Superb cafe, food is always perfect. Not one complaint at all, lovely staff and very friendly. Won’t use another cafe in this area, definitely recommend. White House kitchen 10/10

Food was not to bad for a breakfast but waiting an hour was a joke as I needed to go back to work , even a hot roll takes like 20mins and why . What happened to the other chef

Been here before and food was greasy, no flavour just grease , but now for past couple months it’s been great , I’ve booked xmas dinner as it’s a lovely place to to sit and chat . Ordered a Scottish breakfast and it was cooked to perfection , I also think the prices are very good compared to others and more taste and no grease . Definitely recommend this place to all the residents around so warm inside this time of yr , it’s perfect . One more thing the place is starting to look more professional.

Good food at very reasonable prices. Great variety on the menu and the service was excellent. Both the chef and waiting staff couldn't do enough for us. As disabled customers it was much appreciated. Will definitely be back and would definitely recommend. Thanks!

A good friendly cafe in the middle of Craigmillar and an asset to the area, set in a great wee building. If you are visiting Craigmillar Castle definitely the place for a cup of tea afterwards.

This was a real treat at lunchtime. Was at a seminar here and stayed for lunch. Good decision! Great quality and value food, great service and the people running the place had super rapport with the customers. Art Deco building, many features worth looking closely at only added to a memorable lunchtime. An all round perfect experience. Would encourage anyone who has not yet been here to go along - sooner rather than later!

The White House is in a restored Art Deco building with lots of period features Access - excellent, right on local bus routes, some cycle paths nearby, local street parking. The access into the building is on the level and there is a disabled toilet Cafe - high ceiling white airy room with choice of tables or sofa’s the counter is at the far end, with the menu on the walls. There seemed to be a function room at the rear. Staff were friendly and efficient Food - a choice of breakfast’s, sandwiches, light bites, soup and lunches were on offer. This little gem with its art-deco 1936 exterior suffers quite a lot from the "location, location" situation. Niddrie Mains Road is not artistic, touristic, or particularly commercial like The New Town or the Royal Mile, Leith Harbour, Ocean Terminal, Cramond, Roslyn, or similar - but it has great (and somewhat surprising) views of Arthur's Seat and Craigmillar Castle is a short walk away from the nearby bus stops. However, it's recent 2 million grant to totally refurbish the interior was money very well spent. As other reviewers have mentioned the food - which is good, basic, tasty, etc. - and the friendly staff: so I am reviewing the building, the environment and its potential - which is huge. Most of the 2 million grant was well spent on the interior of this protected building; but a few thousand more spent on the exterior would make it shine and more soundly prosperous. A little imagination could easily envisage a sun/rain roller blind, some external furniture and some outside planters in the front. A refurbishment of the left-side, protected pavement could make it look like a French-Italian bistro. A pizza oven could result in an evening opening - say Friday's & Saturday's. It has a great venue space - seating about 120 people - which is only used occasionally - yet it has a great floor space and could easily accommodate some form of art installation or exhibition. Why it is not listed as Festival venue is perhaps the fault of some short-sighted trustees. I recommend it - and it and, whilst the chocolate cupcakes are not the tastyist I have ever had and the coffee is pleasant and ubiquitous Definitely worth a visit!

Found this place while visiting area on business. Very clean and food very tasty. I had chicken and sweet corn soup which contained a lot of chicken. I also had a cheese and pickle toasty which was delicious. No fancy frills but an honest cafe which will not disappoint.

Wir haben hier eine ganze Woche lang (es hat leider am Wochenende geschlossen) fast jeden Tag ausgiebig gefrühstückt, weil es einfach spitze ist! Hier gibt es ein 4 item Breakfast das man beliebig erweitern kann- das haben wir ausgiebig genutzt. Leckere Kuchen und eine Das Personal ist extrem herzlich und das Essen ist einfach klasse! Das Ambiente des White House hat zwar nicht den Charme eines Pubs, aber der gemeinnützige Zweck des Hauses ist auch Grund genug hierhin zu kommen!

This is easily the nicest place we have eaten at in Edinburgh for a long time. The food is fantastic. Perfect location for a visit before or after Craigmillar Castle.

Estábamos visitando esta parte de Edimburgo para ver nuestra hija jugar un partido de rugby así que nos registramos TripAdvisor para un sitio cerca para tomar el almuerzo. Tengo que admitir que si no había leído los comentarios que pueden haber manejado recto hasta que no parece que el tipo de lugar que suele ser visitado. (La zona está en el proceso de siendo una gran oferta de regeneración y los planes aspecto genial). Sin embargo, nos limitamos a nuestro plan, aparcamos el coche, caminé a lo largo de la hilera de tiendas y nos dirigimos a la Casa Blanca. Dentro del edificio que son recibidos en una habitación limpia y luminosa con pequeñas mesas coloridas y algunos sofás. Los especiales junta tenía una lista de apetitosos platos todos en excepcionalmente buenos precios.

Al llegar a Edimburgo temprano para una reunión que van a encontrar un lugar en donde pasar una hora. Conduciendo a través de un desfile inauspicious de tiendas en el borde de una urbanización me encontré con un hermoso edificio art deco y decidimos darle una oportunidad. La casa blanca es increíble. Desde el momento en que entras hay animación en el lugar, un verdadero sentimiento de comunidad, con Personal de todas las procedencias. Thestaff es amable y educado. Yo estaba un poco tarde para el almuerzo, pero decidimos probar la pasión Pastel. Simplemente fue una de las mejores tartas he comido. El café era increíble y la comida en otras mesas me hubiese tenido skiped mi comida de servicios de la autopista y se llevó a cabo en otra hora. Un gran lugar para comer o el desayuno.

I would highly recommend 'The White House'. The pulled meat burgers are absolutely amazing and at a great price. Service was also good. Don't pass this place by - give it a go!

I occasionally have lunch here with a friend. The food is excellent very wide choice and just lovely. The staff are really friendly and they grow their own vegetables for soups salads etc. Always beautifully dressed salads without having to ask for the olive lot etc. I would highly recommend this cafe

Was in the area for work, saw good reviews on Trip Advisor, definitely not disappointed! Really tasty food and so many yummy cakes! Very clean & tidy with very friendly staff. DzAlso an excellent use for a heritage building and all profits go to the community. Warm fuzzy feeling bonus.

We found this wonderful community cafe / restaurant quite by accident while my husband was in the Infirmary for surgery .My family and I went for a walk and ended up in Craigmillar .The area is rather tatty and rundown but I had noticed a rather fine white building with a menu in the window so we went in for a cup of tea .The White House is bright and welcoming with lovely decor and lovely food to match .We decided to sit outside and were highly impressed by the many raised beds made of old railway sleepers where the restaurant grows a lot of their own produce .Although you can also park your car there ,it is a really attractive area to sit in .The staff are so friendly and attentive that we returned there every day of our stay and tried different things from the menu ,all of which were delicious .Try the Cullen skink soup and the macaroni cheese ! We will definitely go back when in Edinburgh. The White House is a place the local residents should be very proud to have on their doorstep .A real gem .

the establishment is small, the menu choice was smaller than other venues, however the food quality was excellent and the service from the staff was really good, welcoming and friendly. Prices were good.

This is a great place to go to for lunch or meetings. There is not much in this part of town however the WhiteHouse makes up for it. Staff are very friendly and there is a healthy choice of food.

It stays in a developing area in Edinburgh but it's quite close to Cameron Toll shopping and Fort Kinnaird. Food, coffee, tea are top class and worth the visit. In addition, profits go to charity. Easy to find space to park and great atmosphere.

I come here often for coffee / lunch. The menu is extensive and always very tasty. Took my in laws for lunch yesterday and it cost £17 all in. My father in law was delighted with his fish and hand cut chips. Illy coffee, nice toilets and very easy to come with kids, pushchairs etc. Great atmosphere and very nice staff.

Visited for lunch on a Monday bank holiday. Have been before but had to leave as it was so busy and a long wait for foodBoth partner and I had the pulled pork burger with homemade fries and homemade coleslaw. It was delicious. Will definitely return here the menu is varied and all the foid that I saw looked lovely fresh and a good size. Very reasonable priced as well.Well done.

Live just down the road and often come here for food. Really nice and simple food. Nothing too fancy, something for everyone! Amazing prices, nice cakes.

The building has gone under major renovations in recent years after lying empty for over a decade.What a great job they have done,The little café inside is excellent but unfortunately dose not open long enough hours to be of great use to me.i would use it more if it was open at weekends.

I'm just back from lunch with my friend at this beautiful restaurant- I had roasted vegetable couscous with home smoked salmon and a wonderful dressing (£3.50) followed by Mille feuille with raspberry coulis and cream - so light and crispy and yummy (£2.50). Incredible value for money served in a contemporary art deco space. A well kept secret... so go and discover it for yourself!

We had lunch at the White House as part of a company Away Day. The lunch was really tasty and very good value for the quality of the food provided. Lovely art deco setting sympathetically converted.

Very pleasantly surprised to find such a good cafe/restaurant. Located in a refurbished art deco building on the route into Edinburgh, the service was pleasant and efficient and there was a good varied choice of items on the menu. The food was very high quality and tended to cater for the more sophisticated and healthy palate, without being too exotic. Pricing was also very reasonable; more than would be expected for some pub lunches but much lower than most restaurants. The southern fried chicken was delicious and a good selection of baked potato fillings. Definitely worth a visit if you fancy a good selection of high quality meals at very reasonable price. At present only opens during normal working hours.

Had a lovely lunch at The White House cafe with excellent, courteous service. Highlights were the baked potato with hot smoked salmon, soybeans, broad beans and kale - unusual and delicious - and a range of gorgeous fresh cakes and puddings.

Relaxed atmosphere, clean colourful modern furniture, choice of seating including comfy sofas.Tables are well set apart from each other so it does not feel crowded and you get a sense of having a bit of your own personal space. Food was imaginative, well flavoured, well presented and very reasonably priced. Just the right portion size for lunch, served piping hot. We just had to try the cakes on offer and was I glad that we did! The lightest, most flavoursome end to our lunch. If you are in the area, please go in there and try the food. Actually, make a special trip for their food, you will be bowled over by the quality and reasonable price. I know where I will be going with my friends for breakfast/lunch.... any excuse :)

Having worked in the area for many years it's nice to finally have somewhere decent to go for lunch.This old building has been renovated and they have produced a lovely cafe. Very bright and airy.The staff are friendly and helpful, I've not had to wait long for food (sitting in and takeaway). All the food I've tried has been spot on, presentation is great too. Had a slow cooked chicken sandwich today, gorgeous!Big highlight is the coleslaw, very tasty. They also have a very tempting range of cakes.

This place does a range of sandwiches and hot dishes that you can eat in or take away. They also sell home baking.The range is quite wide, with some inventive fillings/dishes - much better than most of the cafés in the area, which are more of the greasy spoon type.The décor is bright and clean with a splash of colour.The guy who served me was very friendly, and coped well even though they seemed a bit under-staffed for the lunch time rush.It's nice to see this historic building being put to good use - if you're in the area, give it a try!
