Good pub food, nice environment in middle of Manchester

I came as part of a work Christmas social, where we had the three course Christmas menu. I had the fish cakes for starter, pork ribeye for main, and Christmas pudding for dessert. The food was delicious, well presented and delivered to the table in a timely manner, by fantastic staff who were very friendly and attentive, even with such a large booking. I will certainly consider coming back here as a smaller group.

Couldn’t believe how much choice there was on the standard menu for a gluten-intolerant diner. Staff were knowledgeable, attentive and very friendly - big shout out to Meg J and Emily who demonstrated fantastic product knowledge and impeccable customer-facing skills. They helped turn a celebration dinner into a really special occasion, all the more notable as the restaurant was really busy. Food was amazing and particularly impressed that a) a lot of other team members helped deliver different elements of our orders and b) that such a fuss was made of our (admittedly gorgeous) dog.

Given five star but, Gaucho's or Hawksmoor are 5 Star. the Wharf is 5 star for it's up-market pub range. Food is decent but a little overpriced. The roast especially is great and staff are friendly. Dogs welcome and a big sheltered area outside. Staff are usually very accommodating and this is a very stereotypical Brunning & Price where you aren't attacked by the staff (Unlike the Old Hall).

Found this place by accident. Warm, friendly, family friendly, great smelling food (we'd already eaten though), massive variety of drinks.

Typical English cuisine specialities, wide choice of beers on tap and friendly and welcoming staff.

Amazing gluten free fish & chips

Very nice and pleasant meal for five people.

Lovely location and hopefully not a place many people know about next summer, as I'm looking forward to trying it again when it's warmer. My food was delicious, I had the quiche with some halloumi fries. My wife had the fish finger sandwich. Only issue with that was, it was rather batter heavy. They have a lovely selection of ales and beers, perfect for the connoisseur, sadly I was driving, so can't comment on temperature, head, etc. Accessibility is a breeze, a bit of a walk from the car park (don't forget to put your reg in at the bar), and there's even a lift to the toilet upstairs. The toilets were immaculate, clean, quality equipment and pleasant smelling. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Seating outside overlooking the Bridgewater canal, some covered and some open. Again spotless and clean. All in all it should be a 5* rating all but for the delay on a pot of tea they forgot and the batter on the fish. In fact to heck with it, I'm giving it a 5.

We went for an excellent Sunday lunch; the service was really quick and the food was excellent, even though the whole pub was full. Would definitely recommend for a great Sunday roast in Manchester.

Had the Sunday Roast, Yorkshire Pudding was good, but the beef was tough and chewy, rather disappointing

A lovely place for a meal or a drink in this historic part of Manchester.

Well. Ordered the chicken dinner. So I expected probably slices of chicken but to my surprise when it arrived it came with 2xchicken legs. Wtf. Which didn't say that on the menu. Secondly, no yorkshire pudding came with that. Only comes if you order the beef dinner. The cabbage was really chewy. The roast potatoes were hard, and the mash! Well if I couldn't see it and if that what they call mash just a little slither then the are sadly out of form. Was it worth £21+ vat. never in a million yrs. I have had way better chicken dinners from carverys at half that price. Seriously I don't know how anyone can say or give this place good review. First n last time. They say first impressions last. Well I'll agree with that because my chicken dinner was an absolute joke.

Absolutely buzzing atmosphere when we visited this Sunday. And even though it was incredibly busy, we received attentive and friendly service. The roast lamb was perhaps the best I've ever had. Others in our group enjoyed the pie and roast pork. Great quality, lovely veg and gravy. You do need to order a Yorkshire pudding as an extra if you aren't having the beef. I highly recommend. Thank you to everyone for serving us. It was a great afternoon ☺️

Great place, live music, nice atmosphere

11/10! Absolutly unreal food, I’m not joking when I say this is the best roast I have ever had. The ambience, service and whole experience is faultless. You HAVE to visit!!

The Wharf is a true hidden gem in Manchester! Tucked away by the canal, it has such a cozy, welcoming vibe that makes you feel right at home. The food is fantastic—hearty, well-prepared, and full of flavor, with a great mix of traditional pub dishes and unique options. The outdoor seating by the water is a lovely touch, perfect for a sunny day. And the staff? Friendly and attentive. It’s the kind of place where you can relax, unwind, and enjoy great food and drinks with friends. Absolutely worth a visit!

Really liked this place, we went at lunch so was quiet and we only had some of the starter options to eat, but they were all really good. It isn't particularly cheap but at least the quality on offer is good. They also have an impressive amount of craft beers etc at the bar which are really good, and a large covered outdoor area for seating if you don't want to be in the restaurant. So whether it be food or drinks you're after, it's well worth a trip here.

Lovely place but the food menu needs improving. The atmosphere is lovely, the staff are very welcoming and accommodating and you get lovely views of the canals at the night time. The steak burger being the only. Utter option makes no sense. There’s not much options for non vegans/vegetarians or those who don’t eat pork. Every time I come here I have 2 options chips or bad apples asking salad. This would be a 5/5 if the food was better. The food cost too much to taste so bad. The Sunday lunch menu seems to be a lot better.

Great pub with wide range of beers, wines and cocktails. It is a good place to spend some time with friends. I did try Sunday lunch, food was good. Really big portions.

The wharf??!!? More like the dwarf! Not dwarf in terms of height! But in terms of pigs n blankets. One singular pig and blanket is not enough. Maybe it was shrunk in the wash but I don’t a cocktail sausage with a tiny blanket is not enough. Gravy was good though

I have to give 1 star this time. I normally love this place and the atmosphere in there, me and my friends are quite regulars every Sunday! This time had to walk away tho. We book a table for dining and the host at the arrive gave us a round table near the door! Soon we realized was bar area and we had to go on the bar and order there. We tried to change table asking couple of times but we've been denied on our request! I understand is busy which is good, but table on the bar area normally are giving for walk-ins! I work in hospitality as well but maybe not all the the places are the same. Just a bit disappointed though

I love this pub and its overall a very good venue but we were just charged £8 for one piece of Brie with breadcrumbs. Scandalous

My first experience in this warm place with its design and furniture. The place is very beautiful. My order was tea and a delicious flat white

En primer lugar, el personal del bar me pareció desagradable. Pedimos el Harrogate azul, espinacas, cebolla balsámico quiche que debería haber venido con manzana, apio y ensalada de uva. El quiche vino con unos pedazos de cohete flácido con una ensalada de papas poco apetitosa y sin ensalada de manzana, apio y uva. Le dije a la camarera que la ensalada había desaparecido. Luego fue a la cocina a buscarlo. Parecía como si hubiera cortado uvas y manzana, sin apio y parecía tan tirado. Y luego a mi amigo y a mí nos dieron uno para compartir en lugar de uno cada uno. La camarera se disculpó diciendo que era un nuevo chef! ¡No iré allí de nuevo!

Help host our Manchester run club every Wednesday and love it

Visited twice this week for Tabletop Manchester events. The pub is spacious, clean, and well decorated.

Traditional style pub on the bank of the canal with a distinctly countryside feel to it. Big terrace and 2 floors of indoor seating, plus a huge bar, offering a good selection of ales (incl. hand pulled) and usually fast / efficient service. Food is traditional pub fare, looks great for omnivores but a bit limited for vegans. Also it’s dog friendly. All in all, one of the best pubs in the city. Just tried the vegan Sunday (nut) roast today. Decent, but a bit sparse on vegetables for £20 (incl. service charge). Shame, this great pub lets itself down on food, certainly on the vegan dishes we have tried.

My favourite pub in the city centre, or on the outskirts, which is where The Wharf is located. It's not cheap, either for food or drinks, but the location and ambience more than compensate for that. Can be difficult to find seats if you haven't pre-booked. But that's done in less than a minute on their website.

Fuimos aquí ayer (domingo 13 de octubre) para cenar y beber después de correr la Media Maratón de Manchester. Tuvimos dificultades al principio para ser alojado con nuestro perro, pero gran saludo a Lisa la camarera glaswegia que movió las mesas incluso en un día tan ocupado para encontrarnos un gran lugar 😀qué fabulosa enorme cena asada, bebidas y Lisa especialmente hecho para una maravillosa tarde de celebraciones. The staff here are the best, friendly and go out of their way to help and accommodate. The Sunday lunch here is one of the best in Manchester

The food was great, especially the pie and the cheesecake. The waiters were lovely and very welcoming. I had to remove one star from the service because the waiting time was quite long, but it Was worth it. You should make a reservation thou.

Best Sunday roast I’ve ever had. We sat outdoors for the river view. Our waiter was incredibly attentive, chasing away the pigeons which were trying to sneak a bite of our Sunday roast, and bringing a knife as soon as I dropped mine. Would definitely come back for the roast. Crispy potatoes, crunchy crackling, and tender meat. Cannot recommend highly enough. Super beautiful and clean toilets and so cosy on the inside.

Had a great dinner, service was excellent and the atmosphere was very relaxed. I would highly recommend a visit.

Increíble, he visitado un par de veces y este lugar nunca decepciona. Un restaurante es tan bueno como el chef, la comida es deliciosa. Un restaurante muy concurrido pero que no afecta al nivel de servicio y calidad de la comida. Si usted está en el centro de Manchester y quiere un lugar para comer y beber, entonces le recomendaría visitar el muelle. Ideal para familias, limpio, espacioso en un hermoso entorno junto a los barcos del río. Puedes comer y beber dentro o fuera. No puedo recomendar lo suficiente.

Amazing, I have visited a few times and this place never disappoints. A restaurant is only as good as the chef, the food is delicious. A busy restaurant but this doesn’t impact the standard of service and quality of the food. If you are in the centre of Manchester and want somewhere to eat and drink then I would recommend you visit the Wharf. Family friendly, clean, spacious in a beautiful setting next to the river boats. You can eat and drink inside or outside. I cannot recommend enough.

The potato and leek soup is incredible. Our mains, roast beef & steak burger were also delicious. The staff were kind and courteous. Will go back!

Large, roomy, good food, nice place and friendly staff but service needs improving as when I went recently it wasn't too busy but it was difficult to get staff attention for table service and there were long delays between courses.

Great place for pre show food at the Castlefield Bowl. Excellent information on how to get there, and the food and drink were pretty good too.

Met friends here for lunch. Nice pub with a good ambiance. Service was a bit too slow but the food was very good when it came.

Looks like a happy place, But need to wait one hour for the food. Not happy about that.

The Wharf is always a cosy place to visit in Castlefield whether you're wanting a drink or a meal. We go quite frequently and are often served by familiar faces, and everyone is always super lovely. Amy in particular, who served us once again tonight, always goes above and beyond to make sure we are looked after. When I bring the dog, she makes sure she has water and plenty of treats, and is always extremely welcoming. She's an asset to The Wharf team and look forward to coming back once again in the near future.

We stopped by for an impromptu dinner at the wharf tonight and as ever was not disappointed. The new additions to the menu were delicious and once again we were all well looked after by our waitress Amy who seems to always serve us! We are always pleased to see her and even our mini dacshund recognises her now and wiggles her way over to say hello!

As a regular to this pub with my dog, - a pug - yesterday 2 staff members were extremely rude! A friend and I found a table down stairs and as my friend visited the toilet I asked a female member of staff if the table could have a wipe down, I had already moved previous people’s glasses to one side to which she replied can you find a clean table to sit on. She then came back 5 minutes later and said this area isn’t for dogs and that I would need to find another table, so I said that’s fine I’m just waiting for my friend and will move, no problem. A couple minutes later a male staff member came over and told he had received a complaint that I had a dog in that area and I need to move immediately as there is food in the area. I asked who complained as the same people were still sat there and not eating. The whole pub serves food and no signs to state no dogs beyond a point, even though I had sat there before with my dog. My friend came back we moved (I couldn’t carry all her possessions and drinks). The 2 staff member then proceeded to talk about me as they walked passed and Turing to look, I found this very rude! So for a pub that advertises as dog friendly please be aware there is no signs but only allowed at the front of the pub this should be clearer with signs.

The best Sunday roast I've ever had !!!

Probably my favourite pub in Manchester! Reminds me of a country pub but in the city centre. The food is lovely especially if you go for a Sunday roast 👌🏻 If you like a drink ask what different selection of drinks they have on since they change every so often. My favourite so far has been a crème brûlée stout which was amazing! Introduced many friends and family to this place, been coming here for years and will continue to 🙏🏻

Went due to visiting my son and his girlfriend living nearby. Lovely pub. Great food and atmosphere. Saw a traitors there at a birthday party. Going again.

Spacious and homely decorated pub/restaurant serving tasty English gastro pub food along side some more adventurous dishes. It's the manufactured traditional/retro decor but it still exudes a comfy and cozy atmosphere. Board games are available and dogs are also welcomed in the pub. Service/food can be a hit or miss when they get really busy but I guess it only shows how popular this place is. Definitely a recommend. Also, do check out the website to find out if there are any events on. They occasionally put on live music, gin/ale events etc. Very popular in the evenings so book if you can

Good location in Castlefields although parking can be a problem. However only 10 minute walk from Metrolink stop. Great selection of beer, including lovely Cheshire Cat. Food choice good, not extensive but always well cooked and more than ample. Extensive outside and inside seating. Overall a great place to eat and drink in good setting. Highly recommended.

Whilst spending some time in Manchester I came across the wharf recommended by tick tock. Food was amazing and the atmosphere was lovely would give both a 10/10 but service was by far the winner. Lisa served us and was very helpful with both mine and my friends allergy’s she made all other staff aware and was helpful in explaining what we could and couldn’t have. All staff were also very friendly and helpful. We will be coming back next time we’re down. Couldn’t recommend a place more and a 10/10 roast dinner.

The scallop was very oversalted. Very! And the asparagus is overcooked 😢

Fourteen of us met up at the Wharf this week. We worked together for forty years, now we meet up to chat together once a month. The Wharf has been our meeting up pub/restaurant for the last three months because it provides comfort and is near to transport hubs, as well as having its own car park. The food is always excellent and varied. The vast choice of real ale is one of our main reasons for visiting The Wharf. The friendly staff team are willing to go the extra mile to make us feel comfortable. Roger.

The atmosphere and drinks are great, specially on a sunny day. But don’t come here for food. Plates are tiny and massively overpriced, avoid.

One of my favorite places in Manchester for an afternoon bite or snacks or smoke.. I often come for coffee and to smoke my cigar by the river in their amazing outside open tables. It gets busy at night and during weekends.

Had a delightful ad-hoc lunch here in the middle of a local walk. Staff were welcoming and attentive. Food delicious and a comfortable atmosphere.

Sadly, I don't think I'd recommend after this latest visit. I was quite disappointed, I found it very expensive for what I recieved. We came as a group. I ordered lamb, I didn't get a Yorkshire pudding, I had to ask for one. On a Sunday roast? Apparently it's not on the menu, on a Sunday roast? Anyway I was given one which is fine. There was a pitiful amount of mashed potatoes on my plate, if I hadn't have ordered the sharing platter which was very expensive, I'd have asked where my mash was. I felt I had to order a sharing platter as not much came with the actual Sunday roasts? There was a lack of veg in my opinion, no broccoli, no peas. I didn't think much or the cauliflower cheese, it wasn't good quality at all. Overall, I was quite disappointed, I don't think I will return for Sunday roast as it just wasn't upto standard really. It was Instagramable, but extremely disappointing

Great pub, food wasn’t amazing very few options for a pesquetarian. But the place is great, great service, will be back for some drinks there with a nice view. I hope I can get a table upstairs next time

Lovely pub right on the canal, great atmosphere with good seating inside and out. The staff were super friendly and the food was just as good. The sea food linguine is as good a pub food as I've had. Fantastic beer selection to top it off. Thanks team 👍

Food was amazing, staff was attentive by how busy it was! Would definitely recommend! However when we turned up, the security said we are closed (probably because it was packed) we had a booking so were let in! Would definitely recommend booking for food especially on a weekend!

Gorgeous restaurant and gorgeous food! Everything came out quick and hot and was overall a lovely dining experience, will definitely be back!
