Lovely pub. Didn't eat so can't comment on the good. Real good atmosphere, friendly bar staff

I had my retirement lunch here the food was amazing way beyond what I expected. The service was good the atmosphere was relaxed we felt welcome and not at all rushed.

It was nice for the most part. Atmosphere felt nice. We were a big group and wanted to pay separately on ordering and it all arrive together, rather than on tab, and this seemed to annoy the bar staff unfortunately. Our group were just never going to be able to get together and order all at the same time and splitting the bill would have been tricky. The onion bahji tasted strongly of curry powder and unfortunately it overpowered everything else. I unfortunately did not enjoy it. On the plus side they served Cazcabel tequila and that I do like very much. I’m sorry for the lower stars than I would have liked but it really wasn’t great for me.

Food was very nice, we ordered from the “Large Plate Menu”, yes the plate was large but the portion of food was very tiny, looks like a starter rather than a main. We went there in Dec 2023 and the portions were very good that’s why we decided to go again! But we were disappointed when the waitress served our food. We left the pub still hungry unlike the first time we were there. We have to reconsider going again.

Me and my partner are on holiday in Newquay and we caught the the train to Truro and on the way back to the train station we popped in to The wig and Pen and we had a lovely lunch. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

Having recently moved to Truro we’ve tried out a few local restaurants and pubs with mixed success. We decided to try the Wig & Pen and we would certainly return. Great food, good service, friendly staff, lovely ambience (helped by a great music playlist!). Highly recommended.

Impromptu visit on an early sat evening - never visited before as not local but what a delight. Great friendly service from young guy on the bar and also the really helpful waitress. Not huge menu but the food was amazing - beautifully presented but most importantly delicious. Yes it is a busy pub so don’t expect a pin drop quiet environment- personally I’d much rather the bit of atmosphere

The food was really nice, the brisket and risotto was very delicious and was a good portion. Very nice atmosphere and amazing service. My only complaint would be that some other dishes such as the gnocci had quite a small portion whereas other such as the salmon chowder was quite generous.

Very dissapointing. We made a reservation for 20:30. Arrived 5mins before, was told someone would be with us in a minute, stood atound waiting until eventually managed to get someones attention to seat us. After ordering it took over an hour to receive the food!! We asked why and apparently the burger had to be redone as it wasnt up to standards. Its was a burger and fish and chips , how does it take 1 hour to prep. Absolutely unacceptable. Thankfully the head waitress was very appolagetic and took the food off the bill. Food not worth the wait.

Very much a mixed bag. We hadn't been out at all over Christmas/new year and we were tempted to try the Wig and Pen by the photos on their IG feed and excellent reviews. The evening was spoiled by a hugely noisy large table, who were shrieking at the top of their voices and playing stuff on their phones with the speakers on at top volume. The pub is a lovely setting and very welcoming and cosy with an open fire. I found the menu limited and seemingly nothing like the menu posted on the website or the photos on their IG feed. Eggs featured heavily (does anyone actually look at the menu as a whole and see whether one or two ingredients are being repeated in several dishes?) and both main course specials were heavy-looking meat dishes. We shared a crab rarebit to start, which was absolutely delicious. The main courses weren't so successful. I ended up having what was billed as 'burnt ends baked beans' - I didn't find a single burnt end, so it was basically a spoonful of rather dry beans on a piece of toast. My husband had chowder, which was served with a knife and fork (always ideal for soup). I suggested he asked for a spoon, but by the time he'd eaten most of the solid bits, he said it was so overly-rich he couldn't have eaten the creamy soup anyway. The wine was delicious and fairly reasonably priced. The staff were lovely and the service very attentive. It might just be a bit of post-festive-season exhaustion going on, so we'll give it another try in a few weeks when normality has settled in a bit more. We ended up leaving only an hour after we arrived because we were fed up with the noisemakers, who were only getting louder and louder as the evening went on and we literally couldn't hold a conversation with each other. I'm pretty sure we were not the only ones getting fed up with it.

Nice looking pub, but definitely style over substance! Undercooked food, that server didn't offer to replace. Expensive, small portions. One loud, foul-mouthed customer spoiled the atmosphere. Won't be back.

Absolutely in love with this place and the staff! Have been coming here as a child and it’s had a redo! Lovely open fire, great atmosphere and very welcoming staff always happy to help with anything! Very attentive and lovely! Food was 10/10 and the best ham egg and chips I’ve had and dad was very impressed with the size of the chicken wings and quality and only £8 for them! Cant remember the staff name but so lovely! And compliments to the chefs! Will be our usual spot for our dad and daughter meal! Thanks guys for a lovely time and lovely memory added to our books! 🤍🤍

The ginger barman with glasses laughed at my Slovoj Zizek reference and is extremely based. Please promote him so he can collectivise the workforce.

Staff were friendly and on the whole attentive. We weren't rushed to eat. The foodmixed bag although there was fish and chips and burgers in amongst it was quality food resturant standard. Absolutely beautiful presented and tasted devine. The big draw back was we were sat in a pub, where it was very noisy surrounded by people drinking rather than eating and then the dogs and owners came in, the old english sheepdog was stinking. Luckily we had just finished eating. But another couple hadn't and the smell must have affected their experience. Paying top dollar for good food isn't a problem, but sat amongst dogs and drinkers severely lowers the experience. Felt sorry for the chefs who had done a brilliant job. Please open the resturant below the pub so we can enjoy your food in better surroundings

Very impressed. A complete change in vibe and quality compared to previous visits many years ago. The food was amazing, it sits in that middle to premium price bracket but was totally worth the prices. Staff were lovely and accommodating. Honestly don't think I could fault the place at all. Venue is fairly small so I would suggest booking ahead if you are a larger group just to be sure not to be disappointed. Would come again and will be spreading nothing but good things about this gem in Truro.

Went with friends who were local and what a lovely place to go. Service was outstanding and the fish was perfect. Sticky toffee pudding was to die 4. I certainly recommend this for drinks and food. Staff 5*

Booked this based on the menu for our works Christmas Do. We had an amazing time, we did have a large group so was hard seating us all together, but the team tried to accommodate and change the seating whilst we were there, unfortunately we were all unable to sit at the same table but this did not affect us at all. The food was lovely, due to being gluten free this did not change the menu option for me. It was filling and I would definitely come back even if it was for lunch. Our waiter Sam was outstanding, he went above and beyond and made this an even better experience. Thank you team you did a brilliant job.

On initial glance this looked like a quiet corner pub in Truro! Staff were attentive without being too pushy but their food was the star. We had starters of scallops on black pudding plus local gin cured salmon which was superb! We weren't that hungry afterwards but the battered haddock, mushy peas & triple cooked chips were simply a treat. Good selection of local brews plus a well balanced wine list all of which made for a great afternoon. Need to find more pubs like this around Cornwall & Devon

Just had the roast here on Sunday which was absolutely fantastic. The beef was perfect and the pork crackling was the best ever!

We booked our office Christmas meal here based on the look of the Festive menu, sounded different to the normal hum drum of a standard turkey dinner. From the booking process to the meal, we couldn't have been more pleased. A lovely pub from the moment you walk in, everything has been well thought out. The staff were great, couldn't do enough for for us and made us feel very welcome. The food was AMAZING, plenty of ohhs and ahhs throughout the evening just on the presentation. I can confirm it tasted as good as it looked. Couldn't recommend enough, will definitely be going back soon.

This pub is excellent, really tastefully decorated, with a great selection of beers wines and spirits. The food menu reads well and indeed the food I saw being eaten looked delicious. We popped in for a warm having been around the Christmas markets a very welcome break.

Busy evening in Truro & we wanted something to eat. Booked easily on line a couple of hours before hand. The food was exquisite. The service was fantastic with the team being friendly & attentive without being overly so. Will be returning very soon.

3 of us had a lovely meal last Thursday. I had fish and chips, and the two others had the burgers. All three of us enjoyed our meals. It is very atmospheric; nice fire going and cosy. (Could do with a double door entry as we were sitting on the table next to the door and got a cold whoosh of air every time the door was opened - this is my only criticism though). Food prices very acceptable and the service was prompt and very friendly. It's gone to the top of our list for town centre eating, and we shall certainly be going back. Thank you.

The venison dish on the menu is outstanding, I highly recommend. Well balanced with seasonal accompaniments that complemented the beautifully cooked venison perfectly. An accomplished piece of cookery.

We booked a table for 18 for our pre-wedding meal. The children sat separately from the adults but were served and treated as if they were the adults! The food was great as always, cocktails and wine also fab. Everyone had a great time, we are so appreciative to have been catered for so well whilst being a large group.

This pub has a great reputation, and rightly so. The staff are friendly, it has a good range of drinks and it is classy inside. The atmosphere was great for a quick drink on Sunday afternoon. There's enough seating inside and plenty outside too for those that want it.

Had a wonderful dinner here. We ordered the steak tartare, steak and egg, and truffle parmesan chips. Everything was delicious. Service was friendly. And the ambience was great. The pub looks so beautiful inside with stone walls and classic interior.

Loved the food, very tasty and lived up to my expectations. Visited on a Wednesday in August for a friends birthday it was very quite which was a shame because that always has an affect on the atmosphere. Service was mixed two men working one tried his hardest to avoid customers but the other made up for his shortfalls

Had a wonderful lunch for two at this pub. The seafood Keralan curry was truly excellent - best dish I've enjoyed in a pub in a very long time. Wonderful flavours with plenty of seafood. Food was amazing! As a fussy vegetarian I was delighted with my choice of courgette cannelloni with whipped goats cheese mousse. The presentation was superb and it tasted delicious. Staff were excellent! My partner had fish and chips which were also very good!

Have been here twice recently for Sunday roast. It's one of the best roasts we've had... Those filled yorkshire puddings are inspired! Dog-friendly inside too. Definitely recommended.

We chose to eat here for a late lunch. Sadly we chose the wrong item from the small dish menu. The cannelloni dish had no pasta and the garlic bread was minuscule squares. The food was tasty but sadly bore little resemblance to the menu description. The waitress was dismissive when we mentioned the lack of pasta.

Very nice location if you are in Truro looking for a good cuisine and tasty food. This pub is a perfect restaurant for your evening. Meals are well executed and elaborated, a real pleasure. Do not hesitate to try the small plates and starters, they are amazing and tasty. It was a pleasure to discover and eat at the wig and pen, congratulations to the chef and the team ! If we come back to Truro, for sure we will come again.

Used to be a good pub with great staff. The beer was still good Proper Job, the staff still good, but the food was very minimalist (still hungry after eating) and very expensive . So now unreasonable.

Love coming to this place, very cozy. Good service and nice wines. But, stop using so much salt in the food, it is almost inedible sometimes. Really, the amount of salt used is ridiculous, it leaves your lips burning.
