Oh My God! Food was amazing! I wish I had taken pictures before we scoffed it all down! The chef specials were specials alright!! The fish pie was outstanding!!! Don't forget to start with their sharing nachos!! Selecting £10-£20 but more closer to 20. You are paying for the good quality of the fresh homemade food. If I'm ever in the area I am coming again!!

What a fantastic pub for a drink or a meal. Friendly staff, beautiful out look sat in the beer garden.. food is gorgeous. If you've never been you really need to try it, you won't be disappointed

Attended to photograph a wedding. It was my first time there, but I had a wonderful day. Good size and well styled Marquee. Would like a few more featured spots for photos. Luckily, we gained access to the field for fair sunset. Would recommend if you are after this type of venue. Some garden games are a must!!

Was told about this place by a friend and it did not disappoint. Ate too much and was spoilt for choice . Katie and Charlotte gave great service , super friendly and had a giggle . Defo be back with eyes less bigger than our belly .

One of the best Sunday roast in the area, very well presented and really tasty.. Selection of meats and a vegetarian option.. Just had ribeye pork steak with creamy mustard sauce with mash... The pork and sauce were beautiful... Excellent place..

We visited this pub/restaurant while we were away on holiday. Wow, what a fantastic place. Very friendly and welcoming staff, fantastic food that was freshly cooked, excellent presentation and nothing was to much trouble. We would highly recommend the Royal Oak to anyone, and wish we had somewhere like that back in our home town of Swinton in Lancashire.

We had a very enjoyable meal at this great pub last night. The young lady who served us was really friendly and helpful. There was a great menu and a specials board. We all ordered something different and everyone thought their meal was super. Sadly, we didn't have room for dessert! We will certainly visit again when we next come to visit family. Thank you

By far the best pub Sunday dinner in the whole of the East Midlands would recommend the sides of cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets if you can handle it as the dinners are huge 😀

Wanted a pub lunch just off the M1 and Trip Advisor sent us their way. About 5-10 minutes off and we got fuel too. The bill for 4 was £54 which was really reasonable. Top hits were the Fish finger sandwich which has mushy peas inside the bun, Feta cheese and pepper roll and chicken goujons on a basket (very retro). Also had the burger in a basket which whilst fine would have benefited from a bit of salad and sauce. Staff all super friendly. Dogs are allowed in the bar.

Fabulous food, can't do enough for you x Delicious buffet prepared for my hubby's 50th birthday celebrations. Cobs, sarnies, roasties, cheese board, steak bake sausage rolls, veggie samosa, pizza, crisps, pork pie, garlic bread.

The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and courteous.

Quiet Sunday lunch with family; food was superb, the menu is restricted, but who doesn't want a roast on a Sunday, hence they focus on quality, and achieve it. Atmosphere only 4 stars as we were late diners and thus very few in the restaurant, so not their fault, just being honest. March '24, much more atmosphere on Mother's day lunch. Staff just the right level of attentive and very professional.

One of the best pubs I've visited and a fantastic pint of cask ale.

We don't live locally but met friends here as a hallway point for Sunday lunch. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The service was good and the food was delicious.

This was a booking I made, based on the word of mouth from locals. I therefore had high expectations. On entering , the layout was great - bar right , restaurant left. The dining area was inviting and relaxed, service friendly, and efficient. We ordered prawn cocktail, pork belly bites for starters, sea trout special, and lasagne for mains with cornflake tart and sticky toffee pudding for desert. Food was outstanding quality, served hot, and we weren't waiting too long between courses. A great experience, we will be back. Thank you once again. I didn't score maximum stars for service for one good reason,.. to avoid staff/ service complacency. We can always do better. Sorry for being harsh on that score.

Very good food at this pub. Food is easily a notch above what you'd normally get in a village pub. Restaurant quality and not at silly prices either. Staff were lovely and the place has clearly had a lot of money spent on it. I wouldn't hesitate to come back for another visit.

Super impressed. I had a mixed grill & every piece of meat was perfectly cooked. The cheesy garlic bread was the best I've had. I'm so glad this pub is so close to home.

This place is a hidden gem. The food is amazing, the portion sizes are amazing, and every member of staff is so polite and inviting. I am a vegan and am more than happy with the vegan selections. Beautiful, beautiful place

Laura and faith behind the bar was so welcoming shown us to our table so we could order our meal every meal was bang on I had rogan josh as I like Indian food I want to see if it was better than some Indian restaurants I have been to and I can say it beat them all Stacey the chef gave me the best I have ever tasted the Nan bread was so fresh top marks all thanks for a great family meal will definitely be back thanks again

Had an amazing roast dinner, best we have had in a long time! Don’t normally leave reviews, but not sure about previous comment, staff were more than accommodating and happy to ensure things were spot on.

Menu said triple cooked chips they were undercooked and soggy, husband got a meal he didn't order waitress said oh well its only a fiver more than what you ordered, def won't be going back again

Have been several times before always been lovely tonight chips pale and soggy def not triple cooked husband ordered surf and turf a mixed grill turned up when told that's not what we ordered waitress said well its only a fiver more . Not the point he didn't want mixed grill and left most of it , really not happy and won't be going again

We tend to visit on Friday evenings as an end of week treat and the food and service never ever disappoints. There is always a delicious selection of specials to choose from which keeps the already fab menu really varied. The service is always friendly and welcoming and it’s lovely to have a chit chat with the staff. I would highly recommend a visit to the Royal Oak for any occasion. We have been for dinner, lunch, bottomless brunch! TheRoyal Oak was even our chosen venue for a family funeral recently and it did not let us down. 10/10 for the Royal Oak.

Last minute decision to go out for lunch and searched for somewhere new and close to home. This looked good and we weren’t disappointed. The food was very tasty and the staff were super friendly. We’ll be back for sure.

We visit the Royal Oak every couple of weeks and have never had a bad meal. There is a Specials board as well as a main menu, fish and chips (2 for £20 on fridays) are very hard to beat, and the pies are to die for. Friendly attentive staff and some good beers. Only down side is limited parking but this is being addressed. Well worth a visit.

Me and my partner went for an impromptu evening out. Although we were nearing the end of the food service, we were looked after very well. We both had steaks which were perfectly cooked and reasonably priced considering the size and cut, the chips were also amazing. We were also tempted by desserts where we had the crumble and fondant, both of which were very tasty. We will definitely be back again soon and highly recommend to anyone looking for a lovely meal out.

I came in for a couple of drinks and a takeaway (too tired and lazy to cook) I had the Steak sandwich and chips. Whilst the bread had been changed it didn’t take anything away from the meal. I found the new thinner (I believe) cob a welcome change as it was lighter. The cob in itself was excellent and packed with flavour. The double cooked chips as ever were excellent too. I cannot recommend this place highly enough for its food, I’ve never been disappointed.

Always a special occasion going to the Royal Oak. Food is made on-site and specials are altered accordingly depending on seasonality of produce. Great atmosphere and always made to feel welcome. Would absolutely recommend!

Two great meals, washed down by a decent pint or 3 of beer. Lovely beer garden it's a whole field in size, quirky furniture within the pub in a nice way giving the pub a tasteful look. Friendly staff and owners. Highly recommend. I don't do reviews, but this pub deserves a positive review!

How many times have you been out and about and stumbled across a place and said " I wish we lived closer to here etc"?. For my wife and I the Royal Oak has turned out to be just such an establishment pretty well on our doorstep. It's been here for some time under the current owners yet we first visited towards the end of last year on a friends recommendation and have become form " converts" and regulars since then. The pub itself has a small bar area with a real fire on one side and a larger dining area to the other though you can eat in either and it is immaculately clean. We have eaten a wide variety of items from the menu from club sandwiches. All day breakfast, pies, steaks, FRESH Fish and yesterday a Sunday lunch. I can honestly say that everything we have eaten has been faultless with produce of great quality freshly prepared and well presented with generously sized servings. For myself it has the added benefit of serving well kept real ale including Doombar and Elsie Mo (if you know, you know 😊). The staff are so very friendly and obliging and probably due to the time of day we tend to visit it's invariably two young ladies Faith and Laura who provide outstanding service. It's not the cheapest pub around but in my opinion for the quality of the food, surroundings and service provided it is excellent value for money and is proof that you really do get what you pay for.

Visited the Royal Oak with a family group, and everyone enjoyed a very nice Sunday lunch. I am looking forward to visiting again to try the weekday menu.

My wife and I were celebrating this evening and following excellent reviews on Tripadvisor, went to The Royal Oak. As well as this , we had been there years ago for dinner and remembering that it was fine, I was happy to book a table. Unless we are in the mood for a bottle of wine we always order bitter shandy when visiting a pub etc. My wife likes it and one pint of bitter shandy is my limit if I am driving.This was when the evening got off to a bad start😟 When the drinks arrived they looked good and had a full creamy head on them. As soon as I tasted mine I knew that it was bitter and not shandy. I took it straight back to the bar but the waitress/barmaid denied that it was pure bitter and indicated the lower part of the glass where the beer looked lighter. This was because the glass is smaller diameter at this point! I explained that it had to be shandy as I was driving. My wife only likes shandy and only drank a tenth of her half. I had to leave half of my pint due to my driving rule. Temperature outside was 6 degrees centigrade and the pub was cold. Our table was against a radiator which was cold and my wife felt cold and had to keep her coat on throughout which rather detracted from any feeling of special occasion. Older people feel the cold more, but I was fortunate in having a good jumper on.! My wife ordered Chicken Kiev with chips and salad. Chicken Kiev , which we have often had in restaurants and cooked at home , has a cavity in the chicken breast packed with garlic butter. When you cut the chicken , a delicious garlic butter runs free! For the first time in our lives this did not happen with The Royal Oak Kiev?😟 The chips looked fine and were properly cooked with a crispy outside and softer inside but we guessed that the potato variety was not a good chip variety as the inside was bland , floury , and tasteless. The salad was finely chopped lettuce , peppers and red onion. Tomatoes are in short supply as we know! I ordered Steak and Ale pie with mash and mushy peas. The steak pie square was made with good quality beef and was of a good portion size and had a fair quality taste. The gravy was O.K. The three tablespoons of mash was strange to me and I feared that it was reconstituted potato , ( a la Smash?). The problems with the meal were therefore several and varied so when asked when paying the bill “was everything alright” it would have been too confrontational and assertive to have to explain comprehensively and put the cap on a ruined celebration evening. Regrettably, the 10% cash gratuity that I usually present remained in my pocket.. On the bill is listed “ 1 x half bitter, 1 x half bitter, Lemonade Small “. This means that my wife was served half a bitter and not shandy. The customer is not always wrong! This was really saddening and I can not contemplate another visit to The Royal Oak. I regret taking my wife out this evening.😟 Coincidentally , we lunched at The Royal Oak in Ockbrook eleven days ago and it was lovely!😊
