The White Lion in Central Bedfordshire

Had a Valentine Day meal with wife and daughter. I went for Prawn Cocktail, Pie and Mash and Apple Crumble while wife had humous and half chicken. Daughter had steak and sticky toffee pudding. The food was good and we didn't have any issues with them. But it's didn't look very busy for a Valentine Day night and I have to say it was half empty even though they were telling us it was fully booked. Also tables were not being cleared away as one table next to us was not cleared during the entirety of our meal. The pub looks to be a bit in disrepair with cobwebs in the dining hall and the toilet definitely needing a deep clean. For God sake put some bleach in the cistern. My wife enjoyed our evening and she recommended this restaurant on a previous visit but she said she won't come back again. Think this place needs another refurb or it will be closed again.

Was a bit sceptical and worried about coming here again, as we knew the pub had new owners. Well we needn't have worried, it was a really great experience. Although it was very quiet (apparently that is normal for a Monday), the food and service were fantastic . Brandon (owner) was extremely attentive and very friendly. It is obvious that he and his wife really want this to work. He was very open about customers' feedback and genuinely interested in customers' opinions. The food was great and cooked to order. From the food, you can also see that the chef is very passionate about what they do. Overall a very pleasant experience and will definitely return.

Went Friday night (07.02.25) Starters were beautiful, there was a slight problem with my partners main meal but was rectified immediately. Very good service and the new owner spent ages talking with us about her plan for the future of the resturant. Very good service and will defo return

Went here yesterday late afternoon then first time for a while. The food was so good . Brandon and Lucy are excellent hosts. Nothing was to much trouble to make our visit one to remember. We will definitely be back.

I met up with a friend for a meal at the White Lion, we were greeted by Brandon, who then went onto serve us during the corse of the evening, making sure everything was OK and asking foe honest opinions of the food, which was delicious. Although there was a quiz going on at the time, it wasn’t too noisy and We were able to continue our conversation as normal. The only minor thing, they need to improve the layout of the allergens app, to make it easier to view properly. Overall, Brandon was a great host, we will be going back and recommending the White Lion to friends

Fantastic meal, lovely friendly atmosphere. Brandon was so accommodating and friendly, went out of his way to sing Happy Birthday to my daughter! Lucy's deserts were fab too! Highly recommend! Especially the spicy sauce!

Good food and good atmosphere and good people who work here and they made my birthday feel special and he even sang to me for my birthday and he even put the song Ruby Ruby for my birthday such good food

The food at atmosphere is fantastic. Brandon made the whole experience memorable for my sisters birthday, the card and singing was a lovely touch she can’t stop smiling! Desserts were lovely thank you Lucy. Will 100% recommend to everyone thank you guys !

My steak & chips was fantastic value for £16.50, cooked just how I like it (so a good vet could bring it back to life) meal for 6 Inc starters, mains deserts & drinks for £110! Haven't been here for years BUT will be back soon. Had a get together with some girls from the NHS. Had a delicious steak and ale pie. Homemade succulent pies of meat and lovely pastry The others had steak. Everyone so happy with their meals and perfect deserts. Service spot on. Manager lovely and welcoming. This place is under new management and its great for quiet get together mid week and family's at weekends. Can't rave on about it enough. This would be a great for a works Christmas do or leaving do etc. Go there you won't be disappointed. Friendly clean fab food.

**UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT** This place has been transformed by the new owner Brandon - once arrived, a humble welcome by Brandon and guide to our table, the atmosphere inside is beyond what you'd expect for its location, its quiet, warm and inviting. The food was excellent and this place is the place to go for steaks locally. Brandon's service is incredible and I hope everyone gets the opportunity to be greeted by him. The prices are below par for the area so is a great place to go for an affordable, yet delightful meal. Though, it's very difficult not to tip.... and Brandon will put up a fight about accepting one! they're just too good! Will be coming back, thank you Brandon

Dining here was an absolute pleasure, it hosted a very nice, calm environment to enjoy the great food which arrived quickly, the owner Brandon was very nice and welcoming, and gave great service, will be dining here again.

Lovely pub! I visited this pub as it was a convenient halfway point for my friends and me, and we had a fantastic experience. The lunch menu offered a great variety, including all the classics and lighter options too. I ordered the gammon, and it was absolutely delicious—perfectly juicy and full of flavor, which was a pleasant surprise since gammon can sometimes be dry. Everything was clearly freshly made. For dessert, we all chose the mini crumble with a hot drink, which was not only delicious but also beautifully presented. I’ll definitely be coming back the next time I’m in the area! Also the owner was so lovely and has put so much effort into making this pub as nice as it is!

A lovely place to eat with friendly staff, delicious food and a warm atmosphere. It was our second time visiting and we look forward to going again soon.

Mon 20 jan. Our very first visit to the White Lion. We thoroughly enjoyed a lazy lunch served with delightful food accompanied by a superb draught bitter. Compliments to the Chef and our appreciation of the warm hospitality extended by our host. Thank you Brandon.

A bit pricey for what it is but nice food and good service

We went for lunch today after being recommended by a friend. It's not been good in the past. Its been taken over by a lovley young couple and the food was really nice and reasonably priced. It's dog friendly. So we took our Cockerpoo who had a good fuss. Would highly recommend.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at the White Lion Pub in Houghton Regis, and I was thoroughly impressed. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and attentive service. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, with a cozy decor that creates a comfortable ambiance. The food was absolutely delicious! We started with the calamari and feta cheese salad, both of which were perfectly cooked and seasoned. For my main course, I had the burger and for dessert the delicious ice cream sundae. I had a wonderful dining experience at the White Lion Pub. The food was excellent, the service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was charming. I would highly recommend this pub restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious and enjoyable meal in Dunstable.

We had a wonderful family lunch here today, the service was excellent and friendly. The children loved the colouring sheets that became interactive with scanning the QR code. The food was great value. Will define be back. Thank you Brandon and team.

Following a recommendation my partner and I went lunchtime today and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was great (various starters, half roast chicken and slaw, sausage and mash) and, after my partner had the mini crumble and coffee for dessert he wished he'd indulged in a larger crumble in the first place! A few teething problems with sluggish service (asking for water, salt etc) and my partner's main was not that hot - but that was nothing that couldn't be rectified quickly and as far as the food temperature was concerned, he didn't mention it til he'd finished so it can't have been that bad! Staff were friendly and interested in feedback. It was not that busy so atmosphere a bit lacking, but background music pleasant and it will pick up if it keeps going like this - we will definitely be going back (and taking people) and I recommend others to give it a go.

Just had a lovely lunchtime meal at the White Lion. We had Vegan burgers and they were really tasty and perfectly cooked. Drinks were great and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed. The new owners are doing a great job! Looking forward to coming back 😊

Visited for a family Christmas lunch and had the festive menu, the food was amazing! We had the salmon, wild mushroom pie and the roast turkey, and we all really enjoyed. The new owners were lovely and so welcoming, definitely recommend. Thanks guys!

I've been to the White Lion three times since new managers took over in November, for a work lunch, a Sunday roast and a Christmas dinner with a large group. Every meal has been delicious and it's clear that the new team are putting so much love and care into making this pub great. Will definitely be back!

The White Lion came to our rescue after the choir were let down at the last minute by our original Christmas meal booking, and it was a triumph! The food was absolutely delicious and the welcome was great. We were all so impressed, and wish the lovely new managers every success.

It was not busy when we went, in total about 5 tables. Staff were friendly although not very attentive, everything took a long time. Food looked great but unfortunately some dishes were cold and generally not the tastiest but were ok. Overall, somewhat disappointed.

Staff could not do enough for us.Very friendly, food served quickly even though we were a large party of 11. Great beer and drink choices. We will be going back.

This is Dunstable’s best pub for a nice family meal. Great food and very reasonable. Brandon and Lucy are the perfect hosts.

Just had lunch with my daughter. Staff very welcoming and the food was good. Would definitely visit again.

The last time we were here we were very disappointed. But now, under the new management, it was so much better. A nice welcome when we arrived and the food was really well cooked and reasonable priced. Will definitely come back again soon.

You could go to every pub in the uk and not find a better burger Reduced menu before opening but everything we had was great price and better taste New owners are going to go far 10/10 recommend

The kitchen closes at 8pm, so we were rushed, so was the food rushed and not good, we will not be back.

Saturday 28th September 2024 at 02.40am 7 to 8 people fitting outside of pub lots of noise and shouting and bottles being broken, Police were called, what's going on at the pub Sunday 6th November 2022 at 1.16 am, the Web site says your closed, it does not sound like it in Chalk Hill, am I right or wrong , trying to get some sleep call a day When you going to stop Punch Tavern Event at the White Lion Chalk Hill Dunstable LU6 I would recommend you find somewhere else to go when they have a music event here Believe next on on Sat 30th April 2022 as the noise pollution is between 65 to 95 decibels I wish to put a complaint to the White Lion Pub at Chalk Hill and the organisers of the music event today, Saturday 24th July 2021, this event was not advertised locally, none of the local residents were informed, a recording of 86.3 decibels was recorded at 14.00, the speakers appear to be facing most of the residential house. The effect of the loud base sound is causing a disturbance to residences, the spoke person at the event ,did not seems to care about the effect this is having, a request was made to turn the base down, we were told this was not possible, a request was made to point the speakers towards the empty field, we were told that it can not be done, this sound will be going on for 10 hours, we are asking you to speak to the organisers about this complaint. Now another loud music event on the 18th September 2021, no response from owners or promoters concerning the very loud noise in Chalk hill area affecting the local residents LOOKS LIKE ANOTHER EVENT WITHOUT CONSULTING THE LOCAL RESIDENTS , DO WE HAVE TO TO AGAIN ALL HAVE TO VACATE THE CHALK HILL AREA FOR UP TO 12 HOURS DUE TO THE EXCESS NOISE, WHY DO YOU NOT POINT THE SPEAKERS AT THE PUB OR BETTER POINT THEM AT THE FIELD, DO YOU NOT THINK IT WOULD HAVE BEEN POLITE TO TALK TO THE LOCAL RESIDANTS Saturday 1st october 2022. I am wandering what are the closing times on a Saturday as it was still going after 1am with music playing. And the noise from the car park with people shouting at each other for over an hour, Would be after being served in the pub , but would that be the responsibility of the Punch Taverns Owners of the the White Lion or the resident landlord to advise their customers to take consideration for the local village residences, and not make so much noise when leaving the Establishment, as the noise travels in this hamlet and some people would like to get to sleep at 1.00am in the morning, perhaps Punch Tavern should take some notice

Absolutely disgusting, the worst roast I’ve ever had. Gravy was like slime, chicken unseasoned & everything tasted it had been sitting under a hot counter for 24 hours. It was vile.

There was a clear lack of staff when we arrived and throughout our visit. I specifically asked what veg would be served with the roast and when it was served it was completely different and covered in a sauce that none of the 3 people having the roast liked. All roasts were missing the stuffing and this was brought out when our meals were nearly finished although not one person finished their meal as it was not very nice. The chicken was very dry and the potatoes were soggy and tasteless. Both burgers were also very dry and were served with the biggest ever portion of fries that I have ever had. Our area and others were not cleared up afterwards and we had to remove our glasses and plates ourselves to make room on the table. When settling our bill we let the staff know our concerns and were told they were unable to refund any money as there was no management available to authorise this. All in all it was a very disappointing experience and considering we were there for a birthday meal this was not what we had expected.

Been here several times since we moved to Dunstable. Always very friendly staff. Food has been nice when we've eaten, with a lovely Sunday roast offered. They have live music and a good atmosphere and beer garden.

Came here with a large number of friends for something to eat and drink. Decent menu and friendly staff. OK selection of drinks, a couple of the designated drivers complained there no alcohol free beers, so they had to have a soft drink instead. But that's a small thing. Food came pretty quickly and was fine. The only criticism was that you couldn't turn off the outside patio heater and it was already a warm day. I would revisit.

Lovely Sunday roast, no rush, plenty of room and bouncy castle for the kids

Went on Sunday 30th June about 1pm for a roast dinner...there was live music and you could watch the England match.....Great atmosphere. I had the Chicken and my partner had the Beef....she mentioned it was a bit fatty...only criticism 😔 We have been many times to The White Lion and will certainly continue.....it's a good pub.

£7 a pint is a bit steep considering other pubs in the area however has great facilities and great staff.

Chloe was fantastic, a great server. Food was very well made and cooked perfectly, Very reasonable prices too. 2 starters, 2 mains and drinks for under £50. Will be going back.

Food so overpriced lasagne £14 10cm square served with nothing!! Plates not cleared had to go to the bar to order dessert, which was served amongst dinner plates that they still werent cleared after they delivered desserts.

Food was awful! I've had better at a whetherspoons. Ordered the BLT which was meant to be on 'farmhouse bloomer bread' but what I got was cheap thin white bread, barely a slice of bacon, some iceberg lettuce thrown in and a ridiculous amount of mayo. The southern fried chicken wrap was inedible because of how much garlic was in it and their was only one member of staff in!

Worst meal ever ☹️ no wonder the place was empty. Bowl which was too small of linguine with vegetables and chicken, unfortunately completely tasteless virtually no vegetables or chicken and what chicken there was had gristle and was rock solid. Starter was rock solid sourdough couldn’t even cut into it , 2 mouthfuls of mushrooms which had no flavour. Will never go back there

Would normally have a good experience but booked for today and wasn't told it was their 1 Yr opening and had very loud life music .Had family visiting but couldn't talk because of loud music .Food was amazing just disappointed we weren't told before hand about life music .would have somewhere else

Food was very nice but spoilt with a disco at 6:20 on Saturday evening. So loud you struggled to hear yourself talk. We left early with no desert or 2nd drinks

Booked here with some friends for drinks and bar snacks before headibg out to show at rhe Grove Theatre. We was not disappointed. We booked online easily enough. We was greeted warmly by the bar staff and seated swiftly despite it being busy at that time. The waitress was very polite and had great wine recommendations. We ordered bar snacks which all arrived hot and larger than expected portion sizes. We did go into the garden after eating and really enjoyed the late afternoon sunshine in such pretty surroundings. If we didn't have plans we would have probably stayed much longer. We have booked Sunday lunch for later in the month and look forward to going back.

This is a stunning venue, Refurbished 2 years ago by punch to a very high standard offering pool and darts with a large outside seating/dining area. Lydia was a perfect host although very early in the morning. This place has a great reputation for customer service it's lovely and clean throughout and had a very large carpark Make sure you enter your registration in to the tablet as the carpark is monitored by 3rd party company !! All in all a lovely place for food, drinks and socialising 😎

Sunday roast. Easter Sunday 3pm Just a bit rubbish to be honest. 3 meat roast. Had very obviously been reheated by the microwave up to tepid when it arrived at the table. Chicken was dry and the skin shriveled up yet had no colour to it. Pork was mostly fat and also very dry. Beef was pretty raw and chewy and cut do thick that youde need a steak knife to get through it. Gravy was bisto and cold. As for atmosphere - either people shouting at the football - kids running feral - it the bloke doing live music so loud you couldn't speak to the person next to you without shouting. Table was sticky and didn't feel safe to lean on as it was coming away from the legs. Basically - not somewhere I'd want to revisit Sorry.

Service was excellent. Unfortunately the table next to us was a party and a little bit loud so couldn't hear some of what was being said on my own table. Not the pubs fault. Food was great but I ordered the duo roast and only got 1 slice of each meat. My wife had the chicken and got 2 decent portions of chicken but mine cost more, so a bit disappointed by that

Best place for a night out in Dunstable, Such an amazing atmosphere for a night out and bar staff to cater for whatever drink or shot you could ever want. I’ve never felt unwelcome at any point in my many visits here. Lydia, Gaz and her whole team of staff strive for perfection.

I often bring the family for Sunday dinner here and always have amazing service. The food is great quality, good portion sizes for a great price. We came here on valentines day and had a beautiful 3 course meal. There was a lot of non alcoholic drinks on offer. I would definitely recommend eating here.
