The White Hart at Maulden in Central Bedfordshire

Just had our Christmas dinner, wow! It was sooooo nice, plenty of good quality food, my only fault.... the crumble and ice cream was too small! Will definitely be going back! Well done to all the staff today they did an excellent job! 😀😀

I went at 6pm or so, didn't need to book and the staff were lovely. We tried the steak and chicken (with harissa sauce) which was amazing. The staff were attentive and by the time we left (about 7:30pm) it was bustling!

Our tennis group chose The White Hart at Maulden for our Xmas lunch always a challenge as 23 people all trying to eat at the same time can be a problem even when you pre book menu. Our experience was brilliant every course was a delight as were the staff and the facilities I will be back for lunch or dinner in the very near future

I visited recently for my office Christmas Dinner, the food was amazing and the service was brilliant, I look forward to visiting again.

Great welcome, with a proper countryside pub feel. Knowledgeable & friendly staff. Menu reads well. Starters arrived (table of 6) presented well. 2x blue cheese fritters, 2xgoats cheese, 1x duck terrine, 1x fishcake. That's when it changes. The candied pecans & blue cheese fritters were soggy from the amount of water on my plate from the washed lettuce garnish. Goat cheese bon bons were more like large golf balls literally hand molded which were shown some form of garnish. Terrine was bland & ice cold & the duck resembled meat paste. Mains were just as hit & miss. I hardly ate my pork dish, braised belly was tasteless, tenderloin was overcooked and dry, mash was lumpy, Luke warm with no flavour(not even of potato) crispy bacon in the creamed cabbage was not crisp but fatty & chewy. It tasted like it had been cooked in skimmed milk rather than cream & not seasoned. The griddled venison (x2 med rare) wasn't cooked properly to start & where it had been sliced & sat under a heat lamp had dried up & disguised with sauce, so bits of the meat were better than others. The Seabass fillet was a good size & well cooked, but it's garnish was a let down, mash potato which dominated the plate was the same all round. The other 2 mains were ok and enjoyed but with the same comments that although the plates were supposedly hot the food didn't seem that hot and the meat seemed dry. Desserts were ice creams all round & it was nice, presented simply you can't really go wrong!

Excellent lunch, the fish and chips were a touch above the norm. The fish was fresh, the batter perfect, and the chips were crispy and tasty. The apple and cinnamon strudel was very tasty and light. The service is excellent. It's a long time since we last visited this restaurant but we will be back soon now we've rediscovered it.

generous portions of delicious food. I had the steak burger which was chopped steak with little fat. My friend has the Belly pork which was a huge amount of meat and also delicious. As was the Malibou pear pudding. The restaurant was well attended (only 4 seats not occupied) and the service excellent. Its a bit of a hike to the loos but they are spotless. The only negative was the black coffee which I did not like.

Love this place...go once a month! The Sunday roast is good value for money, local meats used, lots of fresh vegetables. Great wine list! Good wholesome freshly cooked foods.. just love it

Not been to the white hart for years Lunch here today as we’d heard good things Friendly and speedy service Goat cheese bonbons and a squad & chorizo starters Good Goats cheese needed more of a rustic / toasted bread for us with perhaps cranberries instead of grapes? Squid good too, chorizo was finely sliced in a pile in middle (it thought it was pickled red onion for a moment) I’d have dotted it as crispier chunks through the dish Chicken supreme main very succulent and keenly priced The beef wellington and dauphenoise was pricey but superb (like one of the best I’ve eaten) - good value therefore, I’d definitely have that again Decent vino No room for pud £115 with tip Worth it I thought

I honestly can’t big up the White Hart enough. My husband and I visit this wonderful restaurant at least twice a month because the service and food is amazing. The staff are so attentive and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. We absolutely love it here! But yesterday, when we didn’t think we could be any more impressed, I was blown away by the service, food and careful attention to detail from this amazing team. I held a baby shower for my daughter here. From discussing and agreeing the Afternoon Tea themed menu through to putting everything together yesterday, I was so happy with everything!! Holly is an absolute superstar at putting an event together, and she did so with such enthusiasm and attention to detail. I cannot thank them all enough for making this such a special day for my daughter and son-in-law. Whether you are looking for a romantic meal for two, a larger gather with family and friends or a special event I couldn’t recommend the team at The White Hart more!! You will not regret it!!

The most delicious, hot, perfect roast was thoroughly enjoyed by all 4 of us. Perfectly cooked variety of veggies, tasty moist chicken & lamb, crunchy roast tatties and big fluggy yorkie served with a red wine gravy. No room for desserts! Lovely ambience, friendly staff and a beautiful building.

Had an amazing time at this pub celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary with our family. The food was brilliant. Our daughters dairy and gluten free diet and grandchildren’s egg free diet was well catered for. The staff were very friendly and one lady stood out as she played with the grandchildren. Will definitely return here when we are in the area again . Thank you 😊

The food was absolutely delicious, staff extremely attentive and friendly especially the head chef, they clearly all take pride in what they do. A very rare treat nowadays.

Wonderful all round - booked last minute for a small group gathering. Very pleasant blend of contemporary and historic with low ceilings and beams with modern feeling decor, lovely atmosphere but still able to chat easily. A solid menu with reasonable choice and a few interesting twists. Food was excellent, particularly the maple chilli glazed pork tomahawk, portions were healthy across the board, particularly the cheese board which was well laden with plenty of good cheese as well as lovely accompaniments. Even the coffee (mocha) was stand out from any other decent coffee you get reliably in most places, and rounded off a very enjoyable meal. Service was also excellent, welcoming, friendly and attentive staff without being intrusive. We all had 3 courses including steaks, with drinks and a coffee which came out around £55 per head, which for the quality and quantity was reasonable enough. All round very impressed and would unequivocally return, as other reviews suggest the Sunday lunch is equally high quality and good value.

Absolutely first class. Both the service and the food were excellent. We had just spent two weeks in the South of France and I don't think we experienced anything there better than this venue.

We arrived for lunch on Thursday 22nd August, with some friends we hadn't seen for 14yrs. So it was a lovely reunion lunch, as they had been living abroad. They were blown away by the look of the pub inside and out, and when we all tasted the food, we couldn't believe how delicious it was. Our compliments to the chef! The service we received was impeccable! The atmosphere was buzzing, even though it was lunchtime! We couldn't have chosen a better venue for our visit and all thoroughly enjoyed it. We will definitely be back!

We just love it here. I think this was our 4th visit and every time it is consistently fabulous. Lovely, friendly staff, who really enjoy working here and it shows. Emily was lovely and we enjoyed our chats with her especially, they all have a great sense of humour too. The food was divine, two of the family had the sea trout and I had the pan fried chicken. We all said it was one of the best meals we had ever had, and what an absolute pleasure to have hot plates. If you are having a dessert the apple and cinnamon strudel is to die for and such a generous portion. Cannot praise our evening enough, Thank you everyone.

Late lunch on a quiet Saturday. Our welcome was fine. We ordered wine that was brought unopened to the table with no offer to open it or for us to taste. Having asked for another minute to choose our food we were left unattended for quite some time. The food was as good as ever. Having declined dessert the waiting staff then seemed to disappear and I had to get up and ask at the bar for the bill. The young lady seemed less than happy to assist but did so without a smile or acknowledgment. Whilst the food was good the over all customer experience was definitely below par.

Arrived by 12.30 on a Friday with plenty of parking. Excellent, clean decor with tables a good distance apart, giving privacy. Excellent waitress, patient and kind with ready answers to questions. Food superb - we only managed a main plus ice cream. We shall visit again - soon.

Perfect pub experience, amazing food, great service with friendly and knowledgeable team, sadly didnt catch the name of the 2 waitresses, but both were great. All round a lovely night, 4 of us came to dinner and all of us walked away very happy

The main I had was roast cod fillet which was excellent and ample. The service was cheerful, polite and prompt. We'll be back. Well done.

2nd time I’ve had the risotto here and each time it’s been really tasty ( especially the pea, asparagus and mint) and super hot. Tried many meat and fish dishes also and never been disappointed. Always enjoy the food here & would definitely recommend.

Had a Sunday dinner here at 4pm. Was concerned as there might just be left overs but plenty of tasty meals to choose from.

Went there to have lunch. I thought for size of portions food expenses. Staff very friendly good selection of beers.

We visited on an sunny, mid-week afternoon at 14:00 and were met by a sigh from the member of staff (A ‘Lady’ wearing glasses and with a conspicuous accent - we didn’t catch her name) when we asked if the kitchen was still open. After checking if this restaurant does in fact serve food she informed us yes… Due to it being a lovely day we asked to sit outside which we were abruptly told no…which was a shame since days you can eat outside in the UK are few and far between. The member of staff was so unaccommodating we decided to leave and head to the George down the road which proved a much better decision as the food and staff were lovely there! We wouldn’t recommend the White Hart at Maulden as this isn’t the first time we’ve experienced a frosty and substandard service. The food isn’t particularly great either.

A lovely, old pub with great interior and great food, with lots of choice. Service was a little slow but it was busier than I expected at lunchtime.

Went for Sunday lunch as a group, the service was good but the food was very average, a pile of veg with 3 types of meat, the pork I saw the beef and lamb could have been anything, no taste! The Yorkshire pudding was a large stodgy mass with no crispness, the roast potatoes were not all all crispy and hard in the middle gravy was bland. The bill came and we all paid by card and although the total of payments made were the same as the bill including the tip, they were saying it was £10.40 still to pay . Finally after showing them our maths, they blamed the computer, hmmm not sure I believe that. Out of the 8 only three thought the food was value for money and no one liked the Yorkshire pud or the roasties!!

A happy find. Unexpectedly excellent food in a village pub, off the beaten path. Early on a Thursday evening, the small bar was popular, with a friendly atmosphere, and the main dining area to the right of the bar had a sprinkling of customers. We choose to sit in the additional dining area to the left. Some interesting menu choices and the food was really good quality. We we presented with two bhajis on a mint sauce as an appetizer as we looked at the menus. To start, I had the baked goats cheese and my wife had the blue cheese fritters. Both were delicious. For mains, my wife had the seatrout fillet and I had the Woburn estate venison. Both were superbly done. Special shout-out to the jus served with the venison! Service was very good too; friendly, helpful and attentive. We booked this at random, as a place not far off our route home and were not sure what to expect. It was a pleasant shock to find such a great culinary experience. I can't wait to return.

Enjoyed a fantastic meal this evening. I ordered the Beef Wellington, and it was probably the best piece of red meat that I have had for a very long time; tender, succulent and delicious. Great atmosphere and excellent service and at a fair price for the quality delivered. 10 out of 10 indeed.

A beautiful place to visit. The staff were very polite and courteous. Everything was clean, well organised. We experienced the buffet that was organised for following a funeral. The food was absolutely outstanding.

Went for Sunday lunch at 1:30 visiting got the first time and the restaurant was busy yet service was very friendly, good and quick. Water and a tasty appetiser was provided straight away then drink orders were taken. The very nice good quality food followed with friendly attentive service yet not rushed.

The pub I learned to drink in 45yrs ago. Lovely to revisit after all this time. It's changed, very much for the better. Four well kept cask ales of which I tried three of them before time ran out. Looked to be a good selection of lagers too. Staff all friendly and smiling. I will return to dine there too, very soon. So far, highly recommended.

Lovely village setting in a nice, olde world period building, for a special occasion or romantic meal out. The food was really tasty, and beautifully presented. Appetisers were a nice touch. Not the cheapest (but where is these days) but excellent quality fayre, great service and good communication over the booking.

Absolutely loved this place! Went on Sunday and had the roast chicken and my husband had the trio of roasts. The food was fantastic; truly one of the best pub roasts I've had, and excellent value for money. When we got home I rebooked for the following Sunday! We brought our dog with us who received a lovely warm welcome, and the garden was a lovely area to sit with him.

My sister and I took mum here for a Sunday roast. It was gorgeous- plenty of it (almost too much!), well cooked and a variety of veg. Couldnt fault it. Lovely pub restaurant, nicely decorated and with the sun shining in the back door on our table, it couldn't have been a better experience. Staff were helpful to our elderly mum, suggesting step-free routes and offering assistance in manoeuvre to the table. It definitely demands (earns) a return visit to explore their lovely menu further!

One of the best - and most consistent - gastro pubs in Bedfordshire. Exceptional service from a young and enthusiastic team, where nothing is too much trouble. Best of all, it is independently owned. Bookings on Friday and Saturday evenings, plus Sunday lunchtime are advisable. Doggos are made so welcome, too, not just tolerated.
