Great value for money (with the Jan lunch promotion), lovely food, equally lovely staff 👍

After an awful meal a few weeks back, served cold and bland plus overpriced for a turkey roast with no trimmings, told the waiter, plates removed for 10 minutes had to ask for them to be returned, no apology or explanation. We had a lunch here today, service was chaotic, food poor kids meals were served without cutlery, as they had run out of forks, waited 5 minutes. No one serving behind the bar for a considerable time. Public were joking ‘is it self service’. Not sure what’s happened to The White Horse as used to be a great Pub and a firm favourite, hope it can resolve the issues it’s having, numerous locals have a similar view which is a shame.

Un postre fue Pera en salsa + Fue una broma que dejé el mío totalmente, se había usado “crema squirty”. todo el postre quedó sin comer. Me quejé en mi nombre y en el de mi invitado, indiferentemente acepté y ofrecí 2 bebidas gratis, pero nada fuera de la muy alta factura, era mucho peor que cualquier carvery básico y “ almuerzos escolares “ me vino a la mente. Los dos estábamos horrorizados, ¿un regalo de Navidad a un alto precio? No lo creo... Fue un insulto Nunca más

I highly recommend this pub to anyone looking for a great time! My university alumni UK group went there yesterday and we had an amazing experience. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was also very nice. I will definitely be returning to this pub in the future.

I recently went here for a Christmas do with my friends. It’s a lovely, cosy pub. The service was excellent and the food even more so! Would highly recommend to anyone.

Not sure if this place has changed hands, used to be great even only a few months ago, recently declined rapidly but decked out lovely for Xmas 🤷‍♀️

One of the local where we really enjoy a casual drink. We decided try food on Christmas Day and booked on Nov 2nd a table for 2 to come for lunch on 25th dec. As we arrived we were told our booking was non existant despite it being cleared a couple months before. Long story short, after much arguments that we were not walkins but had actually booked over phone, we were offered a starter/main/ dessert (with no choice of alternative to the dishes) of which we could only take the main - turkey roast due to allergy (gluten/ pate). It was the worst roast ever - clearly we were given the scraps- 2 slices turkey breast with a total of 3 whole Brussels sprouts and 3 half potatoes, and 2 piggys in a bath of gravy (where are the carrots/ parsnips, generally trimmings??? All other plates seemed way fuller than ours! And that’s is NOT a Christmas meal!). And the food was actually cold. Whilst we command the staff working on Xmas day, and their efforts trying to recover a missed booking, and appreciate we had a discounted rate (£41 if that’s seem like a good price for what we were served…) - what we were served was a disgrace and not acceptable by any standards, even at the price paid for. We will go back for drinks there but lost us as food customers. If you want a guaranteed booking and be served what you hoped for I would simply avoid! Shame as it’s a local. Took a pic of meal but google do not let me post!

We called in early November and had our booking accepted for Christmas Day. We specifically asked if any deposit, or anything else, was needed, to which we were told ‘No, just turn up’. To our own fault we should have realised that this was unusual, and followed up, but being busy we took the person on the end of the phone at their word, and accepted the booking as made. Today, we turned up for our Christmas dinner to be told there was book record of it, and that the pub does not take walk-ins on Christmas Day. We explained that we had made a booking, and were certainly not ‘Walk-ins’ but this initially fell on deaf ears, being told in a variety of different ways that it must be us that made the mistake, perhaps having spoken to a different ‘White Horse’, until we showed the phone number in he call history on the phone. Ultimately, what happened here is that we were told we had a booking which was not recorded. Today, the manager did accommodate us, however, as you will see from the photo, it was essentially scraps of meat and potato, and not what we expected from a Christmas dinner. The manager did, to his credit, discount the bill, somewhat, after we’d already paid for a bottle of wine and a couple of mixed drinks at bar prices, however, on reflection, it was a terrible experience. I’m starving, and have just ordered pizza on Christmas Day - something I’ve never done before and hope to never be in the position to do again.

My favourite pub in London!! The staff are so welcoming, the food is bar none and the atmosphere is so warm, welcoming and festive over the holiday season. Definitely come in on a Sunday for a roast and enjoy the magnificent Christmas decorations - don’t change a thing White Horse, you’re perfect.

Fantastic Pub! Especially on a Sunday! Food was great, live music was even better and lots of fairy lights during Christmas time. If you have a family or looking for something to get you in the Christmas mood The White Horse in Richmond is the place.

A lovely pub with great food and a good selection of beers. Music could be turned down a bit (unless you really really like the 80s hits at high decibels). That aside I'd go back again for sure

Really nice sunday roast, tried chicken lamb and beef. Everybody loved it

Disappointed and we've been coming here for birthday meet ups for a long time. Disorganized, and have to say got distinct smell of drains :( We were stood about waiting to be seated for 10 mins when we arrived, when the table reserved was right by where we were. Food came promptly and was nicely cooked, but after they took our plates, we waited another 30 mins before we we finally tracked down someone for pudding menus. At this point a large number of guests had left and their focus seemed to be moving the tables. Food in here is nice straightforward pub food, but sadly no longer a treat.

Lovely little pub in Richmond. Not far from the town centre. The food was lovely, we had roasts. My only complaint is that there could have been a little more food, or at least more gravy! Roasts should be big and hearty. Still, my wellington was delicious.

We absolutely love everything we eat here. If you’re feeling fancy, start with the padron peppers and continue with the ragu pasta and steak. On a quick week night, try their salad with chicken. It is one the best salads Ive ever had.

Had a quick bite and beer before a rugger match. Great burger menu, very pleasant atmosphere and ambience, staff were great and food perfect. What's not to like.

Fantastic pub and staff. The perfect spot for a big family get-together, with a good selection of drinks, delicious food and very comfortable atmosphere. The beer garden with gate to the playground next door was also a big hit with the kids!

Love that it’s connected to the park so when the kids are done playing you can eat or have a quick drink. Lime soda for 80p

Sunday roast. Great and traditional. Highly recommend…

As locals, we absolutely love the White Horse (so much that we had our wedding reception there a couple of years ago), but since the new ownership we feel like the service has really not been the same. It's way less personable than it used to be (which is surprising considering it used to be owned by a big chain but staff was amazing) and quite often feels a bit rushed/ overwhelmed - even when it's really not that busy. Having said that though, there has definitely been more events and improved atmosphere - and the food is always lovely. So hopefully this impression is just growing pains and service gets back to what it used to be :)

Agree with others who have said it's a nice enough spot for drinks, but in terms of food — quality, choice, price, etc. — there are dozens of better options in Richmond that are tastier, more inventive, and better priced. Charging £18 for sausage and mash, when for a couple quid more you can go to The Watermans's Arms in Barnes for what is practically a fine dining experience, is actually laughable. If you're gonna charge prices like this, people expect more. Gotta step it up in terms of food. Staff could also work on being more personable, especially to returning locals.

During our month stay nearby this became our local. So welcoming, good range of drinks and lovely food, especially Sunday lunch. The staff are attentive and friendly, and the decor and garden are first class. Quiz on a Wednesday, and live entertainment too.

Lovely location and atmosphere. Great outdoor space however we were extremely disappointed by the food in terms of price, choice and consistency. I am local so will go back for drinks but not food as there are much better options in the area.

I have not been here for over 10 years and I am so glad I went back. We got lucky and managed to snag a table for 3 and a dog without booking. Super friendly staff and excellent service. We all had roasts (beef, chicken and pork) and we all thought that these were up there with best pub roasts ever (massive claim)!!! Only one of had pud and the Sticky Toffee Pudding was ranked extremely highly. Lovely experience and will be back soon.

Nicely decked out pub with a relaxed vibe, friendly and welcoming service from the barmaid. Chilled out in the beer garden and sank a couple fullers ipas.

Gastro pub more restaurant than pub. Think it’s better than it actually is. Kid friendly. Gastro pub fare . I had the Burger with fries which were very dry and would have asked the “waiter”/barman for some but he disappeared and never asked if I needed anything else. He also didn’t check to see if I was happy with the food. The beer was expensive £6.90 for a pint the bill should have been £18 + £6.90 but they added on £3.10 for service which was not optional and I felt I didn’t get good service. Average won’t go again and I’m a Richmond resident.

This pub has recently changed hands and it might take a little while to get up to the old standard.

My son was back from Uni - (mini mini break) decided to treat him (he paid - I reimbursed him later - forgot got my wallet !!!) Lunch was Fab - and the service was even better - thanks to Sean. He was charming, thoughtful and helpful and his presence made the day PERFECT. He made us feel more than welcome - he had a relaxed and easy way about him - Needs to be promoted ASAP !!!

If you want to have a good night you can go this lovely pub you can have fish and chips with beer it is so yummy😋. i feel like i am in an English movie scene here😅 lighting is so relaxing.The Greek lady is so cute🥰 in deed all the staff is so kind.I was glad to be there.

Had a Sunday lunch with friends, including a small child. Food (chicken, lamb and duck) was all lovely, as was the ample kids portion of fish and chips. Staff were very friendly, and the service was very good.

I don’t really know where to start. The staff at this pub and the owners are absolutely lovely people. Me and my work colleague had the privilege of dining with them this morning. The food was fantastic. The staff are so welcoming and very friendly and had invited us to breakfast and a lovely hot drink. Very cosy place. Highly recommended. Went on a Sunday, was very busy which is usually a turn off as that normally coincides with slow, unattentive staff. But this was not the case. Staff were very friendly & chatty and always available to help at a moments notice. The Sunday roast was banging, with generous portions with very adequate waiting times considering how busy the restaurant was. Highly recommended

8 adults and 5 kids for a Sunday lunch in December - booked late and Zoltan was wonderful and got us sorted on the phone. Frazzled parents were SO well looked after by Viola and we did not feel like we were an imposition even though we brought our chaos. The pub was lovely vibes and the beer good. Viola checked in on us often so we weren't waiting around for drinks at any point and we were really pleased with the Sunday roasts, really excellent indeed. So perfect being right next door to a playground so the under 3s ran off their energy after. We were happy bunnies - thank you!

Visited this place for the fist time in 30 years, it has changed for the better. The atmosphere was great, a lovely family, a friendly place. I met my brother and sister there for a catch up. We did not eat but had a couple of drinks. The food is locally noted for being great and the staff are very friendly and attentive.

I found this establishment to be warm and friendly. Staff are so helpful and nice, food is excellent 👌 and on this day very Christmassy, would I recommend a visit definitely, a place to take good friends and family.

Went for dinner last week with 7 friends. The ambience was great and the new owner was very welcoming. I particularly liked the sense of space (and it wasn't noisy) ... but it still felt cosy. There is a quiet garden. The food portions were substantial and as good as any other pubs I frequent. I will go again.

I went for a lovely pre Christmas meal with 7 friends. The pub was looking really christmassy with all the decorations up. The food was delicious, everybody in the party finished all their food. We shared a couple of bread and butter puddings which where also brilliant. Wine selection was top notch. The staff where incredibly considerate and accommodating to us all night as well. I will be coming back for a roast after a walk in Richmond Park soon.

Vegan option (gnocchi) seemed like an afterthought a bit. Just gnocchi and blitzed squash, and yet in the same price range as non vegan dishes (£15). Which I think is a bit of a rip off - it wouldn't cost more than £1.50 to make. It would be nice to see something more imaginative. There's plenty of exciting plant based products to explore. Spent £110 on a couple of gnocchis and soups - definitely not worth the money.

The service was terrible and the person in charge Karen was so rude towards my son and also with her staff . in the beginning we thought she is the owner even if so she has no right to treat young people including my son like this . .We hoped the place will be better under new management .sorry but not and just ruined our evening yesterday night

The new menu is excellent. Accompanied by a clean drop of Guinness and delicious Castelet red wine the Pappardelle pasta and the bangers and mash with winter greens were delicious. Clean decor, good spaces and I hear that the Sunday Roasts are superb. Staff cheerful and an excellent luncheon all round. Many thanks

Been going to this pub for roughly 10 years. Lovely premises and dog friendly. However the chef changed around 2 plus years ago and the food went from absolutely wonderful fresh pub food (the best in Richmond) to completely awful. The menu is now expensive and portions tiny. The actual food is confusing and tries hard to be over gastro. The result is massively disappointing. No vegetarian or vegan options to speak of. They usually offer a small salad for £17 plus and it's insulting. If they could just fix the menu and go back to the hearty and beautiful food they used to do before the new chef joined, then it would go back to being the best pub in Richmond. I and most of the people I know are happy to meet and have drinks here, but we then go elsewhere to eat! Update: Just found out the pub is under new management in the last month so paid it a visit. They have a new chef and wow! Back to being the best Sunday Roast and menu in town! I'm so pleased and lots of vegan/vegetarian options again so it caters to everyone. Feel like I've got my local back!! I've changed my review to 5 stars now

The recent change of ownership at The White Horse brought anticipation for positive changes, but unfortunately, the dining experience fell short of expectations. The reduced menu left much to be desired, starting with the burrata appetiser that came with only two tiny cherry tomatoes cut in half. Other new dishes, like the gnocchi and the fresh pappardelle, really lacked flavour and the once-promising burger disappointed with an overly cooked patty and chips nearing a tough, stale state. A stark departure from the pub's former glory in delivering perfectly cooked burgers and steaks, this experience was, regrettably, incredibly underwhelming and given the price range, I would expect more. That being said, I have read recent reviews of some of the pubs managed by the new owners, and judging by that I do not have a lot of hope as they seem to prioritise “style over substance”. Only time will tell if our beloved local pub can reclaim its former charm. For now, I'll be enjoying my meals at the Red Cow, reserving The White Horse for drinks, and might give their food another chance if I summon the courage in the future.

Really friendly staff and such a beautiful pub. Decor, tables and seating just worked and was immaculate. Sometimes, you don’t appreciate the details but we did. And great choice of wine!! Thanks for having us. X

Nice food and good service, however , we ordered a glass of wine each with the meal, we’re asked if we wanted small medium or large. When we asked for a large, we’re told a large glass is the same as a carafe. When we came to pay, a large glass/carafe of Merlot cost £22!!! When we questioned this, we were told that many people had complained….yet they’re still doing this. Not great, feel totally ripped off!!

Daniela and the team were absolutely amazing. We didn’t have a booking and they accommodated all 7 of us and 2 dogs. I had the roast lamb which was sensational, and the ox cheek pasta and burger that my friends had were all really good. Could not recommend this place enough. Daniela was so kind, 10/10.

My sister and I had a roast beef dinner. Very salty gravy, the cauliflower cheese tasted funny, and the roast potatoes tasted sticky. The vegetables tasted lovely but ruined by the gravy. The beef was good too. Shame.

My partner and I have been going to The White Horse for dinner and Sunday lunch for three or more years. But we will not be going again after our experience last night. • Before we sat down to eat, I had to report to the manageress that the WC was without toilet paper. • The waitress tried to persuade us to have a carafe of Merlot wine when we had ordered 2 large glasses. She said it was "cheaper". When we showed her the menu which indicated that a carafe was the more expensive option, she put on a sulky face. Was she under instructions to make such a sales pitch? • The number of Main Course items of the menu had diminished since our last visit and two of the three meat items on it were unavailable (it was only 7.45pm). The only other meat option was a beefburger. We are not teenagers. The menu was heavy with vegetarian options, but these were about as expensive of meat options. (That is 'taking the Micky'/profiteering.) • I ordered a side-portion of "triple cooked" chips with my salmon & beetroot. I was delivered with a bowl of "fries". I reminded her what I had ordered. She 'argued the toss'. Eventually the manageress took the "fries" away. Eight minutes later a bowl of "triple-cooked" chips was delivered. By then, I had eaten half of my meal and my appetite had diminished. All-in-all an unsatisfactory evening and very unlike our previous experiences. We do not pay £40 per head for a two-course meal for such treatment. We consider that what we experienced was Fullers Brewery accountants, rather than its catering staff, establishing food/catering policies at The White Horse. That may bring in extra profit on the short term, but not in the long terms.

The menu is odd and very small with little to choose from, some of which wasn’t available anyway (different to website) The food we did get was poorly made and presentation was very lazy. Marinated tiger prawns had clearly never seen any marinade, they looked like they were taken out of the plastic packet from the supermarket, put in a bowl with some vaguely garlic flavoured warm water. No seasoning, no herbs and no attempt to present them in an appetising way. Radicchio salad was a small bowl of dry curled up leaves, with a few pomegranate seeds and walnuts thrown in at the bottom, no dressing and none offered. Burger was tasteless, dry and overcooked. Anchovies were clearly just transferred straight from a tin into a dish. Clearly the chef and presumably manager have no pride in what they send out. Any home cook could do 1000 times better. Such a shame that this place has really gone down hill. We won’t be returning in the near future and I definitely would not recommend it to anyone until they’ve found a chef who can and wants to cook.

We had a Sunday lunch here for my wife’s birthday. Never eaten here before but we’ll definitely be visiting again. The food, staff and the atmosphere were amazing. An absolute treat and well worth a visit.

I absolutely love this pub! The staff is incredibly friendly and always makes me feel welcome. The environment is cosy and inviting, which makes it the perfect place to unwind after a long day at work. Its also got a very nice covered outside area, which is equipped with heaters, making it a great spot to hang out even during the colder months. Whether you're looking for a place to catch up with friends, have a few drinks, or just relax, this pub is definitely worth a visit. I highly recommend it!

Customer for years, coming with my son. The staff has always been exceptionally welcoming, they saw my kid grow and even offered cuddles over time. The food is amazing, the burger with brisket is to die for.

I visited last night with 7 friends. We all had roast dinner at around £20 a head without drinks. The meals were very small 2-3 half or quarters of potato. 1 carrot 1 parsnip. I counted 8 peas on my plate and had a teaspoon of greens. Not acceptable even if there is a cost of living crisis veg is not overly dear. Wish I had thought to take photos!

We are a walking group and 8 of us booked in for a Sunday roast. We were unable to get a normal chicken roast lunch as the chicken is sold at £48 er couple. Three of us wanted chicken so we decided to share ,….. probably the smallest chicken in the world ! We had tiny portions of veggies … 1 carrot 1 parsnip 3 small roast potatoes…. We had to ask for Yorkshire puds which should have been included. £16 a head for a small roast dinner is somewhat expensive …. I prefer to have chicken breast carved … not a wing or thigh or leg. The other roast dinners in my group were all small … we were hungary again soon afterwards. Service was good but the Fullers pub could have afforded some extra veggies !

Another pub hidden away in Richmond that I have never been to. I visited on a Sunday night near to closing time so can't really review the place in it's fill glory. However, the pub was a nice find. Lots of people laughing and enjoying the last hours of their weekend. I would come back on another night to get a proper feel for the place.

This is a beautiful pub in the backstreets of Richmond with a great atmosphere and very friendly staff. The drinks, snacks and starters are served very efficiently and are always delicious! They have a very varied and seasonal menu with loads of delicious options (vegetarian and not). I started with the babaganoush and hummus flatbread which is an amazingly delicious small snack incase you aren't very hungry or waiting on someone. Then i had the steak of the day which is succulent, flavourful and stunningly delicious. It comes with a perfect peppercorn sauce and a delicious side salad that pairs well with the steak. It makes a great family dinner place on mother's day or father's day and for a Sunday Roast. Would give 6 stars if I could!

I've been coming to the pub for the last 20 years. The cooking has been very varied. Fortunately the new kitchen is really good. The food is very well presented and more importantly, darn tasty! I've booked a lunch for the 28th to give myself...
