Gteat pub and excellent service. Visited on a Tuesday lunchtime. We had meat pie and veg and fish and chips which were cooked perfectly and served promptly with a smile. We had our dog with us and I have to say he was fussed over, given a blanket and toy to play with and lots of treats. The bar lady was very kind and friendly, moving tables together for our benefit. Would definitely recommend this venue.

Small things need to change. Overall our experience was good but three things stuck out - the first concerns the nacho sharing platter - never been served neon green guacamole that looked like mushy peas (without the peas)! The coleslaw was thin and watery, IMO cheap and tasteless. Finally the chips were warm (not hot). However, let’s talk about the good: staff were friendly and pleasant. Whilst is lacked atmosphere this was more due to the limited number of people in the pub. Food, overall, was good

Appalling service, advised there would be a 20/30 minutes delay due to large party who arrived 1/2 hour before. Waited an hour! Chips Luke warm, scant portion of peas. Reaction from waiter nonplused when complaint made without offer to replenish. plates not cleared very soon and left waiting for dessert menu. Waitress rude when asked to speak, sighed and rolled her eyes! Never going there again, meal took 2 hours and one couple gave up waiting and left

We visited some friends in West Perry and stopped for lunch at this charming local pub last Sunday. The atmosphere was cozy with a welcoming log fire, and it was dog-friendly too, which was a nice touch. The service was warm and friendly, and we all ordered burgers, which were absolutely delicious. They also had a great selection of wines by the glass at very reasonable prices. We will definitely be returning on our next visit!

We were told that if we were ordering food it would take 30 minutes as they were behind with orders. I said OK and ordered our food, fish and chips and scampi and chips. When the food eventually arrived my friends battered fish was more batter than fish. The batter was overcooked hard and thick. The quality of the fish was poor. Not sure what was in my scampi, grey and processed. Again overcooked and hard. I would imagine cheap packaged scampi. Iceland maybe? All in all not a good eating experience at all. Not sure how they can mess up battered fish and scampi but they did. I had some salad on my plate old and limp.

Driving back after a long journey from the Lake District my wife and I decided to eat in the restaurant part of this pub rather than having to cook ourselves when we arrived home. We arrived 18:30, chose a table, bought drinks and ordered the HALF RACK BBQ RIBS Tender & succulent half rack of slow-cooked pork ribs, generously coated in our signature barbecue sauce. Served with coleslaw & seasoned fries and SEA BASS FILLETS With baby potatoes, onions, bacon, peas & parsley sauce our order was taken quickly. 45 minutes later after seeing other table who had come in after us receive their food we asked if we had been forgotten. after a brief trip to the kitchen we were told that we were next up. for the next 10 minutes we watched other tables get their food. We now complained. 3 minutes later the food came. Mine was just a rack of ribs and fries, no coleslaw and no barbecue sauce. It was only just warm enough to eat. I asked for the coleslaw which was promptly delivered There were not discernible peas, onions or taste of parsley in the sauce. It had the feel of food that had been left on the side for a long time. An hour's wait to get food that was not as it was described on the menu. We both just wanted to leave. It has been a very long time since I had a restaurant experience as disappointing as this one was. We had clearly been forgotten and a rush job had been done to get food out that the chef should never have allowed out the kitchen. The correct thing to do when a customer has been forgotten is to own up to it and be honest about it giving us the opportunity to make other arrangements

Probably much better than this first experience. Only stopped for a drink as they couldn't serve food outside as the kitchen was 'backed up'. One of the two drinks was incorrect, and no bar service, they were bought to the table. That said inside looked very nice and was pretty busy. Food menu looked very good and reasonably priced Mon-Fri between 12 and 5pm 2-courses @ £14.95, 3 courses @ £17.95. Open and airy inside, and a good size garden.

Many times have I run around the 15km of Grafham Water at 06.30 passing this beautiful looking pub thinking..."one day I should come for lunch". Today was that day...oh what a shame. 3 times we had to ask for a simple jug of water, but that was only the beginning. We were a table of 4, 2 ordered the lamb...1 the pork and 1 the chicken. The lamb was literally inedible, chewy and cold and fatty. The pork not much better and the chicken, well that's pretty hard to get wrong. The veg looked awful and the gravy like water with lumps. There was something that I can only assume was a Yorkshire Pudding, but not risen and almost raw batter. Anyway, at the end we pointed this out and the 2 roast lambs were removed from the bill. I understand places can have a bad day but wow, close to the worst food I have been presented in a restaurant. Surprising as the reviews are so good and such a lovely place.

We have been to The Wheatsheaf on many occasions, and was looking forward to todays visit, but was really disappointed. It looks like it’s under new management, and the menu has been amended, which one can expect. We placed our order, myself, a classic prawn cocktail as a starter, and the mains was one cottage pie and two scampi and chips. The prawn cocktail was a lettuce leaf, with the remainder of the dish filled up with prawns and sauce, nothing else, plus three very small thinly sliced pieces of bread, no butter. Very disappointing. The cottage pie was ok, but no gravy on the side, and my wife requested no peas, but they were served up anyway in a small dish. The scampi and chips were also disappointing with the chips undercooked and the scampi looking overcooked and oily with very little filling. I was given to understand that they had been let down on one their food delivery, but that should not reflect on the food that was ordered on the day.

This is our local pub/restaurant, it’s been through a few trying months since being taken over. I’ve given an average score as there is still a way to go to get back up to the top rating. The new young staff are extremely good, polite welcoming so that’s a definite plus. The food still needs tweaking, tiny portions of some vegetables and I’m not sure the Gravy would fulfill the trades description act. Not up to standard yet, a work in progress but I hope they take on board the comments made as I believe they will make a great success of what was a very successful business, and I’m sure will be again. .

This has changed hands. There is not enough staff to serve food, drinks etc. They now give you a jug of water when you sit down. If you have This offering it's a known fact that it fills your tummy. They use this to serve smaller portions. I had fish and chips. The fish was not freshly battered on site like the previous owners did. It looked like it came straight from the freezer and deep fried. The chips were an improvement, crisper and not cotton wool inside. The mushy peas was a tiny amount served in a tiny dished, pointless and cold. Other people had a sandwich and the bread looked like it came from a standard loaf from a supermarket. It used to be bloomer or farmhouse. It took 45 minutes to get our food, but that was lack off staff. Overall ok just quicker service and a few changes of the food.

Things have changed at Perry's Wheatsheaf, and not for the better. The staff were all still pretty much on point, but the food wasn't the quality we've come to love. Two dishes served our party; Ribs and Calves liver and bacon, were as enjoyable as before, just different. A Caesar salad that could have come right out of a supermarket kit, complete with dry chicken and not enough dressing, and a laughably thin, overcooked Ribeye steak at £21. The Wheatsheaf is dog-friendly now, apparently. Make of that what you will, but it will cause us to avoid. I'm sorry. We've loved this place, and we'll watch the reviews. But for now it's so long.

But the real issue was that the food was just really poor, frozen chips, scampi and pie, we suspected and a funny tasting tomato topping on the pizza. A lovely pub and the food was nice but the service really let the day down. I think you may have bitten off more than you could chew with the amount of bookings on mother’s day. We had preordered our food so we thought that’s good no messing around when we get there…our waiter came over and asked us what we would like to order which is a bit odd as we had preordered so technically we had to just order our food when we got there (not sure why there was a preorder?) After a bit of a wait our orders came out but were incorrect so we had to wait yet again whilst tables that ordered well after us got their food first. It would have been nice to have been offered something to keep us going and sweeten the deal. Sadly our desert then also took such a long time to come out I had to ask (twice) for it to be boxed up to take home. I get mistakes happen and it was a busy day but the small things sometimes go a long way.

Such a shame went for a joint celebration of mother's day for me and my daughter in law also my birthday which was the same day should have been a lovely family time together unfortunately after a promising starters which was very nice our main course arrived minus my grandsons dinner which had been forgotten to cook anybody with small children know how important it is to keep the children feed and happy which in turn makes parents and grandparents happy this definitely was not done when his food was bought out it was to hot for my 4year old grandson to eat so after this we left as the baby was also fed up of being in the highchair so long. We went to the counter to pay was asked if everything was OK but when we told the manager about the problem we were told he would tell the boss I just said he was the boss he told me I wish, unfortunately we live in the village have been up to the pub lots of times never before have we had a problem and left feeling very undervalued as a customer such a shame.

We booked to come for Mother’s Day. When we arrived, the initial service was prompt, with food and drink orders taken quickly. We were asked if we wanted 2 or 3 courses, with options to be chosen straight away as the computer system worked that way, no bother. Choices made, our starters arrived reasonably quickly. After that the service went down hill. It took 45 minutes for our table to be cleared and another 15 minutes, with some prompting, to get our mains. For some reason our 9 year old had been given an adult portion. The food was ok, good portions, though the beef was over cooked, making it quite tough and sliced very thickly. Again, it took 40 minutes to get any acknowledgement that we had finished. I asked for our deserts, to which I was presented the bill. I explained we had ordered deserts, after which we were told one wasn’t available. It still took another 15 minutes for them to arrive. Very clearly the pub was had over booked and was still taking walk ins when they couldn’t look after the large amount of customers they already had. There was zero organisation in terms of service and serving in order. A lot of people were served before us, despite arriving a long time afterwards. It took 3 hours for us to eat, which for 2 adults, 1 child and a baby is ridiculously slow. I work in the area and often discuss places to eat and this will be mentioned. We didn’t feel valued as customers. Simple mantra, under promise, over deliver, you will have happy customers. We won’t be returning.

We definitely ended up in the worst seats in the house. Don’t stick people round the corner in the bar with no visibility when they’ve paid to see an act. Atmosphere poor!

We booked for 3pm but on arrival was told our booking was for 4.45pm, a quite hostile attitude and given a table we have sat at before where everyone walks past repeatedly., so we politely refused and were directed to a table in the bar facing the wall (felt like the naughty table) there were plenty of tables laid up and free when we got there and when we left. We eventually got the drinks we ordered plus the water. I ordered the buttermilk chicken starter, my husband ordered garlic prawns which were smothered in tinned tomatoes, however the prawns still had their shells on, making them almost impossible to eat. The waiter who took his plate acknowledged there was a problem with the prawns. We had both ordered the rib of beef roast, however when the meals arrived I got the roast but my husband got a rib eye steak with chips! He didn't send it back as this would have meant me eating alone. However no-one came near us to ask if our meals were ok, my husband's steak was undercooked and very fatty, difficult to eat, my roast beef was overcooked. No-one approached us for dessert or coffees so We paid our bill at the bar and left. Not a good experience from start to finish. We have been customers for over 20 years, on today's offering we will not be back anytime soon. Comments please

There is a very good menu currently here and also ‘pie nights’ ‘fish nights’ and ‘steak nights’. We tried the latter. A beautifully cooked steak was served with sides and a sauce, plus a glass of wine or pint of lager for around £19. Really good value. Also good choices of desserts which were delicious. The place was buzzing, as far as I could see every table was reserved . The server was really good, although she was very busy we were not ignored. A very nice evening.

It's just changed hands...staff were pleasant but I'm afraid the food was not up to the high standards as before..the lack of customers was noticeable, it used to be packed

Now reopened (Under new management?) with new furniture and a return to the quality and welcome of the past. When originally opened, the cafe offered a lovely "family feel" with excellent service and quality. The cafe had slumped badly in the quality of the experience in recent years, after a change of owners, and my previous visit had been quite unpleasant, so it was VERY refreshing to find a smiling welcome, rapid service and excellent coffee. The new tables are perhaps less rustic than the previous versions, which has lost a little of the atmosphere, but the cafe is scrupulously clean and retains the previous layout. The seating area is quite small and if you are planning to lunch there I would say that booking is essential. It does get very busy at times. The food is reasonably priced, though not "cheap" and the quality was excellent. Attention to detail has made a huge difference to the offering and it is clear that the bad memory of the past has been banished.

A gorgeous country pub, which has been renovated to an extremely high standard. Beautiful decor and a cosy feel, plus delicious food! The staff were really friendly and accommodating towards my son’s allergy. We will definitely visit again!
