Excellent value for money, breakfast was surprisingly good for the price. The onkly suggestion I would give is to remove "jumbo" from the teacake description. Staff were helpful and friendly and it was a very good experience overall 🙂

A lovely cafe in the country park. Only given the food a 4 star as we only had a biscuit. We did say the sandwiches and jacket potatoes looked good but didn't try so can't really comment. Dog friendly, clean even though you're allowed in with your walking boots on and friendly. We will definitely go back.

Came today with my family, haven’t been since I was a child myself and it was amazing. The cafe is an asset and absolutely fantastic. One thing I found that set them apart from other cafes was the selection of toys and books available for children who were in the cafe, this helped my 2 young boys sit really nicely at the table. The food is delicious, proper chips too!! Which gives them a 10/10 straight away. Reasonable prices and a lovely indoor and outdoor seating area.

Waited over 30 minutes for 2 chip butties. Clearly they forgot our order, but they said they had been busy, after chasing it twice. Funny how the people arriving after us got their orders in a timely fashion. It's best to admit a mistake rather than make up an excuse.

I had a cheese and onion toastie which was tasty, and a flat white. The staff was friendly and efficient, the prices reasonable. I just wish they had better kitchen extractors as the cafe smelled of old chip fat. Not a fan of our clothes smelling of dirty chip fat 😔

Sadly not great. Girl on counter couldn't smile and busy listening to ladies in background and I felt she wasn't listening. White extravaganza cake and lemon meringue both very dry. I had asked if any cream was available at point of ordering but it wasn't. Ordered a tea, two sugars. Asked for a black decaf with two sugars. Got a tea ok but coffee had milk and couldn't taste the sugar. I tried to drink it as it wasn't overly milky, but couldn't. Another young lady came to clear table and asked if there was a problem with coffee, told her order was messed up, she did offer another but we were leaving. A refund wasn't offered or the option to takeaway, she just shrugged. I seriously doubt it was decaf too, guess I'll know later!! While we were sat at least two other people took their drinks back as they weren't right. Girl on till obviously not listening. Shame as could be a good set up given the nice surroundings.

Amazing food and drink and a lovely walk too. Dog friendly with their own dog, Ollie: the friendliest cocker spaniel you will ever meet, and they even sell dog sausages. Not very expensive and everyone there is always lovely. We pop in for a drink weekly when we walk my dog and it's always an enjoyable visit! If you're thinking of walking in Portland Park or are just close by, I would definitely recommend dropping by here! Edit: This place was taken over by some new owners around a month ago. My review still stands (all besides Ollie has left now) and everything is still great.

First time at the café, had just watched the Peter Rabbit film at home and thought it would be a good place to eat. (Picked for the name of the cafe) The cafe is down a country lane and is a very picturesque drive (done slowly), there's a small but well looked after car park for the cafe itself, as well as disabled ramps to the cafe from the car park. The building is well presented and there's seating in and out. Inside it has a homely feel, with a games table, where games can be used in the cafe and books in one corner to read. The food is well cooked and in my opinion, at a quite high standard for the price of the food. As one of the other reviews mentions, it would have been nice to be able to put my own milk into my drink, but this wasn't a major issue. The staff were very polite and helpful. Everything was clean and tidy and staff were ensuring that tables were clean. It is a little hidden gem and I will certainly be visiting again, maybe even take the dogs (they allow dogs into the cafe)

The staff are so lovely and friendly, sometimes the order gets confused and the breakfast seems to have gone down hill. Solid yolk fried eggs and rubbery barely cooked bacon. But the sausages are delicious and the price is right, maybe it was an off day but I can’t help but think it would be more popular if more care was taken in preparing the food. The tables are very sticky too but other than that the cleanliness looks very good especially in the kitchen which is reassuring. Cakes and sweet treats are all delicious and they have a great range, I’d prefer to add milk and sugar to my own hot drinks though instead of having to send it back to the kitchen for more milk to be added. It has tons of potential but is a bit of a rough diamond at the minute.

Set in a lovely nature reserve but unfortunately the breakfast wasn't that great. Bacon cold and the mushrooms had a funny taste to them it would seem that they used the same cheap margarine they use on the toast to cook them. Ordered drinks with food and when the food came I asked about the drinks only to be told ive not ordered any and they've not taken for them even tho the wife heard me ask for them 20ft away. Pity really as it's got potential.

There is a lovely little walk through the woods from Kirkby centre back round to Victoria Road and this is the half way refreshment stop. I believe the place has changed ownership a few times and the quality of food and service has been mixed during those times. However my visit last week was my first under the current owners. The service was friendly and they had about 5 or 6 staff on which seemed a lot but i'm not complaining if they can afford it because it makes for a quicker and hopefully better service. We only had drinks on this occasion but they were served efficiently and all tasted as they should. There were a few people in having breakfasts which looked good but i'm not sure on the quality of products given I didn't eat any. If they are using good quality local meats then they should promote the fact because I wouldn't fancy eating value sausages for instance. I'll certainly be back and hope that the current owners can keep up high standards of service and quality food.

Went here today for an open Mic - so we could sing some songs. Location was beautiful, out in the middle of no where. Down a windy road and there it was. It needs bigger signposts though as only the locals seem to know where it was - maybe they want it this way. We had baked potato and chip cob. All I can say it was hot and tasty. The staff were very chatty and made you feel at ease. There is pinic tables outside should you wish to eat your own and enjoy the scenery but the cafe has a lovely choice of panninis, coffee and cakes = not to be missed
