This is a great place - a proper, traditional village pub. Welcoming staff. Great, freshly made, food served in generouos portions. And... £10.95 for a pint and a curry - excellent value for money. Definitely recommended.

After reading all the rave reviews four of us chose to eat here. Waited over an hour for fish n chips and there was only one other table of two. Food was average.

Since moving to Mid Devon, I have been touring all the pubs trying out their Sunday Roasts and without a doubt Pete's (the Chef) Roast comes out top in all categories, number 1 for taste , Value for Money and Portions, you will definitely not be thinking at the end it could have been bigger.

Popped in while staying with family in Bow. Nice choice of locally sourced ciders and ales and very friendly staff. We chatted for ages and they were very accommodating and welcoming. Popped back in the next day for Sunday lunch but hadn't booked. Unfortunately we'd missed the boat but they did us each a stunning homemade steak pie and added some of the roasties from the dinners. Couldn't finish the lot as it was such a big portion. Really enjoyed though and will definitely be coming back soon.

Superb pub. A really traditional British feel to it. When we booked a table they really sounded genuinely wanting us to visit them. When we got there the owner and bar staff were really welcoming and friendly. We were served quickly and when the food came we were not disappointed. Huge portions and really tasty. Presentation was excellent. If it wasnt for the fact that we were on our last day of our holiday we would certainly be returning. I would recommend this place to everyone 100%.

Visited here with family - and the food was exceptional- lovely roast beef and loads of fresh vegetables. Owners were lovely and friendly and advised us about local walks. Wish we lived nearer because we would be here again and again. I can honestly say the food was lovely and really reasonably priced - if you get the chance - go there

Went to the pub on a Friday night and Sunday afternoon too. Nice cosy pub, good selection of beers, and best of all the food was fantastic. The Sunday roast beef dinner was probably one of the best I've ever had!

You know how sometimes you walk into a pub and, within moments, you just know that you'll like it? Well, for us, that was The White Hart at Bow. My wife and l popped in for a quick drink whilst our daughter was at an area Cubs New Year party at Bow Village Hall. Neither of us had ever been in before but, honestly, within a few minutes we felt really relaxed and at-home. The people behind the bar plus the locals were just so friendly and welcoming but not in an "all-over-you" fashion; that would have had the opposite effect. No, they seemed to treat us like locals that just hadn't been in for a while. I'm probably not explaining it very well! We've since been back with our daughter for Sunday lunch. Delicious but you'll definitely need to book. Highly recommended.

Great Sunday roast dinner, fresh vegetables including cauliflower cheese and lovely fluffy inside and crisp outside roast potatoes. You have a choice of two meats and plenty of it, extra gravy if your looking for a home cooked style roast dinner then you cant go wrong. Great choice of deserts if you can fit it all in and well presented in a lovely old historical pub with a open fire that is as warm as the welcome. I would highly recommend.

We ate here two nights in succession, both times in the bar (dog friendly). First night full meals, second night bar snacks. Food was excellent, cooked to order (so be patient). Helpful hosts, great atmosphere, good beer, and lots of customers (which says a lot about how other people view it). A really great local pub.

We called and booked for a table of 6 on a Sunday evening. They had been very busy the night before, and had limited steaks and a couple of other dishes. We ordered our food over the phone and said we would be bringing 2 large bouncy 1yr old dogs with us. The landlady reserved a table in the corner for us, so that we could calm the dogs down. Food served quickly, and was of good quality. Very friendly and helpful landlady. Lovely beer garden out the back. Very dog friendly and even provide poo bags!!!

Pub with a really, really wonderful old interior. I visited it in Autumn '18 out of hours. My purpose for wanting to see it was that my mother had stayed there on and after the war, ie during the time of Bill Freeman's management, a family friend, The managers who were to depart in the following week saw a bloke leaning over their gate and enquired why he was there. Me. When I explained, they were ever so kind and invited me in. They took photos of me there and I was so pleased but sadly they were never e-mailed to me as promised even with a follow-up phone call. Very odd. I'm disappointed and not a little perplexed.

The White Hart is everything you could want from a village pub - friendly locals, roaring fire, and rooms steeped in history. Entering it's doors you feel rather like you have stepped back in time. The food was excellent; we went for a pheasant casserole with a creamy cider sauce and a chicken Kiev; everything is homemade from scratch and provided in hearty portions. Quite frankly we can't wait to return.

We had a Roast Beef dinner, very good portion of meat, more than enough Proper Roast Potatoes and 4 large portions of Fresh Vegetables, couldn't fault anything, will definately visit again, difficult access to the Car Park but plenty of parking available.

We stopped off here recently for lunch having heard about their good reputation and were not at all disappointed. It was snowing and freezing outside so the log fire was nice, as was the warm welcome from the lady behind the bar. Service was extremely friendly and also quick. The menu is great. With a vegetarian and vegan in the family (and gluten free!) we sometimes struggle to find a menu that pleases everybody but not here, in fact with some much choice it took a while to decide. We all had amazing meals that were superbly coked and presented - a cut above usual pub food but still in an authentic pub environment. There are not many places where you can have "gastro pub" food but don't have to pay silly inflated prices nor sit in a soulless gastro pub to have it! The beer is good too. Highly recommended. We will be back for sure.

Called in here a few times now as its not to far from home, the staff are always very friendly and welcoming, and the food is always good, we've had the rump steak, gammon, a pasta dish and the chicken with bbq sauce and bacon, which have all been faultless, if you like a nice friendly village pub with great food and drink then it's worth calling in.

Had a wonderful freshly prepared meal at The White Hart. The staff were friendly and the pub is a great little find. I am a bit of a curry nut and there homemade curry did not disappoint. The only fault we could find was the massive open fire wasn't lit! It was warm and sunny outside though! Will have to come back in the winter.

we went to the pub which was very friendly the beer was good and the staff were great and helpfull. We ordered food which included fish, which looked like it had come out of a frozen packet, not the crispy fish that you usually get in a pub, my friend had curry which was very dry, not much sauce at all, overall good pub but poor food.

What can I say about this place? Fantastic, brilliant, awesome! You get the picture. The staff are really friendly and the food is good honest pub fare. Massive portions and Sunday lunch is to die for at a snip of a price. Sadly have moved out of Bow now so can't visit as often as we'd like but will definately go back again from time to time. James and Louise deserve a medal for running this diamond of a pub.

In a wonderful old building, with hardly any straight walls, but with exposed beams, a proper inglenook fireplace, a separate pool room, a separate dining room, a secluded garden and various special events throughout the year. A selection of real ales plus the usual others. It is family friendly at lunchtimes and early evening. The food is good home cooked English, with a specials board, a good range of baguettes and sandwiches, and is well worth going a little off the beaten track to find. Thoroughly recommended.

Stayed here for New Years Eve 2024. We chose the pub / hotel for its remote location and lack of fireworks (we have dogs and one is traumatised by loud noises) - from the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome. A quintessential English pub with wonderful, nicely designed and spacious rooms and very comfy beds (we had Beech and Birch). The owners and locals were very friendly and inclusive, taking care to make us feel welcome. We felt very well looked after. Breakfast was delicious (full English) and served with locally made tea and coffee (Miles, made in Porlock) and unlimited juice. We are happy that this place is only 50 mins from where we live because we will definitely be back for lunch and will find an excuse to stay again soon, I’m sure… highly recommend. Thanks to everyone there for a great stay! Sam and Nick Clarke
