Good fish and chip shop with varied menu and friendly staff

I was incredibly impressed by my experience at Ocean’s this evening, which has made me write this review, from the attentive staff to the speed of the order coming out. I had the regular fish & chips with a curry sauce, the fish was a perfect size for the amount of chips you get, the fish was not greasy at all, and flaked perfectly in the mouth, the batter was light and exquisite, the chips had good flavour and were complimented well with the salt & Vinegar, the amount of curry sauce you get is good enough for either dipping or pouring all over!! In my own opinion I would say the meal was probably as good as what you get when you go to the seaside, thanks guys keep doing what you’re doing!!!

Amazing Fish and chips. Also great service, they accidentally left a piece of fish out of my collection. I let them know and within 5 minutes they delivered it with extra chips to our door. This doesn't happen these days. Top service, much appreciated.

I think Oceans has gone downhill compared to how it used to be. The fish is chewy & the batter soggy not crispy like it used to be. Even the chips aren't great any more.

Proper fish and chips every time. We always have delivery as we are just outside Tring but it’s pretty much bang on time and always hot and fresh. Please note we order on a Tuesday so probably not as busy as it could be on a Friday/weekend.

Service and atmosphere doesn’t matter as it’s just a shop front service was very fast which is always worrying because it’s just been sat there. Fish was okay. Batter was very light in colour and not a great deal crispy but was okay. Chips were luke warm at best and no I don’t have a long journey anywhere, they were soft and soggy not very nice at all As for the battered sausage my god the worst. Soggy, warm just sat in the window. Is it actually hard to cook to order? Won’t be returning not sorry.

Always enjoy their cod and chips. Fish always fresh with light tasty batter. Chips good with crispy outside, creamy inside and lots of little crunchy bits. Looking forward to next time!

Great fish and chips. Batter was light and crispy chips were cooked to perfection. Server was a bit grumpy and owner never smiled or welcomed anyone but the food speaks volumes. Would not hesitate to come back

I have been coming to.this chippy for years as it is the best in a wide area. I travel from either Watford or Aylesbury it is that good. However on Saturday 29/10/22 I was horrified with my supper. The chips were just as good as always but the fish was inedible. It tasted of very old nasty grease.. truly awful. I don't know if they forgot to change it, a different supplier or heaven forbid the cost of oil is so high just thought they would try and squeeze another day out of the life of it. Please go back to whatever you have always done guys even if it means increasing the prices

Ordered food told would be about an hour no probs with that phoned an hour and 15mins later to be told the foods ready but the delivery driver’s not back yet be another 15mins or so before he is! So (a) how long has the food been sitting on the side getting cold and (b) how much longer do we have to wait?! Why not be honest from the start and tell us they only have one delivery driver on a Friday night!

Over 2 hours for a delivery - really bad service

Food is good but pricing is getting greedy Cheesy chips was £3.50 a month later they have gone up to £4.50 One potato wouldn’t even cost 10p It’s a shame I won’t b using again

Had delivered to my home. Ordered fish and chips x 2. Friendly staff when you phone to place the order. Order arrived when they said but we found that it was quite greasy. Chips were great. Ive always had fish and chips from Oceans. Before Covid, i couldnt fault them, but i have found that on my orders that the fish doesnt gey enough time from the fryer to the bag. Real shame as i miss how it used to be.

Really good food and service, gets extremely busy in peak times better to call and collect. In my opinion.

Twice we have ordered fish and chips for delivery with cash on delivery and both times the price quoted over the phone was different to the price we had to pay when delivered. Price always went up. After the first time we gave them the benefit of the drought but then the same rip-off happened on the second delivery. We have used Oceans for nearly ten years now but after being conned on the last two delivery prices we will never use them again. Oceans are best avoided.

today, i went to this fish and chip shop. it was HORRENDOUS. the chips were so plain and dry and the chicken nuggets weren’t even better. which i also paid for 6 nuggets but only got given 4. the worker dose t care about your needs at-all and will twist ur words. i ordered a burger with BURGER SAUCE and i received a burger with garlic sauce. the burger even had no cheese or lettuce in it like how it was displayed. i complained that i got garlic sauce but the worker didn’t care and said that i asked for garlic cause when i had never. never going back again. disgusting.

This is my favourite fish and chip shop! Much prefer this to Berkhamsted fish bar which people rave about. It's worth the extra drive for me. The portion size is just right and the chips are cooked perfectly the way I like them. Fish takes very fresh. Honestly this is one of the best fish and chip shops I've been to. This is one of the best chip shop iv been to in a long time, large fish & chips with mushy peas , if you had to cache the fish yourself it would take you an hour , genius portions and this is a understment. Proper chips to , this chip shop work hard to provide the finish product.

This is among the best fish and chip shops I know. It is run by a Turkish family and the give you a huge portion for your money. They have all the traditional items you would expect in a great chippy. They also include a salad with each item which sounds strange but is actually really nice and refreshing. The shop gets extremely busy so expect a reasonable wait. Some items such as scampi need to be cooked fresh so allow extra for this. Some of the staff do not have good English and are hard to understand. Next to a large car park with 1 hour free parking so very convenient.

Food is good but don't go at busy times or you'll be waiting ages outside and in the pouring rain. They need to sort this out!!!

Just about good. It's a decent chip shop. Service ok but gets very busy on Fridays and can be chaotic. Food is pleasant enough and a wide range besides the fish. Hard to get excited about it, but worth a visit if you're looking for fish and chips in Tring.

Generous portions & lovely cod!

oceans used to be great with old owner always checking food before it went out but now the new owner doesnt give a toss. food has gone down hill aswell as customer service. for example the kebabs used to be one of the best around the area and full of flavour but now it doesnt even taste like kebab and is drenched in grease. any one who genuinley likes and enjoys the food other then the basic burgers then they clearly dont know good food!

Ordered for home delivery but they could not find us as we are just outside the village. When I rang to enquire about the delivery. They apologised as they did not have my mobile number and had to return to base. This time I gave them my mobile they cooked fresh food straight away and came out within 20 mins. In the end the food was really tasty and well worth the wait. Great Customer service. Well done Oceans.

Flavourless lamb donner. Was hoping the chicken kebab would ne better...Worst chicken Kebab i have ever had absolutely flavourless. Seasoned with cooking oil and garlicless garlec mayo, roughly shoved into a saturated pitta. They couldnt even get the salad correct

Disgusting behaviour from the staff, we phoned and made order.. Told to come in half hr which we did.. My daughter has breathing issues so has an exempt card, she walked in at the time she was told to come and collect the order to be faced with a customer shouting at her as she never had her mask on but badge on show, then the staff told her to leave the shop and wait out side, she said she wasn't there to order but to pick up and again was told to get out of the shop and wait outside he would call her in when he was ready.. I will never go to this shop again because of there stinking attitude towards people that have disabilities

The fish was perfectly cooked and succulent. A bit pricey but worth every penny. Definitely a recommendation..

Haddock and Cod were fresh tasting and perfectly cooked. Curry sauce was proper chip shop sauce not the Chinese style that some places do.

My partner and I are on a little getaway near Tring and decided to try this fish and chip shop. We ordered and were told it would take 45-60 minutes. Which was fair enough as it was 6:30pm so prime dinner time. After 70 minutes we had not received our order so called them to enquire. Apparently the driver had been trying to find us for 20 minutes, but we had not received any calls even after giving them our phone number. After walking around and finding the driver, my partner was then shouted at as if it were our fault. Our order was then wrong. I called the shop and was told it would be another 40-60 minutes until the correct order arrived. I told them it wasn't worth it. I then got shouted at, as it was my fault the driver could not find us in the first place. After replying that it was not my fault as they had my number and I was sitting on my phone waiting for the call, the employee decided to hand me over to the manager. I was finally apologised to and offered money off on our next visit but we will not be visiting again so I turned that down. They finally said they could deliver our order again in 15 minutes so I ensured I was outside waiting for them to make it easy to find us. This order then took 30 minutes to get to us. By this point, my partners meal was only warm because we had put it in the oven after it being cold when we received it. I would not recommend this takeaway as I do not tolerate being shouted at by grown men over the phone over something that could have been easily solved without playing the blame game. Additionally, after waiting 70 minutes for food, the order should not be wrong. Play it safe and order elsewhere.

Best chips and burger in the area...

Tasty food and good prices however we ordered to a campsite and once it arrived they didn't even attempt to call us, we were waiting for almost 2 hours until we decided to hunt round for our food. We found it dropped off at reception and it had been sitting there getting cold for half an hour. Once we eventually started eating our food we realised they messed up our order and missed off 2 portions of chips.

Had nothing bad to say about oceans till tonight . Apparently standing at the counter waiting to order means your invisible because they take orders from people who just walked through the door. Could understand if it was busy but there was me ,someone sat down and the bloke who just walked in not impressed.

They managed to mess the order up yet again even after reading it back to us. The last two orders have also been wrong! The only thing they seem to get right is taking your cash! Very disappointed!

They know how to run a business

being a Lancashire lad from Leigh Chips and Fish (always that way round !) are an essential part of life. Oceans Fish and Chips has consistently excelled itself whenever I have them. Ultra fresh fish light crispy batter and moorish chips. My only complaint is when I ask for a small portion of chips they give me a huge mound which are too good not to eat and consequently hit my waist.

Food and customer service is great, this is my eating spot when I come to Tring... Mmmm

Had their takeaway fish and chips - they are excellent. Be prepared to wait as they will be queueing out of the door, but the locals are queueing for a reason - they are superb and worth the wait.

Fish & chips on a Fridayevening is never a good idea if you are in a hurry. True to form, this place was packed with people waiting for their order number to come up. The staff team was working flat out. Large cod and chips was consumed in the car and very much enjoyed.

Delicious freshly cooked food! The portions are really generous. The shop is really cute and clean. The batter is light and crispy. Their sausages are much better quality than any I've had in a chip shop. The onion rings the best I've had outside of the US. The fish is very fresh and great quality. I highly recommend.

We usually buy chips at Ocean's and then walk into the chuch yard to enjoy the 'feast'. Woul recommend this 'Chippy' although the price of potato's makes the humble chip now the preserve of the better-off. Great chips.

Have been coming here for some time now. The fish is always fresh and cooked while you wait so expect a bit of a wait but it is worth it. One portion of chips is so large it could feed the whole street. Chip butties for lunch the next day. the batter is not too thick and the fish flaky and soft.

We're visiting the area and we're thrilled with these fish and chips. Fish was really nice and we were given the biggest portion of chips I've ever had. Not able to finish them. Staff were friendly. I would go back next time we're in the area.

I love all food from this shop. They have crispy chips and tasty fish for reasonable prices. Would recommend this. Even better than fish and chips from a pub I bought from they were expensive,chips were thin and slightly burnt and the cod had skin on.
