This is a really fun take on your traditional high tea and a refreshing change if you haven't tried it before.Having been to the Pret-a-portea a few years I go I was quite excited to return. It was good but not amazing. Whilst I appreciate the fantastic service there were still little things here and there where they missed the mark this time around namely:-Promoting that they serve from one list of teas for the savoury component and another for the sweet but then forgetting to take our order for the second tea.-The quality of cakes and savouries weren't as high as last time. Some cakes were sickly sweet and the savouries weren't really of a 5 star standard. I will give the chefs credit for creating some tasty items with vibrant colors and a gorgeous comparison to the fashion items they were inspired by however I would still at the end of the day like to enjoy eating them. I think I would have enjoyed it more had there been fewer fashion inspired super sweet items and maybe some traditional scones in their stead. The crockery and menus all themed for the occasion are lovely as is the Caramel room. It is a lovely experience but best suited to those with a sweet tooth or those who haven't yet been.

This is my 2nd visit to this afternoon tea and really enjoyed this afternoon tea. I love this because -1 - Efficient and friendly service. Staff knowledge of the food are helpful2. Just love the food art from all the treats, both savoury and sweet, inspired by high end fashion designer names. All tasted delicious and certainly didn't leave hungry.3. Lovely ambience and atmosphere It is a little more pricey than other afternoon tea. However, given amount of work to present the treats in such beautiful and fun way, it is worth paying a little more for a memorable experience.

My mum, sister and I have a girls trip to London every year and afternoon tea is always a part of it. We have visited a number of the large hotels including The Mayfair, The Hilton and The Metropolitan but none of these compare to the delight that was waiting for us at The Berkley! The staff were welcoming and friendly and explained every part of the afternoon tea from the flavours to the inspiration behind each of the cakes. There was a great selection of teas, I tried the Gorgeous Ginger and my sister the Pear Caramel. Both were a welcome change from a bog standard brew! Everything from the sandwiches to the cakes were delicious and the detail was fantastic. The best part of the afternoon was that our plates were never empty, everytime we polished off a layer it was replenished immediately, we were even asked if there were any cakes we would like to take home - of course we took them up on this and they presented us with a handbag shaped box full of treats. I would thoroughly recommend the afternoon tea here and would return every weekend if I could - although I'm not sure my waistline would thank me!

Enjoyed an excellent afternoon tea at the Berkeley. I am the firs to admit that I am not a huge fan of afternoon tea as it tends to be laden with plate after plate of diabetes inducing treats. The atmosphere here is a lot more relaxed than say at the Savoy or Claridges - the crowd here a lot more youthful. As such this is reflected in the whole afternoon tea experience which is given a twist as the cakes and pastries are based on the latest couture designs. Very ingenious indeed. We started off with some sandwiches followed by the traditional tea stand featuring both sweet and savoury pastries. There was great balance and variety in selection here. Our servers were charming, efficient and friendly, and we were in no way rushed through our meal. Overall, this was a very enjoyable experience and one which will appeal more to the trendy, younger crowd doing a spot of shopping in Knightsbridge.

I was so excited about coming here for afternoon tea. Unfortunately the food and service was not was I was expecting. The sandwiches were just weird! Not tasty at all, the combination was just strange for example gerkhin sandwich! The sweets had the oddest combinations and were not tasty at all. They were though very pretty to look at. We were shocked when told we didn't have scones and had to pay extra! The service was poor, we waited 10 mins for someone to take our tea order then another 10 to receive the tea. The caramel room is a lovely area, our table was in a prime area, very stylish and inviting. I have had many afternoon teas and this was by far the worse. There are many more out there so do try those before coming to The Berkley.

The sandwiches where delicious with the different breads the staff kindly changed the meat for vegetarian for my friend! It was a birthday celebration so a plate with Happy Birthday written in chocolate with a lit candle in strawberries & 2 chocolate came as a extra treat! The restaurant staff were attentive & we loved the handbag with treats to takeaway! 2 negatives we found were 1 the price £41.00 & then 12.5% added I spend alot of time trying out afternoon teas & the price is steep! I understand the time that it must take to design the treats would go towards this..& 2 not all the flavours of the sweet treats were balanced with the pure excellence of the collection visually!

The sandwiches were very good, the savory treats were excellent (especially the crab cones) and the sweets were beautiful and very tasty. The atmosphere was a little sombre, but it livened up as the afternoon went on (possibly due to the champagne being served at the other tables). Definitely an expensive way to spend the afternoon, but as a special treat I think it's well worth it.(Note to the impossibly snooty Americans sitting across from us: Lighten up! After extensive research on places for "best afternoon tea in London" I settled on The Berkeley Hotel's Caramel Room for their "Pret-a-Portea." What a novel concept! Reservations were made online for Good Friday about a month in advance & were reconfirmed via email. After running around London all week on a hectic schedule, the girls in our group (me, my sister & 13 year-old niece) were looking forward to a relaxed afternoon of tea & shopping. We arrived a few minutes early & were seated at a lovely table in front of the window. The wait staff were very friendly and attentive & made us feel very welcome. We did not feel rushed & were encouraged to eat as much as we liked & sample as many teas as well. Their specialty are their cakes & confections which are "designer-inspired" by current runway trends of the season, more like little works of art, in addition to the traditional tea sandwiches. My niece was especially impressed with the experience. We finished the day with shopping in Knightsbridge, what else? While a bit pricey, it is definitely worth the experience. Highly recommended!

We finished everything on the stand and were still offered a takeaway box. All of the cakes and sandwiches were delicious and I would highly recommend this very special afternoon tea. So I booked the fabulous fashionista afternoon tea in the Caramel Room at the Berkeley over the telephone (online booking said there were no tables available) and it was fantastic from start to finish. We were celebrating my cousins graduation and there were five of us in our party. We had two fussy eaters - a vegetarian and a no mayo who were looked after exceptionally well without any problems. The sandwiches were brought first. The individual plates were a nice touch and were replenished several times. The fillings were very enjoyable and the homemade bread delicious. The Berekeley Blend tea was very nice as was the Laurent-Perrier!When the cakes and biscuits were brought out the tea stand was breathtaking. The cakes are all inspired by fashion with influences by Burberry, Emporio Armarni, Jean Paul Gaultier, Saint Laurent, Vivienne Westwood, Miu Miu, and Oscar de la Renta. My favorite was the the Emporio Armarni violet cassis mousse and light Curacao jelly topped with chocolate swirl. The presentation was really out of this world and it was this that really set this afternoon tea apart. We were all given a little cardboard handbag to take away with two little cakes inside which was a nice touch. This afternoon tea was very reasonably priced at £41If you have anyone who enjoys fashion or for a classic afternoon tea with an edge this is a must. Compared to other afternoon tea's in the area I would say the waiting staff were more forthcoming with more sandwiches than the Ritz and you were made to feel more special but I don't think the sandwiches themselves were as nice as those in the F&M Diamond Jubilee Tea Room. The cakes beat both the ritz and F&M on presentation and originality. For classic cakes F&M still just has the edge. Will defiantly be going again!

Jan. / Feb. 2014 Pret-a-Portea @ the Caramel Room || Berkeley Hotel || London:Having heard so many good things about the Pret-a-Portea at The Berkeley we decided to try it while we were staying there.See also our review. The tea was served at the Caramel Room, which was designed by Alexandra Champalimaud. We booked online at the hotel's website ca. 4 weeks before. We were lucky seatings were still available on Friday afternoon, but Saturday and Sunday were already booked out.We chose consciousiously the seating at 16.30 hours, because we were checking out at the Intercontinental Park Lane (see also review) the same day and wanted to make sure we could check in at The Berkeley, photograph the room and make ourselves fresh. It was perfectly timed. The Pret-a-Portea was originally created in 2005 to bring in shoppers from the surrounding Knightsbridge/Mayfair area. It was only planned to be temporary, but the tea was such a success it stayed for good.As the name suggests Pret-a-Portea is fashion inspired, so there is a spring/summer and autumn/winter "collection".We had to wait a bit before our table was ready. There was a name sign in the shape of a pink high heel marking it.We had a table in the middle of the room. The clientele was international. Our waitress explained to us how the afternoon tea functioned since it was our first time we took part. We could have from everything second or more helpings and we could even try different teas or have refills. We were also asked for any food intolerances or allergies. We chose Amazing Apple and Pear Caramel Tea. One of us enjoyed also a glass of Laurent Perrier Rose Champagne. The china was designed by Paul Smith - a perfect fit to the exhibition ["Hello, My Name is Paul Smith"] we did visit at the Design Museum during our stay at the Berkeley Hotel.First arrived the sandwiches - all were fantastic and since they were so tasty we asked for another round of the egg and ham sandwiches. They were our favourites. One bread type was especially unusual it was made with beetroot. Another one was lemon flavoured. The shapes were round and squared.Next were the savouries - no scones - BBQ roast duck tartlets, goats cheese, chilled water cress soup, chestnut panna cotta and marinated sword fish.Everything was great. The chilled water cress soup and the goats cheese were our favourites. The highlight was of course the sweets. There was a Burberry Trench Coat, a Giovanni Rossi over the knee boot ginger bread, an Emporio Armani and Jean Paul Gaultier inspired cream/mousse, a Saint Laurent Victoria Sponge Cake bag, a Vivienne Westwood macaroon, a Miu Miu Polka Dot Jaconde and Gianduia Mousse, a Giles Sacher Torte and an Oscar de la Renta Orange Bavarois. All was decadent, creative and full in flavour.Stand outs were the Emporio Armani violet cassis mousse with light Curacao jelly and the Jean Paul Gaultier gold quilted banana and caramel cremeaux and passion fruit compote. It was amazing and we were totally spoiled, getting second helpings from everything and even though we said we were fine the staff double checked there wasn't really a need for third servings. It was the most generous afternoon tea we ever had.The staff was always there when needed, engaging and passionate - finding just the right balance between being professional and warm, but discreet. You could see they enjoyed what they were doing and seemed sad to see us go.We received two little carton handbags filled with a few more goodies as present before leaving.Cost was 108 GBP (ca. 130.50 Euro / ca. 180.80 USD) including service charge - time and money well spent. We would recommend the Pret-a-Portea highly. It's unique, tasty and inspirational.Would we recommend this Afternoon Tea to a friend? YES!Would we again partake at this Afternoon Tea in the future? YES!

A really lovely treat at The Berkeley Hotel. Great food, lovely tasting, beautifully decorated biscuits and you can even take home the leftovers. There Amber tea is amazing. I have now been five times and although the shine is a wee bit less than it was...it is still a great way to spend an afternoon!

This is the second time visit of The Caramel Room, and again this afternoon tea is really fantastic. I guess here is very famous for fashionable shape of cakes, but the food quality is very good. In my more than 10 different afternoon tea experience, the cakes are one of the best. I can enjoy around 10 diferent type of pastries, it's just amazing. And this afternoon service is also excellent. The staffs spontaneously bring another plates without any charges as much as we want, and we can bring the cakes back to home. Some other afternoon tea also have the same service, but in my feeling, the staff services are immense.

If you want an afternoon tea with a twist this is perfect. Had to call in advance to make them aware of the allergies of one of our party and they rose to the occasion perfectly ... they spoke to him personally and brought him his own tray of goodies! Sandwiches are delicious but the piece de resistance is the cakes, mousses and pastries all themed around current fashion house collections. Two of us had house champagne filled to the brim ... delicious and the others were treated to a Caramel Room special non-alcoholic cocktail which you have to try. Staff were smartly dressed, knowledgeable and attentive All in all a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

The Bottom Line: Expensive, but delicious restaurant which delivers an excellent breakfast buffet and tea service. The Great: The food and service. I ate here both in the mornings at the breakfast buffet and also did afternoon tea. The breakfast buffet had a good variety of what you would expect (fruit, eggs, breakfast, etc). The tea service was also impressive. At the time (summer 2013), the tea theme was high fashion, with “designer” inspired cakes (mini purses, etc). It was a bit over the top, but the pastries were excellent and the tea was superb. It should also be noted the service was impeccable at both meals. The Pricey: Like everything in this neighborhood, you’re paying for what you get. But if you can afford to eat here, you get your money’s worth.

We booked a fee months in advance as the afternoon tea bookings get booked up fast! The standard afternoon tea sitting is £39 each and in my opinion is worth it. As you enter the berkeley the caramel room is on your right, we were seated straight away at a table for two right by the window on the outer edge of the room which we thought was nice as we had a bit of a view, and meant wr could chat without being in the middle of every other customer. We were given a menu to choose our tea, the options are vast, like English breakfast, african amber, assam, mint, etc and then a selection of fruit and herbal teas. They offer you the champagne option but we declined as this is £50 each approx. Once the tea is brought out they offer you sandwiches and savoury food, me being vegetarian I had advised them in advance and they were fully prepared and asked me whether I ate fish, egg or cheese. I told them what I ate and they brought out the tastiest sandwiches I think iI've ever had! !! (Cream cheese & cucumber, sweet pepper & rocket, cheese and onion, and mozzarella & tomato) my friend had salmon, cream cheese and cucumber and egg. They were nicely presented on the plate. Whilst we were eating thesr they brought over the 3 tier display of cakes and other savories. We had 2 mouse desserts on the top with shortcake biscuits, small cakes & macaroons on the middle plate, and savoury food like a small glass of watercress soup, spoons with cold fish, artichoke, aubergine pastry & vegetables and duck pastries. They even brought out and additional plate of vegetarian savoury snacks. The staff constantly come and check they your ok, if you would like a refil of tea or would you like to try a different tea. They ask if you would like refills of sandwiches, cakes any thing you want and they will keep refilling it. As much as you want!!!! No extra charge, which for the price, and the type of place your at I think thats well worth the money spent. All the sweets are based on the fashion of the season, they had only been running the autumn/winter collection for a few days before we arrived which I was glad we got to see a new collection as it was fab!Little trench coat and knee high boot biscuits, a green mint macaroon, pink spotty cake, chocolate cake with a gold leaf on top, all inspired by the fashion season. Perfect girly afternoon tea!! The tea set was lovely, a wedgewood with a multi coloured pattern. The tea itself was lovely I had a decaffeinated english breakfast & my friend tried assam and african amber which she thoroughly enjoyed! All the teas are loose leaf which was nice. I have marked the atmosphere as a 4 as there wasnt any background music or anything, you can people watch and chat but its very loud in there due to everyone having a good old chin wag. Dont be afraid to take photos people are snapping away constantly and no one gives you odd looks. They add a discretionary 12.5% service charge on the bill too.Overall I cant fault the berkeley for the sitting, lovely food, catered to my vegetarian and very fussy needs, kept replenishing anything we wanted and were very polite and helpful. They also ask if you want to take a goody bag home with a couple of cakes in!

The Caramel Room's Pret-a-portea is a fashion inspired delight. While the literal minded will enjoy the tiny Manolo biscuits, the tea shines with the other sweets a Marc Jacobs honey confection inspired by his honeycomb dress, the sophisticated white chocolate and orange yummy inspired by prada's geisha dress. It was a lovely tea. Best suited for girlfriend's celebrations. My poor husband couldn't quite understand my glee over everything. The only caution is give is if you're looking for an afternoon meal or are traveling with boys or young men you'd do best to look elsewhere.

I read about the Fashionista tea at the Caramel Room at the Berkeley Hotel. It's not to be missed! It's walking distance (a few blocks) from Harrod's so the location is great! The service is very good. Our waitress was from another country (Eastern Europe?) and she was the nicest, friendliest, most helpful waitress ever! We loved her! I've never had tea where they will constantly replenish whatever you want, as many times as you want. Want more pastries? Sure, they'll bring you more? Want to try a different type of tea? Sure, no extra cost! Amazing! Also, they gave us a goodie bag to go of extra sweets in the cutest box shaped like a handbag! I tried 3 different teas - some I liked, some were strange. The one with the dried fruit was strange. I loved the fact that there is a little metal tiered shelf next to you to put your teapot and other things should it become too crowded on the table. That's just genius! An extra table to put your tea things (milk, sugar, teapot). And not to forget the (Pret-a-Portea) fashionista part. I loved the fact that each item was based on an item from a fashion designer's current collection. The cookies were made to look like a handbag, shoes (Manolo Blahnik I think?), the pastries were inspired by specific designers and their clothes. Every year it changes, based on the new collections of different designers. And you don't have to order tea. You can order off the regular menu. My friend had a caesar salad which she said was very good. And even though she didn't order afternoon tea, she was ALSO given a little handbag box full of tea pastries to go. How can you not like this place? Simply amazing service, food, ambiance. Be sure to book in advance though. We saw a couple of baby/wedding showers and even some men not ordering tea so men won't feel uncomfortable there. It's not too precious for men.

Enjoyed the Pret-a-Portea Fashionista afternoon tea at The Berkley so much! It was absolutely gorgeous. The sandwiches were lovely but it's the cakes that are out of this world. It's a real girls afternoon tea. The cakes are the latest shoes, clothes or handbags from all the top designers. The detail that goes into them is exquisite. The atmosphere is great in their and the staff are so nice and welcoming. When they found out it was my Birthday they bought me out another cake with a little candle. We even left with a box of cakes. Well worth the money for the Champagne tea and will absolutely go again.

We booked the Pret-a-Portea afternoon tea for a hen party and were not disappointed! The venue was lovely and the staff were impeccable, we felt very important and well looked after. We were welcomed with a glass of champagne and then the perfect little sandwiches arrived. The choices were; egg mayonnaise, mushroom, salmon and cream cheese, cucumber and cream cheese. These were brought round to us continually until we couldn't fit in any more! Then came the cake stands. Filled with a mix of savoury and sweet goodies all with a nod to this seasons fashion trends. These were AMAZING! So tasty and different, a real treat.Again, these were replenished throughout the afternoon, so we certainly didn't go hungry! Plus what we didn't manage to eat, was boxed up in Berkeley branded card box boxes as a take out.We had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend it.

They call it Pret-a-Portea and I call it pure indulgence! Take a classic afternoon tea of neatly trimmed sandwiches and add a seection of beautifuly designed confections with a fashion twist. The Prêt-à-Portea collection sees designers such as Manolo Blahnik, Yves Saint Laurent and Marc Jacobs grace the Berkeley's tea stand as Prêt-à-Portea adds a creative twist to the classic elements of the traditional English afternoon tea with cakes and pastries resembling the latest catwalk designs for the style conscious. As in the fashion world the designs are constantly changing so expect to see new designers featured every six months or so.It's all very delicious and the attention to detail by the chef almost makes it impossible to destroy his works of art by eating the delicacies!Proces range from £39-£55 depending on whether you choose to have tea or a range of champagnes with your food.Be warned, I'm writing this on 25 April and you can't get a table on a weekend until sometime in August so book well ahead to avoid disappointment...

Celebrated my mother-in-law's 70th Birthday with my husband and 2 year old daughter. Booked a week ahead for a Saturday in January but I think we were extremely lucky to get a table. When we arrived there appeared to be a mix up with our reservation although this handled promptly and we used the bathrooms and admired the lobby flowers while we waited. The food was delicious and beautifully presently and I enjoyed the explanatory booklet with pictures of the fashion designs on which the cakes and desserts were based. My favourites were the 'boot biscuit' and the 'green handbag'. Our daughter was made very welcome and given a complimentary hot chocolate as well as her own goody bag when we left. The only downside was the service, which though friendly, was a little erratic. Sugar had to requested twice and plates and cutlery were cleared but not replenished. Despite this it was a great way to celebrate a special occasion and I would like to return to see what the next fashion scene inspires.

Afternoon Tea at the Caramel Room is something you would do if you had visitors to London looking for a slightly off-beat afternoon tea experience.Staff are exceptionally friendly although there are times they are so busy you do not necessarily get the prompt service you would expect. Once they do attend to you, they do go out of their way to anticipate your needs and offer a personalised service. The food is perhaps the biggest disappointment here. Firstly the champagne served was warm - although promptly replaced with a chilled glass. The sandwiches were generally okay although the bread was stale on several of them and the fillings were very uninspiring. The cakes/desserts/pastries are a work of art and whilst fascinating to look at, they were not always as enjoyable in terms of taste. Some savoury dishes were provided although these were almost too complicated for their own good. It was almost a case of some things needing to be more simple (but done well) and others needing more attention and inspiration. As others have mentioned, there are no scones provided although you can order these if you wish. Replenishments and a highly fashionable take-away bag are offered. For the price of this afternoon tea, I would probably only suggest going once and going with managed expectations. It's a nice experience, but not necessarily a gourmet one.

We visited for Pret a Porter afternoon tea in the Caramel Room to celebrate my Mums birthday together with my 18 year old daughter. I booked several weeks in advance, you'd need to book a few months ahead for a weekend booking. Afternoon tea with a difference was promised and they certainly delivered with a beautiful range of cakes and biscuits inspired by the fashions of the season. We started with a glass of champagne and a dainty plate of sandwiches arrived promptly. This was followed by a beautiful three tier stand with delicious canapés, various stunning cakes, biscuits and mousses all themed to link with the fashion pieces. They were all tasty and the waiting staff offered replenishments for each of the layers as we finished each layer and our tea was topped up unobtrusively throughout. Scones weren't included but we didn't miss them. The service was really outstanding, attentive but discreet, we certainly didn't feel rushed and were presented with a lovely goody bag with more cakes to take away at the end of the meal. Overall for the quality we felt it represented pretty good value at £39 per head or £49 with champagne. A great treat all round.

We had dinner there a few nights ago and no one enjoyed their food. Burger overcooked. scallops tasteless and chewy. Sirloin overcooked and chewy. Fish too dry....Lunch and dinner there are not worth it, there are better places around that area. But i have to say that their afternoon Pret-a-portea teatime is quite popular.I myself experienced it in 2008 and it was quite fun and nice looking. Booked the Berkeley for afternoon tea with my 3 friends - one of which was celebrating a birthday. Had a wonderful afternoon - enjoyed by all. The service was impeccable. We were seated early with no fuss. We were then given an explanation of what to expect and time to peruse the menu prior to picking our tea/coffee of in my case - fresh orange juice. Nothing was too much trouble. I don't drink coffee or tea and they served me freshly squeezed orange juice on my request with no fuss. My friends birthday (mentioned on the booking form) was recognised and a plate served with chocolates and a happy birthday message. Yes they probably do something like this for all celebrations but the fact that they remembered and did something was extra special. The cakes were fabulous. They were willing to replenish absolutely everything and we each left with a small bag containing three cakes each. A wonderful day - wonderful staff - wonderful setting. Would definitely recommend!

Fashionista Tea was so exciting with all the little added extras provided. The Staff were really lovely, chatty and seemed as pleased as we were when explaining the different dishes. There was plenty to eat but if you were still peckish, the staff were more than happy to provide extra. We were lucky that we could take what ever booking they had, and booked a week prior to the visit, otherwise we would have need to book well in advance. Most unusual high tea ever! Love the name of it too! What a special experience. The setting is quite opulent, a beautifully appointed room in a grand hotel in a swanky part of London. If the Paul Smith crockery doesn't catch your eye, the dessert platter definitely does! The service is very attentive. There are cute little touches everywhere - the reservation card on the table (with our name on it) is in the shape of a pink heel. There are the obligatory finger sandwiches of course, followed by a tiered platter of a mixture of sweet & savoury morsels. Don't overdose on the (mostly) yummy savoury treats as the sweet ones are just mini works of art! The cakes and desserts are based on the current season runway creations - Manolo Blahniks, the latest YSL bag (green couverture chocolate "bag" containing a teeny green victorian sponge within), Prada, to name but a few. It's fun working out which dessert goes with which fashion item - they provide a little brochure for this. And they don't just look good - they're yummy too. Unfortunately, I got full very quickly so did not enjoy all the pieces as much as I wanted to. Do not eat a meal prior to your booking. I didn't need dinner either. They seriously keep coming back with more!!!They even gave us each a beautifully-designed "doggy bag" (if you could call it that!). Book WAY ahead - I suggest a lunchtime sitting - that way you can have a very light early breakfast (if at all!), and dinner will be optional. It could take a good 2-3 hours just savouring the food & atmosphere! Go with friends for a special treat!

It is an admittedly big call, however I can confidently claim that the Prét-a-Portea at The Caramel at the Berkeley Hotel in Kinghtsbridge is the best anywhere available. The attentiveness and professionalism of the staff at the Caramel Room is matched by the excellent savouries, sandwiches and petit fours. But best of all is the actual inventiveness of the Prét-a-Portea concept. Celebrating fashion milestones with cakes and pastries is a great idea in itself, but only a skilled kitchen could pull the idea off without making the result look like a child's birthday party. Thankfully the Berkeley staff are up to the task magnificently. The results look almost too good to eat!If you're after not only a wonderful afternoon tea, but great champagne, excellent service and a wonderful inventive idea, then you cannot go past The Caramel Room.

On Wednesday December 12th I had the festive afternoon tea at The Berkeley in their Caramel Room and had a wonderful time. The hotel was decorated with beautiful Christmas decorations including real trees with feathered birds and delicate baubles- a very effective seasonal look. The doormen have very impressive tailored outfits and bowler hats and were very efficient in getting a taxi for us afterwards. The cloakroom staff lady was a delight as well- very friendly- in fact all the staff embodied the very essence of loveliness! The Paul Smith china is beautiful and in general the ambience of the room was discreet elegance. My only slight disappointment is that our table was behind a pillar so we didn’t get a sense of a grand room- in fact the Caramel Room is not really that grand- perhaps I am unfairly comparing it to the Foyer in Claridges or the parlour at The Ritz where tea was taken- this is much more understated but in a classy way!The tea serving ladies wore beautiful dark blue gowns and the men were dressed up in suits- very smart indeed! They introduced each menu item and explained each flavor combination. The Festive tea included a glass of champagne but there was no real nod to it being nearly Christmas or indeed why it was being labelled as a festive tea- no Christmas flavours like spiced fruits or marzipan although one of the canapés did include turkey and chestnut which was delicious. My only slight disappointment was with the sandwich selection- they tasted fridge cold and a couple of them had bread that was a little too firm. Butter was also fridge firm in the salmon and butter sandwich - room temperature would have given a better mouth feel and flavour for sure. After the sandwiches- we were offered more- which we did opt for and then a tiered stand was brought over with savoury canapés. Following that two plates of the fashionista inspired sweets had us in awe!The Autumn winter fashion range evidenced on the plate was stunning and each confection not only looked good but tasted great. The Laboutin shoe filled with chocolate hazelnut praline was a corker! As was the maple and ginger shoe biscuit and the rose ganache macaroon. One huge positive for me is that replenishment of the tea was continuous and we never needed to ask ourselves- they simply anticipated it and brought over new plates as well as fresh tea. We had the last sitting of the day which was at 5pm and we didn’t feel remotely rushed or pressurized to leave. Would I go back? I can’t wait for the new Spring Summer collection and to see how they interpret the fashion designs into miniature creations on a tea stand-. The patisserie chefs are at the top of their game here- My mother and I both really enjoyed it!

I brought a gift experience for afternoon tea as a Christmas present for my mother in law and sister in law ad we all love fashion. On arrival we were 20 minutes early but the staff were very attentive and seated us straight away. The menus were in bright neon colours and the reserved sign on table in shape of a shoe. The sandwiches arrived which were more interesting than other afternoon teas I have been to. My sister in law is quite a fussy eater and the staff did not hesitate to make her a plate of sandwiches of her choice. The cakes were scrumptious and very pretty almost too good to eat, as well as sandwiches as cakes we were also served a selection of savoury snacks. Again something that made the Berkley outshine any other afternoon tea. Our plates were replenished many times throughout our sitting and we felt guilty leaving them at the end. On departure we were given a doggie bag with 2 cakes to take away. Champagne was £120 a bottle but expected due to location and 12.5% service charge bumped up the bill. I will defiantly be recommending to my friends and be returning with my mum in the new year!

I went to the berkley for their pret a portea, and I found it simply amazing, firstly you get the sandwiches, all different flavours on different breads, 5 each, little exquisite little things. Then you get the main tray, in the bottom their are many different tasters and the most delicious cucumber gaspacho, them in the middle there are lots of exquisite looking cakes themes around the latest fashions, so every time you go you'll get a different experience, my favourite was the blubbery hand bagBut my favourite layer was the top, a chocolate shoe biscuit that was neon green with a red sole, a bikini biscuit and two mousses1 with a leg and skirt sticking out!All the staff had pretty outfits and were very coteas, I had an amazing time I the grand building known as the Berkeley

The Caramel Room is inside the Berkley Hotel. The room itself is quite small and I would definitely recommend booking in advance. There were five of us and we were seated on a small table. However, this did not spoil the experience. We saw other people asking for a table that were turned away. (This was on a Sunday at 2pm)All of the cups, saucers, teapots etc were Paul Smith China and really funky. The menus are bringht pink/yellow/green and have cool captions on them like "Fabulous Darling!" Made it feel quite modern, despite being in a very traditional room. The staff were very attentive and although quite posh, they were very friendly and helpful. The food was amazing and really enjoyable. Two of our party were vegetarian and the staff accommodated this very well. We had savouries consisting of salmon sandwiches, mini egg mayo brioches, pesto and mozarella wraps, crab mousse, feta mousse etc etc. Every time we finished something, we were asked if we wanted more. The cakes were fantastic - they tasted as good as they looked and they were all so unique - coffee mousse cake, mint & strawberry mousse, handbag cakes, cakes with edible flowers, Laboutin shoe cookie etc. Everything was finished to a high standard, and again, everything was re-filled. You definitely get your monies worth and leave feeling very full! The tea selection was really good - white peony, fresh mint, lemon & melon etc etc.A 12.5% service charge was added to our bill which bumped the already expensive price up. (£39 without a glass of champagne, £55 with the champagne and £14 for every glass afterwards). When we arrived we were asked if we would like a glass of champagne and once we said yes, whether we would like rosé or regular. We opted for rosé but it wasn't until we received the bill that we found out the rosé was £5 extra per glass!! Had we known that, we probably would have had the regular. There is a cloakroom for you to use and the bathrooms are very nice too! When we left we were given a "doggie bag" which was a bright pink/green handbag with two cakes each in it. Nice touch! We really enjoyed our experience, we spent a good few hours in there and weren't rushed. Although we found it expensive, it was a good, girly fun afternoon.

I went for afternon tea at The Berkeley because i love fashion and had done all the tradition tea places so wanted something different. I loved the Paul Smith china its a great look for the tea and makes it so pretty. A lovely glamourous feel. They food was nice and they were happy to make me a couple of different sandwiches as i didnt like one of them. Everyone was polite but i didnt feel the service was very personal. It felt like just another day serving tea for the staff. Also the tables were very close together. I nice change but i wont be returning as it just wasnt wow enough for me.

Booked this as a surprise for my friend's birthday. Arrived and found the staff to be slightly condecending when I asked where the Caramel Room was. Was taken to where my friend was already seated. Found the entire thing too stuffy and irritating at first. I just wanted to go and hug my friend and say happy birthday to her, and found one of the waiters following me and practically pulling the coat from my hand to take to the cloakroom. We ordered and after a while the food came. It looked fantastic and we tucked in. Some of the biscuits were a bit dry, and there was not much of the food itself. The waiter assured us he would be topping the treats up, however only 3 items were topped up during the 2 hours we were there. Waiter was a bit clumsy dropping chunks of my caramel tea around and spent too much time faffing around. Another thing I noticed was that there was not 2 of each item. In some other teas I have been to, they ensure they provide you with two of each cake or treat so that you can both enjoy. I had not told anyone there that it was for a birthday trip, however they brought out a little dish with a DNKY handbag on it (with a candle), 'Happy Birthday' written in chocolate and a fruit skewer which was lovely. However, half an hour later, a separate waitress brought out another one and gave it to me this time. Quite bizarre (and mine had no fruit skewer). We were left alone after all this for the next 45 minutes or so, with no one offering us any addition drinks or topping up our treats. We decided to leave and the waitress was really nice and brought out our little take-away handbag shaped bags with 2 treats each in.There was then confusion as to where our items were in the cloakroom as the waitress had taken our cloakroom card with her by accident.Overall- beginning seemed like they were trying too hard but by the end of it I think they had given up.Not bad if you're a fashion fan- my friend absolutely loved the little novel biscuits and cakes. However considering the price etc, I would say you're better off going to the Sanderson or Harrods.

Not enough seating side. Refused to turn on the heaters outside because the stock room is too messy to get to the switch. Ridiculous reason to not keep customers warm.

Huzzah.

Tried ringing to make a reservation for Friday evening and the phone just rang out with no answerphone. Turned up at the restaurant and it was all shuttered up with no notice indicating prolonged Xmas holidays or anything. Presumed closed for business.

It doesn't look much from the outside but it's value all the way when you are in! I don't know what he'll do when the station is finished, there's a constant stream of blokes from there. Banging breakfast and excellent value, just what you want when you see what most hotels offer these days. Spot on caff.
