Great pub for Sunday lunch! Cosy atmosphere, real fires and dog friendly. TV is on for sport and there is a pool table. Lovely beer garden.

The food was fantastic. Not pictured, my girlfriend’s chicken, ham and leek entree. We had read some mixed reviews and were curious. It really is the only pub in town walkable from our Airbnb and so were weren’t sure what to expect. The main room was mostly full when we got there. We had drinks and looked at the menu which was varied and relatively extensive. I had the chicken in chili and salt batter which came on a baguette with chips. It was great and exactly what I expected. A little spice. The chips were fresh and hot. Came with a great side salad dressed in a mustard vinaigrette that was also fresh and tasty. Girlfriend’s entree was in a delicious creamy sauce and a big portion of food. We didn’t leave hungry and highly recommend this place of you ever happen to stay in (or even drive through) this small town!

Arrived and the place was quite empty, lovely old pub was told to take a seat anywhere, looked at the menu which had good choice, I asked for lasagne with chips, hubby had burger, son had chicken chilli baguette, and a serving of garlic bread with cheese. Waited a while which is to be expected the food was awful, portion size like a.childs meal, frozen and not fresh, not as described on the menu. Baguette was a ciabatta, my garlic bread had no cheese but the chips did which is not what we asked for, but the girl said the till got it wrong ..... Then we paid our bill and thought it was expensive, they gave us the wrong table bill, which we questioned then they said they couldn't give us the difference back and said they would refund it, I asked for a receipt as I knew the whole thing was going to be mistaken. They couldn't give me a receipt. The manager came and his attitude was disgraceful....he was rude and never ONCE did he apologise, he wanted us to be out of pocket and pay again and he would refund our card which could take 3 to 5 days....that's not acceptable at all when your on holiday. He argued with me and eventually he gave me the difference in cash as he knew I was not leaving paying 3 times what what our bill should of cost. Absolutely appalling management skills, no apology and it was as if it was OUR FAULT they overcharged us. I will never go back again and I would avoid overpriced frozen meals..not a lovely country pub as I expected

We were a bit dubious as seen unfavourable reviews, but only pub in village, so decided to try it. Well, disappointed doesnt come close! Was empty when we arrived, now we know why! The pub has a wealth of character, but soulless and no atmosphere at all. Little old lady behind the bar with a rude demeanour, chef i presume sat playing games on his phone, looking liked just fell out of homeless hostel. Food arrived, could tell it was all frozen, Pie was tasteless with watery gravy and Packet mash potato, salad garnish on my husbands plate was limp, good selection of beer, still nobody else had come in. paid and left. Avoid

Good little pub in the middle of the village. Limited beer selection with a few ciders and lagers. I had liver and bacon casserole which was really good and my wife had the pie option which she enjoyed. Has a good garden for the summer but it was definitely inside weather when we visited and they had 2 log fires burning whilst we were there. Lovely church opposite.

We turned up ravenous on Friday around 6pm after a horrid drive in terrible traffic. Thankfully they said yes to food and that food was delicious, fresh and hot. The fishcakes for starter and we all had pie and chips with mushy peas and gravy, I had corned beef and potato and they had steak and ale. Very filling, we'd have liked a dessert but if we were honest with ourselves, we had no room for one anyway. The lady was lovely and friendly, bringing my other half's second Guinness to the table. We would definitely return.

Just had a Sunday lunch and I can't see what all the negative reviews are about. I get it that each visit is individual but the staff are very welcoming and the food it's great. We had the leg of lamb which just melted in your mouth along with various vegetables. It was all cooked to perfection. We also had our bestest boy Archie with us (he's a dog lol) who was very pleased with the treats from Debbie. The beer garden is a little sun trap (providing the weather plays ball, you can't blame the pub for that) and it's located in a lovely country village setting.

Unfortunately not a good experience at all! Arrived early service and seated. Drinks served and then took order. Menu was different to advertised and very limited …so limited that two mains were not available. Atmosphere was not welcoming, waitress was abrupt and ignored one of us. Gave order and then returned to say what was ordered was no longer available. Went with other pie option which was not good quality. I settled bill asap and interestingly not asked about the meal. I would not recommend. Just very disappointed at lack of wanting to give a good service.

Staying at the local campsite (a short walk away) we decided to visit the Wheatsheaf for a couple of pints before dinner, while giving the dog some exercise too. We arrived soon after 5pm (opening time on a Tuesday). We tried the hand-pulled cask ale (not sure of the name Abbey something, nice pint) also the draught Peroni and Cider, all very palatable. We sat in the garden, which filled up quickly. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. Dog friendly too.

Typical old pub and not the quirky type. We called for what they described as “ home cooked” by home cooked I think they meant off the shelf pie and ready meal breaded fish. These were £8.95 each. The chips were generic frying chips from a bag. Even if your staying near by don’t be tempted to “give it a go” drive on and find somewhere else, I’ve had nicer food in chain restaurants. Beer was ok though, so ok for a pint although, my husband said it tasted a bit funky? I don’t drink lager much so I trust his more expert palette. All in all not a great experience I’m afraid. We didn’t go back even for a drink despite staying in the area for a week. Peroni was £4.50 a pint cider was £3.50 a pint.

We were staying locally for a hen weekend and booked to go to the Wheatsheaf Inn on Saturday night for a meal and drinks. Mary was brilliant, and so helpful from the minute I first spoke to her to make the booking. We were having difficulties booking a taxi to get us there and back, so Mary even arranged for one of the regulars, Bob, who drives a taxi, to pick us up and take us to the pub, and then to take us back to where we were staying afterwards. (Thanks Bob!). When we got to the Wheatsheaf Inn we were not disappointed. The food was great and so was the service. We also enjoyed joining in with the singing in the bar and were made to feel so welcome. The highlight was getting to meet Mary in person and to say thanks, as we felt she was an honorary hen!! We all love Mary! Thanks again for everything.

The visit started out lovely. Country pub selling food, perfect for us as we were staying locally for a long awaited weekend away. We didn't book but we're given a table in the restaurant without delay. The landlord was pleasant and the girls serving at the table were lovely and tried their best. The drinks were fine and the starters were enjoyable. The problems were with the steaks. I asked for a med/well fillet which I know is sacrilege to some and a struggle for chefs to cook so I advised the server that I understood if the chef need to butterfly the steak to ensure there was no blood. However, when I cut into it, the blood oozed out onto my plate so I asked if it could be cooked more. While it was took away my partner noticed his steak smelt funny, he tried to carry on eating it but he was worried it would make him ill. My steak returned and still had blood in it. I gave some of it to my partner as he had given up eating his. I couldn't even eat my chips as they were swimming in grease, in my opinion they were frozen chips double dipped in the fryer, not home made chips like falsely advertised. The mushrooms were thinly sliced and again fried. We mentioned to the girl that we didn't want to make a fuss but that weren't happy. The reply from the kitchen was that 'because it wasn't all in one piece they weren't prepared to do anything' what a sham.... The bill was nearly £60, I'd had 3 forks of food and my partner not much more. We paid the bill and left, the landlord didn't utter a word about the issue and didn't even thank us for the money, then he stood on the doorstep smoking while we left. Poor attempt at intimidation, all because we let the girls know our steaks weren't right! Don't put steaks on your menu if you can't cook them....

The door to the Gents is also "interesting".The staff coped well with our party - with eight of us for the Sunday lunch including a couple of lively children. This used to be such a fun lively pub with a very good restaurant - how times have changed. We entered the cold bar, only ash was left from the previous evening's fire, to be told rather frostily that we were early but this shouldn't have been a problem as there was absolutely no-one in the bar and a solitary table of two in the restaurant.Whilst the food itself was OK the service left lots to be desired - we were there at the table for two hours and were still waiting for our desert order to be taken, so we called it a day and left early.Such a shame, food was OK (not good), restaurant room was OK but, as there were only four tables in the restaurant, the time taken to serve us was unacceptable!

My husband and I booked a table as we were staying nearby. The welcome was OK, we both ordered rump steak with Diane sauce. The steak was ordered rare, but what arrived was grey and clearly not cooked on a high enough heat, it was also gristly and not very flavoursome. There was an uncooked tomato half plonked on top. Mushrooms were deep fried and released oil when bitten into. Chips were hand cut and the only good part of the meal. The Diane sauce contained no mushrooms and was made with whole grain mustard, it shoul be Dijon, and no evidence of brandy. All in all a horrible meal, I complained but was told by the barman when paying that he had worked in London and Manchester and there is mustard in Diane sauce (he admitted it shouldn't be whole grain) but there was no point discussing further we just wanted to leave. Too many young staff to deal properly with customers, no sign of the owners, a very bad experience.

Enjoyed an excellent roast lunch at this attractive establishment. Good food and attentive staff. Pity there weren't more customers but then it is out of the main holiday season.

Went in on Saturday night of August Bank Holiday and were told that we would have to wait 40mins to even see a menu and order food. Booked for Sunday (our second mistake!) and 40mins after sitting down we got food. I was beyond stressed with the behaviour of staff who appeared to be flapping although only four tables in the restaurant. The food was ok but nothing special which I would expect from the wait. It was truly depressing to see a pub that could be heaving on a bank holiday weekend with the surrounding visitors on caravan and camp sites. Sad reflection on the manager/owner that this isn't the case

Advised to go early to eat I was glad I did, I sat outside and waited, and waited, and eventually was served with very average pub grub, no frills and no extras except by requesting them and this was treated with a sharp look while the landlady stood and gassed with the locals. This pub has the look outside but is a bit of a let down inside ,plain to almost scruffy and no character , it doesn't shout stay and have another pint so I had my one and left.

Limited lunch time menu with bar snacks only. A very basic hot ciabatta with chips took a long time to arrive. No garnish and very bland. Chips left a greasy repeating after taste. Arrived at 12 noon as they opened and went to the ladies toilet which hadn't been cleaned and there was no toilet paper. Rather a strange smell in the bar area. A lime and soda drink was with the cheapest most disgusting lime I have ever drunk. The only resemblance to lime was it was green. The lady behind the bar said 'I suppose you want ice with that well we haven't got any'. So sad as this used to be a great pub and eating place. The new décor and bar has completely spoilt the place.

Went for food really but Mon and Tues have a set menu and didn't open until 4 pm. Very basic food for the money. Shame really because the pub itself is lovely, bar staff were polite but atmosphere was zero. Plenty of car parking but won't be going again.

The food was fantastic and although all fresh and happy to wait the length of the wait should be improved....front of house service needs refinement.

We had a lovely meal here, the food was well prepared and cooked to perfection and tasted lovely. Long wait at the bar but in the restaurant the service was great. The waitress did a great job, she was on her own as they were short staffed but this did not affect the service much at all and she was very attentive. Prices were a bit on the high side though hence the review has not been given 4 out of 5. As a one off its definately worth a visit and a nice place for a special occasion however eating here daily wouldn't be cost effective.

Spent a week in the area, so visited this pub many times. Staff and locals are all very friendly and welcoming. The pub is dog friendly, but there are also dog free areas, if you don't like dogs. Food is good and above pub grub. There is also a good area to sit outside and watch the world go by. Only one real ale on hand pump and that was Doombar, which is not a favourite of mine. New owners since April 2016. Hope to return soon.

Pub with dinner, friendly hosts and generous serves was just the ticket after a long drive to Betws yn Rhos. We were late for dinner but the chef quickly cooked up a great meal.

Visited twice this past weekend with my Husband as we were camping in the area. Food here is superb. Had the steak pie first night. The 2nd we had the Sunday lunch. The best lamb I have ever tasted with gravy to die for! Made to feel very welcome too. A must if your passing through this village.

Our first-choice pub was fully booked on a Thursday evening, so (based on recent encouraging reviews) we decided to re-visit The Wheatsheaf. I am sorry to say that we were very disappointed and will not be back. The welcome was fairly friendly, and the menu was varied with lots of standard pub food to choose from. I went for the "homemade" steak pie and MrP ordered a steak with peppercorn sauce. My pie filling was acceptable, but the pastry was rock hard and the crimping around the edge was far too even to be homemade. The "lashings of gravy" was, unfortunately, from a packet. MrP's steak was deemed just acceptable for the price, but the peppercorn sauce (which I also tried, but wished I hadn't) was definitely not homemade, and was a curry sauce with a couple of peppercorns floating in it. The waitress took it back to the kitchen when MrP said he thought he had been given the wrong sauce, but was told that the chef always made it that way, but it would be knocked off the bill. The chips were OK, and that's the best thing I can say about the meal. A few years ago The Wheatsheaf used to be really good, and we visited every time we were in the area. Quiz nights on Thursdays were a highlight. The current owners will have to up their game to compete with other local pubs. When we were there, between 6.30 and 8pm on a Thursday, there was only one other table of two people eating there, when other pubs were turning us away as they were so busy. Such a shame.

Good welcome, dog allowed in the far end of the pub. Two adult and two children's meals ordered, all plates cleared of food so nothing much else to say. Recommend the rump steak, lovely!

Delicious food and staff couldn’t have been more helpful. We arrived for lunch in a fluster with a hungry baby and an elderly dog on a very wet Tuesday. From the moment we walked in the lobby the staff were lovely, finding us a table in a suitable area and giving us the time and space to get sorted. There was no hurry to order and they bought us coffee and water to heat the baby’s food before we ordered. Once calm was restored and we ordered the service continued to impress and the food was delicious and fairly priced. Credit to all at the hotel.

2 of the main courses were unavailable. The vegetables for the lamb course were unavailable. Alternative vegetables were given which were undercooked and cold. Potato was tasteless and cold . Did mention it to waiter whose response was sorry. £24 for a piece of lamb is unacceptable as I didn't eat the vegetables or potatoes.

Eight adults booked a table here last Wednesday and from the second we stepped into the place we were in love with it. The elegance and charm were extraordinary. Then came the 3 course meal ! Everybody raved about every course. The service was impeccable and if I lived nearer I’d be a regular! Cannot fault one detail .
