Lunch menu is tasty, steak and red onion ciabatta was tasty. The Nacho sharer is a big meal for one, adding the chilli is a must - definitely fresh and full of flavour. The service was great, very polite and attentive. The only downside for those who like a more vibrant atmosphere, was lunch on a Tuesday is a little quiet; still, had the whole dining room to ourselves.

Called in here for Saturday lunch whilst househunting. Disappointed that you aren't able to buy anything from the lunch menu at the weekend so forced into big meal. Pint of diet coke, not filled to the top cost £3.30!!! My wife's prawn cocktail had 2 big prawns on top, clearly for display purposes as underneath was just prawn mush. Only redeeming factor for this place was the attentive staff who got orders correct and were friendly. They perhaps need to leave us with our food for more than 30 seconds before asking how the food is though.

One of the worst places for food I've been...microwaved roast spuds...cold food...the serve Yorkshire puds dry...They deliver your food outside but don't offer any salt etc...save your cash and go to the cafe up the road and get a jacket potato with great side order of salad..these things could be managed better.

Great setting, nice atmosphere, tasty food (well cooked and presented) and plenty of it. Had to go hunting for the condiments and cutlery but it didn't spoil the occasion. We ate in the garden and there was a group there that thought it was ok to have their dogs off lead and wandering around the tables and hoovering up crumbs while people were eating. We're dog owners/lovers ourselves but appreciate that not everyone else is.

Went back to the Wheatsheaf having had two very nice meals there at the end of last year. Thought it was strange on arrival that the car park was as almost empty on a Friday night when it used to always be quite difficult to park. Anyways, went in and found only a few customers. The menu has changed and the service certainly has too. Not many staff and those that were seemed to have little direction or oversight. Food was mixed in quality and orders didn't actually match the menu for some reason. I actually felt embarrassed as I'd recommend The Wheatsheaf to our friends who were treating us that night. Such a shame it has changed so much in such a short time. Sorry to say I won't be going back...

Good quality food and beer. Only downer one of the menus you can pick from had last year's prices on them for additional items. Wasn't worth the hassle to argue for a refund, but suggested they write the correct prices whilst they wait for the new menues to arrive

We enjoyed an excellent meal here and couldn’t believe how busy it was on a Tuesday lunchtime - clearly a very popular pub. The Tuesday pie and a drink deal was brilliant with a superb ‘proper’ pie. Other mains and desserts were also very good, and nothing was too expensive. Service was polite and efficient in general, though became more hit & miss towards the end of the meal. Ambiance was great.

Well my meal was for a quiche lorraine with chips,, but there was more chips than quiche, it should be chips with quiche lorraine on the side, I did expect a whole quiche in a small dish like a lasagne would be. But no it was an overdone bordering on burnt, small slice.

Sadly, the menu didn’t live up to expectation. Ordered fish goujons for 2 year old and were served greasy fish cakes. Asked for chicken goujons instead which took about 45 mins to arrive by which time we’d finished our meals. The chicken and leek pie was more pastry than filling and rather small. Very dry . Prawn cocktail advertised as Atlantic king prawns. Was mostly small prawns with about 3 larger ones on top. What a shame. Won’t go back.

Booked Christmas Dinner for the family here, party of 5, including a child. We asked for wheelchair access and had an issue booking the meal choices, leaving one of the party's selection off altogether. Immediately emailed them to explain the problem and give the final meal choices. No acknowledgement. Christmas day, we arrived in good time for our meal slot, 12:00-15:00. We were then seated, not in the dinning area but tucked away at the far end of the bar, around a corner. We queried the seating and were bluntly told that was it! There was clearly sufficient space to add an appropriate table in the dining room, but they didn't want to. The table did not accommodate the wheelchair, so they retrieved one from the dining room, where they told us they couldn't seat us. This was marginally better, but a different level to the other tables. Immediately, it became obvious that we were going to be ignored at lot, and as suspected, we were. After nearly an hour, they came out and with some of the starters and realised they hadn't got all the meal requests. Blamed it on a system blip! They took the missing order, brought that starter out, then a further 10-15 minutes the child starter was brought to the table. This pattern followed throughout the meal, with the child's food following the adults by 10-15 minutes. The food itself was poor and I mean really poor. Aunt Bessie's (being kind here) Yorkshire puddings, what looked and tasted like frozen roast potatoes and veg, and what looked like and had the texture of reconstituted turkey. Simple requests for gravy on the side were ignored and a couple of meals had to be returned. This was served a good, 45 minutes to an hour after the starters. We were ignored and had to approach the bar to get further drinks or sit and wait for ever to ask for more drinks. We then had a further long wait for the table to be cleared and desserts brought out. When desserts arrived we were reminded the table needed to be vacated at 15:00! Just 15 minutes left and we were offered coffee but reminded we needed to vacate in 15 minutes. Over 10 minutes 2 of 3 coffees were delivered to the table. The third coffee was deposited with the missive that we would have to move elsewhere! We argued that we had been kept waiting by them through out the meal, had been largely ignored and that we were not going to move until we finished. Where they expected us to move to, bearing in mind one member of they party was in a wheelchair I don't know. The waiter or perhaps one of the managers, just turned on his heels, ignoring us completely and walked off without a word. They proceeded to move tables about next to us, effectively locking the wheelchair in. A family were temporarily seated next to us, assuming they were supposed to have our table, then were taken through to the dining room! We were then completely ignored by all staff. One of our party had to go to the bar and ask for the manager. Eventually he came to our table. To his credit, he listened to our complaint, then asked what we needed to make it better. Too little, too late. We asked for an apology from the young man who had rudely walked off, that's all. He said he needed to go and speak to his co-manager first and would see if he could get the young man to come and apologise. They acknowledged that our Christmas dinner experience had been ruined and took one meal (missed off the system), the child meal and small number of drinks off the bill. We were now nearing 16:00, so accepted their offer, just so we could leave. On reflection, we should have stood our ground and insisted on the apology, but the excuse for this not forthcoming is the person was managing getting the meals out to the tables. All through the meal, the glasses coming out of the bar glass washer were being dumped onto the small end of bar hatch, directly behind half of our party. No alternative arrangements were made for the comfort of our table. Overall, if it were possible I would rate this place with minus 5 stars. The current management is extremely poor.

Currently best avoided. For past 5 years we have met here for a pre christmas walk and luncheon for 20 plus people. Not agian. When you are asked to pre order and several items are unavailable ("our suppliers let us down") and even 40 mins after arriving more changes are made ("yes suppliers..." ) despite the fact you've seen these items being served to others. When we found a manager, he hid. (What happend to the old team?) Blamed suppliers and when we pointed out a childs meal wasover cooked to the point of being inedible he said he'd sub contracted the kitchen, but wouldn't use them in future. Why were we on 2 tables this year? The serving staff were politeness itself, but with incompetent management we didn't get service.

An awful experience. Terrible food, rubbish service and no attempt to deal with the issue by the manager. We were a big group so ordered in advance. We arrived to be told that some main courses were not available so some of us had to reorder. This was not an issue but 45 minutes later we were then told there that some starters were now not available. It took over 15 mins for our new order to be taken. No food arrived until 90 mins after we had arrived, despite ordering in advance. The food was generally poor. All the meat was dry, it was as if it had been cooked, cut and then reheated. The kids chicken dish was inedible. Throughout the debacle the waiting staff, all young and inexperienced were left to deal with it on their own. The manager did not come across to try to get it sorted at any point. A very disappointing experience. We have eaten here before but it is clearly now under new management and doesn’t have the required skill set in the kitchen or the dining room to provide an adequate service. Steer clear!

Booked a table for a Xmas lunch back in September. Arrived to the greeting you’ll have to wait an hour for food cos we’ve two big groups in. No apologies or would you like a drink while you wait. We were then told we couldn’t have the festive menu as we hadn’t preordered. I had emailed in September asking if they needed us to preorder and hadn’t received a reply so took it as no. Eaten here a few times now and stopped for a drink after a walk round the lake. The atmosphere generally is friendly and warm and the pub is lovely inside. However, there have sadly been a couple of experiences that are disappointing. On my last visit, we ordered BBQ ribs. Within minutes of ordering, the food arrived. The pub and restaurant were very quiet and the food arrived too soon to have been cooked thoroughly. The ribs were warm on the outside and cool in the middle. When I commented, the barman took them away and with a few more minutes, returned with the same ribs that had clearly been heated in a microwave. No apology conveyed and no offer of a bill reduction. In addition, there have been a few occasions where the landlady has been a little grumpy and impatient when I have made a phone request for a seat or gone in to be seated. Overall, it’s a lovely pub and nice to sit out back. Sometimes the food has been fairly good but I would be unlikely to eat here again.

We called in here for a few beers and something to eat after spending a full day fishing on nearby Grafham Water, we wasn't disspointed. All the staff and the manager were really freindly, chatty and helpful and couldn't do enough for us. After a cold day on the water we sat by the open fire, the manager Luke spottd we had had a tough day and came over to throw more logs on it and warm us up. A really good selection of beers and spirits I chose Guinness which was served chilled to perfection. a substantial menu didnt dissapoint either, as a starter we had the bread, cheese and meat sharing board which was excellent and for a main I ordered the ribs with fries and coleslaw and can honestly say it was amongst the best I've ever had, the ribs were a real hearty portion (2 racks) and were incredibly meaty, no fat and no waste! I would recommend 'The Wheatsheaf' without hesitation, as a pub or as a restaurant (as the 2 areas are seperated). We will definitely return every time we come to fish Grafham.

Small things need to change. Overall our experience was good but three things stuck out - the first concerns the nacho sharing platter - never been served neon green guacamole that looked like mushy peas (without the peas)! The coleslaw was thin and watery, IMO cheap and tasteless. Finally the chips were warm (not hot). However, let’s talk about the good: staff were friendly and pleasant. Whilst is lacked atmosphere this was more due to the limited number of people in the pub. Food, overall, was good

Driving back after a long journey from the Lake District my wife and I decided to eat in the restaurant part of this pub rather than having to cook ourselves when we arrived home. We arrived 18:30, chose a table, bought drinks and ordered the HALF RACK BBQ RIBS Tender & succulent half rack of slow-cooked pork ribs, generously coated in our signature barbecue sauce. Served with coleslaw & seasoned fries and SEA BASS FILLETS With baby potatoes, onions, bacon, peas & parsley sauce our order was taken quickly. 45 minutes later after seeing other table who had come in after us receive their food we asked if we had been forgotten. after a brief trip to the kitchen we were told that we were next up. for the next 10 minutes we watched other tables get their food. We now complained. 3 minutes later the food came. Mine was just a rack of ribs and fries, no coleslaw and no barbecue sauce. It was only just warm enough to eat. I asked for the coleslaw which was promptly delivered There were not discernible peas, onions or taste of parsley in the sauce. It had the feel of food that had been left on the side for a long time. An hour's wait to get food that was not as it was described on the menu. We both just wanted to leave. It has been a very long time since I had a restaurant experience as disappointing as this one was. We had clearly been forgotten and a rush job had been done to get food out that the chef should never have allowed out the kitchen. The correct thing to do when a customer has been forgotten is to own up to it and be honest about it giving us the opportunity to make other arrangements

Nice village pub, dropped in for Sunday lunch, ordered Roast pork, but when it arrived at the table it was not roast pork, it was two slices of pork cooked on a gridle, tough as old boots. and the parsnip was woody / past its best by some way, generally disappointed We should have complained!!

Called in for dinner. A wide range of traditional dishes available. The pricing is lower than a lot of the pubs in the area. Edit Aug 24: went for second visit. Food not as good. My scampi was overcooked and dry, friends burger lacked pulled pork and chips were lacklustre.

Probably much better than this first experience. Only stopped for a drink as they couldn't serve food outside as the kitchen was 'backed up'. One of the two drinks was incorrect, and no bar service, they were bought to the table. That said inside looked very nice and was pretty busy. Food menu looked very good and reasonably priced Mon-Fri between 12 and 5pm 2-courses @ £14.95, 3 courses @ £17.95. Open and airy inside, and a good size garden.

Many times have I run around the 15km of Grafham Water at 06.30 passing this beautiful looking pub thinking..."one day I should come for lunch". Today was that day...oh what a shame. 3 times we had to ask for a simple jug of water, but that was only the beginning. We were a table of 4, 2 ordered the lamb...1 the pork and 1 the chicken. The lamb was literally inedible, chewy and cold and fatty. The pork not much better and the chicken, well that's pretty hard to get wrong. The veg looked awful and the gravy like water with lumps. There was something that I can only assume was a Yorkshire Pudding, but not risen and almost raw batter. Anyway, at the end we pointed this out and the 2 roast lambs were removed from the bill. I understand places can have a bad day but wow, close to the worst food I have been presented in a restaurant. Surprising as the reviews are so good and such a lovely place.

Went with the husband and puppy a few weeks ago. The staff were very friendly and even though they were clearly short-staffed, everything was clean and organised. The food was tasty and good value for money. There's some work needed but I heard they got a new manager so he'll probably sort out those small issues. Looking forward to come back!

We have been to The Wheatsheaf on many occasions, and was looking forward to todays visit, but was really disappointed. It looks like it’s under new management, and the menu has been amended, which one can expect. We placed our order, myself, a classic prawn cocktail as a starter, and the mains was one cottage pie and two scampi and chips. The prawn cocktail was a lettuce leaf, with the remainder of the dish filled up with prawns and sauce, nothing else, plus three very small thinly sliced pieces of bread, no butter. Very disappointing. The cottage pie was ok, but no gravy on the side, and my wife requested no peas, but they were served up anyway in a small dish. The scampi and chips were also disappointing with the chips undercooked and the scampi looking overcooked and oily with very little filling. I was given to understand that they had been let down on one their food delivery, but that should not reflect on the food that was ordered on the day.

A very disappointing experience in terms of the quality of the food and the service. Having been a frequent visitor over recent years, the change of management had seed a decline in standards and our group all expressed the same view in that they won’t be returning for a meal.

A beautiful pub!! The food was gorgeous, I had their caesar salad which was simple divine! We descended as a group of 5 with no notice. They did seem reasonably busy at the time, but the food cane in good time and every dish was perfect. The ladies serving us were incredibly helpful and very lovely! The only downside was the flies, very blushy and annoying!

Now reopened (Under new management?) with new furniture and a return to the quality and welcome of the past. When originally opened, the cafe offered a lovely "family feel" with excellent service and quality. The cafe had slumped badly in the quality of the experience in recent years, after a change of owners, and my previous visit had been quite unpleasant, so it was VERY refreshing to find a smiling welcome, rapid service and excellent coffee. The new tables are perhaps less rustic than the previous versions, which has lost a little of the atmosphere, but the cafe is scrupulously clean and retains the previous layout. The seating area is quite small and if you are planning to lunch there I would say that booking is essential. It does get very busy at times. The food is reasonably priced, though not "cheap" and the quality was excellent. Attention to detail has made a huge difference to the offering and it is clear that the bad memory of the past has been banished.
