Absolutely love this place. Relaxed friendly atmosphere. Amazing food, fabulous service. All staff were very professional, polite and more importantly happy. Lovely to see a small pub thriving in the current economic climate. Clearly many of the people eating and drinking are regulars given the banter between them and the staff. To the gentleman who posted about waiting to be served and sitting in the restaurant part of the pub, I feel that your review is harsh, given that you had a friendly welcome (maybe not in the format you wished) and were asked whether you were eating is extremely reasonable in my eyes. It's a real shame you didn't try the food too.

Ordering a pint of bitter and a pint of bitter shandy here seemed to take an age, almost as if it was a rare request. The atmosphere seemed alright in the bar area - to the right as you enter - but we could only find a seat in the dining area, which was furnished in a manner unbefitting with the age of the place. We were quite randomly asked ‘Are you guys eating or…’ without any friendly greeting, which always puts me off. Can’t stand my wife being addressed as part of the ubiquitous ‘guys’ greeting either. Not somewhere I would want to spend money.

Quick visit to Yarmouth and tried the Wheatsheaf upon recommendation by lady next shop and it was worth it! Lovely place with warm welcoming staff and great food. Ordered soup of the day- tomato and pepper soup, crispy fried prawns, veggie pakoras and a small portions of fish and chips. All dishes were really good, the veggie pakoras looked bit overdone but tasted ok. Soup was very refreshing with the side of a fresh and warm focaccia . The sticky toffee pudding was the best, very soft pudding, not too sweet and a perfect toffee sauce! Overall, great quick stop near the ferry point. Definitely recommend!

A great little pub in the heart of Yarmouth. They have made some attractive outdoor seating and on most days provide live music. The seating outside is more limited than indoors but they have made the most of what they have. Food was serviced quickly and efficiently even though they were busy. We visited for lunch on my birthday, whilst on holiday on the Isle of Wight. We had looked around Yarmouth, and found some of the eateries far too expensive for a simple lunch. We opted for The Wheatsheaf based on no prior experience, as it is the first time we've been to Yarmouth. We both went for the fish and chips and we were pleased we did as they were delicious! Light, crispy, non-greasy batter and tasty chips with a side of mushy peas. The food was served piping hot and appeared to have been freshly cooked. The red wine I had was delicious and my OH had a pint of local ale, which he also enjoyed. Tables were clean, as were the toilets. The staff were friendly and quite clearly rushed off their feet, but our wait for food and drink was nothing out of the ordinary. I would highly recommend this as a place to eat if you find yourself in Yarmouth.

The Wheatsheaf in Yarmouth is a real find, I can't believe I've missed out on coming here sooner! Their takeaway window serves the most incredible brisket, burnt ends, cheese slaw, crab etc and the portions are large. For the money, this is incredible value. I'll be back very very soon. If you're landing on the island, or leaving via the Yarmouth ferry, you simply must not buy cruddy food on the boat, either wait and visit here when you disembark, or buy some to take into the boat. One meal would definitely serve 2 people! My highest recommendation. The guys are super friendly, too, and happy to talk about ingredients, allergens etc. A+++

Given Yarmouth is "shut" at this time of year, the choices for late lunch were limited to two pubs. We chose this one on the basis it wasn't advertising Burns Night celebrations.Relatively quiet, cheerful and helpful service which delivered our sizzling dishes promptly. No option for "medium rare" so sizzling dish provided on-going cooking for a rather rare steak, plus cooking for otherwise cold, uncooked onions. Onion rings themselves were good. Tomato on the cusp of insufficiently cooked. Companion's gammon was a bit dry. Chips were real potatoes - a very pleasant experience, not those reconsistituted horrors. A good option that worked for us but summer competition probably wins.

Time for Sunday dinner with the family. Picked the Wheatsheaf as other pubs were full, (should of seen that as a sign!) .The roast was a good price, and the small portion one was right for my elderly mother. However my daughter had the Chicken and bacon burger, which she felt tasted "strange and off". We mentioned this to the manager and she removed the bacon. This put my daughter off the rest of her meal. When it came time to pay I asked for that meal to be removed from the bill the manager refused to do that, saying she had tried it and it was fine, it was just the spicy cheese that we could taste. No it wasn't! There was something wrong with the bacon. However the manager refused to remove the price of the whole meal, and gave us a 50% reduction instead. When are business owners going to learn to treat there customers well. And realise a happy customer is worth more that the price of a refund of one meal?So go here if there is nowhere else, it could be worst, but don't try and complain.
