The Orange Tree Hotel in Richmond upon Thames

We had arranged to meet for drinks, but made the mistake of meeting on a day when there was big-screen football, so it was very noisy. The staff were quite helpful over a move from the table we had reserved. Drinks were fine, the tables are kept clean, and the pub seems bright and characterful.

We always visit here when we come down to watch rugby. The staff are always lovely and helpful. We were here with good friends. Nice to sit outside as well as the weather was warm.

We had a swift but excellent supper before going to the theatre next door. Great service. Delicious food. Highly recommend!

We visited The Orange Tree on Easter Sunday. We had roast dinners which were delicious. One of our party members has coeliac disease, and we were informed that usually the fries are gluten free, but on this occasion they weren’t, which was a little disappointing. However, the staff member was very thorough in checking this. There were also only 2 members of staff on shift when we arrived at 12:30, through to 2:30pm. For Easter Sunday this seemed a bit strange; the service was extremely slow. We waited so long for our plates to be cleared that we stacked them ourselves in the hope it would prompt some action. When there was finally some action, they cleared half and left the rest. We had to go up to the bar to initiate any contact with the staff - for them to come to the table to take our order/to get the bill.

Expensive for what it is, understand the price of beer. But the chips were £5 and took 40 minutes to arrive, with a handful in a small metallic cup.

Had such a great impromptu meal last night - amazing food, fantastic service from a super-lovely lad, Michael - THANKS SO MUCH! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Orange Tree and their staff really helped our 28-person school party feel welcome. We flew in from Canada and they made space for us making sure everyone was fed! The rest of the pub is great too, lovely beer on tap and solid staff. Thank you!

Very good food, freshly made, busy but not too noisy in the restaurant area, service friendly and attentive to detail if a little slow because busy. Overall a happy experience.

Booked here very last minute prior to heading to Richmond Theatre. Really classy, attentive but relaxed service, and the food was honestly some of the best 'pub' food I've tasted. We preferred the mains to the starters, but the mains were honestly soooo good. I was gutted to have to finish my meal haha! We will 100% return. Lovely people, really, really good food and very reasonably priced.

I visited Richmond with a friend after a walk along the River Thames from nearby Kingston. We had been to a couple of other pubs in the town but wanted somewhere quiet and relaxing for a late lunch. My friend ordered a traditional roast and I had the nut roast ( which I was very happy to find out was 100% vegan). I have to say that this is the best nut roast I’ve had. Mostly they’re a disappointment. My friend also said hers was the best roast she’s had in a long time. Our food was served quickly and both with generous portion sizes. Very friendly staff. Will be coming back. Thank you!

We are currently staying at this lovely pub/hotel and enjoyed a delicious dinner here last night. The grilled king prawns were really delicious and my husband enjoyed the lamb and broad bean pie. Our server Nicole was delightful and made us feel very welcome. Although the restaurant was quiet, the pub itself was very busy and so the atmosphere spilled over.

I have been using the Orange Tree for many years as a pre rugby match lunch venue. This is the first year I’ve had reason to complain. Firstly the prices had been greatly reduced, (Although reduced nearer the date) The sharer menu was fine, but sadly let down by serving the steak on cold plates and whilst the steak was of good quality, it was barely luke warm, and the wedges could have been cooked a little longer. Finally it was disappointing to run out of the very nice Rioja Reserva after just one bottle. Please get these attention to detail problems sorted as it’s normally such a great day and location. The above comments were raised on the day. The response was to remove the service charge, which was a little sad to think that the waiting staff possibly missed out on reward for something that was not their fault.

Half a pint of lime and soda, I think they said it was £3:80 !! - I’ll check my card payment tomorrow to see if I dreamt that - (it did come with a slice of lime, some ice and a paper straw).

Lovely pub, the atmosphere was awesome. Went in to watch the football and it felt like home from home. Food and drinks first class too

Absolute 10/10 from every single aspect. The staff were so accommodating, polite and friendly, the food was gorgeous and everything so so reasonably priced. We had a very difficult request (vegetarian and gluten free!) and the staff did everything they could to cater for us, with zero huffs and puffs, just friendly smiling faces! Thank you so much for a lovely family Sunday lunch!

We are a group of friends that meet at the Orange Tree every month. The pub is welcoming and all the staff are amazing. Beers and wine are excellent and the food outstanding. Some in our gathering are disabled and I am pleased to say that there is full disabled access and loos.

Really good food and friendly staff. Only reason it's not 5 stars is there were a few strange bits. I confirmed the table was for 3 upon arrival, and the barman brought us to a table for about 8. My request for a specific table had also been ignored. We did say we could move if the larger table was needed, and were told they'd have to check with the manager, and then finally we were asked to move. Our water was forgotten, and the waitress was clearly new and very nervous. She was lovely, but there was a lot of awkwardness. Nonetheless, really enjoyed the meal and wine. Would definitely come back.

We were looking for a Sunday afternoon pint and a roast We found a pub where no one was interested in customers. We ordered drinks on the app and waited 20 minutes. Only came when asked at the bar. We ordered food and waited 30 minutes (it wasn’t busy) for them to bring out entirely different food. We ordered a mushroom wellington, we got a nut roast. Imagine if we had an allergy! When questioned, the staff acknowledged the app didn’t work - so please desperately turn it off. At least then the poor service at the bar could explain the menu. Pub was also freezing on a Sunday afternoon. Everyone sat in their coats.

A chain pub with more atmosphere than normal. We had the burger and sounwhich was very good.

Always love this pub, but the 2 beers we wanted were off. The music playing was much too loud, which made everyone shout at each other so we only stayed for one drink.

The Orange Tree was the ideal venue for our after-funeral gathering. We had use of the spacious back bar where tea and coffee were on hand and delicious sandwiches were served. Staff were very accommodating, the cost was reasonable and our guests felt very welcome after the sadness of the funeral.

We had our work Christmas Party at the Orange Tree on the 13th December. It has become our regular place for Christmas due to the easy location, delicious food, and great service. I think this was our 6th or 7th Christmas Party at the Orange Tree and once again, we had a great night.

Went here on a Saturday. Guinness served in Brooklyn glasses. Music obscenely loud. Every table was dirty. Grim.

Food was not great, I was served a mcdonalds style burger for £16.50. It is not to the standard of other youngs pubs.

Warm and cozy christmas atmosphere, great food and nice staff. Totally recommendable for christmas dinner, probably for other occasions or a simple pub night as well.

Christmas lunch for 37 guests. Fab atmosphere, staff are friendly and attentive - food was excellent. Great communication prior to booking. Shout out to Jacklyn who couldn't have been more helpful and lovely!

Perfect room, perfect location. The hotel is very close to the underground and railway station. The city in general is one of the prettiest districts of London, with a lovely park and great pubs. The service was very good except for a slight delay in check-in due to a Christmas party going on in the pub which the hotel owns. The breakfast was very refined, complete and authentic. Although the pub is on the ground floor of the building, and our room was on the first floor, the room was very quiet.

Never been spoken so poorly by staff. We asked to sit at a table, unaware it was the restaurant. It was as if we’d asked the most ludicrous question they’d ever heard. It wasn’t particularly busy and there were plenty of places to sit. Totally unnecessary. Very unwelcoming.

Pub was lovely and cosy and food was brilliant. We actually were not on time to our booking due to a delay at work, and yet the staff could not have been more accomodating. Nicole in particular was really communicative with our group and looked after us amazingly all night - thank you so much!

A good lively pub to watch rugby on a Saturday afternoon!

I booked here to stay as I was travelling up for work. Unfortunately I was ill so the room was not required, I emailed apologising and requesting to cancel at 09:00 in the morning. They confirmed the cancellation but advised I would still be charged for the nights stay. I responded advising I wasn't very well due to new medication I had taken whilst recovering from a life threatening illness and I felt ok the day prior (cancellations needed to be done by midday the day before stay). They have ignored this email (4 days ago) and the follow up email I sent 2 days later. I still have had zero response but they have now charged my card for the nights stay. I checked in the evening and my room had been booked out as they were fully booked so no incone had been lost. I will never book stay with this place again. Terrible customer service.

Good food, friendly service but lacking organization and experience

We had our baby sprinkle at The Orange Tree and the staff bent over backwards to make the event extra special. They were so warm and friendly and really made us feel welcome. The food was tasty but expensive as you don’t get much for your money, but it did a job as everyone was catered for.

We came as a group of 18 for Sunday lunch on 19th. I wish I could remember the names of the two girls who were my 'go to' for the afternoon because they were fab! It's not easy finding a great place for that many people but we did and everyone had a really good time. Thank you!!

The food is always exceptional, and beautifully presented. The staff are the jewel in the crown for this gem of a hotel and pub. Nicole and her team are so helpful and welcoming, and go above and beyond to accommodate your stay. The most friendliest of places to stay, beautiful accommodation and food. Home from home.

Location: it doesn’t get better, 20min train to Waterloo, ride the district line tube and easily connect to picadilly and bakerloo lines. The station is across the street. I’m never staying in a cramped central London hotel again. BRILLIANT! HOTEL: as an American who travels globally for self owned businesses. Is a bed princess, a foodie, and someone who expects value in location+appointments+service this establishment delivers truckloads. This is fabulous Victorian hotel, all tasteful refit with big nods to the aesthetic off which it was built, with forced air heating/AC and storm windows (to insulate original timber glazing) bathrooms are sleek, spotless hard surfaces everything, and tasteful. I would have loved to have a room with a claw foot tub by the bay windows. Decorating and refurbishment is top shelf. In other words, they did not tear out all the beautiful woodwork, flooring, and bar to paint it all grey and put granite and harsh lighting in. It’s warm, inviting. And the rooms are just lush for this price and location. I’ve worked as the valet/doorman/concierge/get you anything from anywhere person at a 5 star and stayed several times at the Mondrian London. With kids, this is a no brained. PUB: it’s great. This is a small local chain based in London that refits inns and old hotels. A lot of these places are doomed to become buffet carveries or local pub-inns with abandoned lodging bc they can’t afford to refurbish and oft end up being Greene kings. Vibe is perfect, quiet breakfast, lively lunch, bustling after-work drinks, after dinner: lights dimmed with a good mix of pop from the last 40 years. It was bumpin on a Wednesday night. This is my go to stay when I’m traveling in/out/around London. 20 mins to car return terminal 5 Heathrow. This feels like I’m giving away a secret. Kid and dog friendly. They set us a up a cot with real bedding for our 2yo. Staff is polite and bend over backwards to help beyond their jobs worth. Local knowledge is freely shared with enthusiasm. 5* couldn’t say enough good things. Cons: lumpy pillows and duvet. I have come to expect this in 95% of Europe so no marks taken. It is a walk up but 3 upper floors only. Call and ask about the rooms they’re all different. We got a great corner with sun all day

We stayed at the Orange Tree Hotel while staying in Richmond last week and everything was absolutely impeccable. The food was amazing, the service top-notch, and every staff person made us feel welcome and at home. First we had a delicious breakfast, my husband had the continental and loved the fresh bread, jams, cereal choices and yogurts. I had the poached eggs and soldiers and the toast was the perfect crispness and they were poached exactly how they should be, slightly runny and delicious. I can drink endless amounts of tea and our server and receptionist, Kyle, was right there fillling my tea pot the minute I thought of it. We were also here for evening pub trivia and drinks, which was a blast, excellent beer selection and just great hosts with super-friendly personalities making the evening such a fun treat and great way to end our trip. We will always choose the Orange Tree when visiting Richmond.

Always a great spot when the rugby is on

Came here with friends for some drinks and food and we couldn’t have asked for better service from Phoebe she looks after us impeccably! We used to come here all the time but had a couple of rough experiences last year so stopped, but after hearing they’d had a change over in staff thought we would give it a go again and we are so happy we did! Will be back soon!

Very disappointed in the staffs attitude and service. I come to the orange tree often with both friends and family and have always liked and enjoyed coming to this pub until about 2 weeks ago. Me and my friend came for drinks and had a very unwelcoming and rude experience with the staff. I’ve noticed a big turnover of staff of which are very badly mannered and unprofessional. I didn’t recognise the new staff member but when serving us, she acted as if we were bothering her and intruding on her conversation with her colleague. We left after one drink as she’d been staring at us the whole time. It made us feel extremely uncomfortable.

21/9 I was charged 46 quid for 2 beers on contactless not noticed till at home. Complained next day to Nicol who said she was a manager and would look into it and call back in 30 mins. 3 days later still waiting. Left 3 more voicemails but no return call. Added to this a Youngs pub with no ordinary butter on tap?! Lesson learned always ask the bar staff at this pub for a paper receipt or risk being ripped off. After responding to my review I am happy to say that I contacted the Orange tree and they have now made a full refund. I look forward to my next visit but hope the ordinary bitter is back on !

Fantastic atmosphere, Meet up with a couple friends and we had phenomenal cocktails so many gins to choose from, they had really good music a total vibe for all types of music lovers. Super friendly, fun team very attentive and helpful. Food was delicious, defo coming back to try the brunch menu 😍 We will defo be back soon !!

Popped in on my way home from a dog walk, Jay was so lovely he even gave us a dog bowl of water. The front garden is gorgeous in the sun and a great selection of beers as well!

Honestly some of the worst customer service for a private hire in hospitality history. To respond to tap water with indifference, not offer suggestions for food, not have any clue about how to pay at the end is beyond ridiculous. We would have ordered so much more if it wasn’t so difficult, they just didn’t care and every question or request was met with a lack of care.

Take care if booking a table! Not good. Initially booked a food table for rugby intl day. Then needed to change it. Tried to call and email pub- no response. Website offered a 'Pub Drinks' option in the booking menu on website so cancelled initial table and rebooked this for an earlier time. Got the auto texts on the day before asking if still wanted table. All good. Then got a call later that day saying there were no tables available. That was that. Nightmare. Too late to rebook anywhere else. Despite only just cancelling original booking seems that table no longer available. Didn't go to pub so no idea re food or atmosphere.

Disappointing. Average at best. Veggie burger and fries was ‘ok’, but no slaw or small salad bits to brighten it up. For 16.95. Mushroom tagliatelle had very few mushrooms, they kindly brought some some more. For 2 such simple dishes, flavour and presentation is key. Felt like they had done the minimum. Service was fine, pub server did his best. With so much competition for our wallets, should try harder.

We stayed at the pub last week and had the best experience! The staff is amazing and very helpful. We had Sunday roast and breakfast the next morning which both were delicious. We will definitely be back and highly recommend staying here if you are in Richmond.

If your in Richmond looking for some expertly poured drinks and a relaxed atmosphere this is the definitely the pub you want. I pop in with a friend whose extremely picky about how her Guinness is poured and according to her "this is how it should be done." so Jakub is definitely the bartender you want if your a Guinness fan, as she spent about half an hour praising his skills. I myself was feeling for a cocktail and if this is your flavor, you should ask for Ethan. He made me his own signature cocktail and I can honestly say it was hands down the best cocktail I've ever had! It's a lovely pub with helpful and friendly staff so both of us shall be returning. 5 Stars All Round At The Orange Tree!

Amazing afternoon watching Wrexham AFC win promotion to the English Football League after an absence of 15 years. Staff are really friendly, accomodating and the atmosphere great. Love this pub - the space, lighting, colours, real ale. Highly recommend.

Sooo good. The Sunday roast dinner complete with Yorkshire puddings; 2 very large ones, horseradish, perfectly cooked fresh veggies, roasted potatoes and cooked to perfection, medium rare roast beef. My most delicious English Roast beef dinner. Tender meat and tasty compliments made this a delight to a rainy day PS the service was simply amazing. Was seated promptly, served a warming cup of tea and the meal took minutes to arrive and yes the place was hoping. Kudos to both the kitchen staff for a great job as well as Nicole and Sebastian for their attention and service at the front of the restaurant. Thank you!!!

Great food & fabulous service. We went with 5 adults and a 2 month old and we were given a generously spacious table with plenty of room for a pram. I also felt super comfortable breastfeeding here which isn’t always the case when eating out. We will absolutely be back soon!

Atrocious! Worst pub experience. Arrived at 11am and the guy took our order for food. After waiting 20 minutes he told us the they won’t start cooking until 12pm. At 12:20pm they still hadn’t started cooking and proceeded to tell us they didn’t even have what we ordered. We then had to change the whole order. Long story short, we then waited another 40 minutes and didn’t get served until 2pm. Waited two hours for food, not to mention the food wasn’t very good.

We had a really disappointing first experience of visiting The Orange Tree, especially having had great experiences when visiting other Young’s pubs locally in the past. When we arrived at our scheduled time stated on our booking confirmation, we were told that there was no booking under my name. We were then told that there was a ‘backlog’ of bookings and it was not the pubs fault. I received no apology and we were made to feel stupid for thinking we were able to book a table on the same day. We were told we could find a table in the busy bar area, where the football was being shown, but we decided to leave due to how we had been spoken to by the staff. I don’t understand why we wouldn’t have been informed that there was no capacity to seat us before arriving at the pub? I have sent an email to the pub to share this but have not received a reply.

Great pub - good range of beers - handily located and spacious

We came in on a Sunday for a small bite to eat at about 13.45. We ordered drinks at the bar and a portion of chips and a bowl of soup. Unfortunately, for these 2 simple items it took 35-40 minutes to come to us. When it was served to us both the wife and I laughed at the bowl of soup that only had about a 1/3rd of a bowl. So i sent it back and asked for a full "bowl" of soup. The wife had finished her chips before my soup came back 10 minutes later. The young server behind the bar could clearly see that we were getting agitated at the long wait, but clearly did not care. This is not somewhere that we will return to.

Definitely a place I would go for a pint. However on this occasion I passed in for a bacon roll and a cup of tea. It was early around 9am and it was very nice. Only thing was over £10 for a roll and a cup of tea is a bit much considering you can have a full English at this establishment for £15. I think I missed a trick there. Anyway good facilities and lovely staff
