A wonderful pub with great food and staff. Stayed over the road and came on several occasions - delightful every time. The only pub we've ever been to (and we've been to a few!!) to deliver roast potatoes as good as home. Lovely inside - with comfy leather chairs - and out - with a verdant garden and peaceful garden. An absolute gem.

We visited the wheatsheaf today for lunch, I am a dairy intolerance sufferer and their help and understanding and care was excellent, the food was exceptional and the whole trip was a massive success thanks to the staff involved. Thanks very much for your professional approach to ensure I enjoyed my lunch. I cannot praise this establishment enough and would recommend for other allergy sufferers to eat with ease. Well done!

An anti-cash establishment, which is disappointing. The food was excellent, although the portion sizes could have been slightly larger. The serving staff were okay overall. The reason for the two-star service rating is for not accepting cash.

Living locally we often visit for food but on recent occasions we have been left disappointed. Today, we ordered Harissa Half Chicken and Chicken Parmigiana. Both meals were very bland and the Chicken Parmigiana was lukewarm. When served our food at the furthest end of the pub garden, we were told we needed to collect our own cutlery and sauces from inside the pub. This seems unfair considering both meals cost £20 plus and were inedible without cutlery. My partner was also missing his chips so walked inside to query this and collect our cutlery. He was told his chips were ‘on the side in the kitchen’ and the waitress reluctantly fetched them in the middle of serving another table. The food was disappointing and the unwelcoming service even more so, especially as there were less than ten tables at the time.

The menu is varied and well priced and, most importantly, the food is tasty, perfectly cooked and well presented. 4 stars on food only because they ran out of the dessert choice I wanted. After 3 tries I 'settled' for the apple pie, which was lovely, but not what I wanted. Otherwise the Sunday roast was delicious. The atmosphere is welcoming and they are VERY dog friendly. I can't wait to go back in the summer when we can sit out in their lovely garden. Parking was a challenge but if you're patient you'll eventually find a spot. It's a large lot, but the food and location is popular so arrive early.

For the second time we made short notice demands of the staff to do some work in the pub's garden, but Suzie and Megan couldn't have been more helpful and hospitable. After the work we enjoyed a tasty lunch and the lovely atmosphere the pub has. Given how full The Wheatsheaf was, plenty of others feel just as positively as we do. Lovely atmosphere and great food. Menu offered a good range of food and we all were pleased with our choices. Fish and chips, veggie curry and fish pie. Puddings were tasty although the crème brûlée could do with less mince meat as it was a tad overpowering. Nice range of ales and gins. Service a bit slow at the start with taking our order but then was better after. Should signpost clearly as they don’t take cash as this was a bit of a surprise,

I would say that the waiting staff service was poor. We have visited on a Sunday several times beforehand and service has been spot on! However, this time not so much; we had been seated for 20 minutes before our drinks order was taken, and a further 15 minutes for our food order to be taken. The service of food thereafter was prompt. Towards the end of our first course, our waitress came and asked if we were finished and clearly, one of our party of 7 was still eating, but she hung around waiting for him to finish, which was uncomfortable.

A tale of two half's really. Obviously a very popular venue especially for Sunday roast. We booked well in advance for a Sunday lunch at 1.45. When we arrived we were shown to two single table pushed together, squashed in between other similar tables - clearly 'walk in tables' and not what you would expect for a pre- booked table. We ordered drinks and food and waited.... and waited. We asked after some considerable time where our drinks were and were told they were on the way. Eventually the food arrived but not the drinks!! Then the drinks arrived. We had to ask for apple sauce and horseradish as we hadn't been asked if we wanted anything else. However the food was first class and has to be recommended. Perhaps we were unlucky with the service and table - a case of packing as many in as possible for cash flow. Overall I would recommend this venue for Sunday roast as the food was excellent.

We went as a family group for Sunday lunch. Overall enjoyable, but the roast dinner really wasn’t brilliant. My beef was so tough that I had to ask for a steak knife to cut it. The roast potatoes were leathery rather than crunchy on the outside. Ambience was good, decor inside the pub had character. The young lady who took our order was friendly and polite. The food however was so disappointing. I was so looking forward to taking my partner there for lunch. I had the tuna nisoise, thought for the cost of over £17.00 it would consist of a tuna steak. Instead, it contained approximately half a can of tuna in brine, 4 -5 incredibly small new potatoes, and an insipid dressing over the salad. I cannot remember the last time I wrote a review to complain but a small glass of passable white wine, half pint of beer and two mediocre salads costing over £50.00 added insult to injury. I did express my disappointment when paying the bill, in a polite way to just recieve a smile and no apology made!

Great traditional English country pub, with good food, service and atmosphere. So you give us £15 off but take £6 back for a service charge? I would have normally tipped the lovely waitress who served us but decided not to because of the charge. I know they are discretionary and could have asked it to be removed but I shouldn't have to be in that position in the first place. It really has put me off going back for a meal. Attended last Sunday for a family meal, and fundamentally, really good food but undermined by some interesting serving choices and some serving blunders. On arrival, our table booked for 9 was only with 7 seats. I believe they had to change it last minute, but it left us squeezing in to accommodate us all. I had the Fish and Chips, lovely fish, beautiful crisp and light batter but not many chips, which was a shame because they were excellent, just a little stingy. I had 9 on the plate. My wife like many on the table ordered the roast dinner, her choice of meat was pork. When the food arrived, her dinner didn't. It appears they had forgotten her, once the food arrived 10 minutes in, the meat sadly was mostly fat leaving her hungry. The children enthusiastically ordered Burgers. The burgers themselves were seemingly great quality beef, but utterly smothered in a bright orange (almost synthetic nacho cheese-esque) burger sauce. The sauce entirely dominated the dish leaving the otherwise good food unappealing. All four children refused to eat them as a result. On tasting it, the sauce is extremely strong, in smaller measure it could have complimented the dish but here it was too much. The free Yorkshire Pudding offer did ensure that our family did at least partly fill up, but this unlimited offer shouldn't have been necessary to compensate for the spaces in our stomachs. The deserts were lovely. After the disappointments of the main we were practically licking the plates/ice cream tubs clean. These were the highlight. A frustrating experience, especially given the £200+ bill.

Been for a main course before and really liked it but this time went for a light lunch and was very disappointed. Will not go back! We chose a starter (smoked mackerel pate) and a sharer (camembert). We were not offered any other menus but after we had ordered we discovered a bar snacks menu and as we were leaving we heard people talking about their sandwiches so that's 2 menus we were not told about and that really pissed me off as I would have preferred sandwiches. The starter was very very small. The camembert was not particularly tasty: just done with large lumps of garlic and rosemary and not nearly enough bread/crackers. A total rip off from our point of view as the bill for that food was £24 before adding on the drinks.

Having used The Wheatsheaf in the Woodfords at least monthly and our go to place with family and friends we were shocked at the unannounced change of policy until the 6 of us arrived for pr-pre booked table. Fortunately the chef agreed to cook a steak so it wasn't a complete disaster. Now you have introduced this policy we will be unable to eat at this pub anymore as you can no longer cater for one of your guests. We should have been advised when we booked that there was nothing on the Sunday Lunch menu both gluten and dairy free and you could no longer remove / amend items off the set dishes to cater for allergies.

I'll count this as probably the best food we had visiting the UK, even when stopping at restaurants that others recommended to us. There was a very good variety of choices on the menu and everyone was happy with their meals. I would recommend the squash ravioli as a great vegetarian option. This pub was also cute, perfectly cozy, and family-friendly. The atmosphere is casual and there is a grassy area by the outdoor seating where kids can walk around, but not play loudly as the pub is located in a quiet (and charming!) residential area.

Superb food on a broad menu that came with 8 types of vegetables. Also cheery service and atmospheric seating in the thatched cottage and the attractive garden.

Proper pub tucked away in a peaceful spot; freehouse, good beer and service, all 4 of us happy with our meals, love the slightly eclectic artwork. Few picnic benches by the stream outside for sunny days

We visited Nerano late on a Tuesday evening for a quick plate of pasta, and were pleased to find this place open. We were made very welcome. The only other table that was occupied when we'd arrived left shortly after, but nonetheless we didn't feel rushed to order and finish our food. There were a couple of specials available on the board, which on a different evening I may have chosen, but instead, this evening, I had a good idea of what I fancied. Fortunately, the menu offered a varied choice of dishes including vegan and vegetarian options. The italian waiters were attentive, pleasant natured, and helpful. They were happy and forthcoming with advice about dishes and we were made to feel comfortable and unhurried. The food arrived quickly (we only had a main) and was very good, meeting our expectations and 'hitting the spot'. At another time, I may say the food is excellent, wonderful, or even out of this world; but tonight it just needed to be a good plate of pasta. And that's exactly what we got. I'll be pleased to visit Nerano when Im next in town, and no doubt will have a wonderful meal, which I'll look forward to until then. Thank you so much for making us feel so welcome.

Ate here multiple times during my stay in Amesbury and every meal was delicious. Wether the pizza, salmon, cheesecake or any of the pasta dishes, everything was fresh and prepared perfectly!

Good beer and friendly. They even sell Lager - if you like that sort of thing. Proper Pub.
