Do not be put off the location of this place ( in the back of the Fairhaven hotel as they are very cleverly sharing space with the hotel) the staff are really lovely and attentive and the food is absolutely delicious. I had the chicken peralan and a friend had the vegetable biriyani which I had the rest of today. Freshly prepared food and really, really tasty. I would definately come back again or order takeaway.

Fabulous food. Appearance is a bit down at heel but that's not the focus - delicious Southern Indian cuisine. Dosas are great. Veg biryani was divine paired with the fish in banana leaf. Very sweet waiting staff. We're local so it's our weekend treat - been about 5 times now since we made the discovery last September and introduced our friends, who have done the same their own friends and family. Love that even if restaurant is full, if there is space in the bar you can order there.

My mother and I enjoyed lunch at this restaurant. The restaurant is set in the back room of a hotel and has a very retro feel which I found charming. The food was good. We received complimentary poppadoms. We were warned that the biryani would take 30 minutes so ordered a starter to share. The only slight disappointment was the mango lassi which was incredibly thick so difficult to drink through a straw. However the hostess/manageress was very friendly and welcoming as was the other male member of staff.

The food they served is very fresh and tasty. Ambiance is okay & a nice pleasant place to sit and enjoy the food. The only disappointment thing is the staff i don’t know whether the person who served me is manager or waitresses he was rude to us. We ordered the food and after 10 min we asked like “how long it’s gonna take”, he replied “we don’t have chocolate to serve immediately, you have to wait till it’s get ready” which is not acceptable totally the way he respond to the. Serving freshly made food is a good thing but you need to give polite and proper explanation y it’s take long to serve. Except that guy(The one who was with glasses took my order) everything is fine.

This is my first visit to the restaurant. I visited based on review. Ambience is poor. Food taste is really good but is it worth for money and quantity of food. I disagree. If food is excellent and if your charging high make sure people go out with full stomach. Quantity is average. Staff are really good and food wait time is too long but that’s fine to wait for tasty food.

Visited them in their new premises. Menu has expanded. Still the same exquisite flavours. Word of mouth reviews led us to The White Pepper. It didn't disappoint. It does not have the overlong menu of traditional curry houses but what they do is specialise. And every meal is exquisite. You will not be disappointed. Whoever is the chef is at the very top of their profession at the moment. We had the fried prawn starter, beef biryani and sea bass. All cooked to perfection.

I have been to White Pepper several times and wanted to leave a review about their food and service this time. For Malayalis missing their traditional food in the UK, White Pepper is a great option. The food is delicious, especially the date pickle and salad they serve as starters. My favorite dish is the porotta and beef masala, but I also thoroughly enjoyed their fish fry during my last visit. If you are in Weymouth, I encourage you to try White Pepper for a taste of Kerala cuisine.

Do not be put off by the surroundings!! Let the food do the talking. I won't dwell on the place or decor as it was explained that it's what they inherited and plans are in motion to revamp and put their own stamp on the place. The surrounding were soon forgotten as the freindly attentive staff soon added the warmth needed. Then came the star of the show. The food was beautiful, no frills just quality authentic Indian food. If you you want a unaturaly red tandoori or a sweaty naan this is probably not for you. Probably the best food I have had outside of Asia.

As one customer previously wrote ‘ do not judge a book by its cover !’ We had been recommended The White Pepper by a local who told us to ignore the decor & concentrate on the knowledge & passion of the owners & staff to enjoy the food , which was in his opinion very good . Please remember this is not a curry house ! This is Keralan ! The people from the south delicately balance their ingredients , their unique use of spices are gently layered throughout the dishes & their sauces on this particular evening were like velvet . Enough ….. the staff here are lovely & even somewhat shy but engage them in conversation & you will notice how keen they are to please . My taste buds were extremely satisfied that evening & if I’m ever down in Weymouth again this is the place I’m heading to . Best wishes to you all & I hope you go from strength to strength

The food is exceptional, it’s so delicious and fantastic Indian cuisine!! I totally recommend this restaurant for food. It’s a bit expensive compared to others in Weymouth, but in mine and my wife’s view, nothing comes close to the food of the White Pepper! We moved down from London a few years back and we were becoming disheartened by the diversity of food here. But now we have found this place we are delighted!! The only down side is the atmosphere of the hotel which needs an update. So we take away.

We went to The White Pepper last night for a birthday meal, and it's safe to say we will definitely be going back! Whilst this isn't a traditional curry house and the decor is somewhat dated, the food was fantastic and the service genuinely friendly. The menu is based on the food of the region the owners originate from, so don't expect your traditional offerings. But go with an open mind and you will leave pleased with your dining choice for the evening.

Waited two and a quarter hours for the main course, and when it finally arrived, it was stone cold. We had to send it back. The waiter assured us they would make a fresh one, but the plate was returned 5 minutes later, and hot I assume they reheated it. Other than our group and a table of 2 adults and 2 toddlers, there was no one else there, so I can't understand the dreadful wait. The portions were miniscal, and I left hungry, having spent £45. We had the five course pre selected Christmas dinner. O M G absolutely incredible. You get 3 starters to get going, they just get better and better. It's fine dining in a Weymouth hotel restaurant so imagine getting MasterChef food in a burger King. Then we both had turkey and stuffing curry....forget what you've just imagined, this was another level of curry that you've never had before with the perfect blend of a taste of roast dinners with curry spiced flavours. Hey? So I’m a bit of a food person and the way that you get treated very often can make the food taste better (If you know what I mean) 😖😖😖 This restaurant???? No. Terrible. Terrible. TERRIBLE! So at first I liked the whole “front Room house look” It usually means homemade cooking!!!! NO. I made a special trip down from Wales And my best friends who live here wanted to take me somewhere different…and new. Oh dear. 😖😖😖 It all started out great…I asked the waiters name… He was lovely ( only good thing about this place) Anish. We waited over an hour for the main dishes. Now, there’s not a lot of menu choice (be warned) not a bad thing as such …. however, the three of us asked questions about the dishes, two of ours came with a “sauce”? Now, I’m Welsh and I love my curry, CURRY??? There wasn’t any on two dishes??? Meat. No sauce. I ordered a spicy dish, £18! Just the dish, no sauce. DRY!!!!!!So my friend asked for extra sauce and said it was dry. They brought coconut sauce. So I added some although my dish was tomato based and I’m not a fan of mild coconut tastes. Just to get some juice on the dish ! The rice side dish was a packet of boiled microwave rice and u could see the veg in the dish was that cubed, bagged veg that comes frozen… no oils or spices? £6 !!!! No fresh veg??? Horrible. Then my friends asked where the “noodles” were? They brought them after the meal… dry and u could lift them with ur fingers!? !!!!!! and I gotta be honest I’ve had juicier Supernoodles! You have to see the photos to believe it? £4 for dry super noodles??? Now I left 3/4 of my dinner my other friends ate theirs and also complained but I had explained the food was awful… the waiter has arguing with me demanding that I just didn’t like it ?!!?? I left most of it and he was obnoxious and wouldn’t listen to our comments…. Refusing to hear why I had left most of my food. This wasn’t Anish. I never got the name of the guy who took over our order. He wasn’t nice. So we sat with the dishes there for 20 mins. My friends both like a quiet life and they did complain, bit ate the food but I hadn’t eaten most of mine so I didn’t wanna pay? The waiter demanded we Pay and said he would take the white dry Supernoodles off the bill as they came AFTER a the meal ( I’m sorry Supernoodles) you are better than this?!) I believe legally if you haven’t eaten the food in a restaurant, even if it’s unpalatable, you should’nt pay for it. I never ate most of it didn’t enjoy it. I did love the taste that was there….but there was no sauce on the plate like it said on the menu? My 2 friends paid the whole bill as the waiter was beginning to make them feel humiliated and embarrassed. They shouldn’t have to do that for me but I didn’t want the night to be even more ruined for them.

Awful, £13 for 5 bits of beef, dry as anything, asked for rice noodles that came out after we ate our food… noodles were clearly super noodles , no flavor to them, dry, clumped together and over Priced at £5 a bowl.portions were minimal too. Best part was the popadoms and dips at the beginning. My friends food had more leaves in it than Meat. I had to ask for some of the coconut curry sauce to put over my masala as mine was dry, the vegetable rice is just plain basmati with frozen veg in it, no taste to it.

This restaurant falls short in several aspects. The shocking old-fashioned decor, resembling a dated church hall, creates an atmosphere that feels more out-of-touch than charming. The worn-out carpets add to the overall shabbiness. Located in the back room of a building, the setting is peculiar and fails to contribute positively to the dining experience. The curry, while not terrible, lacks the exceptional quality one might hope for. It hovers around mediocrity, leaving diners with unmet expectations. Service, though polite, carries a noticeable awkwardness. The staff's interactions lack the seamless professionalism one would expect in a dining establishment. Overall, this restaurant seems to struggle in both ambiance and culinary excellence, making it a less-than-ideal choice for those seeking a satisfying and comfortable dining experience.

I was looking forward to this meal given the good reviews and given I really enjoy South Indian cuisine. However I was really disappointed. The location is just in a back room of a hotel, with dated carpets and a basic set up. The service last night was awful. It took about 20 minutes to get drinks ordered then about 90 minutes for food to arrive. There was one point when the restaurant was full and not a single table had food. Neither fish curry was available, we weren’t told when we arrived, just when we ordered. And then the vegetable dish I ordered was bland and not enjoyable at all. For balance, the masala dosa was ok and the paratha was pretty good albeit cold. I hope last night was just an off night and they were short staffed but given both food and service were bad I have my doubts.

Gorgeous food, awful service. It took almost two hours after ordering before our starters were served, our mains were not so bad being just 40 minutes later. Location & atmosphere is very basic, being in an old hotel that is in desperate need of renovation and some tlc. Only two members of staff working tables, one the manager putting on as braves face as he could and a waitress who seemed largely useless as she only seemed to serve tables she chose to, very odd. Drinks are provided by the hotel so the restaurant can’t even give you a free bottle of wine for your trouble without it costing them a disproportionate amount. Really think the food stands out, they should be in their own premises, properly staffed. Great food but a risky proposition for dinner if hungry.

A real shame, we dined with friends who had been before and had warned us that service was slow but that the food was worth the wait. It took more than 90 minutes for our starters, we had got to the point of leaving as there was no communication from the waiters or the kitchen. When the food finally arrived it was delicious, but I am not sure that I would recommend or wait this length of time ever again. They had several takeaway orders going out during our visit and I am not sure where the priorities lay. If you are happy to wait upto 2 hours for your meal go otherwise look elsewhere.

To fill the void of a 2.5 hours wait we suggest you bring a pack of cards to fill your time. This restaurant is chaotic disorganised and miss managed. The little staff they have are oblivious to the customers needs. If we hadn’t had a surprise birthday celebration we would have walked out. Drinks took 1hr to arrive. We could see them sitting on the bar, so decided to be our own waitress. A staff member saw us & smiled & disappeared into the kitchen. It seemed that take sways were the main priority. It became a bit of a joke as we waited & waited. The restaurant was quite busy & we all chatted across the restaurant, commenting on this pure lack of customer care. Basil Faulty was the main term of reference. The restaurant was extremely lucky that the customers were making a joke of it all. Lots of laughter was heard throughout the wait. A few people walked out & as people became hangry they started to complain. 2.5hrs later. The spasmodic starters arrived. Then immediately as the last mouthful was finished the main arrived. Two orders were forgotten! There was no apology & total lack of awareness or care. Overall the food was average. It was a shame as we had high expectations. None of us have ever experienced such a shambles, mainly because we would have walked out. I’m not quite sure how they have such a high rating.

Best Keralan food but terrible service We come here often and went to the original restaurant, so it’s sad to write up a poor score and review. Waiting for 90 mins for starters did not help set the right tone. Then we were told it would be 6 mins but 15mins later we were still waiting! As always the food is brilliant and we will return (but not on a Saturday). The main pupose of this post is to call out the incredible poor service we received and when the bill arrived to be told ‘it is what it is’ and we had to fight to get some compensation £5 for a £130 bill was pitiful and frankly insulting. We spoke to other diners and all were just as unhappy. The waiter felt we should come on a different night…is that the point! It was clear they were focusing on takeout and in the restaurant were short staffed. Just tell the truth !!

I recently dined at the Indian restaurant (Kerala cuisine) in Weymouth, Dorchester, and it was truly a remarkable experience. The food was not only delicious but also exceeded my expectations in several ways. First and foremost, the taste of the dishes was exceptional. Each bite was a burst of authentic Indian flavors that left my taste buds dancing with delight. It's evident that the chef, Louis, has a deep understanding of Kerala cuisine and a true passion for his craft. What impressed me even more was the generous portion sizes. The servings were substantial, ensuring that no one at the table left hungry. It's rare to find such generous portions at a restaurant, and it made the dining experience even more enjoyable and appreciable. Now, let's talk about value for money. Dining at this restaurant is an excellent value. Considering the quality of the food and the portion sizes, the prices are incredibly reasonable. You get not only a memorable culinary experience but also great value for your hard-earned money. I would say the price is 25% to 30% cheaper with extraordinary quality compared to even hyped Indian restaurants in London and suburbs. Lastly, I want to commend Chef Louis for his ethical cooking practices. It's refreshing to know that the restaurant prioritizes ethical sourcing fresh and sustainable cooking methods. This commitment to ethics and freshness adds an extra layer of satisfaction to the dining experience. This Indian restaurant in Weymouth, is a hidden gem that deserves high praise. The excellent taste, generous portions, value for money, and Chef Louis's dedication to ethical cooking make it a must-visit for anyone looking to savor authentic Indian cuisine. I can't wait to return for another delightful feast. Thanking myself for not trying fish and chips from a beach town. Well done The White Pepper and Chef Louis. You deserve a 3xMichelin Star!!!

The best Indian food that I have had in UK in the last couple of years! My husband & I stopped for an early lunch yesterday. Tantalising flavours! I had Masala Dosa, absolutely delicious! We also ordered 2 malabar Biriyanis to take back home with us & they are nothing like the Biriyanis you get in most indian restaurants in UK,the flavour profile is just in another league! Absolutely delicious! Try this restaurant & you won’t regret! My mouth is watering as I write. Sadly we don’t live in 2.5h drive from Weymouth otherwise we would be here every week. Highly recommend!

Unbelievable food. Off chance to visit but so pleased we did. Flavoursome food and really good service. Had the chicken biriani and vegetable dosa and both were superb. Ordered too much as usually do and disappointed that was unable to finish.

Dear Sir / Madam; I am writing today as I feel compelled to complain. I was visiting my brother in Weymouth and his neighbours wanted to catch up with and suggested going to your restaurant for dinner, as they had been before… evidently before you moved into the hotel premises. We arranged to meet them on the front pavement of the hotel, before coming in for our 7pm booking. I had not seen my friends for ages, but as soon as we sat down one of your staff came out and interrupted us, to say you was a full restaurant bookings and we needed to look at the limited menu and order, as it would take 30mins from when we ordered for our food!!! I was so shocked, along with the locals whom live in Weymouth; food always takes 30mins from ordering so I am still bemused as to why you needed to interrupt us to tell us this, along with when you put the bevy’s down, you knocked over my gin and tonic, with hardly any apology. We did not order until we went to our table, as we were all angry by you interrupting us. I am at a huge loss, as to why my local Weymouth friends think your restaurant food is good. They were also extremely disappointed and now I am back in Kent, I am complaining The portions, taste and ambience was not satisfactory in any shape or form, along with your service. Being at back room of a hotel, is awful coupled with the fact that the restaurant was NOT full on 23/6, so there was no need to be so rude to interrupt us having a drink. I cannot believe, your menu is so limited, i found it extremely tasteless, ridiculously small portion and the price astronomical I eat out a lot in Kent and London, which are far superior, both with service, ambiance, food, portion size and pricing. Yours truthfully awaiting your reply

The food was outstanding and the service to match. My wife and I are from an area full of Indian culture and we have had our fair share of Indian food, but this was fantastic and some of the best we have had. It’s authentic and not cooked just to please the English, which is always a positive and you get to really experience the taste of Kerala. The staff are really lovely and it’s clear they have a passion for what they do. Would love to go back should we find ourselves in Weymouth again.
