Great sensibly priced delicious lunch options served efficiently and pleasantly to our party of 7. The fish and chips were large and crisp, the pie excellent and I enjoyed my fish cakes. Big bowl of good veg for the table.

We detoured off of the A1 because of a monster sized traffic jam and came across the pub by accident. We loved it there, after being stuck in the car for a couple of hours and barely moving, this place was a godsend. We were tired, hungry and stressed, but sitting in the bar area, which was peaceful and welcoming, we started to chill out. We ordered some sandwiches, we arrived quickly and were delicious. The staff were wonderful. Thank you!!!

Had Sunday lunch here after a recommendation from a friend. Plenty of tables available inside & outside both in the garden and under the verandah - Nice to see as nothing worse than having to wait for a table. Easy ordering at the bar and very prompt and friendly service. The food was lovely & very reasonably priced. My partner had the roast pork dish which had plenty of meat & trimmings/ veg (more than usual) and I enjoyed the burger. Both dishes were very enjoyable. For desserts I had the chocolate brownie & Ice cream & my partner the waffle & ice cream / syrup. Again both dishes were very nice. Would recommend a visit to this place if you're in the area & looking to eat.

Arranged to meet a rellie who lives in the next village for lunch here and it did not disappoint. The pub itself still feels like a pub although most people come here to eat. Two interconnected rooms with the carpeted one to the with the main bar feeling more like a dining room and the one to the left with the open wood burner have large settees and more of a lounge feel. The menu is traditional pub fayre at a reasonable price point and all four dishes we had were considered very good. I went for the steak and ale pie and requested if I could have mash instead of chips or new potatoes, and even though it wasn’t on the menu the kitchen granted the wish, which I thought was a good touch. On the beer front its an Everards House with four beer pulls on the bar. Everards Tiger was doubled up and the seasonal Everards Sunchaser Golden Ale was on another and a cider was on the fourth. Wasn’t the best pint of Tiger I have had but it was passable enough. If I lived in either Edith Weston, Normanton or North Luffenham and could walk to this pub, I wouldn’t be complaining.

Been here a few times. Last time was Sunday 24th March. Roast was nice with a dish of fresh vegetables. Also ordered Stilton and Mushroom Risotto which seemed a tiny portion but curiously was just a sauce as only a few grains of rice in it, the garlic bread gave it the most substance. Not an enjoyable dish.

I have been hearing about the delicious lunches here, particularly the gammon steak from my husband. When we visited the area this weekend, we went with my in-laws. We didn't order a huge variety. Despite many mouth-watering choices, three of us ordered chicken, leek and ham pie and one had the gammon steak. Everything came to the table piping hot, fresh and delicious. The combination of the pie, chips and fresh peas was outstanding. The local beers were flavourful. Service: the owner was very considerate of my father-in-law who has mobility problems. The area where we were seated was on the level of the entrance. There were no steps and the owner made sure that the seating was comfortable. The wait staff were attentive and prompt, but not intrusive. The décor is pleasant - traditional but fresh and clean looking. There is a wood fire in an adjoining room; perfect for a cold evening. A sheltered beer garden is at the front entrance of the pub, under a marquee at the moment, but that may change in the warmer months. I would like to come back in the summer. I hope to make visiting the Edith Weston Wheatsheaf a habit; there were too many dishes I would like to try.

We were part of a group sailing at Rutland Water and a crowd of us visited the pub on Monday to socialise. Despite coinciding with another large group, the staff catered for us all admirably. Better still, the grub was cooked to perfection. Even better, on a sweltering hot summer evening, the pint of Everards 'Sunchaser' quelled the thirst perfectly. So much so that we returned the next night for more of the same!

We are doing a little pub tour of our home county and popped along for a bite to eat on a Saturday evening and had a lovely meal and pint sat outside in the marquee area. I was hoping there would be more of a pretty outdoor garden area, but it did the job. The inside looked really lovely. We had the chicken breast and a steak pie, both really nicely cooked with fresh salad and vegetables. Service was excellent, a really nice unpretentious but nicely cooked meal in a great location. Bog standard ribs, scampi, burgers kind of food. The chips were excellent, but the rest was the type of thing thats bought in frozen and reheated from Brakes. The huge plastic banner advertising Steak cheaply should have told us this, but there was nothing else open in the area. First impressions weren't great, 3 whole blackboards with lists of RULES as you go in and the stench from the loos right by the front door was very offputting. It was the smell of those block things in the mens urinals that wafted to us at our table everytime the front door opened. The food was hot and like i said the chips were lovely, but the salad was undressed and i had to ask for tartar sauce for my scampi. But hey ho. It was fairly empty on a lunchtime, but it gets some great reviews, so some people obviously like it! Just not for me.

Came in for a meal here with my stepson after a lovely bike ride around rutland water. My stepsons burger came out with little speckles of mould on the bun. We brought this to the staffs attention and the owner (John) came over with a very arrogant approach and could not take any criticism about this below average food. All my son wanted was another bun and some polite customer service and this would have resolved this matter. BUT NO BUN WAS OFFERED. Instead he goes back into the kitchen and grabs the bag of bread rolls and chucks them on the table in front of him saying 'for your concern' in an aggressive manor. We were both shocked and instead of causing a scene he decided to pick off the the mould and eat the burger. Not something that we expected to do in a restaurant. I'm not sure if John has rubbed off on his staff but one came over to collect the plates and could not of looked more unhappy if she tried. No thank you or no how was the meal. John if you ran this business and relied off local custom you would be out of business a long time ago with your average food and terrible customer service skills. The only reason I can think to why you are in business is that you get random people come to you each time through the tourism around the area.I also run a business and it amazes me that you treat customers like this. Your responses on trip adviser speak for themselves of how you respond to criticism and how you have lied and made my stepson out to be in the wrong. I don't care how many positive reviews you have as you can get the negative ones deleted from trip adviser, but if you actually cared about the customer you wouldn't have to state this comment and you would actually be more concerned about there negative experience. A little bit of advise that you could really do with is, a negative customer experience can be turned into a positive if you had some good customer service skills. If you got a bit of filler and filled in that chip on your shoulder you might actually get better on in life. Hopefully the recession that is coming will make way for a better business to take over this restaurant.

All he had to do was get me a new bun or other something else yet he was rude and obnoxious. Too big of an ego to be be honest and sort it out like he should of. My wife and I called in for a pint and a sandwich on the way back from Rutland water. Ordered the sandwiches from a pleasant girl at the bar, half of lager for the wife and a pint of real ale for me.I drank a third of the pint before I had to give up. The beer was fine - not cloudy in the slightest - but tasted tart and vinegary. I went back to the bar and ordered a pint of lager for myself instead. I didn't make a fuss or ask for a replacement even though I should have, I just asked the bar staff to tell the landlord that the pipes needed cleaning, paid for my pint and went back to my sandwich.Ten minutes later the landlord came over and had a go at us for daring to suggest his lines weren't clean. No "I'm sorry you weren't happy" or " is there anything I can do to make it better" Just an aggressive response to some helpful criticism. He cleans his lines "religiously every Friday morning" apparently. Well, if you're reading this landlord, try starting the process on Thursday night instead because your pipes are infected. Leave the fluid in 12 hours and spend the time reading up on customer service.I wouldn't have rushed back for over-priced, lacklustre food anyway, but given the attitude of the fella running the place I wouldn't recommend it on any basis.

We visited The Wheatsheaf at 4pm on a wet Sunday afternoon after a walk on the Rutland Water path. We were a group of 9, with 4 adults and 5 kids aged 10-15. The pub was fairly busy, although obviously past the Sunday lunch rush. We were seated straight away with menus handed out immediately, and had friendly service for drinks at the bar. Most of our group opted for the roast dinner, with others having scampi, burger or a choice from the children's menu. The food arrived in about 15mins, and all the meals came very close together, which is often tricky for larger groups. Generous portions and nice hot food, good servings of vegetables with the Sunday roast. We all had dessert from the choices on the blackboard, and all were very good, with the profiteroles being a favourite with the kids. All in all a very successful meal in a welcoming, cosy pub with friendly and efficient staff. We'd definitely return if we are in the area again.

We had lovely meals two consecutive evenings. Good welcome as soon as we stepped through the door. 4 specials and a good pub menu. The steak was really tender and the chips just right. Chicken pie was delicious. The cannelloni was extra good and a varied salad. Gammon pineapple , egg and chips as good as we had had anywhere. Despite it being quite busy the staff gave us really good attention. Would definitely come again when in the area.

Eight of us met up for the day visiting family at nearby Uppingham School. We walked to the pub and were quickly found a table. Even the dog was welcome! The service was a little slow, but it was busy for their obviously popular Sunday lunch. We had a range of food, all was excellent. A great place.

We have lunched here on 2 previous occasions and because we have always had excellent food and great service it was an obvious choice. We we not disappointed on our third visit. Son had Ploughman’s which was excellent. My wife and I had baguettes which were huge but delicious. Accompanying salad was neatly presented.

Not our 1st visit. And won't be our last. My husband went for the gammon - no egg or pineapple. Was offered battered onion rings instead.

Our first visit for a evening meal to this Dog Friendly Pub from a nearby campsite, wondering why we’ve not been before? The food was excellent, steak cooked just as ordered & Moules & frites off the specials board were delicious. The staff were all friendly & helpful & we won’t wait for another stormy night to go back for more. Many thanks to everyone, see you soon.

On visiting for a drink one afternoon I was met with what I can only describe as the most patronising, rude member of staff. My Gin was served in a small child's lemonade glass and on asking for a Gin glass was met with "why would I want a tiny gin served in a big glass so I can put my little hands around it and look at it". I was then followed outside and was told they do not serve Gin in a gin glass because customers steal them. Think customer service training is needed. I will not be visiting again even though I am local. After all would beer in a mug be acceptable? Below a picture of a Gin in the correct glass for reference. Gin lovers avoid.

I was part of a group staying at the nearby Normanton Best Western. This is the nearest pub and a pleasant walk away along the edge of the reservoir in the right weather.

Stopped in for dinner just because we were near. Friendly barkeep and waitress answered some questions about beers and menu. We had the Haddock and chips and the Boozie meat pie. Both were very good. Huge fish portion, delishious, and the batter light and flakey. Meat pie(steak and ale) was rich and tender. Great meal!

On a Sunday this was very popular and the restaurant area was full but it was a glorious day and so we were able to sit outside. We had the Sunday lunch which was delicious and served nicely with the meat and potatoes plated and the vegetables separately. It looked like a very tidy plate of food and tasted great. It isn't the cheapest place to eat and soft drinks were expensive but the food was good. Clearly popular with the locals and for a good reason.

I have to say that when I first came here it felt like I had come to my local. Everyone in there is not a stranger but rather a friend that I am yet to meet. Thanks for the warm welcome but can you make the burger a tad bit smaller please?! It was delicious but hard to finish!

We had a meal here the other night. It was by far and away the best meal we had in the area on our 7 day holiday. The steak I had was superb, better than in many restaurants and my partner's burger was good too. Service was efficient and attentive. A very well run establishment.

Excellent pub food we had whitebait to share which came promptly with a spare plate to share. Chicken pie was fab with real pieces of tasty chicken served with gravy. The burgers were excellent too as was the vegetarian option of which there were many. Highlight though was the staff the landlord is lucky to have them.

A beautiful place. The staff are really friendly, the interior is quaint and the food is excellent. If you cycle around Rutland Water (which you should), The Wheatsheaf is on the map given to you, so is easy to find. Highly recommended.

Food is good but not great pub grub. The lasagnes are terrible. The bechemal sauce comes as a slice The meat sauce is dry and the vegetable lasagne comes with a pile of veg in the middle.

There were very few others on the day that we went but the place was pleasant and had a nice ambience about it. The food was very good, well prepared, served hot and very tasty. Service was efficient but I can imagine that in the summer when visitors abound there could a short wait, although they did seem very organised. Slight drawback was that the bar and serving staff were a little short of 'bedside manner' hardly a smile raised but as I have said very efficient. Perhaps we caught them on an off day as friends have raved about the place. Well worth a visit.

Using rooms rating instead for the food rating , as it was amazing. Started out with a 3 for £15 nibbles board between three of us, which was just the right amount for the wait until mains. Once they arrived, I was greeted by the best fish and chips I've had in my life, with amazing tartare sauce and the mushy peas were beautiful. Will be coming again for certain! The only negative I can think of was the service was slightly on the slower side, but still very professional and well done! Thank you for a wonderful evening! Edit: Been back twice since the reopening, and both times had amazing food and atmosphere!

Visited on a trip to Oakham. It's Caffe Nero so you know what to expect but it's cosy with nice coffee. Only downside for me is that it seems to be one of the branches that allow dogs. And there were quite a lot squealing and clip clopping around on the wooden floors. Price you pay for being deep in the country I guess.

Had an awesome roast dinner here today. Sharing platter which easily fed 2 adults and 2 children (with leftovers for two hungry and knackered dogs!) The meats were cooked to perfection and the veg was packed with flavour. Lovely presentation. Will definitely be back.

This company had a stall selling coffee and pastries at Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival. They took the payment and then I realised there was a 20 minute wait for two coffees and a pastry which cost over £12 and the coffee was horrible. Muddy, weak and tasteless. I asked them to redo it, which one of the guys did, however, it was still weak and tasteless even with half the water. I was told to wait to complain to the manager but when he eventually came he was rude and refused to give me a refund. Other people in the queue were also unhappy and someone else brought their drink back as well. I said I would post a review and he said he didn’t care as he had sold thousands of coffees. Terrible service and coffee and the manager is arrogant. Avoid this company if you can
