Had a lovely time here, good absolutely delicious and the staff are so friendly. Really recommend this lovely pub

WOW!!!!! We LOVE this place! The food was amazing!!! Not your average pub food, this was ELEVATED pub food that could have come from a 5-star restaurant!!! And the service was very friendly and helpful! Our table had the fish and chips, mushroom risotto, house burger, bangers and mash, and the pan seared duck breast. I like duck a lot .. and this was THE MOST TENDER duck I have EVER EATEN, it was delicious! And the bangers and mash were excellent .. all the food was excellent!!! For dessert, I truly and honestly licked the bowl!!! I'm not big on sweets but the chocolate cremeux pistachio sauce honeycomb ice cream dessert was probably the best dessert I've EVER eaten! No joke and not exaggerating. At the time is this review, they were serving their Autumn Menu. All around the room we are in had people's times and dates of their channel crossing, we meet 2 people who had swam there channel! I hope that we will be back in Dover someday, I would love to go back and eat there again! ... and of course the beer was excellent too!

Friendly service, but took a while for the food to arrive. Excellent fish and chips, and sausages and mash, but the chowder was not great: too thin, and potatoes were undercooked. The table was sticky. A bit expensive.

Had a really tasty burger and best chips I've eaten in a long time. Inch cider on the tap was a bonus too. Will definitely visit again when I'm in Dover.

The bartenders Rose and Sam made me feel welcome at once, they foster a cheerful atmosphere where strangers like myself can come in and enjoy great drinks and wonderful food. The pub itself is a lovely old building, which is a breath of fresh air in these days where lots of older buildings shed their historical feel for a more sleek modern look. Being directly under the hill where dover castle is sulituated, it is ideally located for lunch after visiting. An old pub like the white horse is the exact type of place i was looking to find in england their efforts should be comended.

Unfortunately very slow — took 1 hours to serve a single fish and chips. It wasn’t even good? And was £17.95. Terrible.

Ok. I hate to leave a low review, but I don't appreciate being lied to. First off, it is a charming English pub. The staff seemed very friendly and drinks were good. In fact our burgers were quite good as well. So, what is my complaint then, you might ask? Well, when we first arrived at about 5:45 PM, even though the place was not at all busy, we were told they had no food left except pizza and burgers. They said fish and chips were unavailable. We were disappointed but decided to order burgers. Well, when I went back for a second beer to the bar, I noticed one of the ladies behind the bar quickly shooing away the other who had, lo and behold, in her hands, two big plates of fish and chips. It was obvious she did not want us to see this. Now, by this time, we had already been there well over 30 minutes and, only one couple came in whilst we were sitting there and sat in another room. Were the fish and chips for them because they were friends with the staff?Everyone else had already cleared out. So, why were we told they had no fish and chips or anything else except for burgers and pizza? Our burgers took a very long time to make, by the way. I noted that someone who was most likely the cook had time to stand around behind the bar with the two ladies working there as well. Also, no fewer than 4 other couples came in after we arrived and were told they were completely out of food. They left. I did not feel those entrusted to work this pub are doing the owner right as, most likely, these young people were hoping to shoo away customers so they could go home early for the evening. If, by chance, the owner was present, I predict he will be out of business soon if he doesn't learn to value and take care of his customers.

Nice pub, it's a shame it doesn't say anywhere that there's nothing to eat at 7pm.

Bangers and mash are the best I have ever had !!! Desert recommended by the bartender ( chocolate whisky pistachio crème was amazing !!) I could eat here daily and not get my fill. HIGHLY Recommended , Dover required visit !! You can’t go wrong at The White Horse Pub !!!!!!!

We stopped off for a quick pint before we had to check into our guest house, the atmosphere was lovely and the staff we cheerful, so we thought we'd pop back for food once we had checked in. When we went back it wasgetting busy, we ordered a pint and got chatting to the lovely barman. We unfortunately didn't get his name but you can't miss him, he has tourets and was a breath of fresh air! He recommended some food which we had and wow! The chef is amazing from starter to pudding, which I don't normally eat, was amazing. The prawns were massive and very tasty, the burgers were succulent and sooo tasty, the chips were lovely and crunchy too. The pudding was out of this world! I would definitely recommend a visit not just for the food or the friendly staff but people that swim the channel write on the wall with there times it took them, which was very interesting to read. Worth the 5 start rating

Both the food and the service at the white horse were great! The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, with low volume music in the background in the evening. We had the fish & chips and a beer - came out to ~£42. I would go here again, and maybe even sit outside! For my vegetarians, there were options (no vegan options), but to be clear, there was a limited menu the day we went, so this may not be representative of everyday.

Always visit here whilst in Dover. Just sad they only serve pizzas as food these days. Still a great, interesting place to visit.

Cracking old pub just between the Ferry port and the Town Centre. Lovely people, lovely food and a nice choice of beers. No loud music or shouty people. Perfect for a quiet dinner.

Slightly strange as they were about to stop serving food at 7.30, I'm glad we just made it. Lovely risotto and homemade fish pie. Very quiet whilst we were there. Parking on the street nearby.

You absolutely cannot beat a warm smile, and feeling welcome...plus the Timothy Taylor Landlord was superb even after its long trip from Yorkshire 😁 I wish I lived nearer.

I was having a short trip in Dover. I came here yesterday, but it was already closed. So, today, to kill some time before my bus back to London, I just popped in to this pub for a short time. And I was absolutely shocked and amazed by the bartendress here! (Her name is Claire ❤️) I’m quite a shy person, but the next moment after I came in, she made me feel so comfortable, that I ordered several drinks and had the nicest evening in years! 😂 And the beer was damn good (I don't drink every day, I can distinguish), try the light blue, the local one. Claire not only made me feel at home, but provided the best bar service I’ve ever had so far, and I’ve been to a hundred of cities in the UK and have never had such a warm attitude, in London you’ll never experience anything like that, for sure. She made the last hours of my journey absolutely joyful and amazing! To the pub: you should definitely appreciate her; To all the travelers: to visit this place is a must in this city, trust me, no regrets ;) 10/10 experience 🤗

Did not know it had changed hands when I booked heard So many good . things about the White horse but I found it just a pub selling Sunday lunch that wasn't that good. warm potatoes and cauliflower cheese with not much cheese at nearly £16 for lunch and £8 for cheese cake I don't think I will go again

we were not even seated as it was Sunday and we had kids but that is not the problem. the owner was aggressive and was kicking us out even though we were already leaving on our own. DO NOT GO. thanks a lot i did not mention when i came and i also did not say the owner was "chasing" us out i said kicking us out

Nice pub located near Old St James' Church. with good selection of ales and really friendly atmosphere. As a complete stranger I was asked to sit with locals and staff at the bar. That never happens in London. I only regret they didn't serve food at the time I was there. But I got restaurant recommendations from the bartender. If I'm ever in Dover again I'll definitely visit again.

We are 3 stranded Aussies. No trains on Boxing Day (thanks for the heads up) and Steve and Stu were awesome. There were so helpful , trying to ring Taxis as there are no Ubers. The boys were so helpful. I wanted to stay and drink beer all night but they have to close at 8pm. Only had the one quick beer. Thank you lads for being so helpful. LEGENDS!!!

What a warm welcome we received when we went into the White Horse pub. Every single person in the pub spoke to us at some point in our visit, it was so nice. Our food was really tasty and filling. If you are visiting Dover don't just sit in your hotel room, get yourself to this hidden gem with lovely people and food.

Wir hatten hier sehr leckere Fish& Chips. Das Bier war auch gut. hier kann man eine Zeit verweilen. Leider hatten wir einen sehr unangenehmen Tisch welcher sehr wackelte und eig zum Essen zu tief war.

Brilliant evening. Unrushed service, arrived early and table was available. Had drinks then ordered. Menu is small but good varied selection and everything was delicious and generous portions. Wow! What a great place. Greeted right away. The staff were friendly. Food was delicious. The Beef Stroganoff was some of the best I’ve ever had. The local lager they had was unique and great. After you walk the cliffs stop here for a great lunch and a drink.

The nicest staff, delicious food and great atmosphere. Called us cabs to the cliffs, the. Great suggestions when we couldn’t pick our dishes. They are very kind and attentive. This is the second year in a row we’ve visited and will always come back!

Die Küche hat leider nur 2 Stunden am Tag geöffnet. Hatte einen Tisch reserviert, aber keine Chance dort zu essen, weil die Küche innerhalb von 30 Minuten schließ, was mir erst kurz davor gesagt wurde. Kleine Auswahl an Getränken und ziemlich teuer.

Wir (2 Erwachsene und ein Kind) waren spontan dort. The White House verstrahlt eine super Atmosphäre, wie sie wir uns gewünscht hatten. Chef war superfreundlich und hat uns einen Tisch für 1,5 Stunden angeboten, weil sonst alles reserviert war. Ich wollte ein lokales Bier... und das war dann superklasse!!! Chef kam und gab uns von den beiden Bieren erst mal eine Kostprobe! Wir hatte Chickencurry und Tacos. Beides rasch, warm und lecker sehr feundlich serviert, mit extra Teller für Sohnemann, damit der mitessen kann, was er will. Für 2 Hauptspeisen, 2 Bier und 1 Liter Wasser fanden wir die 34 Pfund voll gerechtfertigt. Können wir zu 100% empfehlen!

Im sorry but I was told there were no more Yorkshire puddings for my topside of beef meal but then 30 mins later the people behind me had one. No pud = no good **update - I got £2 off my meal so adding another star ***update 2 - oooof. Got a snarky reply from the owner so bye stars. The waiter literally said that there were no more for the rest of the night which I understood so imagine my shock later when the table behind got one. Why didn’t I get offered one then? The only reason I got money off in the first place is because we heard someone in the bar area go “uh oh, looks like we have a negative review”. So if I didn’t leave the review you would not have offered me my £2 discount

Loved this place! Even though it was fully booked Stuart the owner got us in somehow! I had the Chicken Curry and it was so good I ate a few bites before I remembered to take a picture! Definitely worth the effort to visit!

Tidy, traditional pub, perfectly situated between the castle and the town centre. Friendly service and a very nice pint, at a decent price for the south coast.

Delicious food with great service. What a fantastic gem. So much history in this place, and it overlooks a blown up Normandy church from WW2! Random but incredible. Couldn't recommend highly enough. I came with my father who said it was the best burger he'd ever had. I had the veg stew and it was unbelievable.

Probably the nicest pub I found in Dover. Had a decent pint of Harvey's Best Bitter. Locals a lot friendlier than the ones I ran into at The Eight Bells. Toilets were clean.

Everything a good British pub needs. Lovely people, good beer and delicious food. The chicken curry was nice and spicy but not to hot. The sausage were very tasty with a hint of sage, and the batter of the cod was thin light yet crispy. We had a great last dinner before leaving the UK. But be quick before the landlords say goodbye and book a table (recommended for a saturday evening) before it is too late.

Very good food,the chicken stew was really nice the mash was creamy/buttery . And the scampi and chips which my partner had was lovely, crispy chips and moist scampi.The customer service was very good.

Booked a table for 4 on Friday June 30th. Unknown to me 3 more people were joining us as a surprise for myself. Staff were in on this surprise and were so lovely and accommodating. Food was really good, well presented, good portion size, hot and definitely very tasty indeed. My brother in law from Scotland said it was definitely the best pub food he has tasted. Atmosphere in the pub was happy and cheerful. Service from our waitresses was excellent. So very pleasant, efficient and organised. Thank you to all of you for a really good evening.

Went for lunch with my friend. Food was good. Not necessarily as good as expected after reading reviews. Dumpling was very tough, and pudding could have been better (fruit crumble). Service was fine and staff friendly.

This is my second meal here this year; I had their burger which was amazing - I highly recommend it. Today (fathers day) I went with my Dad, Sister and niece to have the fabled Sunday roast. I had lamb, which was gorgeous. In fact all four plates went back clean. Yet again the food, service and atmos was fantastic. Well done guys, we'll be back...

Wonderful pub, great charm, service and wonderful food

Great pub in town with a nice friendly vibe. Visited on a Monday lunch, which was convenient as lots of other places were shut. Called a few days ahead to make a booking for 6 of us and a dog, easy peasy. Friendly and welcoming when we arrived. Drinks were cold and food was hot, as they should be. The fish and chips in particular were a standout. Overall a perfect place for a relaxing drink or food with a group.

Toller Pub! Das Essen ist bodenständig und lecker. Das Personal ist sehr nett und freundlich und das Ambiente sehr schön. Besonders ist, dass sich dort an der Decke und den Wänden sehr viele Schwimmer verewigt haben, die den Ärmelkanal durchschwommen sind.

Had a wonderful Sunday Roast today the Beef , Lamb and all the Vegtables and Yorkshire puds was cooked perfectly and the Banoffie pie was delightful.
