Visited on Sunday and the Sunday dinner if the best I have ever had. Unbelievable flavour and what you would call 100% Sunday dinner. Staff was very welcoming and pub is very clean. Fabulous food here

Come down to see Peter Kay, thought we'd call in for a drink and something to eat but was told there stopped doing food and that they just had fish and chips left. Although I understand it may have been busier then usual but poor planning by management.

We went to watch the rugby and eat some food. Got there around 3pm and after half an hour we got a menu from the bar. We weren’t told when the kitchen was going to close, and a waitress communicated with us about ordering food and there was also no mention of the kitchen closing. After 20 minutes of browsing a very poor selection menu we went to order food only to be told that the kitchen had closed. This was 3:30pm on a Saturday afternoon with no warning. Very poor service and overall experience.

We had no food, but I can tell you about everything else... Great place, stylish, friendly atmosphere and clean. Highly recommend

Hilariously bad. Sick on floors not cleaned up until the cleaners came in the next morning, rats flying about the beer garden having a great time and not one stone roses song played.

As a person who has been in the premises for a drink and a meal all I can say is breathtaking service, awesome staff, awesome food,and excellent drink.and top class atmosphere in the premises. I recently went to the premises for a couple of drinks of beer and I was shocked,I ended up with twenty pence change from a ten pound note. I won't be returning to the premises all that quickly just to throw money away 😔

Place was busy. Full of football fans Not what we wanted but beer was cold and tasted good

Very friendly staff, the food was ok, the prawns were overcooked and bland. The lamb was tough and the dirty fries had a clump of burnt beef on them.

Nice atmosphere, and a pleasant surprise to find non-alcoholic beverages other than Coke.

Happened upon the pub as everywhere else was busy and wasn't expecting much, but was impressed. Lovely service and the food was a lot better than I thought it would be (vegan breakfast).

Ic cannot understand why he has not reviewed this pub before. We have been many times over the years. Ic and I love Joe Holt's bitter. Lovely pub by Shambles Square where 4 pubs are in spitting distance of each other. As a result it is not the cheapest pub in the Holt's Empire but they have put a lot of money into their pub chain. Good choice for pub food and a Sunday roast for £14. Their pie is £14.45 so prices reflect location. Flat Eric's welcome. Ic was recognised.

My sister brought me to this pub...it has been here i think many years and i've never been in. Until today that is, a nice warm welcome and served really well. Will come again many thanks

Visitamos la corona y el ancla para un lugar para almorzar después de la vida en el parque este fin de semana en Manchester. El personal no podría haber sido más servicial y se interesó mucho en nosotros cuando nos atendieron, preguntando cómo fue nuestro fin de semana, etc. Había un gran bullicio en el lugar y tenía un ambiente muy agradable. Había un montón de opciones en el menú y la comida era de un alto nivel y exactamente lo que estábamos buscando! Mi amiga pensó entonces que había perdido sus airpods y preguntó al personal si se los habían entregado. A pesar de que no era el caso, las señoras detrás de la barra eran muy serviciales y la ayudó a buscarlos por la zona del bar y la zona que estábamos sentados! Sin duda volvería y recomendaría tanto para una bebida o lugar de almuerzo!

Lovely, relaxed atmosphere. Staff friendly and helpful. Good ale, at prices better than nearby competitors, and much cheaper than in my home city, Belfast. If we're back in Manchester, we'll be here!

Saturday 1st June 2024 Today 23 ca.e to this great Manchester Holts real ale pub near victoria train station. Absolutely packed plastic glasses tonight, 5 pounds a pint. Par for prices here now, though. Great atmosphere 4 handpumped Holts ales on Hand Pumped Great staff tonight also. In this area, it's what it is 😥

Decent public house. Friendly staff reasonable prices for the area. Decent beers. Didn't eat here but the food looked decent.

Nice pub in a nice part of town. Food and drink were good, but a little pricey.not a massive amount of atmosphere, but if you like to relax and chill out it would be a good place to visit.

We came here as a lunch stop before attending a football game. There was a good range of drinks, my partner really liked the lager selection and that they were an own brand of beer! We wanted a light lunch where we both had the chicken wraps and some chip to share the food was DELICIOUS and it was a good varied menu, we will definitely look to come back in the future the next time we’re in Manchester!

What a great meat pie! I was a bit disappointed the peas were not mashed, but the meat stew was amazing!

Had a sunday lunch, great value.

We have visited the Crown & Anchor A few times previously and enjoyed the meal so we couldn't wait to get back. The menu has changed this time from our last visit but the staff were kind enough to make a few adjustments so I could have the meal I was hoping for. The food was served quickly and was delicious. There is a good atmosphere in the bar but it can get quite busy when football is on. There is free wifi but it's terrible with the connection being lost constantly making it practically unusable but maybe it's just where we were sat. We had a very enjoyable meal and I'm sure we'll be back again soon during our next trip to the city.

Great Holts pub, good beer, we didn't eat that day but I have on previous occasions and it's good grub

Had a interview if you want to call.it that. Lasted about a minute. No questions asked. Did look at my certification and praised on it. Got told no. Didn't even get time to drink my coffee

A decent holts in the city, wish they still sold Guinness, I'm not a fan of the alternative 😉

Pizza plus fish and chips and 3 drinks for under £30. Brisket pizza, perfect dough, tomato sauce and toppings. Holt's ale is the best in the region if not country. The Black is sublime. And a warm welcome too. Cheers.

Spot on pub. They sell their own brew ales, which are great. Loads of screens for the sport, and the staff are super friendly.

The best fish & chips in the area. Better attention than others in the surrounding area where they ignore you. Very attentive and pleasant service.

Well yet again that Sunday Roast was next level. We got there a little early for Mothers Day and I’m so glad we did because as soon as we sat down the place filled up so quickly. The most amazing beef and it was all piping hot which is always a bonus when you get to your green and veggies. The whole team super friendly and the check backs were lovely and appreciated. Honesty five star food and five star service firm a very friendly and welcoming team. Mum had a lovely afternoon. I’ll be back soon!

I went there for Sunday roast on the derby match day. The roast was nice and the staff were very friendly.

The bar staff absolutely made our night, friendly and funny and the food was spectacular. Definitely worth the visit!

Great place for a quick bite. Chose a selection from the small plates option, hot chicken, pork belly and patatas bravas. Service quick even though the pub was very busy. Definitely recommend it.

I had the salted caramel sunde and I was disappointed 😞 basically it was a scoop of salted caramel and a scoop of vanilla ice cream with a blob of cream ontop with the smallest chocolate flake I've ever seen and a bit of chocolate sauce but it was presented very nicely.

Absolutely fantastic pub food is out of this world Christmas dinner special obviously weeks up to Christmas lovely stuff lovely atmosphere two minutes away from the Arndale so you can have shopping lunch and more shopping

Still going strong, this is a well run pub just off Exchange Square with good ales and I recall decent pub food on previous visits pre-pandemic.

Came into the crown and anker for a spot of food as we were waiting for our train home. I ordered 3 small plates as we’ve had them previously in another Joseph Holt pub. It seemed to take a while for a few small plates to come from the kitchen as we waited almost 25 minutes and the rest of the pub was quiet. Once the food arrived all I can say was the food looked bang average. The garlic mushrooms were bland and white.. you eat with your eyes and this was off putting to say the least. And the pork belly was drenched in oil! Hiding it under garnish doesn’t discard the fact that it’s there drowning in oil. The rest of the small dishes we had were adequate. There was no member of staff coming over and seeing if everything was ok with our food because if there was I would have told them how bad the food actually was. Staff walking around the bar eating food in plain sight. Over all a bad experience and will never be returning again.

Used to be excellent and good value for money. The portions now are measly to put it mildly e.g. a chicken wrap = the smallest wrap you can buy with chopped up chicken bits in it. Chicken wings = 3 for nearly £5. A small bowl of chips = about 10 chips nearly a fiver. Drinks prices significantly increased too. Used to love this pub we avoid it now.

Booked and paid for a room at this place through booking.com for a night 6th october, received a messagexon 4th asking what time we would be arriving as check in closes at 7pm. I replied that we would be there around 4pm. We arrived at the property at 4.30 only to find it was a building site and clearly had been for some time. It was all locked up and in darkness, there was no contact details available to find out what was going on. We were left stranded with nowhere to stay for the night. Finally found a room somewhere else but was further out of the city centre and was almost double the cost. Im not sure who was at fault, the manager or booking.com but our weekend was totally ruined. Very disappointing 😞
