A wonderful cafe full of character, the menu was so varied so it was hard to choose . Each meal that passed our table looked delicious. I opted for the quiche but sadly none left so I had ham egg and chips . Ham was cooked just right with two fresh fried eggs with runny yolks and the chip were to die for .

Unfortunately although a great spot and of our brunch meals lacked. Had the eggs with avocado. Came out on a tiny piece of sour dough. I'd not had breakfast or anything prior expecting a good brunch. It was very small. Eggs were perfect poach though. Partners breakfast was yummy and I had to steal some to make up for my tiny portion. I left feeling hungry and won't have breakfast there again sadly. Great service lovley place just very tiny portions.

The windmill has a beautifully renovated barn that can be used for functions and we have used twice over the past 2 years for family events. Josh and the team are incredibly hospitable and went above our expectations in accommodating our needs. There is also a beautiful garden attached to the barn that we used and it felt lovely to have a private space outside, as well as inside for our events. The food is of high standard and very affordable. We have used the cafe on several occasions and always enjoy our visit. With the development of the shops, b&bs and outside spaces, this is a picturesque and peaceful place to spend the afternoon for any occasion.

Beautiful location on a warm sunny day let down by oh so disappointing food and dreadful coffee and cake. Such a shame as this could be so good but it's let down by poor staffing and even poorer quality food. A very sad and small jacket potato with some old salad leaves, flat white coffee that had no coffee taste at all and a very small dry chocolate shortbread that tasted mostly of cheap margarine. Feels like they are skimping on quality in all areas of food and drink service but it's doing them no favours at all. Will likely visit again but only possibly to but a can of drink and sit on the grass overhearing the complaints of fellow visitors.

We stop here annually on a trip to Peterborough and have for many years. Today was good but something not quite the same. Felt like it may be under new management. One girl was fine and on the ball the other was obviously learning and wasn't sure about how much English she understood as responses seemed to be either missing altogether or elicitin blank stares. However the food and cakes were lovely and there was absolutely nothing to complain about.

The Windmill cafe is a very pleasant refreshment spot on the outskirts of Wymondham, set as it is, in some captivating countryside. Be it in the tearoom, cafè beside, or weather permitting, outside at a table in the adjacent grassed area beside the Windmill. Dog friendly too, thankfully. From previous visits, I have found the coffee and accompanying “toothsome treats” invariably first class. This time, my sister and I made our orders in the tearoom, but were served in the Cafè. My breaded chicken breast with dressed side salad was tasty and well presented. Sister enjoyed a ham omelette with a side salad. Our coffees too, were as good as ever. Recommended.

Weddings can be stressful. You want guests to have a great time but organising things to be just right is a tough ask and let's not even talk about budgets. Don't worry though because The Windmill at Wymondham has you covered. Thankfully, for this wedding I was just a guest but you could still see the staff bending over backwards to remove stress and try and make it a great wedding. They succeeded as well. A new Oak Framed hall has been built for events which is a lovely space. Doors open into the private garden that is ideal for drinks and canapés. A bar was provided and food organised. Nothing was too much trouble. The site itself also has some unique treats - obviously the windmill that makes a great backdrop to any event, but also a woodland with a clearing. With hay bales, fairy lights, blankets and fire pits it was the most amazing place to go after the meal and really made the wedding magical. They close the tearoom and public area at 4pm so you have the place to yourself from late afternoon. Guests can even book the campsite (accepts caravans as well). Perfect. If you want a unique wedding venue then you won't go wrong by choosing this magical wedding venue.

The cakes are really good and the food in general is well presented and tasty. The back room is the only room set aside as dog-friendly which is confusing because the dog friendly badge is on the door of the other room. The restoration of the mill to enable the owners to grind their own wheat to make flour will be a real triumph: making it the only working windmill in the county when the project is finished. Good luck to the owners. I do talks on leicestershire mills and am proud to promote the work they are planning here. Gluten free alternatives normally available.

Visited in the afternoon on Saturday while out for a days walking. First impression was that this place is grotty. It is in a beautiful location and could be great but it is not. There is a dirty brown carpet on the floor with ground in food and stains. The table we sat at was tacky and crummy and there were crumbs on both our chairs. My husband placed our order. Just a drink for us both and a cake for him. Was set down before us by a waitress who could not manage a smile or any chat. Thank goodness my coffee was cold so I could drink it quickly and leave. As predicted this was busy and as soon as arrived we were shown to our table, although it had been booked for 3 of us it was only set for 2. It’s a good thing a 6 year old doesn’t take up much space as we were very crowded on the table! The afternoon tea was really lovely - fresh sandwiches and great cakes. Service was fine and the whole complex is worth a look. The windmill can be climbed all the way to the top; there is a kids play area and some fab shops ( especially the vintage clothes). We will make a return visit.

Called in late afternoon for a quick cuppa and a lite bite. Girl behind the till was eating from a plate of something, perhaps leftovers. She soon disappeared and I was served by a very young lad who seemed preoccupied by the conversation coming from the kitchen area. I pleased my order and took a seat on the smallest table which wasn’t the closest to the counter. I soon realised that I would have to move as the music being played in the kitchen was very loud and the noise magnified by the staff almost having to shout to each other in competition with the music. When my food was served, there was no finess just dumped on the table. When I raised my head to thank the lad for bringing the food, he was already on his way back to rejoin conversations with his colleagues. While eating I was sat next to two older ladies. Both them and I heard foul language being used and inappropriate conversations in relation to putting things in vaginas!!!I work front of house and I can forgive the high spirited actions of many staff after a long shift. On this occasion, I felt that the average drink and food combined with the above issues warranted a poor review. Zero out of ten guys... Must try harder.

After 50 miles cycling into the teeth a strong wind, my son and I arrived at the Windmill for a well earned coffee. We were greeted by the bubbly personality of new member of staff, Mo. It makes a big difference when staff are welcoming, so keep it up, Mo. I fancied soup but, not being a lover of parsnips, the parsnip and pear soup didn't sound too good. I was disappointed, as it was more of a French Onion kind of day. But the need for soup was so great I took the plunge and - it was delicious! The boy had the traditional cyclist fare of cake. It as the Red Velvet and, judging by the way he tucked in it was good. It was a 70 mile day that felt more like 90, due to that wind, but our visit to the Windmill recharged our energy reserves, as always.

This is a nice setting and nice building that could be really good. The menu is OK, a bit limited but that is also good business sense for the location. It's a bit annoying when unruly children are sat upstairs and throwing objects to the floor below (due to the type of flooring this is possible) without the parent or staff being bothered. Not easy to deal with, the parent should not be ignorant (not the venue's fault) but the staff should take an interest.

Dreadful. Older waitress seriously rude, refused to give me a card receipt (against the law) and accused me (by yelling at me in front of a busy tea room) of allowing my fussy eating 3 year old to have a "picnic" when she was eating a cheese triangle. So does it not count that I then spent over £20 on food for 2 of us? We were asked about 5 times before we had even got our food if they could give the condiments to someone else. Does that even deserve a polite response?

I arrived just before midday to find that around thirty other cyclists, plus many other visitors, clearly had the same idea. Having read the reviews mentioning slow service I nearly turned round and left when I saw the long queue. However, I'm pleased I stuck with it. I was served within minutes, thanks to orders being prepared by staff other than the order taker. This clearly worked, as a waitress served my warm scone with clotted cream and jam, together with a large cappuccino in just over five minutes. The value for money is excellent, the location perfect and the staff friendly and efficient. I enthusiastically told my wife and made the mistake of mentioning the shops as well - I shall be taking her next week!

Visited here on a bank holiday Monday after receiving a voucher so I booked in for afternoon tea. The first warning signs were on the phone; one call was made to inquire about the voucher and had a very rude haughty response and the other was then to book the afternoon tea which I was told "we actually do high tea, not afternoon tea". Alarm bells began to ring. Arrived and instead of a warm welcome, it was blank stares, rushed off and returned with a follow me and left to sit wondering what was going on. Our food was brought out and it was a lovely spread, delicious sandwiches and treats. Lovely vintage cutlery. But again, no smiles or is everything ok, do you need anything? A lady behind us was brought food and had to ask for cutlery! The final straw was when I went up to pay; I asked if we could take home the cake we hadn't finished, expecting a waitress to come clear the table and bag/box them up. Instead I was given a couple of bags and another blank stare. We left with our table still full of empty plates. No goodbye, surprise surprise! Very disappointed.

Stopped on Sunday having cycled 37 miles to have a lovely light lunch. Upon visiting the toilets, I was aghast to find that there was no flushing facility and that the toilets were completely blocked with toilet paper and excrement! Next to the toilets, there were large bottles of water which I am assuming the customers/staff needed to use to fill cistern to flush but there was no corresponding sign upon entering the toilet. I questioned this with staff and asked for some tap water and was told in a really abrupt manner that there was a water leak and there was no running cold water. I was refused tap water and told I could purchase a bottle if needed. How can a café run with no running water? Isn't there a health & safety issue with the toilets not being functional? Why weren't appropriate notices put up for customers? Why do your staff need to be so rude?

The thought of waiting even longer for food (we intended to order) was such we made a quick exit and located a nearby establishment that provided a more welcoming attitude and obviously understood, and cared, about the concept of service. There is obviously a management problem - either it is not aware or doesn't care about service levels in which case it should shut it's doors - it would cause less offence. This establishment used to very good - perhaps it's generational change or badly managed growth

This is probably due to the good value food, but might also have something to do with the bike shop that's conveniently located in one of the windmill's out-buildings. Food was varied but fairly standard fare, without any foodie pretensions, but with plenty of flavour even so. It arrived fairly promptly, considering No2 son had ordered an all-day breakfast which had to be cooked from scratch. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the cakes that we followed up with. Coffee and tea were also good, as were the soft-drinks. We finished off with a trip up the windmill to see the view, and a quick look around the nice little shops alongside the bike place.

Called in here today for an informal lunch with family. There were 5 of us and between us we had egg, chips and beans, ham, egg, chips and peas, and liver and mashed potatoes. All the food was very good although the peas got substituted with beans, but not a problem and three of us shared a pot of tea, which was refilled with boiling water on request, much appreciated, thank you. All our plates were left clean and empty, we look forward to visiting again soon.

The windmill is a beautiful setting with the added attraction of quirky shops as well as a tearoom with excellent homemade soup, simple meals and fab cakes. The mill itself is open to explore although it is a shell only, the site has a stone mason, homemade furniture and gifts and a friendly dress agency. The children's play area keeps little ones busy while you enjoy a cuppa.A treat in a pretty village, well worth a visit. Quick warning though...it is very popular with cyclists so watch out for the lycra!!

Lovely simple meals. Well priced.Gorgeous setting. Ideal for everybody.Could ideally have a path to the entrance to the cafe and disabled toilet. Unfortunately there is deep gravel that you become immersed making it very difficult to get a wheelchair through.

We saw a sign for a windmill with a cup so drove up the lane where we found the windmill and a small collection of outlets. We visited the cafe and the tea and scones were fine. There was a comprehensive menu from scones and cakes to full cooked meals. We then browsed around the other outlets which ranged from nicknacks, second hand clothes, wooden items and a cycle showroom and repair shop. The windmill itself was open and it was interesting to see the old mechanism.Adjacent and part of the estate was a small caravan site.An interesting place to call at in if passing.

I have been here quite afew times with my 3 year old and he loves it, loves playing on the park, running around and going in what he calls the magic forest. So today we went again and me and my husband took a sandwich and a drink to have while he was playing as we didn't have enough cash to buy a meal from the tea rooms. But was going to get us ice creams so was going to spend some money there. To our horror a young girl from the tea rooms came over and told us we could not be here if we are eating our own food and drink. We were so shocked we left not the best news for our son who was having fun, asking why we was leaving when we had only just got there. I'm pregnant it's hot so going to have a drink with me. We then checked at the entrance for any signs, and in tiny writing it does say no picnics we didn't red the long sign as been there a lot. Thing that annoyed me the most is we have been time and time again and properly only afew times brought something from the tea room. All the people that must go and use the park and not buy anything if they turned everyone away. Wil not be setting foot back here ever will take our money somewhere else.

I have been to Wymondham windmill before, and decided to take some family for lunch this time. The site is very beautiful and scenic, and has a lot to offer as well as the quality food. It was very busy at the time, but staff were friendly and we where more than happy to wait a bit longer than usual. And it was certainly more than worth the wait, kids were more than entertained as well. Definitely will be returning, thank you Wymondham windmill.

Quirky place where up_cycling (pretentious for RE_cycling) has become an art form. Fantastic and huge slices of cake. Lovely helpful and friendly staff/owner. Haven't been at an appropriate time to sample their nmeals but they sound very appealing. Today they were offering a giant Yorkshire pud filled with slow cooked beef casserole. Great place for families with outside eating and a play area. We'll be back!

A great location and could be a regular place we would visit. The kids toys are upstairs in the cafe which has no lift and very steep stairs with no stair gates and spaces in the attic area for little ones to fall down. This is a real shame as some great toys to keep the little ones happy .

I came here yesterday with my sister and her children, we only stopped for refreshments but stayed for a couple of hours! There is plenty for the children to do, a play room upstairs and a park outside. The staff were wonderful, very polite and interacted with the children, I did get given the wrong drink but they were very apologetic and delt with it promptly. Another girl had a few issues about a man with his dog, he was very arrogant and rude towards her as she tried to find a place for them to sit, but she stayed calm and took the situation outside thankfully as he was muttering a few words not suitable for little ones ears! Other than that it was a wonderful stay and the atmosphere was welcoming and homely. The only let down was a slight deley on food, I had had a toasted teacake but it took at least 15 minutes. Not like that's going to stop me coming back nonetheless.Definitely be recommended to friends and will stop by again if I am passing.

We have been times before and till this visit all was good. The Windmill cafe has extended its seating and this may have been why the kitchen was struggling. Our lunch took 45 minutes to arrive and the third meal an omelette didn't arrive at all.It had to be requested twice more before it arrived 5 minutes after the rest of us had eatenAnother table who had ordered chicken casserole were told after 20 minutes the kitchen had run out of it ,and the table to my other side after a 45 minute Wait for a baked potato had to send it back for being cold. They had also run out of baked potato's.I don't know what's going wrong but it needs sorting. Reputations are hard won and easily lost.

What a lovely place to visit. Not only can you pop in to the windmill (currently raising funds to restore parts of it) and find out a bit more about its history but there are also some lovely craft shops to entice you.We particularly loved Emily found a Thing, the recycling shop - although the whole place just echoed with a really lovely welcome from all shop owners. We had lunch in the cafe - I have to say it was fabulous. The food was good, the service was second to none and the price was, well good value.Fabulous play area for the kids, good food and fun finds for the adults - a particularly lovely couple of hours spent there. We did visit on a weekday so it was lovely and quiet not sure how busy it gets at weekends but would definitely visit again.Outdoor seating for when the weather permits, dogs welcomed, caravan park, cyclists welcomed - just a generally lovely, stylish set up.Thank Wymondham Windmill, we had a very memorable day with you. Looking forward to coming back when we are in the area again.

We happened upon this gem on a journey from Cheshire to Norfolk. It was a lovely place for our 5 year old to run around and stretch her legs halfway through a long drive. The staff were welcoming and there were plenty of toys inside and a large play area outside. We were so impressed that we decided to make a point of stopping here for lunch on our return journey. This time we had a lovely meal and a relaxing stop. When we returned home we realised that our little one had left her bag with her pocket money, sunglasses and a few other Items. I called the tearooms straight away and they kindly offered to post the bag back to us. We really were delighted at the service we have received. Would definitely recommend a visit if you are in the vicinity....just try and remember to take home all your belongings!

The windmill has no sails but all the rest of it is there and it is well worth looking inside. There are a variety of craft workshops and outside the area has been attractively landscaped and there is a large play area for young children with plenty of toys. The staff are very friendly and the food is well presented. It is all freshly cooked and the srevice is quick. The menu is good with a number of specials each day. A better choice for vegetarians would be good. /there were a number of caravans on the adjacent caravan/camp site that looked very good with lots to offer. I'm sure it would make a good base for a weekend away. The owners have worked hard on improving the place since my last visit. I must not leave it so long until I visit again.

My husband & I have just returned home from a truly lovely day out with our 2 year old son. The Windmill Tea Rooms is a great place for all of us. With the sun shining we had a great time eating the gorgeous cakes whilst our son played in their outdoor play area. I even managed to sneak a look around the on site shops & picked up a handbag (don't tell the hubby!)The staff couldn't have been more friendly & helpful, even making sure our little boy had whatever he wanted to eat (& a cheeky ice-cream). The owners themselves were also there & were happy to chat & tell us all about the history of the place.I have already recommend the windmill to my friends & will be there again next weekend. In short......... Beautiful place, beautiful surrounding, beautiful people.

Very disappointing. Tried a second visit after finding the cafe smelled of chip fat the first time. Waitress completely ignored us and upon eventually being served, the crockery, pot (smeared with marks) of tea, milk jug and packets of sugar were virtually thrown onto the table without so much as a word. Such a lost opportunity at an otherwise very pleasant site with interesting shops. A smile, a few words and pretty, clean crockery and utensils would have made all the difference.

Call me a leprechaun and get me a pot because ive found gold. What a pub! Every village pub has its uniquity but this one has knocked them out the park. Inside a stunning building is one of the friendliest places ive been to. The staff (Chloe in particular) were so welcoming they made mother Teresa look like Pol Pot. I have no doubt this pub has been around for 2 millenia, because if jesus was to have a ‘last supper’ it mustve been here. The chefs worked a miracle in that kitchen. If my girlfriend wasnt there to tell me off for bad manners i wouldve licked the plate clean. Every local to Waltham on the Wolds should feel privileged to have this at your doorstep. Bloody brilliant

I visited Stapleford Park with a family group - my wife, son and girlfriend and my father-in law and his wife. We wanted to celebrate my son’s girlfriend’s birthday with a special occasion visit because, being Australian, she relished the idea of doing something typically English. The venue itself is undoubtedly impressive, but the afternoon tea experience was very disappointing. On arrival there was no proper welcome from any member of staff engaged in afternoon tea service. We were shown to our table and given a briefing from a senior staff member. After this, the level of service was virtually non-existent. Nobody asked whether everything was OK, whether more or any different teas were required. Amazingly, for this type of event, only one type of tea per person was offered. The sandwiches were unappetising, and cakes decidedly unimpressive. My father-in-law who is 98 went to the bar to settle the bill, and it was only a few days later that he showed us he’d been charged 6 x £41, plus a service charge of £30. He wasn’t told about the service charge when paying. We were outraged at the underhand way this charge had been levied, and also the fact that there was no relationship between the charge and the poor service we had received. The service charge was later refunded following a phone call by my wife. There are obvious signs of weak management and poor staff training here. Avoid if you’re looking for a more rewarding experience.
