Tried ringing to make a reservation for Friday evening and the phone just rang out with no answerphone. Turned up at the restaurant and it was all shuttered up with no notice indicating prolonged Xmas holidays or anything. Presumed closed for business.

From just setting foot in the door it didn't start well both waitresses looked like they didn't want to be there and cut us a look like we were the biggest inconvenience to their evening.

They have a great deal on for 3.75 you can have a Tapas with rice, chips, salad or saute potatoes. I had the clams with rice which was very nice and a perfect size for lunch. Very friendly staff. They also do English breakfasts, coffee , sandwiches, tapas, and Portuguese mains. Yum.

We have been to the Windmill on several occasions and never been disappointed. There is a very wide choice of tapas, including meat, fish, seafood and vegetarian dishes, of Portuguese and Madeiran origin. These are all very reasonably priced. The wine is also very good value, both house white and red, served in carafes are drinkable and other wines are available at good prices. The restaurant can get crowded and service then can take a bit longer, but is generally efficient. A friend booked the whole restaurant for her birthday party and the owners made every effort to make the occasion a success, which it was.

Have been a couple of times to the Windmill now with friends. This most recent time, the outside is not promising, saturday evening and all properties either side of it as locked up, rain beating down. Open the door and suddenly the warmth of a small family restaurant embraces you. Luckily we reserved a table (that really is a must for the weekend). Over the next couple of hours, our party of 4 consumed 20 dishes, plus two bottles of Rioja and soft drinks, for about £30 a head. Fabulous value, could hardly move afterwards. There is a great range of tapas, highlights include a wonderful Cod in Cream (we ordered a second!), feijoada, and octopus. The icecream we managed to squeeze in finished the meal perfectly. The service was unrushed despite being busy, polite and friendly, it is just a lovely place to go and eat some delicious food, and relax. Highly recommended.

Visited with my girlfriend on a Wednesday evening after work.First impressions upon entry are quite pleasing, it almost has a Portuguese family feel to it and we were warmly greeted. The choice on the menu is about right, with perhaps 30 or so Tapas options covering all the bases and with no huge surprises.Overall the food was pretty tasty but was a bit too greasy but this is to be expected for the price. The wine we ordered was poured into a vase type object before it came to the table, which personally, I wasn't a fan of. I'd rather see the bottle but others may like that. The service was excellent throughout and the prices were cheap, so I would recommend this place if you haven't been before, you might love it.

An excellent, and very good value, lunch yesterday. I had the pork and bean dish with saute potatoes and my host had similar lamb. Total food cost was £8.40 for the mains. The custard tart dessert was wonderfully made and the demi-carafe of wine slipped down very easily. If I lived locally, this would be my regular haunt. I look forward to returning with family.

This is hands down me and my girlfriends favourite local restaurant. We absolutely love this place and have been here so many times, and still the menu choice leaves us spellbound with choice. We have our favourite dishes (the medeira style ones we love in particular) and we have tried all the other Tapas around locally. In particular the restaurant has great ambience, as if we were abroad, and the food is to die for. Very good value as well. Highly highly recommended and we always look forward to our next meal there.P.S The pirpiri chicken and the provincal potatoes my girlrend told me to say are her favourites. Oh and she just mentioned the Haloumi!

This is one of the few places open in the centre of Walthamstow for dining at around 8pm on a Sunday evening. The exterior at first didn't look promising - a small unit with slightly outdated signage - but the menu board posted outside had a range of exciting tapas-style dishes, and we could see other groups dining inside, so went in to check it out. We paused awkwardly in the entrance for a minute or two before a waiter greeted us and indicated a choice of tables, but once seated, menus were promptly brought. The aromas of other diners' food were enticing, and we ordered some bread, olives, and a carafe of pleasant house red wine while reading through the many options. The bread was a delicious rustic-style and the olives pungent with garlic, but we had to ask for olive oil to be brought over and felt it odd this wasn't offered automatically with the bread. Deciding was initially difficult as we were impressed by the choice on offer and the reasonable prices of around £5 per dish. Having checked on the size of portions from other customers' tables, we ordered a couple of tapas dishes each to share around, with a good balance between fish, meat, and vegetable from the wide range available. They didn't take long to arrive at the table, and we were soon tucking in. We noticed that Portuguese food has a bold level of spicing and piquancy, not alluded to on the menu, which could have been an issue for those who can't handle to much chilli, but fine for us heat-lovers. The squid with chorizo was spot-on tender, and the clams with coriander and lemon were delicate and very fine. A dish of grilled vegetables appeared a little boring – with slices of courgette and tomato – but had sweetness and bite, while sweet and sour mushrooms cooked with hot pepper strips and vinegar was unusual but great to wake up the palate, and a nice contrast to the heaver spicy beef stew, with its tender chunks of meat and some hot paprika and cinnamon in the sauce. The patatas bravas were whole baby potatoes in their skins – more pleasing taste and texture wise than the usual fried potato cubes. The highlight dish for everyone was the feijoada – a bean and pork stew that was infused with rich, comforting flavours. However even more of a highlight was the bill – around £15 each for a feast (4 people sharing) including two carafes of wine. Although service could have been a little friendlier and more attentive, overall we were very pleased with the meal and value and will definitely return.

Not enough seating side. Refused to turn on the heaters outside because the stock room is too messy to get to the switch. Ridiculous reason to not keep customers warm.

Huzzah.

It doesn't look much from the outside but it's value all the way when you are in! I don't know what he'll do when the station is finished, there's a constant stream of blokes from there. Banging breakfast and excellent value, just what you want when you see what most hotels offer these days. Spot on caff.
