The Wharf in Manchester

Not what it used to be, really. Prices have gone up, while quality and service have sharply declined. This used to be one of my favourite places, but I removed it from my list after two bad experiences with my family. The portions of protein were small, and the food was bland. The dessert options were below average, and the attention was awful. The receptionist and booking staff, in particular, were very disrespectful and rude. I kindly asked for a table preference, but the staff member kept interrupting me and speaking loudly in a rude manner. Although he later tried to fix things up after noticing I was upset. If my family and I want to enjoy a good place for a roast or a British dinner, this definitely won’t be the place, there is not quality-value offering worth your money and time

Sunday roast was really nice however food took ages to come, some items were missing and we weren’t even offered a refund on the items missing. Nice spot to sit out in the sun however the service was poor

Visited with the family and we all loved the food, choice of drinks and staff. Lovely day out in the docks. The toilets were sparkling clean too! We will visit again.

Met my friend here, my first time, nice and tidy place, bar staff were friendly, there was ample dining tables but few places to sit and socialise, we visited on a Sunday, they opened the doors at 12, we had to join a cue to gain entry, free car parking at the side of the pub, as it was Sunday lunch time the tables very quickly filled up with families, and the noise level was such as even sat next to each other we could not hear wa we were saying and so left to find a quieter place,

Worst fish and chips I have had in years. The place itself is fine good selection of ales and convivial enough and my friends were happy with their pies but do not have the fish and chips !!

The Wharf will allow you to enjoy a good tea 🍵 or a good beer 🍺... everyone's choice... nevertheless the place and one of the most atypical places in Manchester...

Lovely hosts and great place just about reachable in a car

Very well located by the canal, nice pub atmosphere for a Sunday roast. Accommodating team to find us a place without reservation even though the establishment was full.

Solicité una mesa con vista a la ventana para ocupar a los niños. Entregaron eso y una muy buena comida también. Mi IPA inicial fue muy sabroso, al igual que mi Goan curry + waffle. Mi esposa era les entusiasta en &er pescado + patatas fritas, pero sabía bien para mí. Las comidas de niños fueron un éxito. El interior del restaurante es de muy buen gusto y la vista exterior es súper. No he estado en 10 años, pero sigue siendo excelente.

Came here for valentine’s as it didn’t restrict you to a set menu like a lot of other places. It was 7pm and the place was packed! We were seen to quickly. I had chosen to book a drinks table so we could sit in the main part of the pub where there’s more atmosphere. Despite how busy it was the service was amazing, the only thing better was the food. I had the pork ribeye steak and a side of buttered vegetables. Every mouthful was delicious and today I’m still thinking about it 🤤 my fella had the steak burger and we washed it down with a bottle of Pinot Noir. It was about £70 including the service charge which was automatically added.

The staff respected our request for a quiet table so we could chat with a balcony table over looking the restaurant. Very attentive staff and a delicious relaxed meal. Just what we wanted

All amazing put in my opinion its a bit pricy, but for the atmosphere and the service it’s all worth.

We had booked a table for 230pm on a Sunday. While we appreciated being able to bring a cake in for the birthday boy and the arrangements made for that, we were a little upset having to wait for our table to be ready. We had to wait at the bar with children and when I chased up our table after 15 minutes (I explained our youngest was getting impatient- he wasn't, he was struggling (autism) as it was so busy and we were at the bar) the host thought it appropriate to tell our son he needs to learn to be patient. Albeit in an attempted light hearted manner but it didn't sit well at all (I don't think I should have to announce his autism to not have a comment made. But if you know autism you know the knock on affect). The food was amazing and we will definitely be back sans kids. I don't know what was in the gravy but oh my days ....delicious.

Came in for food on a whim whilst walking past over the weekend and what a great find! Great selection of beers and I had exemplary service from Emily. She made a great fuss of our dog too, who really took a shining to her. She’s a credit to you, thank you for a wonderful time!

Came for a Sunday roast which was a very high standard. It was slightly on the pricey side but totally value for money. Would recommend going slightly earlier than we did, as some meats and the cauliflower cheese were finished by 7pm when we arrived. Great spot for a roast in Manchester City centre

What a lovely place for a quick weekday meal. I am glad that we booked in advance as despite being a table of two it was busy - even on a Tuesday! I enjoy a gammon steak, so saw the bacon chop on the menu however looking at the reviews there was a disappointing photo of the plate where the gammon steak was almost still oinking. When I sat down my friend mentioned her in-laws had it a few weeks prior and enjoyed it, so thought I would go for it. It did not disappoint however I did not think it was the best value for money dish on the menu. The mini pud and drink was also lovely. Would go back.

Only had time to stop for one drink. Nice location on the canal and was definitely surprised by the interior. Not to mention how nice it smelt in there 😅 Really friendly staff and the best pint i've had in a long time. Definitely found a gem for my first pub visit in Manchester.

The traditional decor creates a comfy, welcoming and cozy atmosphere. There are board games available and it is also pet friendly. Some areas are not fully accessible but most are with a lift to get to the first floor and a ramp to get to the main entrance. Check out the website to find out more about events on certain nights!

Still good to see this place is as good with the same excellent standards I experienced on my last visits! Had soup which I don't normally do....absolutely fantastic and would order again any time! Also tried the Goan chicken curry, again not something I'd normally order in a pub, but was honestly amazing! Still a far higher standard than any mere chain pub, staff are amazing, attentive, friendly and approachable and this time visited with a friend with a dog who also received a warm welcome with doggy refreshments provided too! Keep doing what you all do best! To the whole team at the Wharf, you've been amazing every time and keep living up to and exceeding expectations!

Parking fine despite validating. I appealed it and they still said it was valid. I appealed it again and it went to debt recovery plus ended up paying £170 even though I parked legally for less than 3 hours and validated. A pub that uses a militant parking company like they do is not a pub I want to attend ever again!

One of the better pubs for a nice place to sit outside. Inside is cosy with food choice of beer. Touch expensive, so don't come here for a session.

Probably the best manchester pub there is. Top notch atmosphere and pretty good service. Food is good gastro pub vibes - and there's a really good drink selection. Gets busy busy - so if you want a table outside in the summer you might have to be a ninja Likewise in the winter - the same for a table under a heater.

Flavoursome interesting menu. Food felt freshly cooked and beautifully presented. Slick attentive service and quickly served at bar even though it was peak time. In summer the outdoor area would be lovely by the canal and views to the buildings. Whilst Manchester has lot of choice, if looking for a roast or pub atmosphere, I will certainly most highly be considering here again

Excellent service and food. When we booked a table we asked for a quiet area which was well accommodated and meant I could have a really nice time! Although it's a really busy place the service is quick and very friendly and the food didn't take too long and was really good!

One of the best local pubs, large indoor and outdoor seating areas. And has a good size parking space, remember to sign in with your reg.

Visited today for Sunday lunch and was met with a warm welcome, the food was absolutely delicious, the best roast beef dinner I've had. Lovely atmosphere too, also dog friendly downstairs but impeccably clean. Staff very attentive too. Will be back soon for sure.

I love the place usually but today they fell short. There were some issues with the kitchen. Not their fault, but I was left waiting there with some friends. After 1 hour I decided to leave and pay for a couple of drinks that I wouldn't get if I knew there was no food. At least they could've offered those but they didn't even try

We have visited for the NYE. The food was amazing and the service was exceptional, they do really care about their customers and their comfort.

Visited the Wharf last night for New Years Eve. We were a party of 4. What a fantastic evening we had. The food was delicious, with an extensive/varied menu. The service from Megan was outstanding. The entertainment was superb. Katie, bar manager, was extremely pleasant and gave us a free round of shots to close a perfect evening. We will definitely return to the Wharf which is located in a lovely setting.

Enjoyed a great New Year's Eve here last night, and the food and service were excellent. We also regularly visit for food and drinks, and the service has always been top-notch.

Amazing pub in Manchester....Idyllic spot...Although I visited in winter...I think it's an ideal choice for wine and delicious food on summer days in the well-kept patio area. Very good fish and 🍟!! The venison is also a special and tasty dish!

Disappointed with the choice of food on Christmas menu on 27 December. Unfortunately, I was unable to eat anything from the menu, wasn't allowed a child's menu so had to have portion of chips whilst others tucked into sirloin steak. I was given no other alternatives. Whilst I appreciate it was the Christmas period and food choices may be limited some flexibility would have been helpful. Still love their Sunday roasts though 😂

Nice staff, Took care of the doggy with a doggy bowl and treats, but treats caused very smelly farts 😅😅 would recommend staff, but not the doggy treats :)

Good place for drinks xmas lunchtime

We did book quite late so we weren’t able to get the food preordered, even tho is was only for just over two hours, we never felt rushed and had very professional staff come and serve us. From the start till the end, they were really nice and the food was absolutely amazing and generous. Will definitely be back and we will be surely recommending the place.

Good pub food, nice environment in middle of Manchester

I came as part of a work Christmas social, where we had the three course Christmas menu. I had the fish cakes for starter, pork ribeye for main, and Christmas pudding for dessert. The food was delicious, well presented and delivered to the table in a timely manner, by fantastic staff who were very friendly and attentive, even with such a large booking. I will certainly consider coming back here as a smaller group.

Couldn’t believe how much choice there was on the standard menu for a gluten-intolerant diner. Staff were knowledgeable, attentive and very friendly - big shout out to Meg J and Emily who demonstrated fantastic product knowledge and impeccable customer-facing skills. They helped turn a celebration dinner into a really special occasion, all the more notable as the restaurant was really busy. Food was amazing and particularly impressed that a) a lot of other team members helped deliver different elements of our orders and b) that such a fuss was made of our (admittedly gorgeous) dog.

Given five star but, Gaucho's or Hawksmoor are 5 Star. the Wharf is 5 star for it's up-market pub range. Food is decent but a little overpriced. The roast especially is great and staff are friendly. Dogs welcome and a big sheltered area outside. Staff are usually very accommodating and this is a very stereotypical Brunning & Price where you aren't attacked by the staff (Unlike the Old Hall).

Found this place by accident. Warm, friendly, family friendly, great smelling food (we'd already eaten though), massive variety of drinks.

Lovely location and hopefully not a place many people know about next summer, as I'm looking forward to trying it again when it's warmer. My food was delicious, I had the quiche with some halloumi fries. My wife had the fish finger sandwich. Only issue with that was, it was rather batter heavy. They have a lovely selection of ales and beers, perfect for the connoisseur, sadly I was driving, so can't comment on temperature, head, etc. Accessibility is a breeze, a bit of a walk from the car park (don't forget to put your reg in at the bar), and there's even a lift to the toilet upstairs. The toilets were immaculate, clean, quality equipment and pleasant smelling. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Seating outside overlooking the Bridgewater canal, some covered and some open. Again spotless and clean. All in all it should be a 5* rating all but for the delay on a pot of tea they forgot and the batter on the fish. In fact to heck with it, I'm giving it a 5.

Well. Ordered the chicken dinner. So I expected probably slices of chicken but to my surprise when it arrived it came with 2xchicken legs. Wtf. Which didn't say that on the menu. Secondly, no yorkshire pudding came with that. Only comes if you order the beef dinner. The cabbage was really chewy. The roast potatoes were hard, and the mash! Well if I couldn't see it and if that what they call mash just a little slither then the are sadly out of form. Was it worth £21+ vat. never in a million yrs. I have had way better chicken dinners from carverys at half that price. Seriously I don't know how anyone can say or give this place good review. First n last time. They say first impressions last. Well I'll agree with that because my chicken dinner was an absolute joke.

Absolutely buzzing atmosphere when we visited this Sunday. And even though it was incredibly busy, we received attentive and friendly service. The roast lamb was perhaps the best I've ever had. Others in our group enjoyed the pie and roast pork. Great quality, lovely veg and gravy. You do need to order a Yorkshire pudding as an extra if you aren't having the beef. I highly recommend. Thank you to everyone for serving us. It was a great afternoon ☺️

Really liked this place, we went at lunch so was quiet and we only had some of the starter options to eat, but they were all really good. It isn't particularly cheap but at least the quality on offer is good. They also have an impressive amount of craft beers etc at the bar which are really good, and a large covered outdoor area for seating if you don't want to be in the restaurant. So whether it be food or drinks you're after, it's well worth a trip here.

Lovely place but the food menu needs improving. The atmosphere is lovely, the staff are very welcoming and accommodating and you get lovely views of the canals at the night time. The steak burger being the only. Utter option makes no sense. There’s not much options for non vegans/vegetarians or those who don’t eat pork. Every time I come here I have 2 options chips or bad apples asking salad. This would be a 5/5 if the food was better. The food cost too much to taste so bad. The Sunday lunch menu seems to be a lot better.

The wharf??!!? More like the dwarf! Not dwarf in terms of height! But in terms of pigs n blankets. One singular pig and blanket is not enough. Maybe it was shrunk in the wash but I don’t a cocktail sausage with a tiny blanket is not enough. Gravy was good though

I have to give 1 star this time. I normally love this place and the atmosphere in there, me and my friends are quite regulars every Sunday! This time had to walk away tho. We book a table for dining and the host at the arrive gave us a round table near the door! Soon we realized was bar area and we had to go on the bar and order there. We tried to change table asking couple of times but we've been denied on our request! I understand is busy which is good, but table on the bar area normally are giving for walk-ins! I work in hospitality as well but maybe not all the the places are the same. Just a bit disappointed though

I love this pub and its overall a very good venue but we were just charged £8 for one piece of Brie with breadcrumbs. Scandalous

En primer lugar, el personal del bar me pareció desagradable. Pedimos el Harrogate azul, espinacas, cebolla balsámico quiche que debería haber venido con manzana, apio y ensalada de uva. El quiche vino con unos pedazos de cohete flácido con una ensalada de papas poco apetitosa y sin ensalada de manzana, apio y uva. Le dije a la camarera que la ensalada había desaparecido. Luego fue a la cocina a buscarlo. Parecía como si hubiera cortado uvas y manzana, sin apio y parecía tan tirado. Y luego a mi amigo y a mí nos dieron uno para compartir en lugar de uno cada uno. La camarera se disculpó diciendo que era un nuevo chef! ¡No iré allí de nuevo!

Help host our Manchester run club every Wednesday and love it

Visited twice this week for Tabletop Manchester events. The pub is spacious, clean, and well decorated.

Traditional style pub on the bank of the canal with a distinctly countryside feel to it. Big terrace and 2 floors of indoor seating, plus a huge bar, offering a good selection of ales (incl. hand pulled) and usually fast / efficient service. Food is traditional pub fare, looks great for omnivores but a bit limited for vegans. Also it’s dog friendly. All in all, one of the best pubs in the city. Just tried the vegan Sunday (nut) roast today. Decent, but a bit sparse on vegetables for £20 (incl. service charge). Shame, this great pub lets itself down on food, certainly on the vegan dishes we have tried.

My favourite pub in the city centre, or on the outskirts, which is where The Wharf is located. It's not cheap, either for food or drinks, but the location and ambience more than compensate for that. Can be difficult to find seats if you haven't pre-booked. But that's done in less than a minute on their website.

Tuvimos dificultades al principio para ser alojado con nuestro perro, pero gran saludo a Lisa la camarera glaswegia que movió las mesas incluso en un día tan ocupado para encontrarnos un gran lugar 😀qué fabulosa enorme cena asada, bebidas y Lisa especialmente hecho para una maravillosa tarde de celebraciones.
