Ego at the Grapes, Shrewsbury in Shropshire

Came here by accident when we drove along A5 and we were all totally impressed by the tasty food. I finished every last bit of garlic and almond slices in the broccoli dish… and my daughter finished the sweet potato fries. In short every dish is brilliant!

Excellent meal and service. They happily catered for dietary needs too.

We received a very warm welcome for our first visit to this particular Ego eatery.both Emily & Lizzie looked after us with their warm friendly attitude. We knew the menu from our local Ego & we were confident that the food would be good & we were not disappointed. We would highly recommend this place to eat, especially on a Wednesday with the new Dine in for 2 offer.

I have always rated Ego and go to my local one in Staffordshire But very sad and unhappy and Disappointing , I took my Granddaughter and her Boyfriend out for a treat , they have never eaten at ego so I thought it was special , they both order a Pizza but had to send it back as it was so burnt underneath and uneatable , we had finished our meal so we had to wait for them to finish theirs, which it shouldn't have been like that, spoilt the night as it was suppose to be special night for my Granddaughter, Staff seem half apologetic but it wasn't they fault.

I visited Egos today for a meal with friends, we were greeted straight away with a smile. The food was excellent and the service too. Compliments to the Chef/kitchen staff and our lovely waitress Louise who was friendly, chatty and efficient, as well as being extremely knowledgeable about the menu, we will be returning again.

We have eaten here many times and always enjoyed the meals. The atmosphere is pleasant and the staff attentive. The only negative comment is that all the toilets both male and female have no hot water. It has been like this for all the times I have been going there.

We've eaten quite a few times at Ego, generally for a late lunch as it is good value and the food is well cooked. I always book in advance so as not to be disappointed at not getting a table. We've found all the waiting-on staff to be invariably friendly, polite, and helpful with explanations if we need clarification about something on the menu - Louise is often on shift when we go and is a great asset to the team. We've never been met with a grumble or poor attitude even when they're really busy with group bookings and rushed off their feet - credit goes to 'Team Ego'!

Waited almost 1hour for food ,this was at 1 pm .Portions not very big

I would like to say a big thank you to the Ego Grapes for their excellent service , we were a large party of 23 and the service was brilliant all meals arrived lovely and hot , no mistakes , everything was perfect , big thank you to Joshua , I believe it was his first shift so a big well done to him , we eat here quite often and the meals and service are always good

The food here is amazing; out of 10 diners every single person had a lovely meal. Our waitress Hannah was friendly and attentive. I emailed ahead letting them know I was on a carnivore diet and the staff and chef went above and beyond to meet my needs. All the staff were very welcoming and helpful. The parking is excellent, the restaurant is easy access if you have any mobility needs and there is a varied menu. Excellent.

Expensive Sunday dinner just because it was mother's day. Mandatory 3 courses.£35 each. Just ordinary Sunday dinner. Never mentioned Mandatory when booked.

The food is always consistent quality and the standard matching the price, but it is the service and the atmosphere that keeps me coming back. Becca’s attentive service and warm smile today compelled me to leave a review.

My first visit to Ego at The Grapes but certainly not my last!! On arrival we were warmly greeted by Louise who was our server throughout lunch. She was friendly, funny and so very helpful. The food was delicious and hot. Highly recommended

Me and my wife went here last night as we were staying on a nearby caravan park. Had a very good meal, good value for money and the service was also very good.

Had a really good meal on Monday 17th February. We (and our dog) were made very welcome at a dog friendly table. Very well looked after by Becca who even brought a treat for our dog. Will definitely come back.

Very pleasant and helpful staff, nothing too much trouble. Special mention to our waitress Laura, a credit to the company. Food was excellent in presentation and flavour. Kleftico and Beef Bourguinon succulent and melted in the mouth. Only downside was a very busy and noisy environment at 7 pm on a Monday.

went in on 13th Feb for a lunch time meal for my birthday i must say our server Louise was fantastic and really made it enjoyable

Excellent service from Becca. Good, as usual, was amazing. Can highly recommend the Goats cheese and poached pear starter, Lamb kleftico was cooked to perfection, and warm apple pie to finish. Half price cocktails pre 6 pm completed a most beautiful birthday experience.

We came here on a Sunday for lunch. The person booking had requested a table in a space with enough room for 4 pushchairs and breastfeeding friendly. The table we were given was right in the middle in front of the serving pass with staff and customers walking constantly around the table. The food was poor quality and came out in dribs and drabs, we were given two portions of fries (for a table of 9) to say sorry for the wait. The pork was dry and chewy and obviously cold by time l could eat it with the full table having been served. The price of the food is extortionate for the quality and portion size. The pizzas looked good but everything else was poor and completely overpriced. The toilets were filthy with only 1 in 3 of the women's toilets actually in use, and given it was not long after 1pm and the state of the toilets, I would doubt they'd been cleaned that morning. The car park is like the face of the moon and urgently needs resurfacing. All in all probably one of the worst pubs in Shrewsbury and I have no idea how their overall Google score is anything more than a 1. Absolutely will not be returning.

Been a couple of times now and had issues with the roast dinners. It is extremely busy on Sundays so get in early if you want lamb as this sells quickly. Staff were pleasant and it’s always a busy which is a good sign, I just unfortunately didn’t have the best meal but will return

We made use of the Wednesday offer of £30 for two people to have two courses. The food was good with generous portions and a good choice of dishes. The service was friendly and prompt despite being extremely busy (thanks Louise!)

Called in and had a lovely meal. Excellent iPad to help with dietary requirements. The pub is bright and popular with locals calling in for a drink or meal after work. The staff were efficient and welcoming.

Food,service excellent one downside. Starters do not arrive with the appetisers. Starter was returned under the heat. Lamb koftas starter were dry on return. Should have sent them back.

Enjoyable evening at The Grapes. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was decent - see below for portion size. We ate 1 hour after arrival, but it was a Saturday evening to be fair. They add 20% service fee to your bill which we weren't anticipating. One course worked out about £30 a head. Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff if you fancy a nice meal out.

The menu is a little more upmarket than your usual pub off the side of an A road. Charging prices to match but on the whole the staff were friendly on arrival but service during the meal was strained, ordering of a second drink was difficult

I once said excellent, but today was terrible. The service was the worst, I understand they may be short staffed, so why not take more staff on when you have so many bookings. 35 minutes before our drink order was taken, another 15 minutes before we received them, having to call staff to our table to ask if we can give them our order. Seeing our meals on the service waiting to be collected and given to us, by which time the meal was warm. Ordering our dessert with coffees, the coffees were made, and we could see them waiting to be sent over to us, but we were told "we have bigger parties to serve and it has only been 11 minutes since you ordered them" and promptly walked off. Another 6 minutes until they were given to us, by which time they were cold. Asked for a replacement coffee, no apology, no words at all, just carried over and left on the table. The chefs we can see are working hard, but their efforts go to waist as the food is collected and handed out after it had been left on the top and going cold. After loving this place, it is hard to say the manager has let it down. Cancelling a booking made for the new year, better service in McDonald's.

We booked in for afternoon tea on a Saturday afternoon, the place advertises itself as pretty upmarket and polished but the reality left a lot to be desired. I'm not a complainer by nature, so it's tricky when things are disappointing to speak up. This was just one of those moments. I'm not going to complain as it would certainly take more effort for me to complain than the staff were prepared to put into serving. As always, I just won't go back and withheld the tip to show, in a very British way, just how annoyed I was. The staff were dreadful, hassling us for a drinks order before we had even sat down. The drinks arrived and we didn't have any other contact until half an hour later when the afternoon tea was plonked onto the table. Plonked as in knocked my hand away in the hurry to put it down. 'yes it's for two people ' was the only speech before the waitress headed off. I should mention that when we arrived we did say we were here for afternoon tea and had no dietary requirements. Although the fact there was literally nothing to say about the afternoon tea speaks volumes. Personally, when the lady delivered the food I would have assumed it was a reasonable point to ask if we would like some tea with our afternoon tea. Unfortunately it took another 15 minutes to get some attention to order that and even then there was no choice offered or any mention that there was complimentary refills. Having failed dismally with service and delivery, you might think that the actual food would make up for it, but alas no. Sandwiches were ok but not great, the prawn sandwiches must have been kept uncovered in the fridge as the bread on these was going crispy. The fish cake was pretty good but the falafel was laughably bad. I mean dense frozen party food style. The cakes were mixed. The lemon tart packed a punch but had soft/soggy pastry like it had been kept around a bit too long. The Bakewell slice was pretty good but the brownie was not. It was more like a thin layer of brownie on top of a torte. Either way, not tasty enough to justify the calories. To top it off, literally, were the scones which unbelievably were very badly made! The rise was non existent and as such the top half was edible but the bottom half was just dough. The jam seemed to be some kind of syrup, it wasn't all the things you associate with good jam, instead it was cloying and sweet. I could feel it on my teeth for hours afterwards. As an opportunity to demonstrate to customers that they should come back for a proper meal it was an abject failure. I would question paying £15 for scallops made in a kitchen that can't make scones or falafel. This sort of place staying in business amazes me, the fact that people return there amazes me. I can only assume that some kind of kitchen disaster occured which led to our poor experience and that usually they aren't that bad

Can not thank the colleagues there enough . Our anniversary plans went to pot and a last minute rush to salvage the night ended with some fantastic food ..many thanks to you all.

Had a superb lunch (Wednesday) at the Grapes. Several menus to choose from; a La carte, Wednesday fixed menu and their festive fixed menu. All filled with great choices and at great rates. We chose from the Wednesday menu, two courses each for £30 and it was top quality food. Staff were also excellent, well trained and friendly.

Food was lush and Louise our server was absolutely fantastic with me and my non-verbal daughter, thank you

After years of eating and drinking at the grapes while using the nearby campsite we were looking forward to our evening meal. Our drinks order was taken and came straight away then there was over a 20 minute wait for somebody to come and take our food order. People came in after us and were served before us, it was as if we were invisable. Starter was delicious, main was obviously preheated and potatoes had a very chewy consistency (must've been made that morning and under a heat lamp for hours) . Then we had to wait almost half an hour to get the bill, we weren't asked if we wanted it, I ended up asking a passing waiter (not our waitress who was too busy flirting with the cooks!) Wont be going back

Had lunch today & l was not impressed… soup luke warm .. frozen roast potatoes.. minimal veg.. & tough roast beef. When you take people for lunch you expect a little more… ( need to get it right in my opinion) certainly wont be going back.

Sunday lunch gathering for 30 people. Food quantity was exceptional. I had roast beef which was tender & tasty. However, it was not very hot (cold plates) & could have been presented more attractively. Roast vegetables were overcooked. Service was excellent & delivered by name rather than the name of the meal made everything quicker.

Fabulous venue, with amazing staff and the sea bass is unreal!!

Visited a few times really good food menu is good not the cheapest place to eat most meals £18 plus could do with burgers on the menu. Really great full the staff allowed us to stay overnight in the rear carpark in our motorhome staff are super friendly

I came here today to do some work... I spent the whole day in the company of the staff... An incredible team of people work here. The main floor staff Emily, Lizzie, Jack, and Louise all did their level best to help and accommodate us during our visit, they were also extremely attentive to all the visiting customers. The chef in the kitchen was another fantastic Ego colleague, he too was very welcoming when we arrived on site and throughout the day helped facilitate our work. The whole venue looks stunning with a lot of attention to detail and cleanliness, This site has a large function room, a beer garden and a bowling green. What I really like is you can see into the kitchen from the restaurant seating here, I feel being able to see the chefs preparing and cooking food in a shiny sparkling kitchen always gives me extra confidence that the chefs have high standards... The food coming over the pass looked amazing... You can see why The Grapes is such a popular place to eat. This pub also has some really beautiful & unique lighting (I got some inspiration for own home while working here )...🤔 Thank you to the team here for looking after me and my colleague today... Very much appreciated 🙂

Louise was very helpful throughout our visit to the Grapes today, nothing was too much effort for her & we enjoyed her company. She took the time with us and it made for a lovely experience all round!

First visit to ego restaurant in bicton heath and wow couldn't of asked for a nicer meal or atmosphere the food was fabulous , hot and plenty of it , and hot, service was fantastic, the waitresses never stopped. It was a little noisy due to the pub being packed, all in all a fabulous find.

We decided to eat here as it had fairly good reviews. My husband had prawn linguine, which was okay but my peri-peri hanging kebab was not very nice at all. The chicken breast was bone dry, and I wondered if it had been cooked ahead and then cut up and skewered with veg before a quick grill. No flavour, no succlence and only tepid when it arrived at our table. Worst sort of pre-made salad with flavourless dressing and rock hard bits of pitta bread to accompany. All this for over 20 pounds. I felt less than satisfied. The waiting staff were friendly enough but the food was so disappointing!
