The Windmill in Swindon

Can't comment on the food. We had to give up after waiting pretty much an hour for some chips and leave without eating. We had asked after 40 mins and were told the food was coming which was evidently not the case. It was even more frustrating as we saw food taken to tables of people who had arrived after we had ordered. To add to the whole debacle I know have to wait for a refund for the food that we didn't receive. Very poor service.

Wonderful lunch out with hubby, new management and the food was amazing. The staff are so happy to help and look like a great team. It was busy but wait times for food was really good. Quality of food 10/10. Well done to them all !

Fantastic service, lovely food for a budget place. The best Greene King in Swindon. We had an issue with ordering and the staff were brilliant. Will continue to come back.

Food took to long other friends have said same 50mins wait and didn't seem to be many people ordering so couldn't understand the wait

Popped in for breakfast (25/10/24). I ordered a build your own bap with bacon, egg and hashbrown and a kids breakfast. The food was lovely, worth going in for, the staff were attentive, friendly and professional. Would definitely recommend if you fancy a breakfast

This is an update from a review I made 7 months ago............ My wife and I returned to the Windmill and were taken aback ! The roast was excellent! Instead of football blaring from the TVs there was some lovely music on while we ate and we could hear each other speak. The service was excellent and friendly. We were asked twice during our meal if we needed anything and if everything was ok. We had a lovely experience and will definitely be back.

Great food today, it was some of the best we have had here. Hot and fresh and compliments to the chef Paul for an amazing meal.

Liked it here, food ok, drinks ok. Prices very competitive. Would go back if in the area again. More tellys than Hughes.

Me and my girlfriend Holly come here on a Wednesday for a lil date night away from the kids Paris is always been very happy and friendly when we’ve seen her here! A great member of staff and she really does the team proud !!

Food wasn't too bad (the half a dozen chips i received), but not too good either. It took absolutely ages to come and was only about 5% full, so it wasn't the amount of customers. And between the men shouting at the football on the telly and incredibly young babies screaming, to be honest couldn't wait to get out to rest my ears!

As always freshly cooked good food at a reasonable price with friendly service.

While the pub is looking a little dated the staff are extremely friendly. Recently there have been some great improvements to the environment. The garden and seating area outside are great for families and dogs and there is a nice kids playground at the back of the building. Special mention needs to go out to Paris, Mat, and Lauren who have made a huge difference to the place.

We visited The Windmill today and was specifically looking for a pub that served Lasagne for our Autistic Son who will eat nothing but lasagne in a pub. From the minute we arrived the service was second to none. All staff were understanding of our son and made him and us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The food was great and good value for money but the fantastic service is what will make us want to return. The attentive and understanding service we received today is very rare and was very much appreciated.

I ordered a pie with mash and peas. The mash was fine, as we're the peas. The portion size of pie was sufficient, however, its the filling that disappointed. A steak and ale pie should contain some meat, this was severely lacking any real content, more sauce than anything else of substance. The pie also came with a mini jug of gravy, this was cold, stone cold. Not an issue for me as I did mot want that, but would be for many others. The meal was served quickly.

Fantastic place to take the family owners are polite and friendly as well as the bar staff.

Food is great, but DON'T use the toilets, they are in an awful state, there was no soap in dispensers and the floor was wet. No hygiene.

A bustling atmosphere full of happy people enjoying themselves, we sat down for a dinner in the corner. Food was quick to arrive, so tasty, and we really enjoyed our time here.

Me and my partner and occasionally my nephew come to this pub often when it’s date night one purely for the cheap prices and two there constant. Drinks are always good and cheap and the food is decent although I must be honest and say the food isn’t always perfect sometimes it’s dry or cold when it comes out but regardless of that we still come back because it’s a good place to go to.

Christmas Day dinner at The Windmill and it was superb in every way. The meal was magnificent, the pub was bustling and super friendly and the staff went above and beyond. Four of us had the Christmas dinner Monday last. (18th December '23) What a Christmas dinner! We were amazed at the value. About £15 per head. Crackers, Starters, main meal with generous amounts of real turkey (not the sliced variety) and mash, veg etc and a desert. Excellent value for money.

We went to the windmill on Friday night for the Christmas Dinner and it was fantastic food and the portion size was great value the roast turkey was so succulent and Christmas pudding with brandy sauce excellent and 2 courses for £11.99 was a bonus the staff were great and the table was decorated with Christmas themes 10 out of 10 for food staff and value

Wife and I popped in lunch time today-hadn't visited since earlier this year. Must be hard times for pubs these days. We must go out more often, she said (both retired). Long story short: a lovely breakfast (pensioners' special, followed by a grand desert & all included in the price!). Not too many customers there since it was mid dayish. Pleasant atmosphere and friendly bar staff and management. Shall certainly call again for same-tell chef to be ready...

Decided to go out for a guick drink and decided on a shearing platter, absolutely wonderful, great food and wonderful staff.

Had my usual excellent breakfast service and food. Not a microwaved egg in sight. Excellent service and straight in to a table.

Manager and staff make this pub. Back to the usual manager who was fantastic and her staff are a credit. Food was absolutely brilliant. Will be back again as usual.

Mens toilet floor is always swimming in water/urine. Toilet door does not lock and has not for some time. Toilet seat non existent. Bar is always out of Pino white wine. Sometimes service is extremely slow even when not busy. Been going here for some time now but standards are steadily on the decline.

We were in the area and thought we'd pop in for an evening meal. The decor is nice, and looked clean. However once we entered there was a very strong urine type smell. We still ordered some drinks, as we weren't sure if it was just one of the patrons who had a problem. Unfortunately when we sat down the smell was even stronger than when we were stood at the bar. The smell seemed to be coming from the soft furnishings. We decided not to stay for a meal, as it was very off-putting. I think they need a deep clean of the upholstery to freshen things up.

Used to come to the windmill regularly but due to my personal circumstances changing I don’t get to come over as much as I would like, after not visiting for a few months I didn’t know what to expect but I was really impressed with my visit today, my friends and I had burgers for lunch and ohhhhh my they were delicious, perfectly cooked and didn’t take too long! We were told about a 40 minute wait on food but it came out within 20 minutes so we were super happy! Shout out to all the staff working today, could see they were having a busy lunch but the lady and gent behind the bar were on the ball 👏 as great as I remembered, thanks windmill and team!!

Nice friendly atmosphere and good simple food.

I came to grab some lunch. I suffer with anxiety issues and don't like going into places where there is people I don't know however I was welcomed and served by a lady called AMBER she was very polite and friendly while I was in the pub another lady EMILY asked if the food was ok again very friendly and polite will definitely being coming back

Gotta say, the food here was brilliant. Saw it was one of the top 5 places to eat in Swindon so tried it out. All the family were delighted with the great, friendly service and food. Definitely be coming back again. Thank you for a great experience!!

Booked in for a fathers day lunch and it was a pleasant experience. Food was good and reasonably priced. The staff are always polite and welcoming.

Excellent food and excellent service. 2nd time I came here. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the food is excellent.

Had steak and salad. Menu says swap your sides for salad for lighter option so I swapped mushrooms, onion rings, chips and tomato for salad but got the smallest bit of salad ever - a sprinkle of leaves and not even half a tomato and couple of bits of pepper. My husband had as much salad on his plate as garnish.

Very nice food, service was quick and staff very polite. Great that dog's are allowed in. Do have set times for food some food up to 11.30am then lunch from 12,pm to 2.30pm do have good selection of cakes, limited to vegetarian dishes and some sell out quickly we got there at 2pm no Jacket Potatoes left. Good selection of hot drinks though.

Plenty of food options, little bit disappointed they didn't have one of the mains and puddings we wanted, however, what we did have was really nice and the service was great with a great atmosphere.

Came here this evening after googling best burgers in Swindon, the windmill came up as the second best burger in Swindon and all I can say is I’m not disappointed, if anything I’m surprised it’s not number one! Lovely burger, staff were super attentive and helpful. Alicia couldn’t do enough for us and the other lady behind the bar was happy and having a laugh with the locals which is always lovely to see. Most definitely recommend the Windmill. 10 out of 10 for service and food.

Very pleasantly surprised with my trip to the Windmill, all the family were happy. The staff couldn’t do enough for us, happy and attentive. Food was fantastic value for money. Will definitely be returning.

Nice relaxed pub, reasonable food and good value, slightly sticky floors

Despite reading our food order back to us the barmaid placed it wrong (and charged us for the expensive dish which we didn't order). Unable to check this before we are as we weren't given a receipt. We were compensated with free desserts, but they weren't anything special (and only 2 in our party wanted desserts). While the food portions were a decent size they were extremely greasy, unable to eat any of the fish batter as it was oil soaked. Paid for a portion of 2 corn on the cobs and only received one. This is a cheap pub, but it shows. Really sticky carpets (especially in the toilets) and tables, would not return.

Staff is usually very friendly, however today we had an unpleasant experience. Visited as a group of 4, 3 of us wanted to order the gammon and egg and one the all day breakfast to be told they only have 4 eggs left which is enough egg for 2 meals and the lady said we can choose something else instead of the eggs for the other 2 meals. So I asked for onion rings instead and my friend asked for extra chips. We ended up with 3 gammon&egg meals with one egg each and the all day breakfast with no egg or extra chips. Really dissapointed as not what we asked for. No apoligies from the lady when asked about what happened and no intensions to correct the mistake.

Cosy pub, when we went there was a live band. The food was hot and the staff were really nice. Place was cold though, maybe take an extra layer on a chilly night.

I got to say I had a bad experience when I went with my wife and child. We went there on a Friday at 6pm ordered our drinks and then ordered our food. After 20 mons we was told food would be another 30 mins due to staff shortage and then then wait time went up to 45mins to an hr. We got a refund and so did other people around us not very professional. And so many kids running about it was more like being at kids about.

Disappointing. Asked for a percific drink..didn't have it.usally always available. Wanted a roast dinner.. didn't have any. Ordered scampi...didn't have tartar sauce. Waited for 20 mins. When it arrived I had a dish of curry sauce with scampi. Did ask what it was and was told...that's because they had no tartar sauce. It was around 6 but not very impressed.

Nice pub, good selection of food and beer. Live in Germany, made a change from Bavarian beers. Been on a visit to see my son who lives nearby, so just legged it over to the windmill and the Tesco. Last time there in Swindon, at Christmas, received five traffic violations, bus lane and parking from Swindon Council, so I decided to go car free, green for them this time.

This is the second time we have been here and staff made us feel very welcome. this time they didn't have the food we wanted on the menu and what I ordered come out and was disappointed in the quantity. A handful of chips. Not impressed with the food side this time. But my kids love theirs which is all that matters. We will be back.

Brilliant food. My burger was cooked perfectly, my husbands salad looked delicious and his eggs were running but crispy. Both my children enjoyed their food and there was nothing left on any of our plates. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Can’t wait to go...

Very Pooorr Service and Not Organised. We Sat down for more than 1 Hour and Still Not Getting Serve. 4 Orders has been Cancelled last minute and kids not Happy for there food as its undone…the Chef needs a proper training and staff are not organised and no proper communication… very Bad Experience as a Holiday Goers, Never Again to this Place.

I said we would like a table for food, she just flicked her hand and said you can go anywhere, I did not like her tone, that is no way customer service.
