The Whitehall Restaurant & Bar in Leeds

Amazing! Really not a bad word to say. Incredible service (not on top of us at all but always attentive). Amazing food (good portion size and taste was fantastic!). Decor and cleanliness also top tier. We had a lovely meal and would easily recommend to anyone. We went for Sunday lunch and all got different meats which were so tasty. Mum had the Veg option and loved it (she’s usually a little fussy). Really really well done to the whole team. Is a little on the pricey side but for this food and service it’s a bargain!

We wanted to celebrate our wedding reception at The Whitehall, because they offer the best roast dinner in Leeds. They were so accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. All the guests loved the sharing platters and all said how beautifully cooked everything was. The service was impeccable from all the staff, with nothing too much trouble without being overbearing. Being able to share our special day with loved ones, with amazing food and a perfect environment was everything we wanted. We can not thank them enough and also recommend them enough. See you all again very soon.

The Whitehall doesn’t look much from the outside with the building covered in scaffolding, but it was lovely inside once you’d found your way. Service was excellent throughout and we received a surprise anniversary bonus to finish off our meal. We shared crispy prawns as a starter. Large juicy prawns with no tail covered in a very crispy batter. I had trout for main course with tempura mussels and a creamy leek sauce. Beautiful fillet of fish which went perfectly with the sauce. My wife had a duo of chicken - 2 succulent breast pieces along with a mini chicken and mushroom pie. All very tasty. We mixed and matched our desserts - Chocolate delice and sticky toffee pudding. Both were rich and scrumptious. Total bill including bottle of wine, pint of Amstel and a liqueur coffee was £120. 10% service charge is added automatically.

Visited this restaurant many times. Usually for Sunday lunch which is absolutely superb. This week we visited mid week and sampled the Ala carte menu. We always go all out here and have a 3 course meal , as everything is so delicious. The staff are very friendly and give excellent service with a smile.

The food was good, tasted fresh. Fairly priced. Service was great, friendly staff. Unfortunately loosing a star as I just didn’t feel like it was clean, crumbs round the window ledge and murky glasses. The construction work outside isn’t ideal either for a romantic setting.

Being unfamiliar with Leeds, and having a couple of hours to spend before our afternoon train departed south, we went in search of the best Bloody Marys in the city within staggering distance of the station. Fortunately the guy who recommended the Whitehall Restaurant & Bar was also an experienced bartender, so we sought it out. The fact that it turned out to be bang opposite the hotel we had checked out from four hours earlier didn't dampen our spirits. We were offered BM's on a Vesuvial scale, spiced in a range between 0-10. My friend opted for a 3, I boldly suggested an 8 (accompanied by olives, hummus and flatbread and a tidal wave of H20). My follow-up No.6 grade Bloody Mary packed no less a punch in its seasoning. All beautifully served by the ever-attentive Hannah (no doubt checking that she wouldn't need to make a 111 call). We will certainly return for the full enchilada next time as the menu and dining room looked enticing. Very busy for midweek luncheon service, and rightly so. The fact that the Whitehall is independently run was the icing on the cake.

Decided to try The Whitehall after seeing reviews and the food on their Instagram. Visited on a Saturday night at 7pm - was quite noisy but a good atmosphere. Service was excellent. Tomato garlic bread was very disappointing- hard and not very warm - appeared that it had been cooked some time before it was served. Also tasteless. Crispy prawns and scallops were nice but nothing special. French Onion soup was nice but more bread/cheese would have been better. Main courses were all good. See further comments below re temperature of the food. Desserts came out amazingly quick (before the coffee) and the rice pudding had a skin on top of it. Having said that it was fairly tasty. One dessert came wrong and was replaced with the right one almost immediately which seemed odd but the large table next to us did also order desserts so we were thinking maybe just the wrong one was brought to us. Our main gripe is that nothing was hot - all food was lukewarm some with ‘hot spots’- we felt it had either been sat waiting or re-heated. It didn’t feel like freshly cooked food (apart from the steak) which was a shame as that is what we expected. Coffee was again lukewarm. Overall we felt if the food had been hotter and some parts of it tastier, it would have been more enjoyable Concensus is we would return but on a night when it was quieter to see if the food seems fresher then . A little disappointed tonight but the service was good and staff friendly and attentive

Absolutely lovely restaurant food and service the menu is great it has an open kitchen, the service we received was top class and the food was cooked perfect, for starters we got the muscles and scallops, we got the lamb to share which was amazing including the pot of gravy, cheese board and 2 espresso martinis, we will definitely be back, don’t miss this place if your visiting Leeds, we were only here for 2 nights Thank you all the team for a great dining experience

Went for Valentines night. A very busy night but the service and food were excellent. We had a sharing Beef Wellington, the best I have had anywhere. The dessert was delicious and fabulously presented. Will be back soon.

Every time I go I enjoy my food here - meaning food is excellent and so is the service. Hands down my fave restaurant in Leeds and will keep returning 👌.

Another fantastic meal and great service. The presentation of the food is second to none and the taste was great. Hubby had a fabulous steak and my halibut dish was sublime. Servers are attentive, quick to notice if you need another drink and all very friendly. Atmosphere was also great- has a great vibe.

Beautifully cooked food and such attentive service. I had the fish pie special (as did one of my friends) and thought it was superb. However my friend told the waiter that she was a bit disappointed as for the price it didn't have enough fish. I totally disagreed but the staff took her complaint very seriously and the manageress came out to apologise but explained that the chefs carefully weighed the designated portion of fish for each pie and it was highly unlikely that hers had less. This is a restaurant that takes its cooking very seriously and has extremely high standards. If I'm ever back in Leeds I'll definitely be back.

Nice and friendly welcome. Love the fact they have Heineken Zero on draught. Wife had a Rhubarb based Cocktail. Fantastic starters with a Cauliflower starter which was SO tasty. Went for a late lunch yesterday with ex colleagues. Was quiet but food & service more then made up for lack of ambience due to timing. We all did the set menu & my French onion soup starter & pork belly main certainly hit the spot on a cold Autumnal LEEDS day. The restaurant is currently wrapped due to scaffolding and no doubt presents a challenge but once inside all as normal. Great food & fab service at a reasonable price. We enjoyed a lovely pm catching up & this was a good choice & price for the quality of the food & the copious amount of wine we drank!
