Ic cannot understand why he has not reviewed this pub before. We have been many times over the years. Ic and I love Joe Holt's bitter. Lovely pub by Shambles Square where 4 pubs are in spitting distance of each other. As a result it is not the cheapest pub in the Holt's Empire but they have put a lot of money into their pub chain. Good choice for pub food and a Sunday roast for £14. Their pie is £14.45 so prices reflect location. Flat Eric's welcome. Ic was recognised.

We visited the crown and anchor for a spot of lunch after parklife this weekend in Manchester. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating and took a real interest in us when being served, asking how our weekend was etc. There was a great buzz to the place and it had a really friendly atmosphere. There was plenty choice on the menu and the food was to a high standard and exactly what we were after! My friend then thought she lost her airpods and asked the staff if they had been handed it. Despite this not being the case, the ladies behind the bar were super helpful and helped her search for them around the bar area and the area we were sitting! Will definitely be back and would recommend for both a drink or spot of lunch!

We have visited the Crown & Anchor A few times previously and enjoyed the meal so we couldn't wait to get back. The menu has changed this time from our last visit but the staff were kind enough to make a few adjustments so I could have the meal I was hoping for. The food was served quickly and was delicious. There is a good atmosphere in the bar but it can get quite busy when football is on. There is free wifi but it's terrible with the connection being lost constantly making it practically unusable but maybe it's just where we were sat. We had a very enjoyable meal and I'm sure we'll be back again soon during our next trip to the city.

A Tranquil Culinary Retreat: Crown & Anchor Experience Choosing Crown & Anchor for lunch was a delightful decision for multiple reasons. Firstly, the serene location provided a welcome escape from the crowds, offering a peaceful dining atmosphere just a few feet away. Opting to sit outside was a pleasant touch, allowing me to enjoy the moment amidst a calm setting. The diverse menu caught my attention, offering enticing options that aligned with my dietary preferences, promising not just sustenance but an enjoyable culinary experience. Ordering at the counter streamlined the process, and the attentive staff made the entire experience seamless. The standout dish was the steak 🥩 kabob with vegetables – expertly prepared and a burst of flavors that left a lasting impression. Accompanied by fries that struck the perfect balance of softness and crispiness, they were notably devoid of excess grease, making the meal thoroughly satisfying. 😋👍🏻🫶 Crown & Anchor's combination of tranquil ambiance, friendly service, and delicious cuisine makes it a top choice for those seeking a moment of culinary bliss away from the urban hustle.

Came into the crown and anker for a spot of food as we were waiting for our train home. I ordered 3 small plates as we’ve had them previously in another Joseph Holt pub. It seemed to take a while for a few small plates to come from the kitchen as we waited almost 25 minutes and the rest of the pub was quiet. Once the food arrived all I can say was the food looked bang average. The garlic mushrooms were bland and white.. you eat with your eyes and this was off putting to say the least. And the pork belly was drenched in oil! Hiding it under garnish doesn’t discard the fact that it’s there drowning in oil. The rest of the small dishes we had were adequate. There was no member of staff coming over and seeing if everything was ok with our food because if there was I would have told them how bad the food actually was. Staff walking around the bar eating food in plain sight. Over all a bad experience and will never be returning again.

Used to be excellent and good value for money. The portions now are measly to put it mildly e.g. a chicken wrap = the smallest wrap you can buy with chopped up chicken bits in it. Chicken wings = 3 for nearly £5. A small bowl of chips = about 10 chips nearly a fiver. Drinks prices significantly increased too. Used to love this pub we avoid it now.

Booked and paid for a room at this place through booking.com for a night 6th october, received a messagexon 4th asking what time we would be arriving as check in closes at 7pm. I replied that we would be there around 4pm. We arrived at the property at 4.30 only to find it was a building site and clearly had been for some time. It was all locked up and in darkness, there was no contact details available to find out what was going on. We were left stranded with nowhere to stay for the night. Finally found a room somewhere else but was further out of the city centre and was almost double the cost. Im not sure who was at fault, the manager or booking.com but our weekend was totally ruined. I booked 2 nights accommodation for Sept 23rd to 24th, receiving confirmation on May 1st. Two weeks prior to the trip I received a notification of cancellation from Booking.com, stating that the Crown & Anchor had cancelled, siting "overbooking" as a reason. I tried to get any explanation from the business, and was promised answers & return emails/calls, but none came. Booking.com were very apologetic, and did find me an alternative, albeit £10 more and nearly 3 miles further away. There was nothing available closer in at a similar price, due to the lateness of the cancellation. I find this treatment from the Crown & Anchor absolutely appalling. They have not even offered an explanation, nor an offer of compensation for my inconvenience.

I go here with friends after catching an evening show as it's always quiet, even on weekends, which is fine for us. Most of the staff are fine and friendly, but I was taken aback at how rude one staff member was when I asked for a herbal tea one evening. I've been to loads of pubs with friends where sometimes we just sit with soft drinks, especially after something tame like a play or movie. The bartender snorted and asked what I was doing to myself (implied: for not drinking). I think he felt guilty after he made that comment, but I wish he would have apologised. It's a strange attitude to have given that we were still going to be paying customers and not everyone has to drink *all the time*.
