What a hidden gem Stayed there last night, as it was convenient for access to the Connexion concert hall But we are so so glad we chose there instead of the big commercial hotels around Was greeted by Dave, big grin happy to please, took us to our room which happened to be the apartment (Photos do not give it justice) great views over the marina, lots of little complimentary touches Bar and restaurant opened at 5:00pm, that’s where we met Gill, again warm welcoming and very friendly Both had surf and turf, lovely freshly cooked and excellent value Would we stay there again - definitely in a heart beat Thank you gang for a great stay

We’ve been to this pub a few times. The food is all very nice with homemade items also which is great to see. They also have lots of vegan options. Staff are very friendly and it’s also a dog friendly pub, with our poodle getting her free doggie sausage today. We will be back

The Whittington and Cat is a very welcoming traditional Pub with excellent meals and accommodation The Sunday Lunches are great value for money and the regular menu has something for everyone served by very friendly staff.

The welcome and food are always top class, doesn’t matter if you come in a group or on your own, you always feel welcome. The food is absolutely fantastic. I visit whenever I’m in Hull, this is always my favourite place to eat. Lovely atmosphere, such a fantastic hidden gem.

We went in after not having been in since the 90s (not for any particular reason, it just hadn't been on our radar for a very long time). SOOOO glad we did. Friendly staff, reasonably priced drinks and brilliant food. My friend eats meat, but I'm vegan. There wasn't just a vegan choice...there were loads of vegan choices! Vegan pie, kiev, burger, ch*cken burger, mushroom stroganoff and sausage and mash as well as vegan desserts. I had the half pound vegan cheezeburger which was really lovely. Highly recommend and can't wait to go back.

We’ve travelled all over the uk and by far this is one of the best places we have stayed The room was beautiful, clean and spacious and fantastic value for money we are looking forward to trying the food as we have heard such good things about it It is basically on the marina and what a pleasant walk amenities are close by as well The hosts we great down to earth and very helpful Can’t recommend this place enough, it will even draw me back up to make a return visit from my home in south wales

We were staying just up the road and read good things about the food so thought we'd give it a go. So glad we did! Great atmosphere food was great with big portions! Prices were half the going rate in nearby restaurants, but to be honest I'd pay more for the quality and portion sizes. The staff were great and a decent selection of drinks at good prices too. Will definitely call again if we're in the area!

Fantastic welcome, staff are brilliant - bit of a hidden Gem this one - food is amazing and well priced - highly recommend the homemade steak and ale pie - out of this world.

Well I visited with my wife and stepdaughter and as usual, was warmly greeted. This is a fabulous place to dine and has rooms above too. The bar is in the middle and splits the ground floor into two halves, one more pub like and the other more restaurant like. As usually the food was fantastic and plentiful, couldn't move after my steak and ale pie which was stuffed full of steak. Fantastic food and so reasonably priced. Cosy, warm and good value food, definitely one of my favourite places to eat.

Warm welcoming, lovely rooms and suites. The food is really good pub food and there are a great bunch of staff and regulars in the bar. I'd recommend to anyone for a drink, lunch or dinner or a stay in a part of Hull that includes some other great bars, cafes and restaurants.

A brilliant pub a short walk from the city centre. It may look unimposing from outside but is really nice and cosy inside. There is two seating sides with the bar in-between them, a nice gas fire and secluded seatind one side and a more open general pub layout the other side. The staff and landlady were very nice and friendly and the food we had was extremely good and plentiful for the price. They had a nice ale on tap and good selection of all other drinks. As it happens, several of my work colleagues have visited, stating they had both a great experience and food. As soon as lock-down is finished my family will revisit a lot more. A real gem.

We've always wanted to visit The Whittington & Cat as it's owned by the same lady who owns The Railway Inn at New Ellerby - our favourite spot to eat out. Well as I expected The Whittington & Cat is most definitely on a par with The Railway. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience from start to finish, a great home cooked menu served by the attentive and pleasant landlady, her son & daughter who delivered great customer service. We can't wait to come back and see you again.

Stayed 2 nights Lovely B&B ran by a family who couldn’t do enough for you I’d booked a double and was upgraded on arrival to The Apartment on the top floor. The hotel and bar is kept spotlessly clean although they didn’t do breakfast I didn’t eat in but was informed by regulars meals were very good, I can guarantee all beers and drinks were spot on. Parking is free on the doorstep in Kingston retail park which has cctv the hotel forwards your car reg details. It’s handily placed for shopping restaurants in old town and marina. I can definitely recommend it and will definitely stay again in the future.

Went yesterday with family for a birthday lunch. It’s about 5th time we’ve eaten here in the last year. Jill and here team are so friendly and accommodating. Food is home cooked and very tasty. Drinks are cheap and service great. Great experience and brilliant value for money. Looking forward to going back. I took my dad her for a meal before a gig and now he goes regularly with my mother. They love it too.

Went here for drinks with some friends. It's a small establishment, but keeps a decent amount of beer on tap, and the staff are just the friendliest bunch you'll ever come across. The food is nothing special but if you're in for a long drinking session, it's alright.

Excellent, food, service and great banter with the chef and staff. Good selection of beers and all great value for money.

Visited here today after my partner seeing it on Facebook we both had the steak and ale pie and chips the pie was gorgeous the chips are proper chips, staff really friendly.

Went for a family meal last week and we all really enjoyed it. The staff were friendly and service was very good. The food was fantastic, me and my uncle ordered the steak and ale pie, and although it was only £7 or £8 the pie was full of the meat.It was the first time we had eaten there in a long time, and we will definitely be back!!

Love it here, pop by whenever we can. Really good pub with friendly staff and really nice food for bargain prices. Can’t fault the place!

My wife and I went here for a drink, what a friendly place,the people in there made us welcome locals were playing guitars, harmonica's and some quoting poems. The proprietor bought out sandwiches and being strangers told us to help ourselves. We were booked in at the holiday Inn but would certainly of preferred to stay at the Whittington without hesitation. Planing to go back again. Thank you for making us welcome.

Sunday lunch - OMG just finished eating Sunday lunch here. £7.95 and struggled to manage it all. The meats were amazing and proper homemade gravy. Gorgeous.Last night we were here for a function the buffet was fantastic, the atmosphere brilliant and the staff amazing. This has GOT to be one of Hull's true hidden gems.

A nice bar and not as quirky as it name sounds. A handy bar for the Holiday Inn Hotel. Not busy but an OK place.

Great little pub just off the Marina. The food is so cheap but really good quality, with a good selection - probably the best value food in town. Bar staff and landlady are really friendly and welcoming. Usually has a fair few people in and a warm friendly atmosphere. Decent beer selection and a pint isn’t overly expensive.

My partner and I visited Hull as I’d wanted to come back after enjoying the city & visiting The Deep last year. We stayed at this pub as it was close to all the amenities and as we’d be eating out in the evening, it seemed a good place to stay. The room was very modern, lots of glass mirrors and furniture with glass ( chest, dresser ) chaise longes. A large room, decked out to a flamboyant style... wow! We were warmly welcomed by the hosts Steve and his wife, and although there was no parking, the shopping precinct car park just behind the pub was conveniently placed for the duration. No breakfast included, but still a nice pub, even though our room was at the front facing the busy road!

Ate here once before and the chef reckoned his Sunday Lunch was the best in the town. Clearly then we had to give it a try.

Being a Hull lass I Can't believe September 2017 was my first ever visit to this lovely pub i didn't realise what id been missing! If you haven't been go!!! We Just popped for a quick half the first time & the gent behind the bar - Tommy was lovely, very chatty, friendly & knowledgeable. We felt so welcome & couldn’t wait to visit more often as we were due anytime to move in our new house around the corner.

Last visited this pub couple of years ago and the food was great, we went back for tea and everyone of us left our meals it was terrible. It's such a shame as it's a good location and with a bit of tlc could be a cracking pub. Need to get new chef and new decor and it would be really good. We won't be going back in a hurry.. sorry

I had the curry which hit the spot my friend had the fish and chips local fish really enjoyed it deafly recommend it and will be back so thanks again. Gill look after us as she always does very friendly

Ate here last night Sat 24th Feb, had a steak which was cooked to perfection and the chef made a homemade mushroom,garlic, peppercorn sauce that was delicious. Hubby had sausage and mash - huge and tasty. Will defo eat here again asap.

Went here tonight 23/11/17 for a meal with my friend before we went to town shopping. Great little pub, with a great atmosphere. The landlady was lovely, and very welcoming. The steak was the best steak I’ve ever had, cooked to perfection.

Getting to be my 'local' as only 2mins walk ( on Marina) . 2 rooms . Great hosts whoevers on the bar . Very clean and up to date with original features of the old pub. Serves a decent pint in decent glasses . ( none of your fosters or smiths ) . Local bottles of ale and beers . Wines and coffee . Serves food and is a b& b too so you don't even have to call a cab if you've had a few !!!! But if you do need a cab , it's nearly town centre so not a problem . Knocked star off because I've not had the food or b and b experience but everything else is excellent . TV sport , quiz nights , and sing along Sat afternoons now . Takes cards and contactless .

I had a night in the Whittington and Cat paid for by my girlfriend. When we arrived the landlady showed us to the most beautiful room up a staircase. We had mirrored dressing tables and wardrobes with a fantastic four poster bed. The large bathroom was clean and bright. We ate in the pub and had a good steak.

One night stop as a solo traveller. Clean, quiet, convenient for town centre & good value. Easy to find & free parking on site. Friendly staff.

Yo estaba en Kingston Upon Hull para un festival y muchas de las sesiones de canto fuimos en este hotel. Había reservado la tarde y no me había dado cuenta de que este también era un hotel, de lo contrario habría reservado aquí (después de la experiencia en el lugar no en el I ASÍ ojalá hubiera tenido más tiempo para lugares para alojarse! ! ).

Ya bajo la nueva dirección, el pub ha sido genial. Asiduos es amable y el ambiente muy crea un sentido de comunidad perdido largo en pubs de los días modernos. Impecablemente limpio y la comida es excelente, el personal es en colores naturales y son una celebración de barman muriendo raza que saben sacar un buen pinta!

El interior es completamente diferente a lo que sugiere el exterior. Es de estilo contemporáneo, luminoso y ventilado.

Me encanta la comida de los domingos.

Our first visit my husband and myself were told to give the Sunday lunch a try by friends of ours, so glad we did I had the beef my husband had the lamb food was very hot and fresh beef and lamb lovely and tender, service very good ,very friendly and welcoming too, I would recommend anyone to give it a try. Will definitely go again.

La Marea en Hull y dejó este hotel victoriano tardío entre un coche colgado Retail Park y una autovía, pero no dejes que eso te desanime. Por otro lado, en vista del viejo muelle de trenes, ahora un atractivo puerto deportivo y el parque del Holiday Inn. Está a poca distancia del centro de Hull y un generoso puñado de restaurantes y cafés, una vez que se ha negociado que venga en autovía: Hull City Council, han hecho mucho para los peatones que sin duda saben cómo cruzar luces inteligentemente? Teníamos una efusiva bienvenida y tomó el apartamento, la mitad superior de la segunda planta (sin ascensor). Este comprende una amplia sala de estar y cocina/comedor, un dormitorio doble de buen tamaño y un cuarto de baño muy pequeño (su tamaño claramente constreñida por la ventana, chimenea de mama y servicios). La red, decoración blanca y negra es peculiar (me encontré pensando que me estaba esperando en la peluquería), pero estaba bien equipada, cálido, cómodo y limpio. La iluminación tiende hacia el techo y duros, así que la introducción de algunas lámparas de mesa más y sutileza puede ser bienvenido. Pero pasamos dos días muy satisfechos allí y me pareció un buen centro de exploración perfecta relación calidad-precio para la Ciudad de la cultura.

Both my self and my wife had decided to take my father out for Sunday dinner and ended up at Whittington and cat. The service was excellent We found the staff very friendly the food that was delivered to our table was lovely and we will certainly be arranging another visit.

My mum and I popped in for tea last night and both was very impressed. Both had 2 courses and they were very tasty and fantastic value. We was served by Gill and her smiley friendly service made our evening even better!Will be back!

Ten out of Ten fantastic venue very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The food was great and the music was not over powering. Thank you to all for making this a very special and remember able evening. Ps being local I will pop in again for my Sunday dinner smile.

22 adults spent yet another great annual weekend in Hull. We were staying at the holiday inn next door and was pleased to find the nearest pub open. What a stroke of luck! We were all warmly greeted by Jill. What an absolute star and fortunately typical of the warm and friendly people we always meet in Hull, year on year. We all had food. It's not a huge menu, but it was piping hot, tasty and reasonably priced. We came back as a group later at night and on the Sunday. When Sunday lunch was being served it looked and smelt delicious. Thank you Jill you really helped make our weekend enjoyable. We look forward to next year and staying in your accommodation after you kindly showed us the rooms. After shopping we wanted some quick food, so popped inThe food was very good value for money. A sirloin for less than £9! I wasn't expecting much, but got far better than expected. We will be visiting again. Bare in mind that this is a pub, but is well maintained and delivers beyond initial impressions. Service was very good.

This is a a gem of a place, we arrived early but they went out of their way to book us in to a spare room prior to my daughters graduation, rooms themselves were large and decorated with individual care made me question again why I choose large chains. Lets hope Hull being the City of Culture next year will boost this lovely marina area with its bars and restaurants Throughout our stay the staff were delightful. I was worried about noise from Clive Sullivan Way but double glazing blocked most of it. Parking isn't a problem nor is their staff willingness to help you!

Brilliant staff, brilliant service and fantastic food. The room were in first rate condition and over all we could not fault the Hotel, it was also located very close to shopping, ice rink and the city centre and a stroll along the Marina was lovely.

Even though this pub ran out of beer (Morrisey was playing at the Arena) the staff were so chilled, polite and took the time and trouble to explain to everyone how this situation had come about. The clientele were a very mixed bunch all in good humour. Traditional in style, with a pleasant outdoor area, looking forward to returning soon.

Me and my partner stayed here the night before my birthday as we had travelled from Derby. I booked it on booking.com. As it was my birthday my partner contacted the owner who very kindly arranged a few surprises for me for when I got to the room (flowers and red wine). We stayed in the 1 bed apartment which was absolutely delightful. It didn't have a cooker or hob but it did have a microwave and fridge. Luckily I like microwave meals which we got from M&S as a treat. The room was very comfortable and was also clean. I cannot thank the owner lydia enough. The pub wasn't open when we stayed which I am a little gutted about. I'll be completely honest there were a couple of negative things I could mention but I'm easily pleased (and not petty) so I'll not mention them. Would I recommend this hotel. In a heart beat :-) thanx again

near to the city center this pub is a mediocre pub which offers food and B&B at reasonable prices. a relaxing pub which is clean and tidy but at the end of the day just a nice little pub

A good traditional pub serving old. A great beef pie. Nice and warm in the winter as fire on. Also a decent bottle of champagne too although they only keep a couple of bottles in as it's not often called for.

Was passing by late Sunday afternoon and found staff friendly and accommodating. Food plain but tasty and sufficient. Wouldn't go out of way to call in again but certainly wouldn't avoid it.

Pub Food only just been re-openedService The service was great they ensured we got the meal how we would like it. However my first choice was not available. Nor was sunday dinner but they had a few things left so catered to another. Food It was average quality for the others as it was not a specialized meal. I enjoyed my curry very much with the mango chutney poppadum and naan half chips half rice. The cheesecake and cake seemed to be oven warmed

This is a nice little pub. The staff was great and I really enjoyed my fish and chips. We went here because it was near the hotel and we had been travel for over 24 hours and just wanted a quick meal. We both enjoyed the meal and the staff was very attentive knowing we were very tired.

I don't know whether it was me or was it just a bad day at the 'office', I can except the lack of variety of lagers they had to offer and that the place was virtually empty for the whole time that my mother & myself were there, but it took ages to get a beer served as it took 3 (three) attempts to change the barrel, thus incurring a massive wait. The food was very poor and overpriced, £8.99 for a rump steak & chips, both were, which over cooked, with the steak practically cremated. I don't think I've ever left a place eating a pub lunch, yet still felt starving. The bar staff/manager, seemed to spend a hell of a lot of time on the phone.I was hoping to have a very good experience there so I could stay there for when I do the Hull 10km next year (2014), but on this experience, I will definitely pursuing alternative options!

I have never stayed at Whittington and Cat as a B&B but my dad and I often pop in for a drink and some food, which is absolutely great value for money. The food is home made, comforting and huge portions! Last time I went, I got the surf and turf which consisted of a perfectly cooked medium rare steak, scampi and filo prawns, with proper onion rings, homecooked chips (which were gorgeous) peas and a salad, for about £7 or £8! Being greedy i then also ordered a piece of the Dime Cheesecake which was fab, they even served it with a bit of icecream AND squirty cream.Lovely little pub with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. A definite recommendation from me and my dad!

Spent a few hours here on a Thursday evening. Barmaid was really nice and we enjoyed ourselves. A lack of real ales but you can't have everything. Toilets were clean. Nice outdoor space. Right next to the marina

For a pub lunch you can't get much better...and the price is brilliant! So so cheap yet presented with a mountain of food that is delicious. The fish n chips are superb here. I love coming with my family for lunches when I'm home. Mum, Dad, Gran, Grandad, Sister and more often than not one of my little nieces. Keep it up. Good Hull folk run it and are so lovely. Can't wait to visit home again!

Great venue this. It is close enough to the town centre to be central but far enough away to be quiet. They have some lovely rooms which are clean, spacious and very reasonbly priced. But the best thing about this pub is the food and drink. Eaten here on numerous occasions and never had a bad meal, always excellent. Great choice of drinks and good prices too. The staff make sure you leave smiling as well.

My fiancee and I went for a meal, nothing was too much trouble and the meals were absolutely gorgeous, we asked to see the rooms and the bar lady showed is round, she was so helpful and really friendly, we didn't stay there but arw definately going to in the future.

Friday 2nd November we decided to have lunch at this establishment we arrived at 14.15. Unfortunately our colleagues train was late so she did not arrive until 14.30. The chef told us that meals stopped at 14.00, we saw no signs stating this however she was very polite and offered us alternatives. We bought a drink and was chatting having a catchup and was deciding wether we stayed or went elsewhere for a wider menu. A lady with long blond hair came across to our table (I presume the red Mercedes in the car park was hers) and said I believe the chef has spoke to you about the meals we are closing soon so have you made a decision, it was only 14.45 at this point we had only been in the place half an hour. We told her we would leave. Our friend went to the bathroom before leaving, as we stood outside waiting for her the lady appeared at the door as Jenny came out she slammed the door behind her, how rude. The same people own several establishments in the area I would not recommend them due to possible poor customer service which we recieved. They may have raving reviews on sights re.customer service. All I can say on that note is they either who you are, what you are, or your are not putting them out.
