Food alright much the usual right down to the sorbet. Compared with other restaurants service average that matches with the food. It was a very hit and miss experience.

Oh dear. Was really looking forward to trying this place. Place was just really annoying. Waiters with the endless water for the table question and such visible despair when no wine ordered. Main courses were minute and the fish may have weighed less than 150g!

French cuisine carries a stigma of being formal, stuffy and white table cloth. Le Chabanais is far from everything traditional - yes it is liberating and moreover fresh. At the same time the restaurant holds true to everything French being fresh, simple and delicious. To start with the chicken liver ravioli is simple but yet so flavorful in a delicious fennel broth. The Dover sole is elegant - panfried on the bone with a subtle taste of chives ! And the Mont Blanc for desert is unlike any other - light and creamy All this in a smart casual dining setting - brass covered walls with marble tabletops - just delightful

Yes, it is expensive. Yes, the portions (especially for the proteins) are on the smaller side. But it is such a treat to see, taste and experience in London the kind of cuisine that made Chateaubriand famous in Paris. True Parisian style gastronomy. Paul Boudier's use of vegetables is genius. We had the bountiful girolles to start, and the chicken liver ravioli, which was just as good as everyone has said. My boyfriend had the iberico ham, which he liked, although he mentioned the ham itself did not have much flavour but the broccoli and greens were superb. I had the rose infused pigeon and Sicilian onions - absolutely stunning. The pigeon was perfectly tender and flavourful in a lightly perfumed rose sauce. We shared the caponata between us, and as a half Italian, I was delightfully surprised. Perfectly cooked aubergine in a delicate, light and delicious tomato sauce. The brass and marble room is visually stunning. Especially loved the long brass bar. The cocktail bar downstairs is less so, I thought it would be more plush to evoke the restaurant's namesake, but the cocktails are of high quality.Go for the atmosphere, and the food. It's definitely worth it.

Lovely interior. Food looks beautiful but tiny portions for the price & some things didn't overwhelm.Octopus stew - not enough get up & go. Just octopus in its ink.Chicken pasta parcels in broth - lovely but tiny portion. 4 very slim parcels in broth.Lamb - most successful, fresh, spring-like but again tiny. 2 beautiful but tiny lamb chops.Sweetbreads - sold very heavily by the waiter. Again looked beautiful but not no stand out flavours.most successful are the puddings - cherry ice cream with kalamata olives & straweberries under a cloud-like cream. It's too expensive for the portion sizes & nothing really makes you say 'OMG'.Nice, intelligent service.

Really disappointing following the hype before it finally opened. The room was lacking atmosphere and felt a bit sterile and the food which followed, although not badly done, was bland and dissatisfying. The Tuna especially should be avoided. On a positive note the bread was the best I have had and the wine, albeit too expensive, was excellent as was the service. Much room for improvement.

I had an initial reservation here when they were opening but unfortunately they had some issues with opening and all bookings were cancelled. As I work nearby I noticed last week that it was now open so came here for a business lunch last week with some colleagues. Service started well at about 12.15 when there weren't many diners in the restaurant. However as it got business it was hard to attract the attention of the wait staff who don't seem to look up and keep an eye out for diners trying to catch their eye. It took over ten minutes to try and get the bill and then over another give to try and pay it. Service aside the food was pretty good depending on what you ordered. If you order well like a French man, you will be fine. The seafood soup (forget exactly what it is called but there is only one) is good and the sole was also delicious (although £36). The veal flatbread isn't really a flatbread and was very average but the aubergine was deliciously smoky. The tandoori quail starter was not that nice. There is a bread entree and radishes too but they don't give you plates for this so you are buttering in your hand which is awkward. This is a personal hate at restaurants. Decor is fine, nice even but not something that I noticed especially so not something to write about.Overall fine for a business lunch. I would be disappointed spending my own money there with friends though as for the price paid (apprx £250 for 3 people including service at 12.5%) it was too pricey. Other places in the area are better for the same price or less (eg. Chucks round the corner although that is much smaller).

Oh dear. We had high hopes for this place, having had a fantastic meal at Mugaritz a few years back and two superlative experiences at Le Chateaubriand. This place does Inaki Aizpitarte a disservice and should be avoided by anyone expecting the following: great food; lovely ambiance; good service. I don't usually pen reports of truly bad experiences, but this one was up there with the worst (for somewhere costing comfortably north of £100 a head), so I thought I would share it with others. First...

We were disappointed when our original booking had to be cancelled but it was well worth the wait for Le Chabanais! The elegantly understated dining room with beautiful clean lines give an indication of the sophisticated simplicity that we were going to experience. The menu looked very basic and gave very little indication of the delights to come! My husband started with the Chicken liver ravioli with fennel broth which he thought was outstanding and I had the Cornish crab, coriander flowers...

We went there after seeing the reviews, and the reviews are OK! The place is very outdated, the food was very basic, nothing special. The starter we ordered, was extremely disappointing, We had Dirty Fries, which was nothing but standard fries with some low-quality bacon added to it - The Fried squids were horrible, chewy and not fresh at all. Uploading pictures of the main we had below. The menu for drinks was okay; however, they advertised malted beer as Pale Ale. Ridiculous! I won't go back again. The waiter was friendly and nice, but the food was awful.

Tried ringing to make a reservation for Friday evening and the phone just rang out with no answerphone. Turned up at the restaurant and it was all shuttered up with no notice indicating prolonged Xmas holidays or anything. Presumed closed for business.
