The Wheel at Worfield in Shropshire

I made a reservation for Sunday lunch for 5 people. I explained my shellfish allergy to the staff member who confirmed all would be ok. The next day, I received a phone call telling me that as Sunday was a busy day and shellfish would be being served, the owner had decided to cancel our booking. What a deplorable way to manage allergies!!!

I would especially like to thank the staff for always finding us a table and fitting us in when we drop by on the spur of the moment. The service is exemplary and the food is quality; cooked to a very high standard. I never give tips but I found myself happy to do so here! Thank you to everyone at The Wheel. Roger & Claire

Four of us went for Sunday lunch. Friendly and welcoming staff. Staff were happy to re-seat us as it was a bit cold and noisey sitting by the bar. Good service and very nice food. Couldn't fault it.

Went mid afternoon for Sunday lunch that started badly as sat by TV away from main dining area . Ordered food and order taken by miserable waitress who did not really engage when ordering and certainly did not put request for the meat to be well done through . The food took around 45 mins to arrive and can only be described as school dinner quality with a strange mix of veg to accompany the tough beef so all in all very poor. Have been to this pub on probably eight occasions but probably will not go again due to this experience as took elderly parent who was looking forward to a rare meal out . All in all very disappointed and left asap .

Absolutely fantastic, went in tonight for my daughter’s birthday dinner, every aspect of the evening was fab. The food was fantastic, the staff were great.

Totally amazing experience with the family on our daughters graduation, all the team were very attentive including helping with limited dietary requirements. Thank you for a memorable visit.

Our third visit made special by the reunion with my wifes cousin some 29 years on. Great staff make this popular venue special, they always seem to go the extra mile and make you feel valued.

Booked a table for 8 people Saturday night, special occasion, arrived by taxi to be picked up later around 11 pm , good service by staff , correct glasses for drinks ordered, food was ok , but we felt rushed after starters arrived , the best was when we where told last orders at 9.30!!! Website said open till 11 , very disappointed had to wait around till taxi minibus could be sent back , overall experience ….never again here

Lovely food, we visited 3 times whilst away on our holiday, nice pub plenty of choice on the menu, food was excellent every time! Was always busy when we visited so must be a popular choice! Reasonably priced! Only looses one star as we found the staff weren’t overly accommodating, come across a little abrupt at times! However one lady that served us on our last visit not sure on her name, blonde straight hair in a ponytail, was very friendly and accommodating so Thankyou!

A great place for food and lovely staff.You can choose small or large portions. I always favour the lamb and fish dishes. It is situated on a busy road and there should be traffic calming measures but that is down to the cancel

We were in the area and looking for somewhere to have lunch, then drove past here and decided to give it a go. Lovely decorated inside and obviously well looked after. We hadn't booked a table but they managed to fit us in which was good of them. The menu has a decent amount to offer and I would say has something for everyone, we went with the fish & chips, lasagne, steak and a children's chicken nuggets. First of all WOW! tasty freshly cooked food at it's best! the the portion sizes are generous and all meals presented perfectly, and to top it off the prices are very reasonable for the quality of food you get. Got to give a mention to the fantastic pint of Town Crier. It's also nice to see proper chicken used for the children's chicken nuggets. Perfect food, perfect staff perfect setting. Nothing else can be said.

A must visit place for excellent food and service ! The Sunday dinner we had was absolutely fantastic and so tasty - great standard of meat and ample veg in tasty gravy - all home cooked along with a gorgeous dessert also produced in house - service level top notch - drinks huge choice and ales always excellent!

Sunday Lunch for 10 4 children 6 adults. Seated by patio windows next to smoking area outside yet we could still get the smoke in side. through the gaps in the doors nice start. Asked if we could move. sorry no room for 10 anywhere, we ordered, waitress very helpful took our drinks order and then came back for food order. no problems. but this is where it starts to go wrong. Food came out in drips, 4 adults had the roast 3 lamb and a beef. enough veg for two so we had to ask for more. Cream potatoes luke warm apart from my wife’s. Stone cold. even the extra gravy did not improve the heat., her plate went back. Big mistake. unless of course if you don’t mind your meat being warmed up in the microwave., we all left our yorkshire’s , yes they were big, yes they looked good on the plate but as for being cooked, the base on all was still like batter., the veg lasagne was burnt on the top so underneath the top was dry, two large mix grills. dried fried egg yoke and as for fried or grilled chorizo !! not sure how it was cooked but I will bet the chef never tried it !! Hard would be my description. the beef on the roast was cooked to perfection as was the lamb but all served like warm other than the one that went back and as I said they made sure it was hot when it came back. Have you ever tried microwaved meat. ?? All in all very disappointed. the waitresses did there job well thanks ladies but I am afraid the food let’s the whole place down. For the record this was our fifth visit and the second time in a row we have had the same kind of food. Don’t think there will be another visit.

The wife and I called in for a drink whilst passing. Greeted by a very enthusiastic and pleasant Neve. I asked for a named local ale ( can't remember which ) in a dimpled handle, and bless her, she said "never heard of a dimpled handle before, what is it ?" I tried to explain and she showed me a straight glass. I explained that it was not correct. I realised my preferable drinking vessel would not be forthcoming and accepted the straight one. The ale was pulled and a glass of frothy water was placed on the bar. I said that it isn't right, and after a nod from a senior member of staff, it was poured away and a more acceptable pint was pulled. My wife had a whiskey which was okay, although both drinks were expensive. I did enjoy reading the framed historical item about the building, that was placed at the end of the bar, which was the really the highlight of our visit.

Came here with my Dad for a bite to eat out of town and it was great. Staff were pleasant and friendly and the food was good, haven’t been for a while but would definitely recommend and will definitely come back again!

Ordered our food I had cajun salad hubby had steak ale pie., I took one mouthful of my salad my mouth started burning 🔥 I told the girl a d my husband steak in the pie was Overburnt chips were awful and gravy awful to which head chef had said that shouldn't of been sent out , my husband spoke to the manager his attitude was awful just didn't want to know we paid £30.00 and he even followed my husband out side I was really not feeling well so I was sat outside he didn't even ask if I was OK, I'm so shocked towards the managers attitude , now at home feeling unwell , hungry if you call that customer service its sad oh we have been there with family occasionally had to send food back but will never go again, i will also be telling alot of my friends and family as I always told people it was a good place to go not anymore such a shame.

It was my 76th birthday meal with family. Spoilt by over zealous staff and overcooked food. I had the mega grill, most of the food you couldn't eat but had to chew it was tough, the steak we couldn't even cut with a knife, it was taken off to the kitchen. A waitress did apologise, but nothing else. If they had offered a tenner off or even a free dessert I wouldn't be writing this review. My wife's rump steak was that tough as well, she wrapped it up and took it home for the dogs, we had to feed that through a meat slicer as we couldn't cut it with a knife The desserts were good though Total lack of interest from any staff, so certainly not going back there. Not the first time had a problem there, just accepted the first time as one of those things but second time, sorry The Wheel you need to pull your finger out, not good on customer service at all

Called in on the of chance of a table and were warmly greeted it was busy but they got us in, lovely afternoon meal I had steak pie veg and real chips what a treat the wife had a veggie option salad she enjoyed that too, very good price and a very enjoyable meal great service by the staff will be visiting again.

12th February we came here for the first time, to celebrate my wifes birthday. Immediately we felt comfortable with the a warm, professional but not invasive welcome by a team of cheery faced front of house staff. We had a nice table, although from what we saw, they were all quite nice. We were not rushed to order but we knew what we were going to order. We had the Baltic Seafood sharing platter ( more about that presently) and a drink each. It was obvious that this is a popular venue. Monday, February but filling up fast. The waitress came for the order and we asked if the platter was "Main Course" sized. She said that a lot of people found the platter more than enough, but we ordered chips side dish...superflous as it turned out. The platter is fantastic. Smoked Salmon, Battered Cods, Fish Pie, Prawn Cocktail, Scampi, Salad, Sweet Chilli sauce, Alioli ( Garli Mayo ) Fresh Bread and of course the chips. Well my wife loves fish and seafood. Good job she does everything was doubled, hence the 2 person sharing. The fish pie negated the need for the chips, I liked it more than my wife, but then she liked the battered cod sticks more than I , so it met all of our needs. It represents great value for money, especially as I wont eat another thing today. We were asked if we wanted to see the desert menu, but we declined...we did order two coffees and just after it was delivered to the table, 3 lovely young ladies of the team came over with a chocolate and ice cream sundae with sparkler and sang happy birthday to my wife. She was blown away, it was a warm and genuine gesture. I had only mentioned in passing when booking, that it was her birthday but they obviously made note and thus sprang a complete surprise on us both, sadly only one desert...Oh well wait until it's my birthday. As stated this was our first but most definitely will not be our last visit to the Wheel at Worfield. Thanks guys

Accessibility: Has disabled parking spaces and a ramp option on the far left to get into the building. Space inside can be a little tight, but level access throughout. Food: Can’t fault the food. Always tasty and a good variety. Big portions and high quality. Also a nice range on the dessert menu. Our favourite - the Paella. Service: Very attentive and polite staff. Vibe: Nice country pub, with a good atmosphere, whilst still having quieter corners. Price: Good value for money. Would we make the effort to return again: Yes! On the list as one of our favourites, so will be visiting again.

It's been 10 years since our last visit stupid really as we are local. No doubt booking is a good idea at weekends as they are extremely busy. The restaurant does have a nice vibe and the menus excellent with portions to suit hearty eaters if that's your choice. Loved the fish platter couldn't fault it and our two older children didn't leave a crumb from their burger choice. Price wise its about right for food but some drinks are a bit over priced. Yes its a good venue yes its popular yes they maintain quality under pressure so it's an easy 5 from the Oakly 56.

The best mixed grill I have ever eaten, everything perfectly cooked. The chorizo & the beef croquette was a fantastic addition. Beautiful quality meat, onion rings & proper chips. The whole menu looked delicious & seeing the other dishes pass our table from the kitchen, we will definitely be making this a regular. The service was excellent & the beer was cold. Perfect way to spend an afternoon.

We are new to this place but in the last two months we have visited ten times. Sundays for lunch midweek treats and always looking forward to our next visit. We travel 20 miles and still think it’s well worth it. We will be there New years Eve Sunday lunch with our family. Staff always very friendly, food 1st class and very good value.

Dropped in here for the first time from Telford. They were fully booked but as there were only the 2 of us, and after a bit of table swapping, we were given a table. We were greeted by a lovely, friendly lady. Myself and partner ordered the Butchers Block (Main Sharer) and I must say it was superb!! We also ordered a side of garlic mushrooms, they were yummy too. We felt the sauce needed to be thicker, but overall a great meal with wonderful staff. Will definitely be returning.

Great food and even though it was a really busy evening the service was brilliant . Orders took very promptly and meals came out very quick and piping hot. Generous portions with lovely fresh side of salad and delicious too .Will definitely be returning !

We ate here last night with the in-laws and were sat at a nice, large round table by the window. A drinks order was taken immediately and the drinks arrived in next to no time. Our starters (crab cake with lobster sauce for me) came out piping hot and our child's meal arrived at the same time as promised. The food was very tasty and the wine (Petit Chablis) was delicious. Our mains were equally delivered on time and piping hot, although I seemed to have a meagre portion of chips compared to my husband and FIL. My fillet steak was cooked to perfection but probably not as tender as it could have been. It was nevertheless tasty and the chips were cooked to perfection and the peppercorn sauce was the icing on the cake. My MIL had lamb rump with minted red wine gravy which looked superb - no prizes for guessing what I'm having next time! The menu we were presented with on arrival did not exactly match the menu I had seen on the website earlier on in the day but I wasn't disappointed in what we had. This was the fourth time we have eaten there and I'm sure there will be many more visits to come.

We called in on the way back from visiting friends, this place is a real find. The food was amazing and excellent quality and value for money. We will definitely be going back and taking a group of people with us, make sure you visit the Wheel if you ever in the area, you won't regret your visit I promise you.

Booked a table for 3 people, 5pm Monday 9th August. We arrived and shown to a table that was both gloomy and cold. I didn’t ask to be moved so that’s my fault but I was surprised at the constant problem of flies which is especially unpleasant when having a meal. My meal, I ordered Gammon which came with chips and peas, unfortunately it was more fat than meat so I sent it back, it was replaced by by a much better, leaner meat together with an apology. We fancied something off the dessert menu but at £6.95 decided to do without. All in all, not a great experience, a shame because we’ve had some great meals there in the past, hopefully my negative comments can be addressed so that future customers don’t have the same problems.

Another great meal here, never any fuss or problem, staff always very efficient and friendly., food always good quality and served quickly.

Visited The Wheel at Worfield on 30th July 2021 and can honestly say it’s one of the best meals I’ve ever had, worth every pennyI had pork belly draft which also came with pork filled with black puddingEverything was cooked to perfection!!Service was quick, waitresses were all really pleasant and helpful, lovely atmosphere and nice, relaxing decor Can’t recommend it high enough Will definitely return in the near future

covid safe./ 1st time back since lock down,steak and ale pie THE SAME, staff excellent,ale great. like i have never been away.

Recommended by a neighbor a couple of months ago, we’ve been three times since, last night we sat in the garden to eat, nothing was too much trouble to the young lad serving us, the food as usual was excellent and piping hot, very pleasant and peaceful surroundings, is now a regular haunt for us.

Ten of us went on a birthday and engagement lunch at the Wheel. Because of Covid we had not been able to visit one our favourite restaurants. The food was as usual excellent served by happy, efficient staff. Well done Wheel.
