The White Swan Gressenhall in Breckland

We went here for the first time for my birthday lunch. The menu is small but it's definitely quality as opposed to quantity. There's a friendly atmosphere here and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We will return without a doubt.

Popped into this charming pub with lots of atmosphere we both had fish and chips which had a huge piece of fish. The meal was really enjoyed and staff were very pleasant. I would definitely return.

Popped in for a drink after a walk around gressenhall,really surprised how nice a pub it is,very friendly greeting on arrival and lovely ambience .Wanted a Guinness but not on tap so offered me a sample of an alternative which was good,partner had a lovely freshly brewed coffee. Food coming out looked very nice,very busy as it was mother's day but staff very calm and professional. Will be popping back but for a meal next time.

A community run pub providing an excellent choice of drinks and food. The atmosphere makes you feel at home and allows owners to bring their dogs along.

Stopped here on a whim and my partner and I were given a warm welcome. Food was delicious and produce of high quality. Excellent choice of beers on tap. We were seated in the function room which was well appointed and comfortably warm. Service was excellent throughout and nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

Excellent pub; great beer and superlative food. I had the sea bream and my partner had venison sausages. Followed by cheesecake (shared). We both agreed that these were among the best pub meals we have ever had. We are staying in the area for a week and this place is a great find.

My partner and I had an early valentine's day meal booked for the white swan, and we were not disappointed. Most of the food was absolutely brilliant, and I really appreciate the use of local ingredients and game meat used in the game terrine and venison sausages! My only complaint was that the broccoli and blue cheese soup was more like water than a soup, which was a shame. Dessert option were fantastic, and our cheesecake and crumble were out of this world We would love to return! 4/5****

Brilliant local community owned pub. Excellent food and great value. Easy to book a table online.

We wanted to get some lunch on a Saturday. However when arrived there was no parking apart from a very small amount of spaces outside the front. After hearing good reviews we were unable to park and try this place out. Needs to be made clear that there is hardly any spaces.

It's always a good sign when a pub is busy on a Wednesday lunchtime, and it's no wonder. The service was excellent, and the food, fish and chip and burger was equally good. Crisp batter, succulent fish, and apparently juicy burger. We enjoyed our meal so much, we have booked again for 2 weeks time. worth the travel. This pub deserves to succeed in an increasingly difficult market. Gressenhall, you are very lucky to have this on your doorstep.

Went with a family member, were quickly seated by a lovely member of staff, however i wouldnt say the atmosphere was that of a pub. We ordered starters which were more like a regular dish, very large portions. However they were very good, i couldnt complain, these were the crispy chilli beef starters. After this i had ordered the specialty burger they do, cant remember what it was called exactly and my company had ordered the hunters chicken, was a shame we couldn’t finish it all due to large portions but however was delicious. Was a but flabbergasted by the price at the end and wouldn’t say it was worth THAT much, however the experience was nice.

Visited here on our last day of our holiday and I’m so glad we didn’t miss it!!right from ringing and booking the table the young girl was so lovely! We all had Thai vegetable spring roll starter but so much I wanted to try, they were so tasty and nicely presented! Then went on and had the duck omg it was cooked to perfection so so tasty my husband had the burger! Which looked so nice he said it was the best!! My friends husband had venison sausages with mash and red cabbage then we finished with a marmalade bread and butter pudding and a ginger and eggnog cheesecake!! Sooo good the staff welcomed us and my two dogs! Such a warm country pub!! Definitely not to be missed!! So glad I got to visit

Wow, fantastic from the moment we arrived! Gorgeous Thai vegetable spring rolls for starter followed by duck with sautee potatoes and vegetables, then to finish off with ginger & eggnog cheesecake! Very welcoming staff and all round lovely pub!

Lovely building, it was decorated beautifully for Christmas. Parking is limited but we managed to find a spot up the road. The people behind the bar were welcoming and made an effort to put Christmas decorations on our table as we had the festive menu. We were let down by our food unfortunately. I had the Brie wedges for starter which were nice but very simple and i felt were no better than ones you could buy from the supermarket. My partner had the spiced cranberry chicken wings. The sauce was very sour and because of the amount of sauce he struggled to eat them because you couldn’t pick them up and cutting the meat off of the bone was difficult. For main we both had the turkey roast. Meat and pigs in blankets were lovely!! Veg was very hard.only just cooked and roast potatoes weren’t crispy. Could have had more gravy too, red cabbage was really nice though. We felt the food let this place down as service was good overall. There was a lady training and I felt she should have been shadowing as she wasn’t sure what to ask us and when asked if I wanted a starter and I’d given my order she was already walking away before my partner could order his. We would return to try the normal menu because that looked really lovely.

A beautiful community pub in the heart of the village. We visited on the 22 Dec, the service from the front of house and at our table was wonderful a real credit to the village. All our starters where great and all the mains where equally as good.

Not what I expected ! If it improves I might return one day ? Food was just not up to the standard I expected. Service was fine. Ambience ok. Needs some fresh air to clear the cooking smell.

Food is wonderful and caters for every taste, great selection of drinks and the staff are friendly and attentive. Would recommend booking especially at weekends.

My first impressions were positive. A quaint village pub out of the way - Wow ! Unfortunately on entering it the interior aroma smelt of stale cooking. The establishment lacked an adequate extractor fan to carry away the stink. The food came & was passed its sell by date by the off taste it gave to us diners. Though, it has lovely, friendly staff. This pub has potential with the right, professional management.

Group of 15 of us with 4 kids and a dog for Sunday roast. Got put in the function room which was a great private space. Great food and friendly service. Would highly recommend.

Fantastic place with Fantastic staff and food. Staff were very helpful, when I asked if they could puree one meal for my sister who has eating difficulties, which they done. No request was to much for them. Thank you, we will be back for the Christmas menu.

Warm welcome, attentive, polite staff and the food was amazing, A varied and interesting menu at sensible prices The portions were generous and the quality outstanding. It is a Community Pub and thanks to the Community for preserving this valuable asset If you're going there, check in advance that they have a table for you We'll be back

We came here for restaurant week as their menu looked very good, however the execution was absolutely terrible. The short rib was inedible, tough, dry, impossible to cut with a knife and even more impossible to chew - when questioned, we were informed that the chef said it was “supposed to be like that” which is insanity, the short rib was very clearly under braised, either the chef doesn’t have a clue about his own craft or doesn’t care about the food he puts out. My partner had the game stew which again sounded amazing, but I’ve never seen a stew that was just dry lumps of meat with no sauce or gravy, when asked for some gravy we were told that they have ran out (at 1pm). There was a lack of seasoning throughout courses. We didn’t stay for the desserts after such disappointing mains. Front of house team were very nice and apologetic.

Good, friendly service amd dog friendly but disappointed with quality of the food last time I ate there. I had the garlic butter chicken with new potatoes and onion rings. The chicken breast was so dry and over cooked as to be almost inedible. The price of £18 for a chicken breast a few oily new potatoes and 4 onion rings was way too much. Hopefully better next time.

Even though I appreciate there was a quiz, and we were in a separate area, we were seated with a very loud party, so a quiet relaxed evening was definitely not had, the saving grace was the waitress who looked after our separate room so thank you to her, we weren't neglected, the food was fine, very well priced

What a great find. We loved it in here. Food was top notch, the staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was great. Everything you could want.

Went for my birthday meal after seeing good things and good veggie options online. We had the mushrooms on toast and cauliflower popcorn for starters and the veggie burger for mains. Sadly it was all under seasoned and not well cooked. The burgers were over cooked and dry, I left most of mine. My mushrooms were in a cream sauce that was too sweet for the dish and badly under seasoned. The cauliflower popcorn was wet (?) and tasted like it had been cooked from frozen. I was so disappointed. The drinks selection was great and staff lovely, would return for drinks but I can’t recommend food based on this experience. I cried when I left because we never get time out from parenthood and it was my birthday, I was sad that it felt like a wasted evening. The venue itself is nice and I think it’s just been redecorated or it’s maintained to a great standard. Everything was clean. It’s not all bad of course! Thanks for our meal but we will be drinks only next time.

Excellent real ale with fast and friendly service

The food was excellent especially the chocolate brownie, best I have had, prices were very affordable, plenty of room no over crowding service was excellent. Will definitely go again.

Our experience at The White Swan will definitely be a talking point with friends and family. The food was beautifully presented, the portions generous and the chef is definitely doing something right as the meal was absolutely delicious. We’d like to give a special mention to Tilly who was just amazing as she done everything possible to make sure that we had a lovely evening. Nothing was too much trouble and her positive and friendly approach was truly refreshing. We will definitely be returning in the very near future.

We went here for lunch as we happened to be driving past. We were really impressed with The White Swan. The pub was busy with both drinkers and people having meals, the staff were attentive and friendly and the food was excellent. Would definitely go here again for dinner to try other things on the menu.

Family invited us over to this lovely community pub- and we were all impressed! Quaint characterful - yet modern, it was sympathetically renovated . The White Swan's been in Gressenhall for over 500 years but in 2019 to save its future as the last remaining pub in the village it was purchased by the community. Over 6000 hours of volunteer work has created a beautiful village pub. Food is fresh and local. We had a buffet of mini fish, chicken and bowls of chips: was very nice, not greasy, was hot, moist, crispy and tasty. Generous portions. Bowls olives and cheese yum! I've been informed there was a good range of beers, many regional. Orchard Pig cider on tap (not local!) was pleasantly bubbly- medium dry/sweet, 4.3% Suitable for vegans and gluten free. Lovely community pub supporting local community with friendly staff. Fab place we'd go again.

A true village asset. A good range of Norfolk ales and an interesting food menu - would highly recommend the beef brisket nachos as a sharing starter and for vegetarians the curry and burger were both very tasty indeed. 🍺

Superb village community pub. Beautiful from the outside, now an asset to the green with an interesting interior, clean and modern but still retains the character of a village pub. Food was superb (we all had Hunters Chicken with desserts). The service at lunchtime was fabulous - the lady at the bar made us feel like old friends and was attentive but not intrusive. We loved our visit here and hopefully will go again soon.

Busy for a Tuesday lunchtime with nearly every table occupied or booked when we arrived at 1230. Quick service at the Bar with excellent range of mainly local ales and imported lagers. Seated rapidly and given menu - fairly short with around 8 mains, and we ordered and were served swiftly, by charming, knowledgeable and efficient foh staff. Very tasty pork belly and burgers, with good portion sizes, clean and well presented. Highly recommended - 5 stars is not really enough!

A lovely and welcoming pub and a great place to eat. We went on Monday night, which was quiz night. It was lovely to see a pub packed with people enjoying themselves. As we were after food, we were seated in the Stable bar out the back. The food was excellent, I particularly recommend the Chilli Beef starter. Everything was beatifully cooked and presented. We had the steak and Burgers and finished with the cheese board. The service was perfect, friendly and helpful. It was never intrusive but the staff were always there when you needed them. Heartily Reccommend the White Swan

Thought we would try the local pub near our holiday let & are glad we did. The White Swan is excellent having been recently renovated to a high standard. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The menu is small in size, but will have something for most diners. The food was excellent, well presented and promptly delivered. The bar also has a selection of local ales. Can recommend this pub.

The food was lovely and reasonably priced for inflation Britain. The toilets were clean and smelled fresh. The only small downside was constant dive-bombing by flies, but this is Norfolk and summer, not their fault at all. I will definitely go again.

We were visiting from London for the weekend and had such a lovely lunch in the garden on Saturday we returned for a drink on Sunday afternoon! Very pleasant staff and the food was fantastic - highly recommend the fish & chips and the pork belly bites were delicious. The fact that the community come together to save the pub makes it even better!

Stopped off here for a drink and ended up staying for a meal impressed by the serving and waiting staff and of course the chef. Would recommend and hope to return

Lovely place,I've put 5* for service as it was attentive ,friendly and very polite but it was a bit slow but it is a community pub so it runs a bit different to a big corporation,saying that would we go back.. yes we would because when you walked on you felt at home with the atmosphere etc. Well done on a lovely welcoming local pub.
