A lovely friendly pub and good real ales on !

Due to be staying at the hotel this evening and booked a few weeks ago. We got a call this morning advising us that there was a function booked at the hotel with disco until midnight and our room was directly above the function room. Really poor and inconsiderate service not advising us earlier or when we booked what the situation was. Not impressed

It has a great old style pub atmosphere we had a drink after a brisk walk it also had an open fire. There are lots of walks nearby in one of Britain's most historic town/city's I would recommend it

Nice local in Arundel with relaxed atmosphere with regulars. No food available but Harvey's beer although I had Guinness. Nice real fire to add to atmosphere.

Another average Arundel pub that's perfectly adequate but nothing to write home about. Small outside terrace to the side though quite shady. Harveys on tap but no craft beers

This is a proper English pub where the locals actually talk to you and make you feel welcome. They do not do food, just drink. It has a lovely side garden where you can enjoy the atmosphere and discussions.

Proper local pub with good ales, a pub dog, the odd bit of banter and plenty of different characters popping in for a quick pint. Fantastic fire in the winter, excellent beer garden in the summer. You may find yourself having conversations with people who have had far too much but I suppose that's a risk at all pubs.

Pleasant staff and nice atmosphere with log fire and traditional features. Excellent local beer. Only drawback is it doesn't do food and closes 9pm weekdays.

It's nice enough for a local pub there's nothing wrong with it, it has an outdoor area, beer selection is poor though.

We visited the pub and found the staff very welcoming, the interior is very nicely done, our only criticism is the toilet facilities could be better.

Fantastic little pub. Very very attentive & lovely waitress which really made our visit that extra bit special. Outside area is lovely under the wisteria on a hot summers day.

Had a lovely day in Arundel, decided to stop here for some drinks, only stayed for one drink as we were so appalled. I lit a cigarette outside and ashed it on the floor, a lady abruptly came over to the end of our table and moved our ash tray with force in front of us, she was towering over us and spoke to us like we were children. She said In quite a condescending tone “darlings, do not ash on the floor, ash in the ash tray that’s what it is for. I actually clean this garden”, she then walked off inside sat at the table in the corner and begun to speak about our group. They was all turning around and laughing at us. We felt so uncomfortable we left and quite shocked at how she spoke to us. We wouldn’t of minded if she was polite but she was so rude we were quite upset; for her to then laugh about us and tell her friends what she had said in a way where she was almost boasting she had told us off we were appalled. We absolutely did not want to put any more money into the pockets of the pub as we were unsure if that was the owner or just a staff member. It solidified the stereo type of people from Arundel in our minds as we have heard that they can be quite rude. We are very upset and it ruined our day, we will not be returning to Arundel again.

The young lady that saw to us in the garden was well on the ball. Very enjoyable hour.

The pub looks nice but the guy working in there is not nice at all. Felt unwelcome and uncomfortable also the sticky table and the dirty floor didn't help. You could also hear the pipes all the time that someone was going to the toilet:( Arundel is full of beautiful places this isn't one of them... avoid if you can.

Great lovely pub and fantastic Ambience. We managed to obtain the last sweats slimline tonic water rather than this Fever tree nonsense which with hidden fructose sugars. I’m ketogenic so this is really important to me.

Cheap pints. Not a big selection of beer, but it does have a nice outdoor area.

Lovely little pub just by the bridge, popped in just for drinks and a lovely friendly lady served us. Great selection of beers and wines. We didn’t eat on this occasion so can’t comment on food.

Perhaps we should have come here for a drink first rather than the Swan as the drink prices are better! It's a lovely pub with a good choice of beer and friendly staff - thanks for the laugh Sarah - we'd definitely go if we were in the area again and try the food this time.

The white hart in Arundel is one of many pubs along the main street but it is always the one we return to. With efficient, friendly staff and great food we are always going to choose this as our favourite.We tend to go on a Sunday so enjoy the Sunday roasts with all the trimmings and an extra jug of gravy. It does tend to fill up with bookings in the restaurant but you can usually find a table in the bar area which is just as nice.

We popped in here after dinner and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, a chat with the locals,the log fire and a very warm welcome from an exceptional friendly young lady behind the bar. We need more Pubs like this

Great pint of Harveys Best, nice old school pub.

They didn't do food , well not on the day time we visited but said we could go across the road bring in fish and chips. We had one drink outside under the pagoda covered in Wisteria so very pretty but was a bit chilly so came inside for our next one the lady behind the bar was chatting to us about the previous bank holiday it seemed to have locals in there swell as us visitors nice pub.

We stopped by with our dog for a small coffee in the sun, we stayed there for a while and it was very enjoyable! The place is nice, with a great view, although it's a bit noisy due to the cars passing by behind!

The White Hart is a great pub for meeting friends and enjoying lovely Harveys beer.It has the best wines at the cheapest prices in Arundel.There is always a fire to welcome you in the winter and the staff could not be more friendly.It amazes me that people like Steve give a terrible review when the pub was not even open.The pub does not open until midday. Before that the staff are busy cleaning and preparing for the day.

Been a while since I had a drink in the White Hart, joined by two friends both were drinking Harvey best which is not a favourite of mine but they both comfirmed it was in excellent condition, I had the Old Dark Ale which was very flavoursome. They have a good throughput which is always a sure sign for ale drinkers. We did not eat.

Taking a trip out with friends , relatives & whilst waiting for the 24 other members of the group to arrive ( caught in the usual traffic Jam for a Monday morning 6th Aug 18 ) upon entering the White Hart i was greeted by stares from a rather threadbare bearded type behind the bar & an elderly gentleman in front. The place was empty for 1130hrs , ideal for the group.I said nothing as I awaited the usual cursory greeting from behind the bar. Nothing was said and they resumed their conversation. I was in urgent need of the toilet facilities so made my way to the back. Upon returning I i came upon a kindly attractive lady whom directed me back to the bar.I was on my way out to direct my group into the White Hart when I sensed the hungover gaze of the tramp behind the bar. I returned the look & was then informed I was F***ing rude. I chose not to react , appogised & left amazed at this sub zero customer service. I couldn’t recall one other occasion in my extensive travels to have experience such degenerative behaviour, not even in the poorest of locations.The group then proceeded elsewhere as I informed them there was a possibility that the white hart Arundel was a substance abuse facility where the proprietors were using to much of their on product. We spent in excess of £290 at the Black Rabbit before taking a relaxing walk around the castle in the sunshine.

Had an absolutely top notch Roast Pork here a couple of weeks back. Like a homemade sunday dinner should be. We will return without a doubt.

Arundel seemed very busy so we ended up in this pub on our walk back to the car park having tried to find a table in several others. We had an ok meal of lamb burgers which took an age to come and on first sight both the bun and the wedges looked overcooked and a bit too crispy! However it was tasty and we both actually enjoyed it with the generous serving of mayonnaise. The atmosphere in the pub was not hugely pleasant though as it was geared more round men watching horse racing on a large TV with lots of talk with "colourful" language!

Arundel is a regular haunt of mine; it's history and aesthetic beauty often manages to lure me into it's embrace. I have eaten at many of the local selection of Cafe's, Restaurants and Pubs - some very good, and some....let's just say not so good. The fayre on offer at the White Hart has been somewhat hit and miss, and occasionally non-existent!

A small group of us wanted to watch the Six Nations Rugby. The White Hart couldn't have been a better place to go. Harvey's best on draft and exceptionally helpful staff. We mentioned being a bit peckish and the land lady duly brought out free plates of chips! Nice move. We'll be back!

Called in for nightcap on way home at 10.45 on entry we were greeted with you've only got 15 mins, when seeing Harvey's bitter I could have downed Two !! Manager was very stressed and give his due apologised for outburst to some other customers!

Popped into this friendly pub for a quick drink and noticed a sandwich menu. Being rather peckish I decided to order the pastrami sandwich. It arrived quickly and it was simply delicious! Accompanied by lovely homemade coleslaw, a small salad and good quality crisps it was a meal on its own. Definitely recommend and will return.

Just popped into this nice Arundel pub frequented by very friendly locals and have just had the most delicious sandwich.......virtually a meal because it was accompanied by lovely home made creamy coleslaw, a crunchy salad and excellent crisps. Will be back!

Un pub encantador en la hermosa de Arundel. Hemos estado dos veces para comer el domingo en las últimas semanas. Buena calidad y variedad - 3 asados además de faisán en una visita. Selección de cervezas y vinos por copa. Picar la comida del domingo en el bar y una crepitante chimenea excepcionalmente situado en el medio del pub. El bar y el restaurante son dirigidos por separado así que usted paga para las bebidas en el bar y la comida en el restaurante. En ambas ocasiones el restaurante máquina tarjeta estaba descompuesto así llevar algo de efectivo, aunque hay un cajero automático en la calle!

Aparecimos aquí en el camino a la estación de tren, pero acabé parando para 3. Un agradable pub acogedor con un gran chimenea de leña en el centro de la habitación dando un aspecto cálido al pub. No tienen una enorme selección de cervezas lager, pero lo que tienen están bien cuidados y que compensan con una gran selección de vinos. El personal era muy amable y atento.

Nice Sunday roast. I had a pork one (£12.90). Abundant portion of meat, plus coliflour cheese and boiled vegetables. The roast beef was good as well. Plus, the service was very good and friendly. I loved the fireplace!

Not much more to say really, bit worried about going into it as it seemed a very high end restaurant pub, how wrong could I be!

I haven't been for a while, but when I was their it was warm welcoming pub.And near to all the beautiful places of which only Arundel can offer.

A great traditional English pub mine host James and his team work very hard to ensure that everybody in the pub enjoys themselves. Besides some excellent Harvey Sussex beers the wines on offer are sold at extremely attractive prices which cannot be beaten at any other pub in the area.

Hi visited this place with a group of friends and was disappointed ..Few people had the carvery that didn't look great as quite often happens although generous sizesAnd they all claimed them to be average . And a few people ordered off the menu the queue was very slow and food was very sporadic and slow in coming so the friends that had ordered carvery had finished and it took ages for other plates to arrive . The food off the menu was fairly good although reasonably expensive and my girlfriend paid £20 for a steak that had a large amount of fat compared to meat .. To sum up I wouldn't choose this place to revisit but I wouldn't avoid if the need ever arose without other options

i have eaten here many times, inside and out. The staff are friendly and helpful. The food is lovely with big portion sizes would highly recommend and will visit again soon!

We were in Arundel fir the morning and decided to stop of for lunch but we wanted somewhere on the water. By chance we saw the restaurant from the toad and what a wonderful delicious surprise. 2 of us had the burger and it is huge! But excellent. My hubby had s steak and ale pie which he thoroughly enjoyed. We sat outside in the sunshine next to the river. A lovely afternoon.

There is a Restaurant tucked at the back of the White Hart called Mama Al's Diner. The food they produce is consistently excellent, with a variable menu depending on the season. Good portions and good value, served by really friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommend.

A Harvey's pub - inside very charming and cosy with a great fire. Beer was pretty good- Best and Armada on tap- would have been nice to have maybe one more for choice- I love their Old Ale personally but not sure whether it is available at this time of year. Sat in the courtyard garden which was lovely in the sun and sheltered from any cold wind on a sunny but brisk March day. The food side of the pub is run separately- you pay for drinks at the bar but food is table service. From what we tried I would say the food is very good. Mussels to start were nice, my main if lamb steak and lentils was brilliant. The menu and specials change daily. Not cheap, but reasonable and I would say good value given the quality of the food. We walks round Arundel and all the pubs seemed expensive for food- I would think many are serving pretty standard food for the price- this place is however a cut above and overall great. Whether stopping for a drink or two or for food I would recommend without hesitation.

Had an absolutely superb meal here at Mama Al's with excellent service from the waiting staff. The food was delicious and portions were huge....the starter was almost the size of a main!! Managed to polish it all off though...yum. :)It's unusual that the pub at the front is separate so need to go to the bar to get drinks, but it had no impact to us and our enjoyment of the evening. The pub has a lovely atmosphere and an open fire...superb on a cold November night.

My work colleagues and I all had a Mama Als Burger today and they are amazing. So thick and juicy, a proper home made Burger and cooked to perfection. Delicious, all polished off with some chunky chips in the side. When the Burgers were served nobody wanted to speak, we all just ate. We will be back for more.

Popped in for a drink after a ramble across the fields from Littlehampton. Great spot for a nice pint! Nice nibbles and pork pie on the bar. Not usually a fan of pork pie but this was really good. Probably locally made.Came back for a roast late afternoon. OMG it was probably one of the, if not the best roast I've had in a pub/restaurant. The meat (pork and beef) was cooked perfectly. The veg was fresh and crisp. The staff were really friendly and helpful.If you go to Arundel for the day/weekend, you have to come here.

Mama Al's Steakhouse & GrillAttached to The White Hart pub in Arundel.We both had the Sunday Roast Beef and have to say it was one of the best roast beef lunches we have ever had. The beef was really good quality, perfectly cooked and generous servings too. The gravy was very rich and tasty. The yorkies were perfect and the vegetables were all nicely cooked and perfectly seasoned (I didn't need to use the salt and pepper pots) this is a very rare event.A highly recommended eatery that I would happily return to. My only criticism is that the food couldn't be ordered with the drinks as the kitchen is a separate business to the pub. Would have liked to run a tab for drinks and food together.All in all the quality of the meal and service compensated so I would definitely return

We went out for a night without the kids and needed someone not as a chain or as a simple fish and chips place and this fitted the bill!We have two brilliant tasty well cooked platters and the service was just friendly and as good as you can get!The food was so tasty and the quantity and quality is well worth more than the price charged! The food was fresh cooked, succulent and my meat platter had more than I could almost manage (and that's saying something)The choice of food was excellent and not a standard pub offering, the pub (a separate business) was well stocked with ales and wine and I will be heading back soon (without the kids and the car!!)Well done for a nice alternative venue and food to die for!

I knew the chef at The White Hart some years ago when he had his own bistro in Tarrant Street. He was then lucky enough to be offered a position at La Trompette in Chiswick.My daughter and I wanted lunch a couple of weeks ago, and, having not been to The White Hart for years, decided to go as there was parking outside. I chose a beef burger that came beautifully cooked and presented, hand made and shaped, with crisp golden fries and a small leaf salad. My daughter chose the ribeye steak, again perfectly cooked, pink in the middle. I remarked at the quality of the food, far superior to usual pub food. As we were leaving, having seen me, Alan, the chef made himself known to me, and I was delighted to see him and praise his cooking skills. He said, he had learned a lot from working at LA Trompette. It shows,

After spending the day in Arundel, we decided to stay the evening as opposed to returning home to London and getting caught up in traffic on a lovely summers evening.We decided to eat at the White Hart and were surprised to find that is was actually two businesses in one, with a pub at the front and a restaurant out the back with an American style Smokehouse Menu. The pub was very nice and airy with a good selection of Beers and Ales at some decent prices and a good local atmosphere, They also have a nice garden area.We really fancied some up market pub-grub and the smokehouse definitely seemed a strange choice of cuisine to have in an old style English pub. It came as a surprise, but you cant knock the owners for trying to do something different (Even though they seem to have "borrowed" there menu from a well know American Style Diner in the heart of London that we regularly frequent).The food was fairly well priced and did the job. My partner had the Mac & Cheese, which was well portioned and packed full of rich cheese and oozed flavor, but could be perceived as being too cheesy for some. I went for the "Carnivore platter" which consisted of three chicken wings, a strange morsel of fatty Pork and a Credit card sized piece of Brisket plus two sides. The Brisket was very tasty and the Pork was ok, The chicken wings stole the show in terms of size and quality of meat but the sauce was a let down, and im sure it came from a jar.All in all it was a nice experience and the staff were friendly, I would recommend the food but try not to compare to London quality American style diner restaurants as you may be left slightly disappointed. If your in Arundel, I would recommend this as a place to eat.

Spent a lovely long week-end in Arundel and visited this establishment in the mornings and early afternoons.Good people, clean bar, good food and 'house doubles'.Will certainly visit again.

We had an enjoyable evening here. The bar area was buzzing. Two separate areas were not quite so busy. We had a choice to sit in any of the three. One of us had a meat platter; the other a fish platter. They were both served on long rectangular slates. The meat platter was great; the fish platter OK - the fish in the wrap was also in breadcrumbs, and along with the rice it all felt a little heavy.The waitress was very friendly and helpful and accommodating. The bar staff are knowledgeable and helpful too.

Wonderful atmosphere. Trish, the waitress was so friendly and helpful. And the Carnivore Platter....oh my goodness!!! The brisket melted in the mouth and the chicken breast was so succulent. And the homemade Barbecue sauce topped it off a treat. I would also definitely recommend the Mac and Cheese! So tasty.Some have commented on the fact that you have to buy drinks separately. What's a few steps to the bar when you can enjoy a meal like this. 5 stars! Thank you for making our anniversary evening by the river so special.

Lovely Sunday pub lunch. Food was delicious and service was excellent. We had a gluten free person in our group who asked for no Yorkshire pudding with her roast. The waitress then took it on herself to check with the chef for any thing else in the meal that may have gluten in. As a result special vegetables were cooked and the gravy was served on the side. Nice family atmosphere with an out door area. There is the option to sit in an out door covered area if you prefer.

Very busy on Friday night, we got looked after. Felt like our waitress cared for us. Food was good, front of house under stress, professional, calm and friendly.
