A good traditional Manchester pub with friendly locals and a great selection of draught beers.

Old school pub, about the only place in this part of town you can have a drink without the risk of running into hipsters or cockneys. Staff are dead friendly too.

Great local pub, d.j was good and played requests. Good little dance floor, bar staff was very nice and friendly. Beer was good price and not overly priced.

What a brilliant place especially for a Wednesday night kareoke flowing well recommended can't wait for the next one

This used to be one of my favourite pubs in Manchester , Not anymore !!! . After a lovely meal yesterday on the other side of the City Centre we decided to walk over and go in for the Northern Soul . This place closes early due to it being located in the middle of a residential part of the NQ . We left our seats to dance leaving my bag , 2 thirds of a pint and about half a glass of wine on the table . As I was dancing I spotted the glass collector picking up my wine so I called over that I had finished with it . Which in my opinion was quite obvious The Glass was put back on the table . The glass had been picked up as they do by putting there fingers into the glass , So I didn't particularly want to finish this being unsure of how clean the hand had been , So i headed to the bar to ask for the same measure as a replacement in a clean glass . The attitude of the girl was shocking . she basically poured the wine into another glass .She wouldn't listen to anything I was saying and just talked over me I asked what her attitude was for , her answer was that I was being to aggressive , This was not the case .I'd have been removed from the premises if i had of been She then shouted that the wine bottle from the table had been empty . It was I had never implied otherwise . She then really started shouting at me to get away from her bar , At this point a man on my right asked me if I was ok , I replied I wasn't really . The barmaid them screamed at him . Don't you 'f****G get involved with this All the time the Landlady had stood and watched but refused to speak to me as she said the barmaid has already apologised to me ''For What being to aggressive'' Unbelievable!!! . At this point I walked away still with dirty wine in hand . After telling my partner what had happened he spoke to the manager who had been around the dancefloor the entire time No people skills there either Just 2 sides to every story and she was aggressive . Amazing perception when he hadn't even been there . On leaving when i tried to discuss again he patronisingly said . Its not the time or place to discuss this and literally turned his back on me . I will never step foot in this place again and with Customer Care like this I'm probably not the only one . The sad think is the DJ is brilliant and such a lovely man . I'd give him a 5* rating but the staff at this place don't even deserve a 1*

DO NOT ORDER A BOTTLE OF WINE FROM HERE!!! They are charging £14 for a bottle of ALDI wine, their cheapest, and most awful, wine that costs £3.99!! Disgusting RIP OFF!!

Old fashioned bar. Very clean. Good array of drinks. Music was good. Very clean toilets.

Bit of a classic isn’t it… It’s certainly not the best pub in the area but it’s got that eccentric vibe which is worth a visit once a while.

I went onto soul source the nothernsoul website where you can see what venues have what going on and i saw that this pub has a all dayer on . So i was out playing pokemongo because if go fest my other passion . So i was walking back to the car and thought oh id take a look and see if its on and yes it was so i poped in went right on the dance floor .I am a bog northern soul Dancer and lots of people will no me from blackpool etc . Anyways after about 3 or 4 records i was dancing close to the bar when a tap on the shoulder - i tunr round and it was the barmaid and she said you have to buy a drink i said why she said well everyone else has ,i was that perplexed by what she was again that i really didnt know what to say so i just said oh orange juice ,which at that time and point i didnt want a drink but i would have bough one later cause i planned on staying till the end , so anyway paid for the ornage juice , and meet some frined of mine in there who know me from soul suite blackpool . So i was thinking abiout it and i gave the ornag juice back to the land landy which she must have thrown away , and i finshed dancing at about 5 and i was going to get a drink but then thought no ill just go home , so as i was going out i saw the landlady , so i had a word with her , She said they have lots of people going to the toilet from the street which i get is irratating , but she also said she was within her right to ask me to buy a drink , ive never been in a pub where you have been forced to get a drink befofe you was ready to get one , i went to the pud because of the all dayer that was on for the music , the music was great as where the dj but i wouldnt recomend the venue for anyone who really into nothernsoul due to be forced to buy a drink i really didnt want at the time and then being told i have to buy one becaise everyone else had bought one .

This is a down-to-earth Pub in between the northern Quarter and Ancoats. Inside, it is a large place with a good atmosphere but this time it was sunny so we didn't even bother going in other to buy drinks! What was nice as they've got a small beer garden out in the street where you can soak in the Sun whilst enjoying a beer or two from their selection. This is pretty large and the prices are not bad at all for the city centre. The staff are friendly and the service very nice so I would say it is definitely worth a visit.

Travelled from Conwall on Friday to spend the weekend in Manchester, absolutely love this pub and everything about it, Staff are so nice and friendly, the owners are amazing people. The pub was packed for bank holiday weekend and the entertainment was fab. Couldn't of asked for a better weekend ❤️

Absolutely awful place. Two woman started on a friend and my self. Offering us outside. They must of been in their 50s and more than likely locals. Young woman behind the bar asked us to go outside to chat. Which we did and she had no people skills whatsoever. Totally unprofessional. Disgusting. Just balled and shouted over me. Never listened. Walked off and left us outside without our belongings. She obviously attracted the same kind of clientele as herself. Avoid this place!

Not sure they sell much food, but the pub has a great atmosphere, full of life and characters.

A few of us called in here on a Thursday afternoon and had a mixed time really. The service is friendly enough but there are some real characters around the pub and to be honest I wasn't sure what to make of many of them. There seem to be a lot of coming and going from the toilets And a lot of very loud people as well. They have a standard range of drinks at city centre prices but the ones we had the shipyard wasn't well kept at all and I didn't really enjoy it. It isn't the worst pub around but there's many better in the vicinity so it will be a while before we go back.

Come in every weekend and always have a good time. Last night though a couple of the barmaids had a bad attitude and overpriced me on one of the drinks i should have questioned it at the time such a spiteful and vindictive woman she was

Called in just for a quick one, ended up staying all night. Atmosphere was great,staff were great, people in there were great.

Love going here. you’d probably never wander past the gaff as it’s quite well hidden despite being in the middle of the northern quarter! What makes this place tick are the staff. I don’t know if they’re all one big happy family but that’s how it comes across, especially the older lady who always looks like she’s having the time of her life. OK there’s no craft ales which is a shame but if you just want a good laugh with your mates in a good old fashioned boozer that has reasonable priced drinks then this is the place to go. The juke box always seems to have some bangers playing and they also have northern soul nights and afternoons as well. There is a good mix of character locals, footy fans and groups out in town for day and a nice mix of age ranges as well.

The best pub in Manchestee, fantastic staff, brilliant DJ's, the epitome of a traditional boozer.

We poped into the wheatsheaf pub tucked away in the back streets of the busy Northern Quater next to Manchester craft centre, we couldn't believe how busy it for a mid week night , there was with a DJ playing a mixture of different tunes to suits everyone needs . As we walked towards the bar the staff were ready and waiting to serve us really fast serving and no waiting around even so it was busy The place was spotless even the wooden dance for was shining , most of all the toilets were clean and didn't smell unlike some of the venues we went into on our pub crawl Over all good professional service by staff and a clean and tidy venue it's well worth a visit if your in the area

Visited yesterday and enjoyed a few Guinness whilst on a trip to see Black Crowes in Manchester...... probably the best pub in Manchester; fantastic music, friendly staff and great beers! Update - 20 Dec 2023 Another opportunity to visit..... never displeased. Quality endures!

Robert and Lisa are so welcoming there's a fantastic atmosphere robert sings and entertains customers they really do come first ! He also gets stuck in behind the bar you will never see him say down and l isa and the barstaff are a joy

Didn't get a chance to swing by but we were trying to get into our Airbnb nearby and the owner of The Wheatsheaf came over to help without asking for anything. Lovely man and his business is always lively but not noisy throughout our stay. Will be back to specifically visit - cozy lovely corner pub.

An absolutely amazing hidden back street gem pub, the landlords Robert and Lisa absolutely awesome, nothing is to much trouble, a cosy cool boozer, that's had so much work done to it over the last few years and they take very good care, of the pub, the customers and the staff. The landlord Robert has an amazing singing voice and regular holds karaoke, Elaine an icon in herself, such a wonderful asset to the wheatsheaf as are the girls on the bar, highly recommend popping down to a safe, clean, warm welcoming pub a home from home. Everyone goes above and beyond and they make each and everyone customer feel very welcome, pop down for really great priced drinks, great wine selections and a good chit chat thankyou x

Music far to loud .can't move in there .Hard work for a man to get to the toilet. As drunk woman dancing in crowds in the gap where u walk just at the bar .be patient. And be ready to dodge people out of way to get to toilet .and bring some ear plugs as people singing on karokee is far to loud .needs turning down. Wee on seats too.

Traditional no frills pub -called in today for a tribute afternoon to a regular ‘Motown Kev’ -friendly bar staff , great atmosphere and good prices . My only gripe is there are no locks on the ladies toilets but other than that a great little pub !

Unique crowd for a city centre boozer. Probably the last of it's kind, a world away from the trendier joints in the NQ. Enjoy while you still can.

Popped into here while exploring the northern quarter, wasnt sure if was a locals only sort of pub as was close to housing estate. When we walked in we were immediately welcomed by the barman/landlord, who asked how we were and what we'd like to drink, got drinks found a table and watched the match, whilst talking to numerous locals, friendly pub, good beer

Went in for drink , great place to go friendly ,very busy , dancing singing , staff lovely . Price for drinks not bad , went a couple of times , people welcoming

Was in with friends, Sat 4th Nov. Helped us with side access as we had a friend in a wheelchair. Barstaff superb, even brought drinks to the table for us. Music was excellent.

Came here with friends, one of whom was in a wheelchair. Robert the landlord was so helpful, couldn't do enough for us and found a table we could all sit at. Had a few pints, the dark haired girl behind the bar (sorry didn't catch your name) was also really friendly. Will definitely come back next time I'm in Manchester. Thank you!

Attended the Sunday soul session. Great music and atmosphere, lots soulies there and great conversation.

A fascist and rascist establishment accusing my friend of dealing drugs due to his ethnic background. Despicable.

Another abomination to society. I live locally in the area and decided to come here with some ethnically diverse friends visiting from abroad. Suddenly out of nowhere we had the manager acuse my friends of dealing drugs. We abhorrently confused and tried to get an explanation for the accusation but to no avail we decided to just leave. As a local we feel offended, embarrassed and discriminated. Hopefully the establishment can assess this and make justifiable changes.

Kicked me and my friends out after accusing us of dealing drugs with no proof of us doing so. Then refused myself or any of my friends entry to the pub to retrieve our belongings. The manger/owner offered no assistance to return our property. This is actually theft. Our ID's, bank cards and money we had to leave. Have since contacted the police.
