The Wilmington in Islington

We went for Sunday dinner, the members of the party who had the roast beef were disappointed finding it to be very chewy and quite difficult to eat, although it was nice tasting. Otherwise the other meals and vegetables were very nice tasting.

I went there for a Sunday roast. It was delicious and the staff was very friendly

The build out and ambience are lovely, warm and cozy. The tables are not too close together either. Our server, Teresa, was attentive, without being overbearing. It was Mother’s Day, and Mother’s received a homemade baggie of fudge. The food came out quickly but we were not rushed through our meal. We had the roast chicken and roast chicken, both moist and not overcooked. Would love to dine again. The bar is very cozy.

Nice pub, with a good selection of traditional dishes, including some vegan/vegetarian options. Service was basically absent at the dining tables, though, but they still went ahead and added a service charge to our bill, which I found distasteful.

Unbelievable roast dinner! Had the sharing platter Chateaubriand and was amazing.....

Ate at the restaurant. Service was very good, waitresses were polite and smiley. Ambience is lovely, there is ample space between tables and the decor is well-finished and typical of a traditional pub. We were let down by the food, which was a bit of a mix. The steak was good, and so was the onion soup. I found the burger very heavy, it sat on my stomach for hours afterwards. The sides (fries and salad) was incredibly salty, we left the salad untouched. Be aware the kitchen is slow, we ordered at 6 o’clock, food arrived at 6.40. Prices in keeping with the area. I would not go back for food, definitely would go back for drinks.

Had a late late lunch so it was quiet and starting to busy up on leaving. Fish and chips was excellent, the vegan pasta was a little dry and stodgy. Staff were delightful, very welcoming. Overall, lovely spot, will come back in the evening, it was looking cosy and twinkly on leaving.

The food was delicious . Good quality and beautifully cooked. Service was friendly and done well although allow time if you are going to the theatre. It gets busy .

We (group of 5 sometimes 6) have been many times before but this was the first time since the refurbishment. We arrived an hour early but they still managed to accommodate us. The food and service was amazing - glad to say it was up to their usual very high standard. We had a wonderful time - thank you!

I didn't dare book for 5.45pm, which I have never been able to make on time yet - I booked for 6, and in the end, got there at 5.40! Didn't matter, they had a table booked for me - and oh, what a relief to get in from the cold! Their menu is short - I ordered wine, and when she came with it, I had already decided to have steak. I couldn't see the Specials board from where I was - she checked what was on, and I chose the 8oz. An onglet, which I'd never had before.. comes with pepper sauce and chips. Well now, it's a while since I had a steak that arrived doused in sauce - I mean, she did describe the sauce as a "side"! Never mind, I wasn't too put out - some people would be. It was pre-cut, I hardly had to do anything but chew. And ooh, it was buttery melt-in-the-mouth tender! Yum - I was exceedingly well fed. The chips did come on the side - in a little pot - and were pre-salted. All very lovely - as I sighed when the waiter asked - I didn't have time for dessert.. but I know where to come for a good steak. And, I might add, good value too!

Service très décevant: ils se sont trompés de vin puis de plat. On a attendu une heure avant d'avoir le bon plat ... et nous n'avons pas été servis en même temps ! J'avais fini qu'il n'avait pas commencé. Et aucune réduction sur la note !

The ambiance and welcome was warm, after that everything fell apart..our server was lovely but disappeared for great lengths of time, our food was excruciatingly slow to arrive despite there only being 4 tables dining and bar not busy as it was only 6pm …the food when it arrived had clearly been sitting in kitchen a good while—the kitchen should have been able to find staff to send out food in the event plates were finished and not picked up by server... It was embarrassing and disappointing as this was a a special family outing ahead of going to a show at Sadlers Wells and we had specially booked the Wilmington ahead so as to make a nice evening for our family and not to rush. We had booked on the basis of strong reviews here. :-( our server at very end appeared (someone else had brought the (cold) food) and asked how all was and we said it was ok but all the dishes were cold and she just nodded…no indication of any reason why that was or that they should apologise…they gave us full bill at £175 incl a service charge..we paid this as were now a hurry to arrive to show in time and we will not return.

Service amazing! Starts was very good. Steak spot on, monkfish needed more love. Stick toffee pudding wasn’t a proper one, chef sent a Christmas pudding with caramel sauce. Not great! The cocktail were well made. I would go back, but wouldn’t order pudim 😅

Delicious Sunday lunch in a warm and atmospheric surroundings

Cosy but buzzy atmosphere and lovely bar and waiting staff. Went for a Xmas meal with friends and the menu was a bit limited in terms of choices - which isn’t a bad thing - but not a great deal for our tastes. Three of us had the onglet steak or rib eye steak special. Steaks all good and cooked to order. Everything was however “fine” but not outstanding. My butternut squash tartlet put me off I think - wasn’t excepting it to be served cold. Was disappointing. We still had a very enjoyable evening. A good bottle of red or two in good company.

Hi we had the duck for four on Saturday night and we found it super tasty and good value. I've been before but my friends had not and they loved it.

Sunday dinner was sensational! The Porchetta was melt in the mouth good.

I was very under whelmed and not worth the price we paid. We had roast dinners and to be fair the meat was great but the roast potatoes were average, one carrot, an oversized flaky Yorkshire slightly burnt and broccoli so hard we couldn’t cut it. The desserts were also strange - expected nice poached pears on a plate yes got a trifle dish with small chunks of pear on a chocolate mouse with large chunks of honeycomb - needed more finesse. Won’t go back or recommend. Was very busy but makes me wonder if people haven’t experienced a proper roast dinner elsewhere !

The table wasn’t ready and finally when we sat down the table was unstable and the top wobbled. As always the food was delicious. The cocktails - we had expresso martinis were not very good. Overall it was ok.

The staff were absolutely fabulous, it was very busy so at times the service was a little slow but nothing to complain about. My roast was tasty, I found the black forest pudding a little bit too sweet. Would definitely go back.

Booked table for 4pm on a Sunday and they had almost ran out of beef so members of party had to change order. Service friendly but really slow. Didn’t leave til almost 7pm as a result and only had snacks and mains but took 3 hours. Not for a quick in and out. Beef was tough and required a lot of sawing but those who got Turkey / Pork enjoyed. Potatoes were great.

Have to say the food was outstanding. Best Roast dinner we have had for a long time. Very generous portions , very well cooked …absolutely delicious. Highly recommended!

Really nice atmosphere. We were put in the dining area which, given how busy it was, was probably not a bad thing. Friendly staff, pretty good pub food, maybe a bit of an over-reliance on garlic, but I think that’s what chefs are taught now. Nice evening.

Lovely pub/ restaurant in an ultra-cool part of town. Excellent menu with a really good menu as well as seasonal specials, decent wine list and top quality cooking. A short walk from Farringdon station and highly recommended

We rang 70 mins before our Sunday Lunch booking to see if we could arrive an hour earlier and were welcomed to do so, which we did. On arrival the service was prompt, friendly and excellent. The food was delicious, 2 Sunday lunches, chicken and Veg and much later, a Treacle tart. However, the staff were under pressure, and towards the end of our meal, we had difficulty getting additional wine and the dessert menu was asked for twice. I felt one of the waitresses, although very good, was adept at avoiding eye contact and spent more time than necessary standing at the service hatch leaving the other member of waiting staff who was professionally observant, absorbing all the pressure. Overall an excellent meal, a very enjoyable occasion and we shall return.

We eat everytime we go to Sallers Wells as we love the good and friendly vibe. However on this visit, although the service and atmosphere was great, the food wasn't up to the usual standard. Also very disappointed you no longer offer a discount for pre/post theatre dining!!

Beautiful atmospheric London pub where great food is matched by great attentive staff. Even asked for a cocktail which wasn’t on the menu , which they supplied without hesitation. Highly recommend a lunch or dinner there any day of the week!

Went for Sunday roast. Portions good size and quality good. Service was really poor though and staff run off their feet. Would have ordered pudding but took way too long for them just to clear the table. Need more staff on a Sunday. Place was also very loud and dark.

The food was, as other reviewers have said, very good. We just had oddly slow/absent service given the pub wasn't at all busy (Saturday lunchtime). Our table was one chair short and we had to remind the staff member that they'd said they would bring one, then we waited so long to order that we thought maybe it wasn't table service (it is). Two meals came not as ordered so had to go back to the kitchen. Very good food! But not the experience other recent reviewers have had.

Spent a few hours Saturday deciding where to eat for Sunday Lunch found this Beautiful Pub in an amazing location tucked away. WOW is how we felt Brand Spanking Newly refurbished Traditional/Modernize Pub. Thankfully these Guys are Bringing back the English Pub. We Love a Traditional Roast dinner and thats exactly what your going to get. We originally booked for 2pm but the weather had been Smashing for October so we wanted to spend more time out in the sunshine. Called and rebooked for 5pm NP. Was seated straight away by Graham, recommended Wine had a small taster and discussed choice of Roast to have Pork Rolled Shoulder and Beef. We ordered side of Coli Cheese more Potatoes/ Root Veg we actually didn't want the dinner to End. The pub was full and had such a lovely homely feel to it, families young and old dinning. We felt extremely comfortable, well looked after by Graham and his super friendly team. You can see the head chef plating up Parsnip Puree with Yorkshire Puddings Puffing about the Joint. People was apserlootly gasping for there Roast dinner it all looked Sooo Gooood. Chairs were comfortable, and tables left enough room not to be sitting on top of the lap of the next persons conversation. We didn't have dessert, but saw it come out Sticky Toffee pud look very nice. We chose another glass of Red instead. (Toilets up Stairs/Seating area outside around the Pub) The whole Pub was spotlessly Clean. We Loved it so much Thanks for having Us we definitely will be back with Pudding next time.

It was a bit busy, and we had to wait for a while, but everything turned out well! initially ordered the beef roast, but it seemed too rare for my liking. The staff promptly replaced it with the chicken roast, which was absolutely delicious. We'll definitely make another reservation in the future.

The best Sunday roast in the Clerkenwell/ Farringdon area! Actually the best roast I’ve had in London. Staff are friendly and it’s a nice, chilled atmosphere.

Delicious food- first roast potatoes I’ve eaten on a roast in a year super crunchy! Was sad they had run out of cauliflower cheese but didn’t notice it as everything else was so yum! Also good portion size!

A beautiful dinner this evening, very different menu for a pub! From the butternut raviolis to the rabbit pie a delicious experience in the heart of Clerkenwell Thank-you Wilmington the experience was epic! Thank you team Wilmington and especially Graeme for making this such a memorable experience! I had the pleasure of meeting Bianca during my recent visit, and I must say she provided exceptional service. Her professionalism and friendliness made my experience truly enjoyable. Bianca even recommended The Hake for dinner, and it was a fantastic choice! I highly recommend the establishment, and I especially commend Bianca for her outstanding assistance. Five stars!

We have been dining at Wilmington for many years and always enjoyed the Sunday roast. However today was disappointing, chicken roast comprised of two tiny drumsticks and a very small piece of chicken thigh. We complained and sent 3 x untouched chicken dinners back - to be replaced by two beef and one pork. Pork roast was fine, but roast beef was tough and inedible. In all cases the Cavolo Nero was so tough it was also inedible. We were served by a very polite and efficient waitress and she did all she could to make things right. We asked to see the manager but manager did not come to our table and our waitress delivered a message from her. We were not charged for 2 out of 4 dinners and 2 out of 3 desserts. But overall, our usual lovely Sunday lunch get together with friends, was a very disappointing experience.

A quiet Monday lunch with an old friend, a friendly Scottish waitress looked after us and we both started with 3 beautifully cooked sardines with capers, chilli pepper and lemon. He had the hake which he loved, while I had the onglet steak with fries and watercress - it was beautifully cooked. We had a very nice glass of French white wine and then shared a delightfully tasty stewed plums with ice cream. All followed by a very good coffee. A very good lunch and a pleasant quiet catch-up with and old friend.
