Best pub in the area. Can't fault it. Try it for yourself, you won't be disappointed.

Went here, no pinot, flies on tables. Needs a re vamp, no atmosphere whatsoever, staff not very smartly dressed at all. Chef hadn't turned up so food was limited. Toilets not clean. Bar area carpet looked a mess, hadn't been hoovered. Tables sticky. Was going to eat there but wasn't a clean place. Wipe feet on way out!

Had a cracking roast dinner here today, couldn't fault it. Decent portions and plenty of vegetables and gravy. Lovely fruit crumble to follow. Will definitely be back.

My friend and I have been dying to try the roast in this lovely old historic pub - we had 1 roast beef and 1 chicken,it came with plenty of vegetables, a large pot of gravy and yorkshire pudding, we added cauliflower cheese too, which wasn't needed as so much already but it was delicious. The weather was dry and sunny so we ate outside. After we polished off our plates (the remaining meat was kindly packed up for our dogs in takeaway dishes) we left satisfied and took a slow walk around the village. A Sunday afternoon well spent! We're already looking forward to eating a hearty meal in front of the roaring fire in the colder months.

We have always driven past The Angel thinking it a little tired-looking from the outside. HOWEVER! Friends recommended that we try it, and now we go as often as we can. This isn't a chain, but a family-run pub cooking fresh, home-cooked food and (I am reliably informed) serving very decent ales. The Sunday roast with its choice of meats and cracking roast potatoes, is heavenly. Don't eat breakfast before you go, otherwise you will get full and miss out on their puds; the hot chocolate sponge being particularly noteworthy. Friday is fish and chips night and you have to book in advance as it is all freshly made to order. If you like lashings of tartare sauce, then their homemade tartare sauce will knock your socks off. The Angel is such a wonderful, old-school, local pub doing what pubs always used to do.

Had a lovely meal here yesterday. Food was proper home cooked fare, very reasonably priced (total bill £46.80 for 3 meals and 4 drinks) and the atmosphere, service and friendliness of both locals and staff make it somewhere I would definitely recommend.

Great no frills old style pub with a unique history. Friendly helpful staff, good beer selection and lots of space at the tables to spread out. Food is good wholesome fare. Well worth a look

This is the sort of traditional pub that needs to be supported. A lovely atmosphere, good food and drink at very reasonable prices. Excellent service and free WiFi. What is there not to like??? Highly recommend. 👍👍👍👍😊😊😊

Had lunch in this lovely traditional country pub after walking in the area. Lots to choose from the menu including main meals and light bites plus specials of the day, on Sundays there is also the option of a roast with a choice of meats. All the meals are reasonably priced and at the time of this review, desserts were only £4.50! such good value and I can highly recommend the Toffee Apple crumble! 😀 Be prepared to be patient after ordering your food as everything is cooked to order but absolutely worth the wait! 👍 We ate in the bar which was so cosy on a cold day with a real fire burning away but there is also a more formal dining room. The staff are really friendly and helpful and the service is excellent. The pub has a lovely atmosphere and well behaved dogs are allowed. There are lots of lovely walks in the area so you can work up an appetite beforehand. Check out the website for various events held at the pub including beer festivals!! Five of us plus a dog really enjoyed a relaxing lunch with good food and good company and will certainly return again.

Unpleasant Encounter with Poor Customer Service I recently had an unfortunate experience with an employee a lad with long hair it’s his service that left me deeply dissatisfied. From the moment I initiated contact, the representative spoke to me in a disrespectful and dismissive manner, making the entire interaction unpleasant. Despite attempting to address my concerns politely, I was met with rudeness and a lack of willingness to assist. It's disheartening when a company neglects the importance of treating customers with respect. This encounter has undoubtedly tarnished my perception of the pub/restraunt , and I hope they take steps to improve their customer service for others in the future.

Very traditional pub. Cosy and relaxed bar with a real fire. great choice of ales with some that are constantly changed. A small menu of well cooked and great value pub food available.

Based upon other reviews went to eat at the Angel. Welcomed by bar staff and locals, had good beer and excellent good inexpensive food. I had homemade chilli and my wife had the chicken curry both were very tasty. Not a large choice but good food does not have to be expensive! Would visit again.

Great pub for a good family meal that won’t break the bank. Pretentious? No. Haute Cuisine? No. Good food which won’t require an extension the mortgage? YES! 4 adults, one toddler - bottle of wine, three beers, kids drink, five mains and deserts - £100! Wonderful value.

Wonder Sunday dinner, Beef melted in your mouth plenty of veg . Oh don't forget pudding, toffee apple crumble & custard. Going again on Tuesday, cannot wait to see what's on the menu.

ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE food was out of this world, we came across this pub while on holiday, couldnt fault anything atmosphere was brilliant, the staff went out there way to look after us, would highly recemmend anyone coming here for a lovely sunday roast dinner.

Great country pub we stubbled upon, , the food was tradition pub fare but beautifully cooked with decent helpings, a good range of ales and the locals at the bar were good company.

Had excellent fish and chip supper and a good pint of Summer Lighting friendly staff and a welcoming fire as well.

Called in for the 2nd time early evening nice crowd of friendly locals good range of Ales Lagers cider and spirits keep up the good work

The Angel is a proper drinkers pub and traditional in ways that many establishments have lost over the years. There are always friendly staff and a good crowd of locals. The selection of beers is pretty good and although I have not eaten there yet it looks very popular especially Sunday lunchtimes.

OK so it's not got a 5 star restruant. The decor is not shiny and new, but this place has atmosphere,lots of it. It has what is missing from so many pubs nowadays. It is a proper English pub. The food is good. The staff are very friendly. It's not glitzy or expensive. But it's what Norfolk pubs used to be. A refreshing change.

Ordered the ham, egg & chips..not that nice to be honest..a lot of oil on the plate, not many chips..ham was okay but it's overpriced..there is definitely a group of regulars who give you the up and down but they did advise on the beers...the Darby further into the village has better food and presentation..we went there on another visit to the village.

Beautiful classic style pub, lovely staff. prepared a chicken burger sandwich at late asking was truly delicious. Nice pool room. not changed in over 20 yrs in a good way.

We enjoyed our visit to what is more of a pub with food than a restaurant led property. But the staff were efficient and pleasant and the food was fine - tasty and filling. What more do you want.

We were very pleased to Visit everyone yesterday (Saturday 23rd July 2022) All three of us had Lasagne with the Additions and agree it was Suberb. Well Done. Just had Sunday lunch in The Angel, Swanton Morley near Dereham. Staff and locals really friendly. We were a bit sceptical as there weren’t many people in the pub but the Sunday lunch was one of the best I have ever eaten in a pub. We had a choice of Beef, Lamb, Chicken or Pork. Each plate had 3 thick slices of meat and a good amount of crackling with the pork option. Vegetables were cooked to perfection. We had cabbage, carrots, cauliflower and broccoli and there was more than enough for the four of us. Excellent value for money. We ate in here during the week as well and again, the food was good value. This is atypical country pub. Don’t expect anything glitzy but the food, staff, locals and overall ambience of the pub more than outweighs the decor. We will definitely be going again.

They hosted my dad's wake, the landlady and her son gave wonderful service and did some lovely food for us.

Lovely friendly welcome and a homely feel. It’s a village pub and with that in mind customers should expect a village pub feel I think. The lady working behind the bar could not do enough for us and we really appreciated it. We sat outside but did go inside and the place was clean and well stocked. I don’t understand how people expect anything different from a small village pub. The food was good quality, freshly prepared and hot. The limited menu is just right for this type of place and I wouldn’t expect anything else. Leaving a negative review for such a small quaint little village pub is just down right rude. Honestly we couldn’t have asked for more. Even the other customers were friendly and welcoming. A little gem

I telephoned yesterday, and politely asked if they were doing food, and if they had a table free. I got a rant saying they are not a restaurant, and that they have tables inside and out just turn up! Suffice to say, I didn't bother.....

That hadn't my reservation for 6 were very rude. So I wiped my feet on the way out and found a great restaurant pub elsewhere. Never going there again. 1 star is generous.

Called in for a lunch. Menu very limited and if your were a vegeterian it was curry or nothing. Landlady was surly and cold . The cider was warm and tasteless. Tables felt dirty andthe whole place very scruffy. Not a welcoming place at all. Could not find anything positive to say about it. In my opinion best avoided

lovely liver, onions and mash - my gram would be pleased with that ! The cask ale is kept beautifully.

Traditional village pub, welcoming staff, range of real ales, lagers, cider and a pub food menu.

The Angel is in a small village called Swanton Morley just outside of Dereham, its postal address. A grade 2 building built by USA president Abraham Lincolns great, great, great grandson. Has the feel and looks of an old fashioned English pub but with Kent hops pinned to the ceiling. The food menu is basic but I like that. A choice of 40/50 dishes implies to me pre-prepared and frozen.The homemade pudding(not a pie as the landlady pointed out) was excellent. The value for money - good. Also one of the few Non chain pubs to serve food all day, we prefer to eat afternoon early evening not between 12 and 2 or after 6pm this gives us that choice. The pub has beer festivals and changing speciality beers as well as the "usual". The Angel has a restaurant section but we ate in the bar, so cannot comment on that.

Stopped here for lunch this week as the pub looked promising from the outside. The bar/seating area is actually to the rear of the building and in need of a good overhaul. Lots of space to park. There was a lovely log fire burning which was really pleasant but the lady serving was clearly looking forward to retiring and had lost her enthusiasm for the pub. (overheard her conversation) The menu was fairly basic with some specials on the board all featuring stilton cheese! We are not fans of cheese so we chose from the menu. The meals were satisfactory but that is about all. Husband's curry sauce was extremely runny and I don't think his dish looked appetising at all. The price was reasonable but I will not be returning here. Hopefully some new owners will take it on soon and give it a makeover it badly needs.

It is the pub next to where we live for our holiday. It only serves food until 19:00, but the food is lovely and the staff offers excellent service.

Had a Lovely home cooked Sunday lunch 25th February. Roast beef and all the trimmings followed by treacle sponge and custard. Lovely country pub. Good tasty home cooked food.

Having an appointment in Swanton Morley this week we found out that the Angel served food from 12.00 - 7.00 This was going to be ideal for us as we would not be free until after 2 o'clock. We were not disappointed. The food was excellent. The prices charged were very reasonable. Everything cooked to order. The atmosphere in the pub was exceptional, everybody talking to everybody. What a pity this sort of atmosphere does not appear to be in other pubs these days. It turned out to be a very good pub for food and company. We will definitely make an effort to go back.

This very friendly traditional pub couldnt have been any more welcoming to us. We were a party of 4 with a four legged friend. The atmosphere was one from 20 years ago with staff that actually listen, other customers who speak to you and a roaring open fire too, perfect after a long walk. We went back the next day and ate there, home cooked food which was just perfect. If we are ever in the area we would be sure to visit again

first impressions: it seemed like a beautiful pub, once we were inside however, the reception was anything but inviting. Felt very uncomfortable amongst the other customers and the staff, who all knew eachother and were very loud and unfriendly. It seemed that we were an inconvenience to all present and made feel that way. The food, once it eventually arrived was nice, if a bit basic - however it's no saving grace as the sheer intolerance shown towards us ruined the whole experience.

We were are party of six booked in to eat and unfortunately two of our party were very late arriving. Despite this being after the "official" food serving hours we were all looked after extremely well. The food was lovely, we had no complaints at all. A huge thank you for being so patient.

sunday lunch was faultless. choice of pork lamb beef or half chicken. came with 3 veg, and yummy home cooked roast spuds along with real Yorkshire puds plus stuffing balls. ALL home cooked. excellent value for money. sunday roast under £7. have thoroughly enjoyed Jo' chicken and leek/mushroom in open dish in the past and Sunday roasts the same. thoroughly enjoyable. thank you. :)

Great pub with great people that make you welcome. The beer is always fresh with a good turn over of pints keeping it that way. And look out for the interesting guest beers. Theres a Good selection of pub food to choose from and a huge open fire to keep you warm on them wet Norfolk days.

This is a fantastic local pub run by a really good landlord and landlady. The food is good honest home cooking with lovely specials and a menu that surpasses what you should expect. Have your favourite and get more than you can eat perfectly cooked.

Tan bueno para encontrar lo que yo llamo un verdadero pub con gente real otra vez. La comida es de excelente calidad y precio. Jos especiales caseros son sólo eso. . . especial. No es un comida de pub, pero un pub que sólo ofrece una comida. Los propietarios no tienen. nos acogió como una familia mejor y siempre hemos hecho un esfuerzo para incluir nuestra hija discapacitados en todo lo que hacen. Comentar. solo en lo que me parece. . distinciones un pub con gente estupenda
