I have been informed they deliberately shut on the day of a gipsy funeral. Discrimination in its finest. I can prove this as fact . I have messages from the land lady to prove this

Update October 2024 : The pub now has a new Landlady, one Sue Adams. The late opening hours have reduced a bit, more inline with other pubs but otherwise all fine so far and we now have attractive barmaids at busy times 😊 Food provision is not up and running yet but is imminent says Sue. Update August 2024 : Sadly, the landlord David Clark is retiring at the end of September 2024. Will whoever takes it over still open as late as he does, creating that nish drinking opportunity. Update April 2022 : The pub is basically back to normal as a proper pub, with no social distancing restrictions etc. Food is no longer served in the evenings, just lunchtime. The pub cat Windy has sadly since died. Currently, I am trying to persuade Landlord Dave to stock some decent low alcohol bottled bitters e.g. Old Specked Hen 0.5%, which knocks spots off the Heineken lager versions. Last orders are now more strictly enforced at 11.30pm most days. Original review during lockdown : I only came by to photograph the post box for Google Maps and found the pub outside all stripped back to the bare cement colour, so an opertunity for a new suite of pub outside photos for Maps. A new fenced-in outside tables layout has appeared to encourage social distancing during the post COVID-19 virus lockdown, ready for the predicted 4th July 2020 reopening. The outside smokers area with heater and awning is being moved from front roadside to the rear. The landlord Dave said the internal woodwork was in the process of being rubbed down, but I wasn't going in there during lockdown, so we will have to wait with curiosity on the pub's final new look. Please LIKE with a 👍 if you have found this review helpful thank you

The Windmill (Windies) has changed hands, so I thought I would take my dog (an expert on real pubs), to see how things are. Dave (the Landlord for 50 years) is obviously missed but new Licensee Sue, appears to be a Lady with safe hands and social skills. The pub is friendly and a boon to the local area, as we have lost so many decent public houses over the years. Sue generously allowed my dog in and even gave biscuits to her. I wish her and her staff exceedingly good business, and will support them, and look forward to the restaurant opening. Support Your Local!!!

Went here following a recommendation & it didn’t disappoint, traditional country pub with amazing homemade food at incredibly affordable prices.. Easter Sunday & a roast dinner choice of either large or small plate was less than £13 per person (smaller plates were cheaper too)… Great atmosphere, not rushed, booking is recommended for either large or small parties.. Will definitely be going again soon..

Positive: Nice pub, nice location, friendly staff and locals with a nice selection of beers. Negative: Food was poor, we had a burger, came plain with no salad onions or anything and it was very very dry, also had selected sausages in large Yorkshire pudding: This was in fact catering sausages tinned veg with a bit of Bisto gravy. If I was to ever to return it would not be for food.

Spur of the moment visit for lunch with my mum. Very friendly service. Great menu with traditional classics that sadly seem missing in a lot of today's modern pubs. Difficult to choose what to have. It was a chilly day so I opted for the steak and kidney pudding with new pots and fresh veg. It was delicious but couldn't quite manage the large portion. Mum had gammon egg and chips which was also thoroughly enjoyed. All waiter service, no need to get up and down to the bar. Thoroughly recommend. We will be back soon.

Nice quaint pub, away from the traffic of the common down the road. Service was really lovely and friendly - the man behind the bar was an absolute delight! Good prices - around £9 for a pint of Thatchers and a pint of Strongbow. Lovely beer garden area to enjoy the drinks in, as well as a gorgeous building to snoop around. Sadly, food seemed limited to certain time frames which meant we couldn't eat when we visited, which was a shame as would love to have tried their meals. Maybe next time!

The food and service was terrible. We waited 45 minutes for our food which was a selection of deep fried rubbish. Everything looked the same colour. I ordered a burger and chips. I got a burger that was tiny and tasteless in a bun that double as big. The bun was as terrible as everything else and there was nothing else in the burger. Completely dry. I don’t see how anyone would ever go back. The whole place seemed tired and run down.

If you want a normal pub that does normal food, attentive service at a very normal price then this is the place for you. How all pubs used to be before people's expectations were to high. If you do want somewhere more refined I'd concider somewhere else to save disappointment.

A rather quaint olde worlde or old fashioned pub for locals and walkers. All the locals were male on our visit, and there was plenty of loud and friendly banter going round. The locals are very approachable and friendly; but the smokers by the door, the loud male camaraderie, the sport on the TV, and the cluttered state of the place is not for everyone. I expect the atmosphere could be different on a different visit, and in many ways I preferred this pub to the Two Brewers. If I was walking in the woods by myself or with male friends, I would 100% come here rather than the Brewers (better beer choice, and a feeling of authenticity), but if I was with my family or a female companion, I would use the Brewers (more sedate and relaxed atmosphere).

Well… if you are hungry, may I suggest you place the order 4 years and 3 months before you need to eat.. if you’re really lucky, you may well have timed it just right, however, if you’re unfortunate like me and wanted food in less than an hour and still warm then please order else where…. delivery driver that’s says.. if you don’t like it then complain.. so here I am complaining.. if was to rate the cold food.. then it’s average at best (I’m being generous as well)

I made a mistake with delivery time and restaurant corrected time with me. Food came and all dishes were tasty. Only issue was with the rotis, which had become cold and dry but everything else - including portions were good.
