We've been visiting the White Eagle for the past 15 years or so. It's consistently brilliant both from a service and food perspective. Today we called in after a bracing walk with our two dogs along the beautiful coastal path. We were looking forward to hearty lunch. The welcome was, as usual, super-warm and friendly. The team are just fabulous. They always remember our dogs, make a big fuss, and offer them treats (after asking us, of course!) We're both vegan and finding good food out is still difficult. We were delighted to see a 'Root vegetable hot pot with garlic and rosemary potatoes' on the 'specials' menu. It was absolutely delicious. Just what we wanted. It's surprising how few places are able to cook both plant-based and non-plant based food well and at affordable prices. The Eagle do, and do it superbly well. We can't wait to go back. :)

Very good fish and chips and cottage pie but quite expensive (an average of 20 pounds for a main meal). Nice views and easy to park. We were disappointed by the kids meal as the burger was of low quality. It was convenient for us to est there but we would not come back.

Rather disappointing. Never been here before until yesterday. It was busy there and we had a table pre-booked. On arrival, our table was made there and then. With moving cutlery and chairs from one table to the other. How unprepared? Drinks were fine. But main course was unexpectedly bland. Went for a fish and chips as I didn’t fancy anything else on the menu. The batter was like paper, no taste at all. Tartar sauce, again no flavour, just tasted like Light Mayo. Nobody came to see if everything was ok with food. Staff never looked in our direction to be flagged down. My toddlers chicken nuggets was over cooked and dry, he couldn’t even bite it properly. Toddler gave up in the end.how can you get chicken nuggets so wrong? When we went to pay, again was not asked if food was ok. Never again will I come here and would not recommend.

Great place for a special family meal. Interesting menu and all the food was well cooked and delicious. Prices are on the high side for Anglesey but the portions are generous and food of a high quality. We booked a table for 1230 on a very busy Saturday but there was no rushing us out so we could enjoy the meal to the full.

An excellent pub in a unspoilt, beautiful location. We enjoyed visiting the White Eagle everyday during our holiday in Roscolyn, Wales in October 2024. We always received a warm welcome. Drinks were well mixed, pints enjoyed. We had a fantastic lunch on a sunny Saturday - seated outside on the terrace in the sunshine, with perfect views of the bay. It could have been summer - or a sunny day in the alps! The mixed seafood snacks were delicious. Our maincourses of mussels, fish pie and a burger were just what was needed. All washed down with a couple of well priced exclusive champagne and a bottle of chateauneuf du pape. The White Eagle is one of those pubs you wished was local to you! Many thanks to Arry and Clare in particular. Keep up the good work team!

The White Eagle is a must if you’re visiting Anglesey - great beer and delicious food. We found the options of good food on Anglesey a bit sparse but the White Eagle stands out as the best on the island. The food is absolutely delicious with great local ingredients. We tried their sister restaurant, The Oystercatcher, on the island too and it was nowhere near as good so don’t judge the White Eagle if you’ve been there. It’s a great place for a relaxed evening meal or a lunch on the terrace overlooking the sea - 100% the best place to eat on Anglesey from our experience.

We’ve visited many times before but this was our first time sitting out on the balcony. The views are absolutely stunning. It was a sunny Saturday afternoon so service wasn’t 100% perfect but that was only to be expected given how busy it was. The food was delicious, there was a singer playing a great range of music so altogether it was a blissful way to spend the afternoon. Love how dog friendly it is.

Six of us met for Sunday lunch. We’d booked inside (a couple of weeks earlier) but as it was the hottest day of the year so far, we asked if we could have a drink outside and take an outside table when one became free? The greeter said yes and she’d come and call us when a table was free. We had drinks and noticed a couple of empty dining tables - but no one came. So after about half an hour we asked … to be told “sure sit wherever you like”. She’d quite obviously forgotten us. Service was a bit hit and miss to be honest, but food was hot and tasty and the views glorious. I’d have given 5 stars but service needs a bit of attention.

We hadn’t booked but we were extremely lucky as a table had decided to sit outside so it was free. I recently married and chose for our wedding drinks and meal at The White Eagle, every aspect of our experience was exceptional; The drinks upon arrival, our meals, service and the amazing wedding cake along with a perfect location and view for our photos. The Manager Adrienne and her team ensured our party were welcomed, which further contributed to the enjoyment/ experience. Would recommend this venue as a reception/ family meal or even for a snack/ drink following a scenic walk along the coast.

From the moment you walk in the service is excellent. We stopped when it was very busy and the lady on reception was very accommodating of the two of us with our dog. Without any prompting this lady brought a dog bowl and biscuits for our Shih Tzu and made a fuss. Our server Chelsea gave excellent recommendations from the menu which we took and had a really lovely meal. After hearing so many good reviews decided to stop for some afternoon tea in the gardens. First, Manager clearly saw me on 3 occasions but didn’t acknowledge or say “will be with you soon”! Finally directed us to a table outside. We sat and sat and sat and sat. I asked a young man if I had to order inside. He said someone would take our order. We sat and sat and sat and sat and finally went back to the car. So disgusted at the service especially as we had my 85 year old father who’d made an effort with his Walker to get to the table in the first place. Won’t be back

Recently visited after hearing great reviews. Firstly the place is set in a lovely quiet location with a stunning beach just down the lane. Once in the pub the greating was very warming with a beautiful view from the main window. After ordering drinks and food this is Where things got a bit messed up, the order hadn't been put in meaning we waited for 30 minutes for the starter however, to be fair to Pete the duty manager he was very apologetic and a free round of drinks was accepted as a sorry. Following on from this the main course was very enjoyable, service was a bit slow but this was due to the busy period. Making the pudding order was quite a challenge as the waitresses were young and struggled to understand the order as we were ordering different amounts of ice-cream scoops and also forgot to bring over the cup of tea. When it came to the bill there was a discrepancy however it was a genuine mistake ( pudding order issue). To be fair to Pete he was very helpful and understanding and provided great customer service which did not put us off the venue, he was very honest and understanding when it came to the issues we had. We would definitely go to the venue again as I feel that the few issues we had were due to the busy time of day and were no real dramas. The overall price was reasonable for the standard of venue and food quality.

We have been on holiday for a week in north wakes and Anglesey island. We tried several pubs and restaurants. This was the top notch: we have been there three times in arrow lunch-dinner-lunch! We tried all the fish dishes and they are all great! If have to chose one or two, try the halibut with pistacchio and the stone fish with fennel. The starter of crab was also delicious. The dessert creme brûlée was one of the best desserts we had in a while. Just one point: there are several waiters, some are very efficient, but some are quite slow, so sometimes one needs a bit of patience (in any case rewarded by the great food!)

Where do I start With Covid restrictions making booking a small wedding meal even more difficult I have to say Adrienne & her hard working team made our daughter & son in law wedding meal a day to remember. We can not thank you enough for all the stops you pulled out from the minute we arrived yesterday until we left. The table was laid out as requested and the food was so tasty. With 12 of us on 2 tables ordering different dishes everything just flowed nicely. I mentioned to Adrienne the ( manager) that I hadn’t organised a cake she said it wasn’t a problem she would have one ready for us on the day. True to her word she did just that. We sat out in the garden having drinks before enjoying our meal. The sun was shining the setting was superb. Everyone enjoyed the White Eagle experience So a really big thank you from us all.

After a problem with our booking, they accepted we sit in the main room with the sea view instead an additional dining room, that shows they care about their customers. The main room is really nice but the staff, although very kind, seemed exhausted because the restaurant is open non-stop from lunchtime to dinner. The fish dish was well cooked but the desserts were really too expensive (£ 10) for no taste and not enough quantity for the price. In conclusion, despite the staff's efforts to satisfy us, the bill is too high and the quality / quantity / price ratio remains insufficient. We advise us to go to Catch22!

We attempted to go here for a meal. We appreciated that it was busy due to being half term so we ordered drinks whilst we waited. We spoke to 2 different people that were waiting on, to enquire about requesting a table and they both responded saying that they didn't know what we were meant to do?? They then pointed out the lady that would be able to help. She came over and could literally give us no indication of how long we would need to wait. She was extremely unhelpful. She said that if a table became available to just go up. Just as we were about to give up, a table did become available. My Mom checked that we could go up and the woman said it was fine, it just needed to be cleaned. However, a moment later, another family said that they had been waiting a really long time for a table, in fact since midday. The woman approached and would not confirm to either of us who could sit down first and who the table should be for?? We were so disheartened by this point, we gave up and decided to leave. The other family also said that none of the staff seemed to have any clue of what was happening???I would not recommend this pub to anyone. Very, very disappointed and useless, ill-informed staff.

Firstly, the positives, the beautiful setting is one in which a lazy summer afternoon could be easily spent with a cold beverage. It should be noted however that although the quality of the food was good, it does not quite match the premium price tag. The fish was fresh, well cooked with a light and crispy batter but when charging at the high end of the price scale, one expects a higher standard from the chips, burger, soup and desserts. The service unfortunately was a significant disappointment. Whilst covid has been tough on the hospitality industry and certain dispensation can be made for this, for a business to survive it must make the customers' experience paramount. Being informed that several drinks (cocktails) were "out of stock", only for nearby tables to place orders for the same drinks later in the evening which were ferried past our table was frustrating. Having to reorder drinks as orders were lost, still for several not to arrive left us unimpressed, especially when we received the premium level bill. Having been used to dining/hosting at home for over a year, this experience did not leave us inclined to change these habits in the near future. If lessons are learned, this has the potential to be an exceptional venue but at present there is little to recommend it.

We booked for a Sunday lunch assuming it would be busy but we're surprised it wasn't. Although the food was great, the service was mediocre at best. At busy times, I understand that but it wasn't. We had to wait almost 15 minutes just to order drinks, and even then it was with a sullen disposition as I had dared to point out that we had been waiting quite a while. Amongst other things, the plates left on the table for 25 minutes after us finishing was the last straw. I ended up leaving husband to pay the bill while I sat in the car furious at the poor experience. It still took another 10-15 from asking for the bill for us to be able to pay and leave. Ruined what was meant to be a nice family treat day for us. Table 32 3PM if managment want to check, you have my contact details from my booking.

After being let down elsewhere, I hurriedly phoned to ask if food was available and was reassured to be told yes. From arrival service as usual was second to none, friendly staff kept us supplied with excellent cask ales while we ate our ‘Snowdon burgers’ with fries and what a gorgeous burger it was, as far from a fast food version as you could be. The desserts were great too. Lots of attention and sympathy to our collie who had cut his pad open earlier and was sporting his bandage in exchange for fusses. My wife and I decided to visit the White Eagle on a Friday evening in May 2021.On arrival we were directed to a table , which wasn't the one we had actually reserved , that one was already occupied. The over zealous waiter hadn't even allowed us to take our coats off and arrive at our seats before he pounced on us to hand us the pretentious menus. This was the first of many unecessary interactions with this member of staff and other staff at the White Eagle on this particular evening. The same guy took the drinks order, which duly arrived over 15 mins later , apologising for the delay, in the meantime .The food then arrived 10 mins later, my chicken dish was fine , but the basics were missing with no veg or potatoes included , that would have been £9 extra of course, as side orders. My wife's pasta dish , was not so great however , with such a measly portion, about 6 spoonfuls for £15 , way overpriced!!My main gripe with this place is that we were asked by 4 different members of staff no fewer than 8 occasions , if everything was OK with the meals. It's as if there was a prize on offer for asking the customer the same question the most times. My wife and I simply could not have a private intimate conversation between ourselves for more than a few minutes before we were rudely interrupted by staff asking us the same question over and over again. This strategy was so contrived , its obvious they were looking for brownie points and for positive feedback by name , well I am afraid this strategy has backfired , because I am not being brow beaten into leaving positive feedback. This strategy was so obvious and contrived, that I object to being requested to leave trip advisor feedback, just because they have been insincere and bullied me into leaving feedback, by asking if everything was OK with our meals and other repeated questions by other staff.Do they not communicate with each other to avoid 4 members of staff unnecessarily asking me the same question about the meals 8 times in total. This is completely unacceptable and excessive and this strategy caused much annoyance and spoilt our evening due to constant unecessary interruptions, when were trying to enjoy our meal..If the staff coordinated the customer replies then surely they would not repeat the same question over and over again

My partner and I went to Rhoscolyn this weekend just gone for an overnighter in the camper van and popped in to the White Eagle on the Saturday night for a cheeky gin on the way back up from walking the dog on the beach. Peter served us and managed to get us a table for Sunday lunch the following day. Fantastic is the only way to describe the experience. The welcome, the food, the dog-friendliness (we've got a chilled whippet but there were a LOT of dogs out on the tearrace/balcony and all were well behaved!). This even extended to the staff carrying around dog treats in their pockets and plenty of water being left out for the furry friends. The meal itself was exemplary. We both had a Sunday roast (pork and beef) and the food was incredible. Perfectly cooked, served nice and hot with smiles all round from the staff (under their masks, obviously!). The highlight for my partner was the white chocolate desert, with a dark chocolate base and a dark chocolate truffle with a garden mint sauce (pictured). The mint sauce actually tasted of garden mint rather than peppermint and the whole thing was beautifully presented and tasted incredible. For our first time out since lockdown, we really couldn't have asked for a better experience or meal. Even the light rain shower mid-meal did nothing to dampen our spirits and, being that we visit Rhoscolyn fairly regularly, we'll be back to visit Peter and the team again. Thank you to all the staff for making it a day out to remember. ;)

Lovely friendly welcome from Arry, Pete, Kathryn, Ade, joe, Majik, Ray and Sam today. We both enjoyed a lovely roast, the beef was delicious and our dog gives your pigs in blankets a firm 10/10 as well and approved of his welcome too! Can’t wait to come back and enjoy the same again when hopefully the covid hospitality rules will allow us a nice pint and a glass of red to go with! See you soon!

we stayed at a local yurt in Rhoscolyn on the 19th and 20th Nov and ate at the White Eagle both evenings ( within walking and staggering distance ) . The food was fantastic and on the first evening we both managed to over order and couldnt manage our chips !... the sharing seafood platter for starters and then steak and burger after that ..second night we were a bit more reserved and plates were emptied , and we were very satisfied . Thank you to Pete , Adreanne, Kathryn for their wonderful service over the 2 nights we ate there and thanks to Ray, Joe and Matty in the kitchens . We will be back and highly recommend . Thanks again

This is what I wrote to my friend who asked me what my experience was like at The White Eagle, when my family and I dined there for my 50th birthday recently, 20th Nov 20. The meal mate was outstanding. I had a scallop starter and decided on a relatively safe option for mains, although indulgent due to birthday, the fillet steak. It was going to be a ribeye, but that wasn’t on the menu, having being replaced by the fillet. I tend not to choose a fillet as a rule of thumb, as I tend rather not risk having a poor meal with it being hit and miss generally. I was not disappointed in this case whatsoever. The only minor issue I had with the dining experience, and I really do mean minor, was the fact that there were a few items that were on the online menu that were unavailable, yet replaced by equally deliciously sounding items. We’d all chosen to browse the online menu so as to speed up the ordering process when we got to the restaurant. Having worked in the foodservice industry for over 30 years, and understanding supplier issues, I think the chefs have done an outstanding job with what must be an unthought of level of adaptation needed during this unprecedented time with COVID, where daily supplier issues are really testing the nation as a whole. The online scallops were with a minted pea purée and bits, yet it was a squash and tonka bean purée on the night instead, therefore as good, and in some cases with other items, better than as good. I’m actually going to go on trip-advisor and leave a really good report. They thoroughly deserve it, not only for the food, but the staff too and the extra mile they took what with us being a birthday group of 11, and more so in the middle of this pandemic and the numerous changes they’ve had to make and challenges they present. Not one of us had a complaint about the food or service, and actually all of us were full of positive comments and satisfaction at the end of the whole dining experience. It is at the far right end for price found on the island in general, but is absolutely justified. You get what you pay for. Certainly close up there with the Michelin’s in Beaumaris and Menai bridge. We shall definitely have to go there for food next time you’re here, as their lunch menu sounded as good as the evening menu, so we won’t be disappointed believe me.I can only reiterate what I sent my friend. 5 out of 5 in every aspect, absolutely not found wanting. Thank you.

We were staying in Red Wharf bay and decided to visit the White Eagle as we had been there before, although it was a bit of a drive. Well we believed the pub has changed hands, not sure if this is correct but it was very very good. Immaculately clean , fabulous friendly staff and the four of us had the most delicious meal. Two of us had the roast beef (which would have fed the 5000) hubby had delish scallops followed by the fish and chips, which was fresh and light with a huge fish. Another had Calamari starters followed by the burger. He was so impressed, he asked which butcher the burger was from! We were so full, only one of us managed the Apple dessert with pecan ice cream, which was scrummy.Staff were delightful, and we had a lovely afternoon. We wish the team all the best in these most difficult times and thank them for their fabulous service .

Me and my partner had a lovely last minute Sunday night meal here. We felt very safe, all current covid measures were in place. Phoned up to book a table and had a beautiful table in the windows. The food was absolutely delish, I had the gluten free calamari which was outstanding. My partner had the special Beef Ragu which he really enjoyed. The atmosphere was really nice. Lovely casual decor with beautiful photos of the surrounding area displayed. Pete A was really friendly and chatty. He was able to arrange for me to have an excellent gluten free meal without worry of cross contamination. Will definitely becoming back next year!

We ate at the White Eagle last night for the first time, whilst staying in Anglesey in a property run by Boltholes and Hideaways. A great meal - the scallops and veg curry were excellent and the service friendly. We felt very safe as Arry and Pete made sure everybody kept to the social distancing rules. We are staying in Plas Elyn between Llangoed and Penmon and the drive to the White Eagle was well worth the effort. We will be coming again. Anglesey is so beautiful- especially this time of year and The White Eagle is a real find. Thanks to you all including the cooks Ray, Nish and Sam.

We ate at the White Eagle early in our break. We were returning to an old favourite and the food, staff and service were as good as ever. When joined later in the week by the rest of the family there was only place to go for a Saturday night out. A brilliant meal was enjoyed by all the family. The manager looked after us really well. We will be returning in the future.

After asking our permission, Arry gave our dogs some treats and provided water without us having to ask. Food was amazing, Calamari to start and Mussels for main, huge portion and absolutely delicious. We had Arry as our main server and he couldn’t do enough for us, really friendly and really lovely, would definitely recommend.

We visited here to celebrate as I have just qualified as a registered nurse! We had heard good things about the food and we were expecting good quality - that is exactly what we got the food was unreal. We had calamari & scallops to start (scallops were amazing!), then my husband had the venison special (This was the star of the mains!) and I had the tandoori lamb rump which was also delicious. The sticky toffee pudding might be the BEST I have ever eaten!! My husband (who isn’t a sticky toffee fan) said it’s converted him! The whole evening was a perfect night of celebration and a little distraction from the crazy world we live in at the moment. Staff were all friendly and helpful and very respectful of government guidelines and all systems were in place for customers safety. Highly recommend. We will definitely be returning! (Hopefully soon, if not, when safe!) ❤️

Still the same warm friendly atmosphere - the social distancing and Covid concessions are impressive. The menu is not as expansive as it once was but I know that the kitchen cannot lend itself to social distancing - the important thing is that the quality remains good.

I don't often write reviews. I am not a keyboard warrior who writes a poor review at the first sign of mediocrity so for me to write a review things have to be good. The White Eagle is not good once, it is good every time we go in.That's the true measure of how good a place is; the consistency of food, service, staff, setting and enjoyment and the White Eagle has this in bundles.Arry must see a lot of customers as does Amy, both of whom served us on Monday but we always remember them as being very friendly, helpful and giving great service.Sam was the chef on duty (I checked) and I think I died and went to fish finger buttie heaven. Fresh fish, homemade batter and thick fresh bread - this was fish finger butties at a whole new level. The calamaris starter was amazing too. Arry and Amy looked after us and the dogs in the snug. There was a water bowl and a flow of dog biscuits. Great food, great place, great staff and sensible prices. It doesn't get better than that.

Visited Saturday afternoon for a meal whilst on a short break in Anglesey. Have enjoyed eating here before but due to circumstances, it was a while since we'd last been. It was a great meal, lovely surroundings, friendly staff (we were served by Pete) and prompt service. We had my mum with us who doesnt have good mobility but the staff were great with her and got us a large table with views. We all had different mains and desserts and all were equally good. It was nice to have a menu which had a variety of meals to suit all of us and not just your usual everyday choices. I would recommend the hake and especially the black forest dessert! Thanks, we all had a very enjoyable time.

I had the local mussels and Chris tried the Pannzanella. It!s a dish he makes himself but he said this was the best he had tasted. The White Eagle should be a highlight to any vist to Anglesey. Having driven from Birmingham to a weekend retreat, we went from Phwelli to The White Eagle based on a solid website, good reviews and lovely pictures. While it was a good journey out the way and there were loads of places en route we could have gone to, we both were extremely happy with our choice. Pete was just the most humble of hosts who seemed willing to make the most of our time there, restaurant is lovely laid out and the food cooked by Ray was bang on. I had the Cod and Chips, the missus had the Snowdon Burger which she highly rated. Overall bill came to a reasonable price so was fully worth our lengthy journey for a great experience.

Going on the strength of other reviews, we booked a table in the dog friendly area of The Crown. Having had and a 2 hour walk beforehand, a well deserved refuelling stop. Quite chilly in that area of the pub. Cheap lunch menu. Specials board more expensive. We had Scampi & fries, small battered cod & chips. Both came with peas. I had much higher expectations and was disappointed in the portion size(5 scampi pieces). Would consider giving it another try sometime, go in the evening and dine in the restaurant area. Pay the more expensive dinner prices, in the hope that the food would not be cooked from frozen and the portion sizes would be satisfying.
