't leave a review, and its a very British thing to say everything's good when asked, even when its not.

Really, really disappointed with both the food and the response to us not being happy with what we were served. We had heard great comments about the Sunday lunches here so gave it a go. Lovely pub, spacious and clean. Ordered our food which was with us within minutes. I ordered beef sirloin (£20) and my partner had Roast pork (£17). My beef was well cooked and tender. However, the vegetables were the main meal quantity wise and so heavily salted as to be like drinking sea water. I left most of the food. The pork, again was tasty, but such tiny, fatty slices x 2 that the main meal was vegetables. We did give feedback at the table that we weren't happy with the meal to be told: The potatoes and yorkshires are batch cooked (obviously🙄) and noone had complained today and maybe it was a problem with my palate! Even though I had heard people at the next table say that they didn't enjoy their food, and would not be returning. As regards the pork: apparently we should know that small joints result in small slices and two slices is standard 🙄 Then small joints and small slices should imply small prices? The bill of £37 despite our quiet complaint was not reduced, there was no apology, and a service charge was added too. After discussion the service charge was deducted. We will not be back.

I have been visiting this place for 14 years and really is the BEST plave for top quality beer, food and great staff. If I ever get visitors staying, especially overseas, we take them to the Windmill as the exemplar of the Great British Pub!

Enjoyed our first visit with friends who go frequently. Very popular despite being in middle of nowhere. Good atmosphere. Food was excellent although I thought the roast potatoes where over cooked (rock hard). Recommended.

After the reviews, what a disappointment. Service was ok, food was dreadful, left most of it. We made our feelings know but had no response. Paid the bill won’t ever go back again. Probably ok for a pint outside.

Great place, great food and service. One star knocked off for the lady shaking a charity bucket in my face half way through the meal. There is a time and a place for charitable causes, being harassed during a meal out with your family is not one them. Please consider your customer experience and reason for visiting with more detail.

We enjoyed an excellent meal here. The pub is cosy and very welcoming. Staff were very pleasant and friendly. Two of us had pie and chips and one had macaroni cheese. All of the meals were absolutely delicious and the portions are big. I would definitely recommend.

A group of 23 of us booked for the Christmas 3 course meal. The booking was for 7pm and it took the staff until after 8 pm to start bringing the Starters to us in dribs and Drabs. We were advised the Vegetable soup was not available and we're offered 3 alternatives. One of which turned out to be not available. 1 person did not like the alternatives to the soup but was not offered anything else or her money back for this. The main courses arrived again after the staff not clearing the tables and again in dribs and drabs. The cranberry sauce arrived after most people had finished there meals. The Turkey was beautifully cooked but the Salmon was overcooked, Some of the vegetables were more than slightly Al dente and some cold. Again the tables were not cleared properly and the sweets arrived again in dribs and drabs. We were not offered the option of brandy sauce for the Christmas puddings and the pitiful amount of Custard that was to shared between everyone was very disappointing. The overall experience ended around 10.30 meaning it had taken 3 and a half hours to serve 3 courses if food. There were only 3 staff we could see in the premises and they seemed to be trying to cook and serve at the same time. They appear to be prioritising walk in customers and blamed this partially on the poor service and lack of staff allowed to work by the management. Finally the Cheese and biscuits ordered specially for two people and confirmed the day before were not brought out and we were told that was only available on Christmas day. We shall not be booking this again! Please think carefully before booking a large party for a meal.

Order through deliveroo the quality is fantastic and the portion sizes are good, especially like the homemade tartare sauce and desserts and the haddock deserves a mention
