Have just returned home from Sunday lunch at the Wheatsheaf Urton joyce nottingham. We have eaten there many times and been quite happy with all aspects. Today's experience was poor and took just 2 hours for one course. The staff throughout were curtious although a little distracted. The food was good apart from the greens (cabbage and leek) which were very undercooked. They actually squeaked as you ate them as they would if raw, crackling was missing but arrived when requested and the pork was dry. Speed of service was the big issue. It took approx an hour to receive our main course (we did not order starters). We received the puddings list and were going to order puddings but when 1/2 an hour passed and no one came to take our order we gave up, paid the bill and left. Observations of other diner's tables indicated that the speed of service was similar elsewhere. We are hoping this is an isolated experience and not a sign of things to come.

Me and my mate went for food and a catch up, as we haven't seen each other properly for a few months. We both had the lamb shank shepherds pie for main. It was so filling that i couldn't finish mine, but also wanted to save room for pudding 😉. We then had the salted caramel sundae for dessert. Both dishes were lovely. The service was great. Staff were really friendly and we didn't feel rushed to pay the bill and leave. We were actually there for around 4 hours chatting away, with the staff leaving us to it and only popping over a couple of times to check if we wanted anymore drinks. We went for Sunday dinner and I have to say, it’s the worst I have ever had. Having paid for the 3 roasts I expected a large meal . The meats were poor and small servings, the veg was mixed and soggy too. They forgot the stuffing and the Yorkshire could have been crushed to dust as it was overdone. For the price the meal was appalling, I will say the roast potatoes were good though.

Having had an excellent experience before we decided to go for dinner on a Friday night. Unfortunately this visit did not match up to our previous one. The food was slow despite the place looking fairly empty (I could be wrong though!), and when it did arrive it wasn’t the best. I had the chicken strips and they were so, so thin and extremely chewy, the croquettes tasted like oil over anything else, the smothered chicken was more bacon than chicken and tasted like the chicken was frozen and not fresh (although this was not confirmed), the sea bass was full of bones to the point it was virtually inedible, and the steak was cremated despite asking for it to be done medium - it’s such a shame because we’ve had great experiences before this! Considering the prices I expected much better quality of food. I’m sad to say I think this was our last visit unfortunately.

We booked for two courses for £16.50 Thursday 20 June. On entry to the pub we passed the top bar only to be shouted at CAN WE HELP YOU in a loud voice which was humiliating. Only two tables were occupied but the waitress who shouted made us wait some time until she found a table. Despite the meal not being up to standard our main concern was the attitude of the waitress Tracey. She was provocative and seemed to enjoy creating issues. As we sat down we overheard a dispute on another table regarding an overpayment which finished with a remark from a customer "we will come back but on your night off". My wife ordered the only chicken dish on the menu but Tracey snapped which chicken dish - there was a vegetarian dish with an option of chicken for an extra £3.00. When we were presented with the bill she had charged us full price for the two courses instead of the agreed offer. When we pointed this out she snatched the bill away and returned stating "I didn't press the button" NO APOLOGY. We left feeling badly treated, unwanted and definitely not welcome due to her attitude. The food was mediocre but Tracey brings the Wheatsheaf into disrepute. We booked this meal on the basis of our last visit when the food and customer service - different waiters - was faultless. Will we be returning???

The service.. absolutely disgraced, me and my partner went here for tea on a Saturday and the man who gave us or table was very rude, at first he didn’t even want to give us a table, then when he did we were not offered drinks until a young waitress who was very nervous came over and sorted our drinks and food (she was lovely). A family were then sat down on the table next to us by the same rude man who seated us, except they were offered drinks, a jug of water, they all had a great laugh and chat. I believe this was because the family were much more upper class. I am not happy with the service from this man AT ALL. Will not be returning.

Have visited three or four times over past few months and not had reason to complain. But this visit 28April was somewhat disappointing. First there was no Rib Beef, Turkey or Cauliflower Cheese. Second,,the Squid Starter was at best tepid. Our other starter, Chicken Strips was okay. So the trio of roasts became a duo, The accompanying veg, carrots and peas was just very bland, the stuffing was like an ice hockey puck, and after asking for the Roast Potatoes, they came more like recently fried potatoe chunks or in some cases, bits. The pie main was okay again, but those two dishes let down by some extremely thick gravy. The battered cod was over cooked and the portion of mushy peas could have sat under your eyelid. So overall, well below par. Staff are good, maybe a tadge over attentive, but still good. Best part was the Timothy Taylor’s Bitter. Will come again, but I think on this occasion you let yourselves down on the food.

We have been going to the Wheatsheaf three or four times a year for perhaps about 20 years or so . Yesterday was a wedding anniversary ,so an evening meal there seemed a good idea . But the whole experience this time was far below average . Our first choices on the full menu were all unavailable . No sirloin steak , no salmon .no sea bass, no cod loin. We ended up with Belly Pork and a Rump steak .The meals arrived on cold plates - always a bad sign . All the food was no better than warm apart from the skin on fries that had obviously been freshly cooked. My wife,s Rump steak was pretty small and grisly and could only eat half of it . My belly pork just didnt look or taste appealing . The desert to follow ( mini pud) was miniscule in size and was a tasteless mush and it was just left on the plate not consumed. So all in all it was a pretty poor night . I paid the bill but didnt have the heart to complain about everything as it would just leave a sour taste on the evening . its possible that there has been a recent change of management and personel as we didnt recognise anyone serving . I fear the worst for the Wheatsheaf if things do not improve rapidly . There is much local competition serving a similar menu .

Our first meal at this venue for several years and we certainly won't leave it so long before returning. Friendly, attentive though not overbearing service was followed by a delicious meal, certainly a notch or two above a standard pub lunch. My wife's Cod Loin melted in her mouth, while the welcome addition of a gravy jug with my substantial Signature Burger, went so well with my crunchy chips. Unfortunately such hearty fare left no room for a desert, so we'll look forward sampling a couple of those on our next visit.

We went to this pub because normally this chain does really good food normally . However on this occasion we were a bit disappointed. We ordered two Sunday lunches . They didn’t look that special on arrival , it didn’t take us long to realise they didn’t taste anything special either . The roast potatoes were rock hard in fact inedible . I had to ask for a replacement , if I was a betting person I’d say they were frozen roast potatoes not nice ones either . The stuffing was also rock hard & the veg didn’t taste quite right either . My husband had the turkey which he said was very bland I had the sirloin of beef which was ok but not great . It wasn’t particularly cheap , certainly compared to the Toby carvery which offers much better food quite a bit cheaper . If you like aunt Bessie’s you might like a Sunday lunch here but I think I could’ve done one twice as nice as that in a pretty short space of time . The bill was £41 for two dinners 1 pint & 1 coke pretty steep for such a low quality meal . There are better pubs doing much better Sunday lunches in the area don’t spend your money here .

Love the decor. The server was polite and helpful, but had the irritating way of saying "No problem at all" (a silly Americanised platitude, a pet hate of mine)after we made our selection. My meal was advertised as GRILLED salmon, but was, in fact, microwaved, pale, overcooked and bland - apart from the sauce. Sauteed potatoes were the same - microwaved, soggy and bland. A few bits of asparagus didn't make up for it. My sister-in-law, however, enjoyed her HUGE vegetable dish. (she doesn't get out a lot) Not a place I'd rush to go back to.

I came on Sunday evening with my parents and ate a Roast Dinner with a mushroom wellington which was burnt and dry. The roast potatoes were small and few in number. The vegetables were acceptable. We ordered cauliflower cheese and that was a 4 florets with a tea spoon of cheese sauce poured over the top. Extremely poor quality would not recommend or visit again.

Perhaps the best vegan Sunday roast I've had in 22 years of veganism! Really good food and great beers to wash it down. Thank you, we'll be back!

Attended a 60th birthday party on 9/11/2024 which was being held upstairs away from the other pub customers that were down stairs .Then come 10pm a member of staff came upstairs and told the hosts of the party that all children under seventeen had to leave this establishment as football had now finished .Did staff at this pub think we were having a party so we could watch football and also as the legal drinking age is 18 why was only under 17 years old asked to leave .May I also add that none of the children at this party running about and being disruptive to customers down stairs the only time they went down stairs was either to go with their parents to the bar or visit the rest rooms .So for the life of me cannot understand why children were asked to leave This was upsetting for several children and left many parents trying to arrange transport home at such short notice and may I add some of us do not live in Nottingham itself .I this is your policy then I suggest when people book your rooms for parties you make them aware of the 10pm rule ,and many thanks (not) for ruining a wonderful ladies 60th birthday party

First time visitor. What a great Sunday lunch we had! Party of seven, and literally every one of us agreed the food was excellent. Meat cooked to perfection for everyone's different tastes, delicious vegetables, and the roasties with truffle and parmesan so good! 🤤 Staff were really friendly and helpful, the decor great, and really good value. That definitely won't be the last time we visit the Lambley!

This review is purely based on the approach drive at the place. Absolutely disgraceful. Scraping the bottom of my car due to the potholes. Quite a few people at the wedding reception were complaining. The venue itself was first class with excellent service. But they must get the road sorted. I would imagine it would be slightly better in summer, but I wouldn't touch the place in winter

I have booked for one of their events. Breakfast with Santa. My kiddo is allergic to many things, including her own mucus. As she had a bit of snot she was coughing pretty much constantly. She is also autistic and so am I. That being said, I tried for a few days to contact them over the phone to discuss our needs. I also enquired on my booking about their ability to accommodate us. No answer on the phone, no reply to my written enquiry. Why on earth I decided that is a good idea to proceed when I already had all this?! Well, they were completely overwhelmed and unprepared for their own event. Because my kiddo was coughing I chose to leave her outside (within view) until I got to discuss the situation and requested to be sat away from other people so we don’t upset them. I ended up having to keep my kiddo outside for over 10 minutes. They were also abrupt and rude whilst dealing with us. IE enquired if can be sat separately and the lady that answered said that it can be done but I still need to wait in the cue (okay, never in question) Than I been left to wait alone in the cue, although I had told them that the kiddo was waiting outside! Nobody even acknowledged my presence until another parent can and I started to fuss out loud to the other person As for the allergies… dear god. No substitutes (I mean for essentials like some oat or coconut milk), they could not show me how to look for the allergens on the menu, on the buffet they did not have the allergens on the products displayed. Just bad! The food was also bad. Very bad. My kiddo barely touched hers I am not even going into accommodations for her autism as I would be absurd given the level of awareness and quality of service Except for one person that was actually working with Santa, everyone else was rushed, uninformed, rude, unhelpful, almost angry to be there and to be part of the event. Also, £20 for two kids breakfasts?! So no, never again for us
