Hotel was nice staff friendly and helpful, The room was ok if a little dated some of the bed lights were not working the tv reception was poor. Big clean double bed big bath and shower decent quality towels are provided. Breakfast not sure if they were short staffed no spare tables available to sit at had to ask for the only table to be set coffe available but has to order tea toast and cereal was help yourself But the table still wasn’t set. Two other couples who came in after us were served before us. It was just disjointed the breakfast when it can was hit and plenty full. Now then the tea issue I love my tea in the morning but twice I was told the milk wasn’t off I have never had tea with milk bits floating on the top that to me is unfressh milk but was told it’s because of the full fat milk. Now I’ve been a tea drinker since I was 4 and never had tea like it. But don’t let this put you off as I was a nice hotel if a lack of staff at times Thanks for a nice stay

A hidden gem that is for sure. Yes the rooms and parts of the hotel are maybe outdated but also full of character. I had a double room which was huge and comfortable. I had a 3 course meal in the restaurant for £25 as a resident; (£35 for non residents). I would quite happily have paid 3 or 4 times that as the food was as good as anything I have eaten anywhere. I would recommend the chicken and sausage pate as it is the best I have ever tasted. Service throughout my stay has been nothing short of excellent and a special shout out to Blake, who is a perfect host and ambassador for this fine establishment. Wish I lived nearer as I really was very impressed.

Whitehall has been a family venue for many many years! NYE, was my wedding day and I can honestly say from start to finish the organisation, staff helpfulness, staff commitment to everyone involved, the food was 10/10, the atmosphere and everything! Nothing was too much. I would always highly recommend this place anyway but after my wedding I recommend it even more!!! Thank you Neil and your team! XxxX

We have had to re-schedule our wedding now for the 4th time due to Covid.. But the whole team at the hotel have been nothing but totally flexible and supportive in helping us change our dates and making the process as stress free as possible. We fell in love with the place when we first saw it but with all the extra help and support they've given us we are so glad we picked The Whitehall Hotel for our special day.

So Saturday 11th July was the first time I’ve been out to anywhere that sells alcohol since the re opening of bars/hotels etc. Turned up to be welcomed by the manager who took my temperature etc then showed me to my seat, I was sat miles away from anyone so me and my friend was very happy and felt safe at this very anxious worrying time. The staff had PPE and kept their distance in-between serving us also, very friendly staff. Will be returning! 👌

We had our Xmas meal Here with our family and friends at great cost to us and unlike previous visits it was poor in every way.. The service was excellent however the food was terrible and kids portions were the same as the adults?? Their We're No roast potatoes and the veg was something processed and flat packed in a square format??? tasted weird and was unsure on what it was to be honest, this was just not what we expected and certainly not a traditional roast you would expect elsewhere for Fraction of the price!! It Wasn't particularly warm and wasn't like the ones we have had in the past from here. To sum our experience... it was expensive, cold and had better meals from a convenience meal from tesco to be fair. On this festive occasion was not up to scratch I'm afraid, so for this reason it deserves a review. Sorry if it sounds harsh but was not what we expect for the money we paid for and Will be thinking we're to go in future but it won't be here I'm afraid to tell you.

Visited today and service, staff and most importantly the afternoon tea was lovely. It was nice to have several types of sandwiches and not over faced by big lumps of cake. My only criticism was the coffee was very weak hence 4 stars. I believe you can ring the hotel directly to get the deal and I definitely will be!

My mother and I visited here for an afternoon tea, which did not disappoint. My mother and I combined go to a lot of afternoon teas and this occasion was up there with the best of them. First and foremost the service was excellent, staff were regular in and out of the tea room, but not overpowering. When we needed something, nothing was too much trouble and the staff remembered and took the time to check in regularly to check that we were enjoying the food and if we needed top ups, etc. The sandwiches were perfect, simple but very well executed. The scones were home-made as was the cream and the jam. 10/10. The top tier of small cakes probably do with a rethink, however we ate every single one of them so they cannot have been bad :) We will be visiting again, but with different people this time. See you all again soon! KH.

I’ve only ever stayed in 2 hotels in Darwen and the only reason I stayed in the first one is because I hadn’t found The Whitehall hotel yet! The staff are amazing and so friendly and always welcoming and accommodating! Breakfast is amazing... you can literally ask for anything you like, can’t ask for anything better that! Dinners are just as amazing, the menu changes frequently and provides a small but great variety of meals! During December, the menu had a Turkey dinner with all the trimmings and when I made a comment about Yorkshire puddings, even though they weren’t apart of ‘all the trimmings’ the chef made some for me!! 😍 Rooms are comfortable and spacious.... providing all the facilities that anyone would require! From speaking to others, I know The Whitehall has long standing customers of over 14 years! And that’s no surprise to me! Unfortunately, I only stay at the hotel for work so never get to explore as much as I would like but even if I was choosing a hotel for personal stays I would still choose The Whitehall. Great staff, great rooms and great food.... which obviously means a great hotel!

Yesterday our daughters wedding was held at this hotel. Firstly I would like to say my husband and I have stayed here before when visiting our daughter so were confident that the services would be perfect. The wedding day from start to finish was the most magical experience, Dave , Anita and their fantastic team looked after us (bridal party) from arrival on Saturday, for the wedding on Sunday until we departed today (Monday) at lunchtime. Food was delicious, plentiful, hot and served properly. Rooms were comfortable and housekeeping excellent. So thanks again Dave, Anita and your fabulous team. See you soon.

I recently attended a fork buffet (part of the Whitehall Hotel's funeral menu). The relative who booked the buffet contacted the guests after the buffet and ALL the guests said they had not enjoyed the food provided and the tea/coffee was lukewarm when they arrived (punctually). One guest was asked, by the relative who'd booked the buffet, to take home some left over sandwiches for her grandchildren which she did but, when she got home, she put the sandwiches in the bin. The scones, jam & cream and the fish goujons were OK but the sandwiches and potato wedges (dry and chewy and didn't look like potato wedges at all) were awful. I would not recommend Whitehall Hotel for a funeral buffet.

I booked afternoon tea for myself and my partner on a rare child free Saturday afternoon. On arrival the gentleman on reception was extremely polite and helpful and showed us to our table table. To say we were underwhelmed is an understatement. Admittedly we were probably one of the last bookings of the day (3:30pm) but I would still expect the same attention to detail as the first days booking. We were sat amongst uncleared tables, food strewn across the floor and some cleaning products left on other tables. Don’t get me wrong the food was extremely good, the service very attentive, it is simply the environment! Dirty, unhygienic and outdated! The chairs and other furniture have seen better days and are worn and splitting, the serving hatch to the kitchen was left open (even though not being used at all) showing a pile of pots/pans and an essence of disinfectant wafting through. Being honest I feel pretty let down and this isn’t what I’d expected at all. Even the entrance to the hotel was littered with old cigarette ends. My advice would be to travel to a different venue if possible, a total letdown.

Just attended a wedding here and have to say, it was the worst experience ever, I felt embarrassed for the happy couple. The place looks in need of renovating, rotten wooden skirting boards attempted to be hidden by the ‘net’ curtains. Couldn’t fault the staff they were lovely. However, people were suffering hypothermia in the function room as the ‘smokers’ were permitted to use the fire door to go outside to smoke, leaving the door permanently open on a perishingly cold night...not ideal. They have 2 bars in 2 different rooms, however if you wanted a draught beer you could only get it in the lounge bar and if you wanted a soft drink you then had to walk to the function room to purchase it, a brilliant concept it you are wearing a Fitbit. Finally, they are in need of bringing themselves up to date with technology, how many places do you go to now a days where you can pay for drinks on your card? Not here, cash only, which snookered several guests as they had spent quite a lot on taxi fares to get to the place in the expectancy that they would be able to pay for drinks on their card. I wouldn’t say avoid this place, I would say to the hotel these issues need to be addressed and then perhaps it would get a better rating.

If there were a 10 star rating this hotel would get my vote. Just returned from a wedding and from start to finish, the service was impeccable. Second to none. The restaurant manager had everything timed to absolute perfection. She even made sure the childrens meals were brought out first. Whilst keeping a check on her waitresses, who's politeness didn't go amiss. They are an asset to the venue. She also took time to make sure Liz & Alans guests were comfortable and in need of anything. She very kindly stepped in when we needed cabs booking. We were very kindly bought a voucher for afternoon tea for Christmas. We arrived to be greeted and invited to sit anywhere, the room was rather dim so we opted to sit by the window but to be told not to sit there. So we moved into the centre of the room (we were the only ones there for the duration)We had a glass of "fizz" and were then given the option of tea or coffee, my partner opted for coffee and was presented with a cup of coffee and told that the waiter would refill this when ever he wanted.A plate of cakes and sandwiches were presented to us, but in all honesty it wasnt worth starving ourselves all day for. The sandwiches were very bold flavours so wouldn't be everyone's choice. We waited and waited and waited for the waiter to return to top up the coffee. It was as though it was a chore for him to do so, and after cakes we had a similar problem.Luckily we both found the whole experience highly amusing else it would have really ruined a nice day out. Really could do with sending staff and chefs to Betty's to raise the game.

Absolutely terrible , booked 3 days in advance for lunch needed have bothered arrived on time no one else in the establishment! To us says a lot going with instinct we should have left , however we gave it the benefit of the doubt..2 minutes later 2 other people arrived . We sat nearby the window to savour the views bear in mind it’s still “winter” and unbelievably so inside as we sat in our overcoats as it was as much freezing inside as it was out ! The waitress came took our orders for drinks very pleasant girl , very efficient but from then on went further downhill after drinks were served she took our food orders my other half ordered the hake dish , myself just the fish & chip offer as no other meal appealed ..one hour later no sign of food ..no apologies for delay etc again we were contemplating asking for the bill for just the drinks ,by this time 3 other patrons had arrived ordered drinks & food which were delivered well before ours ! 1 hour & 5 minutes ours arrived ..the hake was served supposedly on “ crushed roast potatoes “ with buttered beans and creamy tomato sauce ..I wished at this point I had taken a photo all I can describe it it was a bowl of mush , I myself had the most greasy fish & chips I have ever encountered sadly we both left our meals I have to note not once did ant of the catering or bar staff asked if everything was ok , I think in my opinion they were too embarrassed to sum in all in a nut shell will not be returning .

We were on our way home from Preston and trying to think of a good chippy in Blackburn but sadly we realised all the good ones were no longer open. We came across Cherry Tree chippy but wondered if it would be ok as it’s a Chinese take away ( not that we’re averse to a Chinese) . We ordered steak pud ( Hollands) chips, large mushy peas and large gravy. Theirs plenty of chips for 2 in a portion of chips. It was absolutely delicious and hot even though we were several miles from home. Took a menu and we will certainly be back. Staff really pleasant and quick service.
