The Windmill in Huntingdonshire

The waitresses of this restaurant were excellent it is a shame the chefs let this restaurant down. I had the fillet steak at £32.00 which from my point of view is a special treat as I would definitely think twice about paying this much. I asked for my steak to be medium to rare. It came well done so I sent it back and it came back a second time overdone. You would think when a restaurant is charging this much they would know how to cook a steak!!! To be fair the others of my family did have nice food and were not disappointed even someone else having steak and their order was near on perfect. I did not make a fuss or a scene just quietly told them. Needless I did not pay for the meal.

Our family had an excellent Sunday lunch. Good portions and well cooked. Some of our party opted for lamb or beef which they enjoyed but I had wanted the chicken which unfortunately wasn't available that day, so opted for the nut roast instead which was very good. Good Yorkshire pudding was well cooked and nice to see the sage and onion stuffing ball was actually sage and onion, without minced pork being added, which a lot of other restaurants do, and I personally dislike. I wish those that do add it would state so on the menu without customers having to check.

Today we celebrated my daughters christening and mine and my husbands vow renewal. The service from the windmill has been outstanding. They have accommodated us with every request. The manager stayed open late last night so we could decorate ready for the day, they have dealt with changes of guest, menu choices, every query we have had has been answered quickly. The food was excellent and I am always blown away with the incredibly reasonable cost of the set menu. I could not have asked for better service. The staff are fantastic and Ella the manager is a pleasure, keeping things running smoothly in such a wonderful environment. Thank you for giving us such a special afternoon. I could not recommend the Windmill more! X

Wonderful food, friendly service, lovely warm atmosphere. Can definitely recommend. We ate off the a la carte menu (starters and mains) and every dish was beautifully presented and very tasty.

Booked for a family birthday lunch at 1.15 The person who actually made the booking was told that we needed to order quickly as they closed at 3.00. I think that an hour and three quarters is not a time to be rushed. I ordered a starter of chicken pate, which when it turned up, I was unsure quite what it was. It was served with some ciabatta bread and an onion chutney.....and no butter. I followed with a chicken and bacon Caesar Salad. Okay, pretty hard to mess up, but it was nothing to dance about. The cheesecake that followed was probably the best part of the meal. That was not saying too much. The pub has many signs outside that advertise it as part of the Greene King chain. My AA app gives a 15% discount at Greene King. When I asked about it, I was told that they don't give discounts. I felt like I was being looked down upon. When I said all Greene King pubs honour the discount, I was told that they were no longer a Greene King house. Well take the signs down then! They miss-lead people! I look for Greene King houses and it is part of why I stay with the AA. All in all, not impressed. I would not visit again, and I feel that they would not want my kind of riff-raff!

Came for Christmas meal. My first course was fine. Pate you cannot spoil pate. There was a nice amount with crusty bread and it was tasty. My friend had soup and said it was lovely. The mains arrived and I was disappointed. I had chosen the beef but it was a bad choice the meat was fatty, difficult to cut and to eat. I counted 4 small circular pieces of carrot and 3, I do not jest brussel sprouts. Added to this was a yorkshire pud and a small floret of broccoli. However it was the potatoes that were absolutely awful. I thought I had broken my tooth when trying to eat them. There were 3 potatoes. That must have been cooking for days as the outside wasnt crispy it was like steel. I ended up ha i g to open them with difficulty and scoop out the potato trapped in side. My friends potatoes were the same. Gravy well so little of it that I thought sure a gray bowl would be passed round, alas no. I have to say I make a better roast dinner than that one and my potatoes are light and crispy on the outside not hard as nails and uneatable. We turn to the dessert. It looked lovely. However some bright spark had decided to cover the biscuit base with a solid layer of chocolate which took a pitch fork to break through and not good for my teeth. Had broken a tooth back in the summer because someone had put frozen chocolate drops in my ice cream. It was a very expensive mistake. To eat the cheesecake I had to remove offending chocolate and try to break it up. As you can tell this meal was not enjoyable and definitely not value for money.

Lovely place, bigger than expected, but the service was good & food even better. I would go back, but would ask for a table in the main rooms rather than the conservatory as it was very noisy with large tables of people.

Family roast food was average potatoes were hard not crispy food wasn’t hot flat Yorkshire pud welcome wasn’t great if your busy you should still have time and to check food was ok nothing but disappointing

Tried to book for a Wednesday lunch time but no one would answer. We turned up anyway as we were passing just in case and half expecting that as a popular pub it might be full. As we approached the bar there was an empty table nearby which would have sat us comfortably. However when we asked if there were any tables free we were laughed at and told no they were fully booked. Explaining that we had rung to book but no answer we were laughed at again and told that they didn’t bother to answer the phone when fully booked. Embarrassed at being laughed and pretty put off by the arrogance of the success they clearly take for granted we left. Somewhat ironically they still have a sign up outside the pub ‘Eat Locally - We Need You!’ - they clearly don’t and they don’t mind letting you know it.

Omg fabulous Sunday lunch today service was fabulous as per usual great team on today nothing too much trouble.. big shout out to the chef Yorkshire puddings where amazing along with the rest of the food we shall be returning x keep up the good work 🥰

Our table was booked for a birthday celebration, four couples, and we were seated at one of the large impressive tables in the restaurant. The atmosphere was fab, and the staff were charming. Food arrived and was delish. Our group thoroughly enjoyed the evening, and I would certainly book to return again. Thank you for your excellent hospitality.

Went to the windmill with my family for my birthday. Didn't know my son was visiting from Vancouver and the staff helped my daughter and hubby keep it a suprise.
