This lovely local has been taken over by 2 lovely local lads who are working so hard to make it a great local. There is live music on a friday , a fantastic and increasingly popular quiz on Wednesday and we had some of their yummy food last night. There were great burgers ( chicken and beef) , pub faves such as sausage and mash and fish and chips. We also sampled the gorgeous pizza, chicken wings and veggie or meaty nachos. Will definitely be back for more…

After having had some lovely meals at this pub we took the family… I didn’t know it had changed hands … very poor food, the meat was really tough could hardly get the knife through it yet alone chew it… bitterly disappointing

Booked a table online, response was quick, we couldn't fault the food decent portions and cooked to perfection, staff were so polite and accommodating will definitely go again

Four of us stopped her Saturday evening for an unplanned meal on our way home - service was excellent, drinks and food served promptly, good portion sizes and delicious. Wish we lived closer as we’d visit more often!

It's ok. It had a weird atmosphere though. My friend and I were seated right by the bar which was not as private as we would've liked but I thought it was temporary until we knew if we wanted to eat or not. We weren't anywhere near the rest of the people eating and drinking in there and ended up being really cold where they had sat us so asked if we could move somewhere a little warmer. They sat us in an even colder section even further away from everyone else and closer to the door. I felt a proper outcast to be honest. They were kind of friendly enough but quite keen on getting us to order straight away which got a little imposing. Quite expensive and I wouldn't say that the food was amazing. Nice but not amazing. Left feeling a little ripped off and very much an unwanted customer.

6 of us had booked for Sunday lunch for a family celebration. We were seated in a tiny room near the open door with no heating. Waited more than a 1 hour after ordering to then be told the wrong table was served with our meals. Waited a further half an hour to get meals. The food was inedible and we left to go to a nearby restaurant at 2.45pm.

Party of four for Sunday lunch. Service was really attentive and friendly. Though the food was excellent and piping hot it could have arrived a tad quicker.

Ownership has changed and so has the ambiance and most importantly the menu. The menu felt like going back 50 years. It’s early days for the new owners and I hope that the menu will improve. I think to charge £14 for macaroni cheese is too much. The menu is limited and not very interesting. The White horse has reverted to a pub and serving pub grub, However, early days, plenty of room for improvement. The staff are very friendly, efficient and clearly keen to do well.

The team at the White Horse are impeccable. Delicious high quality plates, great selection of wines and fantastic service. We'll keep coming back! To the team: thanks for a great evening!

The Whitehorse was always known for its good food. The new landlords are friendly and polite. The food was pretty good and the service was quick too. I wish the new team all the good luck.

After the change over take place this was my first visit which was yesterday for a Sunday lunch. The new management has done everything to please everyone in terms of service. The food was lush and the roast dinners are just delicious. The premises is also more tidy than usual.We will definitely come back with our friends.

Been to this lovely pub on and off many times through out my life. Its been changed hands many times and the food was not consistent. We recently went again and found out it changed hands again. But the new landlords look promising and they are very professional in terms of service wise. The food was good but can be better, we hope and wish the new owners have good trade in Westbury. Will definitely visit again after our holidays. Good luck !

WOW Amazing Staff, Awesome Food Highly recommend My partner & I decided to go out for food & drink & thought we'd give this pub a try Not been to this pub for quite a few years it has been taken over what a massive difference gone from being a average drinking place to a relaxing atmosphere We were greeted at the door by a lovely friendly lady who showed us to a table we were given a menu & ordered drinks, my partner had the fish & chips which was really tasty, while I had Ham, eggs, chips & salad which was outstanding so tasty we sent compliments to the Awesome chef, The menu is limited but quality of food is outstanding 😋 We will definitely be going back again in the near future & highly recommend a visit 😊

Visited The White Horse Pub after a friend recommended this place for the food and service. First impressions were excellent - from the outside looked very clan and modern and the same for the inside. We were greeted with a warm friendly smiling waitress who genuinely seemed happy in her job and made us feel very welcome. We were promptly seated and drinks arrived in good time. The manager/landlord was present and made an effort to speak with us and also made us feel welcome:) We decided to go the whole hog and have 3 courses. All food arrived in time and the quality was to a high standard. The steak was cooked exactly how I asked. Highly recommended - Food 5* Service 5* Surroundings 5* . Will defiantly be back.

We've been to the White Horse a number of times previously and it was excellent. We went yesterday for a Sunday lunch to find the menu very basic and nothing like the menu online. We arrived and were seated by a very polite waitress and waiter who took our drinks order. The new owner of the pub then proceeded to tell us the kitchen "isn't in good shape" which didn't fill us with much hope, but continued to order. There was a family relative or friend of the owner at the front entrance, shouting and clicking his fingers at the waiter/waitress when a customer entered - a very horrible way to treat staff and certainly not in front of customers. Our food arrived, cold, frozen Yorkshire puddings, pork chop (fat not rendered) rather than pork belly and the most over cooked beef we've ever seen. The vegetables were boiled to a mush. We politely declined the meal with the waiter (who again was polite and accommodating), paid for our drinks and left. We overheard the waiter provide feedback to the new owner who we didn't see again - no apology! We won't be back under these owners!

Booked a meal for Father’s Day. Arrived with both sets of parents, husband and 2 small children to find the White Horse Westbury closed. There was another family who had also booked waiting outside. Very annoyed! Shame if they have closed suddenly but they could have informed any bookings already made. There is no statement on the website, Facebook page or Instagram.

Visited yesterday for food and wine, having booked a table for 5.30pm for two, based on the high reviews received by friends and seen on Tripadvisor.However, very disappointed with the overall eating and customer service experience. Main meal of fish and chips was completely overcooked, with very small piece of cod covered in a mountain of batter.Home-made tartar sauce had no flavour.Tiramisu for dessert was equally disappointing - so dry.Service was also lacking, perhaps due to lack of training.When we raised everything with the Manager (Tim), he was both defensive and rude.No compensation offered and so ended up leaving the restaurant feeling that we had had very poor value for money.

Despite serving absolutely fantastic food from a first class menu (I’ve never had a disappointing meal here)this pub retains a neighbourhood feel and has embraced local community. Sometimes this means the service and food quality slackens, but this has never happened, with food and drink remaining top of its game and the service peerless and confident. The team has responded brilliantly to COVID with social distancing and excellent sanitisation procedures in place - I feel confident and secure coming here and recommending it. An absolute gem, long may it last!

Loved going here before Covid crisis forced the closure m. Was really pleased to return last week to find it back to normal. Had an amazing Sunday roast with great staff to add to the experience. Well done all.

Nuestra selección fue sopa de butternut, tarta de ternera y champiñones y merluza con cous cous con azafrán, berenjena y pimientos. Todas opciones realmente tentadoras para acompañar las opciones habituales de la carta, como por ejemplo croquetas de costilla o morral y platos principales de solomillo de ternera asado o pollo asado o ratatouille.La comida se sirvió con prontitud, estaba excelentemente presentada y tenía un sabor delicioso. On entering and finding hand sanitiser, gloves, and masks freely available we knew that everyone was taking the precautions seriously. Throughout our visit it was obvious that staff were cleaning their hands with sanitiser inbetween serving each table.The pint of Tribute was excellent and well kept. Little bottles of diet coke were my choice but reasonably priced.The menu was varied and comprehensive, providing us with plenty of choices of both starter and main courses, plus daily specials.When our food arrived it was very well presented and looked wonderful. It tasted sublime and was cooked perfectly, this was confirmed by my husband's repeated groans of pleasure as he progressed through his dishes.With the social distancing between the tables it actually made the whole meal experience even more enjoyable and relaxed.Well done to the whole team at the White Horse, we can't wait to be returning to try some more of your delicious fayre.

Visitamos el White Horse con un grupo de amigos para una cena de fin de semana y quedamos muy impresionados.El pub claramente ha disfrutado de un cambio de imagen de alta gama, con mucho roble y madera pulida y un aspecto muy elegante pero cómodo.Nuestra camarera fue muy amable y servicial, al igual que otros miembros del personal, y de inmediato nos dijo que sabían lo que estaban haciendo.Probablemente, el menú se describa mejor como 'inglés moderno' pero con algunos toques eclécticos (cebolla bhajis como entrantes) que nos llevaron a elegir un poco.Por favor, informe que cada una de una gama de entrantes y platos principales (la mía es una ensalada de vegetales asados seguida de pescado y papas fritas "apropiadas") era uniformemente sabrosa y bien presentada.El único inconveniente fue que nuestra mesa estaba situada al lado de un radiador que bombeaba temperaturas nucleares de calor y que nadie parecía poder apagar.Pero una pequeña objeción, sigue siendo un gran lugar para visitar.

Three of us not-so-young-ones, & one nephew, for an mid-week evening meal in celebration of a birthday. It was just what we'd hoped for (but isn't all that easy to find): a pub that felt a bit different & which provided a high quality meal for very reasonable prices. The food was great. The service was lovely. The atmosphere was distinctive. The welcome was warm. We seniors aren't vegetarians but we enjoy some of those options as part of the mix; the nephew is vegan. All of us hugely enjoyed what we chose, & found plenty to choose from. We'll be back!

Now they’ve tarted it up and it has new management, it’s actually not bad at all. A confusing and I suspect playful logo features a red donkey, but the food, and in particular the service was up to scratch. Nice local restaurant.

Excellent lunch with family in a (do we still say trendy..?) stylish gastro-opub on the High Street.No parking but we found a place fairly easily nearby.Staff are bright, friendly and helpful and the food is very good. We had sunday lunch options main course and dessert, with various roasts, good choise for theveggies and a nice fish dish - the fish of the day was rainbow trout fillet which was great though served in a deep trendy dish which was difficlt to navigate - the sauce was tasy but thin so most was left in the bottom.Desserts good too - creme brulee and mango sorbet.Only problem was the tinny and intrusive music which I requested be turned down - which it was a bit - though distressingly the very second the bill was paid the volume racked back up again making it imperative to leave...Oh well - Nothing is perfect.

We moved to the area a couple of months ago and have been here 4 times so far. The drinks list is good. The meals we've had have been very good. Our favourites have been the scallops with pea puree and a decent steak. Given that this seems to be the best restaurant in the area it would be great if their menu changed more regularly as it does as we're going to run out of options soon.Staff are lovely.

Hands down the best Sunday roast in Bristol. Can’t believe this is on our doorstep and we’ve only just been here. Visité este restaurante familiar súper independiente hoy en el último minuto con mi padre y mi familia de edad avanzada. Nos hicieron sentir muy bienvenidos y la comida estaba perfectamente preparada. También dieron la bienvenida al perro de mi papá, lo cual fue maravilloso. Lo recomiendo encarecidamente y sin duda volveremos.

Mi esposo y yo somos muy; ) locales habituales en el White Horse y siempre han disfrutado de la atmósfera amistosa, bien presentada, excelente comida y bebidas de origen local. Siempre nos hacen sentir bienvenidos y nos tratan más como amigos que como clientes habituales. Como tal, fue obvio cuando les pedimos que celebraran nuestro desayuno de bodas y la cena. ¡Estábamos tan encantados que aceptaron! Y no decepcionaron. La comida era realmente deliciosa como siempre, muy bien presentada, el servicio impecable y el equipo lo convirtió en un día verdaderamente especial para nuestros amigos y familiares. Entonces, solo queríamos agradecer enormemente a Frazer, Jamie, Paddy, Alice, Hannah y al resto del equipo por el día más fantástico.

Precioso pub / restaurante con un personal encantador, negocio familiar. Bajé para una boda y nada era demasiado problema, con el dueño a mano para asegurar que el día transcurriera perfectamente. Lunch, a glass of Prosecco really good. dog friendly in part of the restaurant and dog free in the rest. As a woman alone, felt comfortable staff friendly and welcoming, it would make a great lunch time meeting place for new and old friends

A friend has just moved to Bristol from S. Africa and we wanted to share a Sunday lunch that was suitable for two vegetarians and an omnivore.

Warm, friendly welcome. Nice tapas, tried about five dishes. Lovely lunch time bite to eat. Roughly £45 for food, two wines & two soft drinks. Very reasonable. Will visit again.

I wish all pub food was this good. My party of six all had mega food from a menu that is contemporary and delicious as well as being good value.

We came here as a group booking for a family members birthday and were really impressed. The service of the food was a little bit slow but I think this can be expected and forgiven when there’s a table of 15 people. The food was absolutely divine, one of the nicest roasts I have ever had. I would definitely reccomend coming here for a Sunday lunch! Pictured is the pork which was cooked perfectly but the lamb and beef were also ordered by members of the party and were delicious also.

New owners seem to be making a great success of this little pub/restaurant. Good atmosphere, good food which is locally sourced.

We chose to use the White Horse as a venue for a wake. It needed to be slightly different as we required the buffet to be vegan which can often cause some concern for chefs not used to producing this kind of food on scale. Firstly, I have to say the owner Fraser could not have been more helpful and understanding while helping us to arrange this event, which for us as the family, was under considerably difficult and sad circumstances. To add to the ease of the arrangements we were told that the chefs wife was vegan too and that this would be no trouble to organise. Also, as wakes are very difficult to calculate how many people may attend Fraser told us we would only be charged per plate eaten , amazing!. We had said that there may be up to one hundred guests but had no real idea as to real numbers. On the day there were at least 120 guests but Fraser and his team were not fazed and were fantastic. The food was superb and many guests commented on the lovely flavours of the varied dishes available but also had no idea it was vegan. To sum up, the stylish decor, the fantastic team that Fraser has working with him and the absolute professionalism in which our event was hosted makes it an absolute must of a location if you want to hold any private function at The White Horse.

A group of us had a birthday dinner there a few weeks ago. The staff were very attentive and both the choice on the menu and the quality of the food was excellent.

We visited The White Horse for a Sunday lunch family meal and came away very disappointed. First impressions were not good. We were brusquely shown to our table and after a while had to ask for drinks. We ordered the food and when it arrived the meat pie had no potatoes which was not pointed out when we ordered, it would have cost £4 extra for chips which would have risen the cost for this meal to £17. One member of the party had the salmon dish which was totally raw in the middle. When it was pointed out to the staff , the diner was told in front of the whole party that this was how it should be served, which was very embarrassing for the diner who knew from other dining experiences that the fish was massively undercooked. A replacement was given. This place is not cheap but the quality of the food does not live up to cost. However, on a positive I will say that the children's meal deal at £5 was good value.

This was a family gathering to meet our new grandson so we had a gathering of 9 .

We visited this restaurant during a weekend stay in Westbury-on-trym. We both chose the beef roast and it was delicious, as were the vegetables and all the accompaniments, particularly the roasties! Great service too. Will definitely return to try their evening menu.

We live locally and are delighted to see this place doing so well. We’ve visited as a couple on a number of occasions, with family and found the food to be well executed, good value and the service friendly each time. It’s well worth a visit.

The cod dish l had was one of the best meals I have eaten in months.The blend of ingredients and flavours was spot on and each aspect of the dish complimented the rest.

My partener and I returned after having a bad meal at the White Horse. Unfortunately won't be returning. Such a shame as Westbury is in need of a great place to eat. Head of house was very polite and tentative. The waitresses too much hanging out together and gossiping. However they are young.

My wife and I had lunch today (14.4.19) This was our second visit as we tried it for the first time a few weeks ago, we thought we’d try it again as the first time was so good and we were not disappointed as the food and the service were again first class. We will definitely be back again very soon

The second time we have eaten at the White Horse. Once again the food was excellent, with good sized portions, and excellent customer service. Interesting building as well. A very good place to eat, highly recommended.

Honestly couldn't praise this place more! The staff are fantastic, the atmosphere was so great and the food was phenomenal. Cannot wait to go back, have already planned my next visit.

As always, a fantastic Sunday lunch. Beautiful sirloin beef. Great vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. Service was perfect.

Fantástica comida y bebida! Vivimos en el extranjero y visitamos a una familia en Bristol la noche que visitamos este pub. Tiene un ambiente muy acogedor, con una gran selección de comida tradicional de pub inglés, ¡que fue excelente! ! Y el servicio fue excelente toda la noche. Me encantó y definitivamente volveremos!

Acabo de comer aquí con mi mamá; tuvimos dos cursos un sábado por la tarde por solo 12, y ambos fueron increíbles. Recomiendo encarecidamente el estofado de pescado para los fanáticos del pescado, y el pudín de toffee pegajoso también fue genial. El personal es siempre muy servicial y amable y el ambiente / decoración es encantador. Un buen pub

Fuimos allí a cenar, el ambiente era encantador, vibrante sin ser demasiado ruidoso. La comida fue absolutamente deliciosa (tuvimos una mezcla de entrantes y platos principales) y tenía un tamaño de porción decente, las bebidas eran agradables y todo el personal era muy encantador, acogedor y flexible. En general, es un lugar realmente encantador donde pasar una noche y comer comida deliciosa.

Acabo de cenar aquí, pedí el estofado de pescado y mi amigo el risotto. Mientras esperábamos disfrutamos de un par de cócteles. El restaurante tiene un ambiente informal y relajado y está decorado con buen gusto. El risotto estaba delicioso, pero desafortunadamente no me gustó nada el estofado de pescado. Sophie, que estaba cuidando de nosotros, vino a revisar nuestra comida y le expliqué que era "solo yo" y no el estofado. Ella insistió en conseguirme un nuevo plato principal, tallarines que fue genial. Ahora eso es lo que yo llamo un excelente servicio al cliente. Volveremos pronto, gracias.

This was such a lovely surprise. Great beef roast, tasty, good range of veg. The service was friendly and quick. The chocolate cream dessert was a particular highlight - really different and delicious. A great find!

Great local place to eat! Excellent and friendly service and definitely the best pub fish and chips we have eaten.

Nice Sunday lunch the only problem is plates are cold and also the food Yorkies cold and hard otherwise very nice staff. May be that they were very busy

Went here for lunch with our daughter after her 25th birthday and could not believe the quality of the food. I was expecting a pleasant enough lunch but the whole experience was truly wonderful. The staff had just the right amount of friendliness along with being totally professional. I had Venison and Chocolate Hotpot which was totaly unctuous easily upstaging the braised ox cheek i had the night before in a somewhat more expensive Bristol restaurant. My vegan daughter was catered for expertly by the kitchen staff. This is the first review i've ever posted, the reason for doing so is because I couldn't believe the quality of the experience. Will definately return, and hopefully soon.

We hadn't been in the White Horse for years but was told it was under new management & that the food was good. As we were in the area again we decided to try it and as soon as we walked in there was a good buzz. It was pretty full with mainly diners rather than pub drinkers, and we were immediately asked if we wanted to eat, and shown to a table. The staff were friendly and efficient and we had drinks and menus in no time. The wine was nicely chilled and reasonably priced and there was a decent selection of food on the menu. Between us we had Hangar steak (apparently excellent), fish and chips, and shepherd's pie served with kale. The only thing missing was a jug of gravy for the shepherd's pie, but we all enjoyed our meals and didn't have room for dessert.

This is a great local restaurant- interesting menu and excellent food. The shepherds pie is a particular favourite at present.

Really enjoyed our ladies Christmas evening meal. Lovely food, presented well, just the right amount. Great selection of wines, gins. Such friendly attentative staff, definitely eating and drinking here again.

We were glad to return to the White Horse on a Sunday now it's under new management.

Great for the best coffee, lunch and unusual ideas on the supper menu. Very welcoming a good place to meet for business or pleasure.

Este fue probablemente el peor asado de pub que hemos tenido, y sin duda el más decepcionante teniendo en cuenta las críticas de TA. Los budines de Yorkshire eran crujientes y de color marrón oscuro, casi quemado, y las papas tan duras que necesitaban un taladro neumático para cortarlas, y mucho menos un cuchillo de carne (no proporcionaban ninguno). El crumble vegetariano, el "sustituto" de la carne, era una extraña mezcla suelta de migas de pan y trozos de vegetales, y solo sabía de verduras. Enormemente decepcionante.

Solíamos amar al Caballo Blanco y estábamos muy tristes cuando caía en tiempos difíciles.

He visitado el caballo blanco unas cuantas veces y debo decir que esto es lo que Westbury necesitaba. Ahora bajo una nueva administración con un increíble grupo de personas que dirigen el lugar y comida sorprendentemente buena que viene de la cocina. Atrás quedaron las bebidas / gins estúpidamente caros y la comida es excelente. Todos los ingredientes de temporada y recién hechos. El Sheppard's es para morirse con una excelente copa de malbec. Vale la pena una visita.

Visité con un amigo un martes por la noche. Es bueno conocer al dueño y a su hijo. Creo que el nombre de los chefs es Kelly, que merece una mención, ya que su comida era realmente encantadora y muy bien presentada. Postre Caramac. . . ¡maravilloso! Definitivamente vale la pena una visita.

Super Sunday lunch .. 10/10 at a reasonable price. Lovely rare beef and vegetables cooked perfectly.

A fantastic place! We had a delicious meal on a Friday evening, great food, brilliant service and good atmosphere. Also a nice place to pop in for a drink!

This is the second time that we have eaten here, first a tasty Sunday roast and then the second time a Shepherd's pie. Both meals were very enjoyable. Very attentive staff.

It's great to see this place open its doors again. Westbury has been crying out for the White Horse of old to return.

So glad to see this local place re-open. Ate there yesterday and was very pleased, although the food (for me) needed a few tweaks the owner was very keen to hear our opinions which is refreshing. My wife and I shared a deep-fried whitebait with our pre-drinks, G&T; for my wife and a glass of Sicilian Cateranata for me (more of the wine later). None of those stiff breadcrumbed tubes here, nice batter and plump fish seved with a home-made mayonnaise - super. We then started properly with char-grilled padron peppers with whipped goat's cheese and sourdough toast (excellent, char on peppers perfect): broad beans with chive flowers and creme fraiche served with shaved ice; interesting mix but too cold (puree beans?) and ice melted and mixed with the creme fraiche to a rather watery mix - good try. My wife then had a lovely, generous piece of hake accompanied by a cold fennel salad. She loved the fish but she thought the strong fennel overpowered it (warm vegetable instead?). I had a lovely hanger steak (rarely seen since the demise of Town House) served with a jug of black garlic and peppercorn sauce which was lovely; served with chunky chips and mixed leaf salad (served on plate undressed , if dressed and served separately this would get 10/10). Finished by sharing a blackcurrant sponge roll with blueberry cream (bit more cream?).

The White Horse has only recently reopened and its interior has been remodelled which works much better. It’s also been given a more fresher look and the busy wallpaper has gone.
