The Wharf in Manchester

A nice restaurant in a great waterfront neighborhood. You can also sit outside in comfort. Ordering at the bar with a table number... a bit of a shame, considering the restaurant's overall impression and the prices... Generally, the prices are a bit higher, but still OK. We had the Sunday roast, one pork and one roast beef. Everything was good when cooked, but unfortunately, apart from the potatoes and beans, everything was almost cold... yes, it's thinly sliced ​​and cools quickly, but it was really cold. Unfortunately, no waiter came by so we could say anything. The Yorkshire pudding was only brought out after we asked, even though it was listed with the dish, which is a shame. It tasted good, but other than the look, nothing special.

I came here on Sunday we booked a month and a half in advance and a month before the reservation we rang to book another table and asked if there’s any chance they could be together. We were told maybe not together but they would definitely be near each other. It was my friends birthday and everyone had completed the half marathon that day so we were celebrating. We were greeted by ignorance on arrival, the host telling us it has nothing to do with them, and that it one of our tables is downstairs and the other upstairs. When seated there were plenty of empty tables that could’ve been for us but were not. The only good service we got was the lovely girl who brought us our food. After sitting down and telling the host our friends would be joining us shortly and checking for BOTH tables when our friends arrived they were scoffed at and told that we didn’t have the table anymore as we hadn’t turned up for it. I am extremely disappointed by this venue, the only thing good about it is the food which is overpriced. Put a huge dampener on my friends birthday and all that ran the half marathon. As some one who works in hospitality I can understand if somewhere is busy and how stressful this can be but this level of customer service isn’t acceptable do better.

Disappointed by the Staff’s Attitude Over Optional Service Charge The food here was decent—nothing exceptional, but no major complaints either. However, the service experience left a sour taste. During dinner on Sunday, 11/May, my group (fewer than 6 people) was attended to with basic, routine service: taking orders and delivering food. Nothing warranted the optional service charge, so I politely requested its removal. To my surprise, the male staff member handling payments (short hair, working the first-floor cashier) reacted with clear irritation: he rolled his eyes, let out an exaggerated sigh, and “threw”the receipt in front of me. After payment, he turned away without a word of thanks or professionalism. If the service charge is truly optional, staff shouldn’t guilt-trip or disrespect customers for declining it—especially when no extra effort was made. It’s a shame because the meal itself was fine, but this encounter overshadowed it. Management should address such unprofessional behavior.

Great canal side pub, a good place to relax after a day in the city. Can get busy but service usually keeps up.

One of our favourite pubs in Manchester. Great place to drink both in winter and summer - in winter they have a few heaters outdoors but not many so it can be quite chilly, but they bring out a cover so still a great place to sit. Fish and chips were great, it’s definitely not a cheap place to drink and eat but very relaxed and no loud music! Only thing to be aware of is the run club meets here on Wednesdays, not an issue but just makes it quite busy. And on a sunny day you will be pressed to find outdoor seating. Overall a fantastic pub is a great location by the canals.

Great pint of Guinness (£6.50). Food is always top notch and large outdoor seating for the sun. Glad they opened up another bar outside, bonus!

Never been before, would highly recommend. The atmosphere spot on, the staff absolutely wonderful with service, manners and care and attention. The food was beautifully served and tasted delicious. Very busy venue but not over noisy and the staff were very busy making sure everyone was looked after. What a wonderful experience. 😁

Yet again, The Wharf have gone above & beyond with food, service & atmosphere. They've given us 2 amazing Christmas days so far & now another outstanding day celebrating my husband's Big Birthday. Can't thank them or praise them enough for all they do to make it extra special.

If you want a chilled out drink or meal just 5 mins out of the city, this is perfect. Fabulous food and drink, amazing cocktails. The hospitality here was refreshingly genuine, all in all it was a pleasure to dine here and would definitely recommend 😀 special thanks to our server (supervisor) and the G.M who was doing a fantastic job for customer service st it's best. Well for a chain pub they go above and beyond and our Scottish waitress was outstanding. Over all a very nice dinning experience.

I randomly visited the Wharf recently, it happened by mistake they venue i was attending for lunch had was not serving food that day, due to a private event. I wondered around Manchester centre, and found this establishment. Highly recommend and it is a great experience either family orientated or a night out with friends. 😊

This place has it all! Great views, chilled atmosphere, amazing staff and the nicest food. Large portions at a very reasonable price. If you ever want to sit and relax next to the canal or watch the night skyline light up then this is the perfect spot. Can’t wait to return.

Visited on Easter Sunday. I hadn't booked as we didn't know what time we'd be there. Even though it was very busy, they still found us a table for 2 upstairs straight away. Staff calmly kept everyone fed and watered. Food was lovely.

Great view of castlefield bowl whilst you enjoy your food

Food was fine but nothing special, but £19 for pie & mash? Portions were not big but OK for a lunch. It cost us £90 for two pie & mash, one fish & chips & a child meal plus four beers & 1 soft drink; they then add 10% 'service charge' including on drinks which I got myself from the bar! Overpriced.

If you are French, do not go with your driving license because the security guards are unable to know if they are real identity documents. It was the third time I went there and they refused entry after a long check of my license on the pretext that they had never seen one. Too bad because it's a very nice place but the security guard is very unpleasant. I quote "you can laugh, I'll be paid at the end of the day" because we were laughing in French because we are 23 years old, a long way from 18 years old

Sirviendo un menú con selecciones de platos pequeños, gran pub principal tipo grub (filete, hamburguesa, pescado con patatas fritas) este es un gran lugar para tomar asiento y dejar que el mundo pase en un día soleado. La comida era excelente, teníamos una gama compartida de aperitivos y pastado al sol. Perfecto! Imagino que los fines de semana esto probablemente se pondría muy ocupado. Un par de minutos a pie de la estación de deansgate, este encantador lugar es ideal para una tarde tranquila.

Went last Saturday, 2.30 and the place was manic, okay the sun was out loads of people enjoying the weather, very noisy inside. On arrival told our table not ready yet as previous customers not finished so about 5 mins, was more like 10. When we were seated the first thing we were told was the whole room was booked for 4.30. Ordered our food service was quite slow, the food was nice but my son ordered chips as a side and they looked lovely but after taking a couple out the rest were little bits that were burnt and looked 'old'. As we had our starters to be served at the same time as our mains and we are not slow eaters and we had deserts, very tasty, as they came the waitress said they needed the table in 10mins! If we had had our starters as a separate course we would never have been finished in the time they had allotted as we were sat down late. The feeling of being rushed ruined the whole experience, maybe they should consider a bit of extra time before each seating. Food was tasty, portion sizes okay, was only warm not hot. Although we were in a smaller side room the noise was loud. It would have been terrible if you were hard of hearing. I saw a dog inside, actually don't have a problem with that however owner's should keep them under control as this one jumped up at a table twice and they were not even seated at a table! All in all we came out and all said not a place we would visit again.

Nice pub great location and atmosphere but the prices are absolutely mad. We’ve paid £4.25 for a Coke and at times £6.5 for a beer. The food is bang average and about 1.5x the cost for the privilege of a riverside view. Really need to review prices here, especially given the food isn’t particularly exciting!

I was invited by a group of friends who already frequented the pub and I was pleasantly surprised. It was a large, beautiful, well-organized place with a very pleasant view of the canal in Castlefoeld. It was very busy on Sunday and the staff seemed a little stressed, but we were served by a very friendly and attentive blonde girl who took care of our table upstairs. Unfortunately, we didn't catch her name. I recommend it to anyone who wants to experience good food in a welcoming environment.

Lovely pub, great selection of drinks and very friendly staff. The pub is pet friendly which makes it even more enjoyable.

Sunday Lunch in April 2025 Very very underwhelming for the price. Cut down selection due to running out of some of the roasts and poor quality on the plate. The stuffing which we ordered as a side dish looked like it had been made in a machine and tasted like it. It was cooked well done on each slice and barely cooked on the other side. 5 x 5mm thick slices for £5 was terrible value and quality. The roast potatoes were few in number and tasted like warm ups from the day before. The gravy was sparse on the plates so we had to ask for more. The Roast beef portion size was absolutely risible for the price - two wafer thin slices is a kids portion - not the centre piece of a Sunday Lunch. Given the price charged it was offensively small. This is our second try at this place which we want to love as it is local to us but we will not return nor recommend. Avoid would be our advice. Manchester City centre has some great Sunday lunches. This is not one of them.

I replaced my daily coffee break with a paint break once after I discovered the amazing Castlefield canal-side neighborhood and The Wharf. If you are looking to end a tiring day with a good pint of ale and a beautiful view of Castlefield canal, boats, bridges, viaducts, and trains running overhead, this is a place which has it all. Everything is pretty decent here: drinks, food, and the atmosphere. The vibe is just right and balanced; they have plenty of space both indoor and outdoor, so the chances are less that you'll be disappointed if you decide to pop in randomly. This may sound funny, but they had so far the prettiest gents' room I have ever seen, decorated with colorful tiles and informative posters about Manchester. The Wharf - I am going to remember this place for a long time.

The location is great, the plates look big but they don't feel heavy when finished.

Not great.... Food not very hot from start to finish!!! , bit of confusion from the start..... Won't go into too much detail... late lunch with only 3 other peoples having food in the whole place.. Really nice venue, staffs on duty OK,veggy curry really really good, but gamon steak egg and chips, really not great ... Gamon well over cooked.. eggs frazzled under the heat lamp,but the time it came to us was luk warm?? at the cost of over £15???love gamon steak, but sorry to say, worse one for a long time...

Not what it used to be, really. Prices have gone up, while quality and service have sharply declined. This used to be one of my favourite places, but I removed it from my list after two bad experiences with my family. The portions of protein were small, and the food was bland. The dessert options were below average, and the attention was awful. The receptionist and booking staff, in particular, were very disrespectful and rude. I kindly asked for a table preference, but the staff member kept interrupting me and speaking loudly in a rude manner. Although he later tried to fix things up after noticing I was upset. If my family and I want to enjoy a good place for a roast or a British dinner, this definitely won’t be the place, there is not quality-value offering worth your money and time

Met my friend here, my first time, nice and tidy place, bar staff were friendly, there was ample dining tables but few places to sit and socialise, we visited on a Sunday, they opened the doors at 12, we had to join a cue to gain entry, free car parking at the side of the pub, as it was Sunday lunch time the tables very quickly filled up with families, and the noise level was such as even sat next to each other we could not hear wa we were saying and so left to find a quieter place,

Worst fish and chips I have had in years. The place itself is fine good selection of ales and convivial enough and my friends were happy with their pies but do not have the fish and chips !!

The Wharf will allow you to enjoy a good tea 🍵 or a good beer 🍺... everyone's choice... nevertheless the place and one of the most atypical places in Manchester...

Very well located by the canal, nice pub atmosphere for a Sunday roast. Accommodating team to find us a place without reservation even though the establishment was full.

Mi esposa era les entusiasta en &er pescado + patatas fritas, pero sabía bien para mí. Las comidas de niños fueron un éxito. El interior del restaurante es de muy buen gusto y la vista exterior es súper. No he estado en 10 años, pero sigue siendo excelente.

Came here for valentine’s as it didn’t restrict you to a set menu like a lot of other places. It was 7pm and the place was packed! We were seen to quickly. I had chosen to book a drinks table so we could sit in the main part of the pub where there’s more atmosphere. Despite how busy it was the service was amazing, the only thing better was the food. I had the pork ribeye steak and a side of buttered vegetables. Every mouthful was delicious and today I’m still thinking about it 🤤 my fella had the steak burger and we washed it down with a bottle of Pinot Noir. It was about £70 including the service charge which was automatically added.

The staff respected our request for a quiet table so we could chat with a balcony table over looking the restaurant. Very attentive staff and a delicious relaxed meal. Just what we wanted

We had booked a table for 230pm on a Sunday. While we appreciated being able to bring a cake in for the birthday boy and the arrangements made for that, we were a little upset having to wait for our table to be ready. We had to wait at the bar with children and when I chased up our table after 15 minutes (I explained our youngest was getting impatient- he wasn't, he was struggling (autism) as it was so busy and we were at the bar) the host thought it appropriate to tell our son he needs to learn to be patient. Albeit in an attempted light hearted manner but it didn't sit well at all (I don't think I should have to announce his autism to not have a comment made. But if you know autism you know the knock on affect). The food was amazing and we will definitely be back sans kids. I don't know what was in the gravy but oh my days ....delicious.

What a lovely place for a quick weekday meal. I am glad that we booked in advance as despite being a table of two it was busy - even on a Tuesday! I enjoy a gammon steak, so saw the bacon chop on the menu however looking at the reviews there was a disappointing photo of the plate where the gammon steak was almost still oinking. When I sat down my friend mentioned her in-laws had it a few weeks prior and enjoyed it, so thought I would go for it. It did not disappoint however I did not think it was the best value for money dish on the menu. The mini pud and drink was also lovely. Would go back.

Came for a Sunday roast which was a very high standard. It was slightly on the pricey side but totally value for money. Would recommend going slightly earlier than we did, as some meats and the cauliflower cheese were finished by 7pm when we arrived. Great spot for a roast in Manchester City centre

The traditional decor creates a comfy, welcoming and cozy atmosphere. There are board games available and it is also pet friendly. Some areas are not fully accessible but most are with a lift to get to the first floor and a ramp to get to the main entrance. Check out the website to find out more about events on certain nights!

Still good to see this place is as good with the same excellent standards I experienced on my last visits! Had soup which I don't normally do....absolutely fantastic and would order again any time! Also tried the Goan chicken curry, again not something I'd normally order in a pub, but was honestly amazing! Still a far higher standard than any mere chain pub, staff are amazing, attentive, friendly and approachable and this time visited with a friend with a dog who also received a warm welcome with doggy refreshments provided too! Keep doing what you all do best! To the whole team at the Wharf, you've been amazing every time and keep living up to and exceeding expectations!

Parking fine despite validating. I appealed it and they still said it was valid. I appealed it again and it went to debt recovery plus ended up paying £170 even though I parked legally for less than 3 hours and validated. A pub that uses a militant parking company like they do is not a pub I want to attend ever again!

Probably the best manchester pub there is. Top notch atmosphere and pretty good service. Food is good gastro pub vibes - and there's a really good drink selection. Gets busy busy - so if you want a table outside in the summer you might have to be a ninja Likewise in the winter - the same for a table under a heater.

Excellent service and food. When we booked a table we asked for a quiet area which was well accommodated and meant I could have a really nice time! Although it's a really busy place the service is quick and very friendly and the food didn't take too long and was really good!

Flavoursome interesting menu. Food felt freshly cooked and beautifully presented. Slick attentive service and quickly served at bar even though it was peak time. In summer the outdoor area would be lovely by the canal and views to the buildings. Whilst Manchester has lot of choice, if looking for a roast or pub atmosphere, I will certainly most highly be considering here again

Visited today for Sunday lunch and was met with a warm welcome, the food was absolutely delicious, the best roast beef dinner I've had. Lovely atmosphere too, also dog friendly downstairs but impeccably clean. Staff very attentive too. Will be back soon for sure.

I love the place usually but today they fell short. There were some issues with the kitchen. Not their fault, but I was left waiting there with some friends. After 1 hour I decided to leave and pay for a couple of drinks that I wouldn't get if I knew there was no food. At least they could've offered those but they didn't even try

Visited the Wharf last night for New Years Eve. We were a party of 4. What a fantastic evening we had. The food was delicious, with an extensive/varied menu. The service from Megan was outstanding. The entertainment was superb. Katie, bar manager, was extremely pleasant and gave us a free round of shots to close a perfect evening. We will definitely return to the Wharf which is located in a lovely setting.

Enjoyed a great New Year's Eve here last night, and the food and service were excellent. We also regularly visit for food and drinks, and the service has always been top-notch.

We have visited for the NYE. The food was amazing and the service was exceptional, they do really care about their customers and their comfort.

Amazing pub in Manchester....Idyllic spot...Although I visited in winter...I think it's an ideal choice for wine and delicious food on summer days in the well-kept patio area. Very good fish and 🍟!! The venison is also a special and tasty dish!
