We thought we were in a rip off version of "Karen's Diner"!! The Landlord; (we assume he was the landlord, as anyone else would be sacked for their attitude) was just awful. He was rude, unaccommodating & obnoxious. Firstly when I asked where the beer garden was, a remark was made about me getting cancer when advised where this was. Secondly we were quizzed on why my wife needed cutlery (we were sharing the starter, but were surprised we needed to justify our request, also told him this at the time of ordering),this was then was met with a rude response and then our condiments slung across the table at us. When the food was brought out I when was in the toilet, but again the Landlord started going on about me going for a "cancer stick" again, my wife told him he was rude, to which he replied he wasn't. (This was no way banter, my wife had told him he was being rude and just tried to condone it). The steak was OK, the chips were undercooked and hard. All in all a very bad experience. If we had have been within walking distance to where we were staying we would have simply left after the 1st comment (who wants to be judged on a night out). Save your money and go somewhere that welcomes you, rather than leaves you feeling uncomfortable & judged!!

We had 3 kids with us, who all found something on the menu (which is usually a challenge) there was a big selection and what we ordered was spot on. Had lunch this week....venue is a traditional Somerset country pub...no frills just an honest aged place to eat / drink etc. We recently paid over £100 for a steakhouse lunch in Bristol but wanted to lower our expense on this occasion so we thought the Wellington would be a good choice. Obviously a pub steak can't compete with a steakhouse steak and the prices there reflect that. Good seating & a very friendly landlord ensured a good welcome. The food was priced very reasonable considering ever hiking prices of all foodstuffs, yeah home cooked chips which is very very rare these days were the bomb. Side veg very tasty & plentiful. The money ball is always the steaks & these were very good & cooked perfectly to our liking. Yeah we be back & the Wellington is highly recommended if you just wanna notch it down abit

We called here last night for food because we decided to eat out on our last night of our holiday. I had already read previous reviews before starting our holiday and had saved the pub in my favourites. The landlord and staff were very friendly and helpful. The landlord chatted with us quite a bit bit but not too much as to disturb our evening. We ordered a varied range from the menu and everyone enjoyed their choices. In particular the liver and onions, very rarely found on menus.

We stopped in The Wellington Arms whilst staying locally at The New Inn hotel. As this venue was based in the services area of the M5 the choice of decent food was non-existent, so I used TripAdvisor to search for somewhere nice to eat and the pub had such good reviews, there was no other choice. The atmosphere was so friendly, the staff were warm, welcoming, and great entertainment. I had a T-bone steak, and the wife had a sirloin, both great cuts of meat, both cooked to perfection. You can tell a great amount of pride is taken in the food and drink, and the pub is run by people that know exactly how to run a 'proper pub'. The steaks were a great price, with fresh cut chips, fantastic, battered onions rings, mushrooms and I had a lovely peppercorn sauce. I cannot recommend this pub and Steve highly enough, if you are in the area, do yourself a favour, avoid all those chain restaurants and get yourself in here! Note: -Booking is recommended as it gets very busy, and the eating area is not that big

Stopped here yesterday en-route to Cheddar Gorge. We initially only stopped for a quick drink but upon seeing they served food we decided to order lunch - this turned out to be a good decision as the food was delicious & good value too. I had traditional fish, chips & mushy peas & my friend had sirloin steak with all the trimmings & stilton sauce. Very friendly landlord & very reasonable prices. Great selection of real ales on offer too. I had a pint of Gem ale & my friend had a pint of Blackthorn cider - both were perfect so the landlord also keeps his beers & ciders well. We will definitely be back again soon as proper local pubs with good home-cooked food sold at un-extortionate prices seem to be getting rarer by the day. Keep up the good work. Highly recommended!

We forgot it was Easter Sunday, just day 1 of our holiday to us. So challenge was on to find anywhere open for dinner. Lucky for us - we chanced upon The Wellington Arms!!! Wow! Yummy well cooked traditional pub food, generous portions and very reasonable prices. Steve welcomed us and held the kitchen open, even though he was about to stop serving food. Cook and Steve all brought us food and drinks with friendly welcome and checked we had all we needed (sauces etc). The locals and other visitors all chatting together and sharing tales. After the awkward silence we first walked into (gulp) they welcomed us happily to join in the friendly conversation. Don’t judge a book as they say. Give it a few minutes and you’ll have an evening of gorgeous food and friendly banter. Totally recommend this jewel of a pub and we will be going back many times this week. I don’t understand how this place has got so many good reviews. We wanted somewhere with a beer garden as we wanted to be outside in these Covid times but it is a huge stretch to call it that. It was so tiny, there is scaffolding up all over the building & weeds everywhere. The tables were filthy & didn’t look like they had been wiped for months so we felt we were better off sitting indoors. The food was ok but certainly nothing special. We then waited about 40 minutes for the table to be cleared & puddings brought (with kids this was frustrating). The barman just constantly told everyone how busy he was & had no customer service skills. People were coming in stating that they had bookings & he just said ‘yeah’. There was no warm welcome at all.

We were highly recommended by our friends before so we thought we were coming for a great meal. We entered the bar and straight away we were told that we couldn’t do card transaction on individual occasions so we had to set up a tab because the landlord would have to pay extra for individual transactions, which I’ve in a pub for 5 years and have never told a customer they had to do that. We sat down at our table, we decided what we wanted and then went up to the bar, the landlord took our orders we orders 2 starters 4 steaks and 3 sauces to come. After 10 minutes our starters came out, the cheesy garlic bread was soggy/microwaved and before he placed them on the table he told us to remove our “cancer sticks” off the table (our cigarettes) after we removed them he placed our starters down, because there was such little amount of bread it was gone in 2 seconds. We waited another 10 minutes for ours plates to be cleared and then another 25 minutes for our mains to be brought out to us, the pub was empty so the food shouldn’t have taken this long to come out. Every fillet steak looked completely different sizes/shapes, certainly different portions of chips and peas and onion rings. As I said before we ordered 3 sauces to come with our 4 steaks but only 1 sauce came out and we asked where our other 2 sauces were and the landlord said we didn’t order them with him, which we did as we placed our entire order with him at the bar. As soon as we ate our meal we left to go and pay the bill at the bar, we were charged for 4 sauces instead of 3 which we order. I went back and got my money back for 1 one the sauces that was extra on our bill (even though it was £1.50) but it’s still the principle of it. Also, beware of the dog, reico is very friendly but barks constantly.Would not go again.

We have been before, highly recommended it to our friends. Worst mistake... won't be returning. I have given two stars 1: for the price and 2: the dog. We had our starters.. Soggy garlic bread. Then had to wait for 30 mins for our mains, and it was not busy we were the only ones in the restaurant. Before the food was placed in front of us the rude owner insisted before he gave us our food our cancer sticks must leave the table. Then said any sauces? I politely said we have two peppercorn sauces to come... He then said you never ordered them! I did and he took my order. Instead of saying sorry he then walked off to return 10 seconds later with two sauces... basically calling me a lier!Didn't enjoy my food after that. Such a shame the dog barked at my partner he then looked at him and said that's because you are going for a fag. Mate you own a pub????? I think he was very sarcastic and arragont.Such a shame as I have my own business and praised this pub giving recommendations. I just hope my customers don't have the same experiance I have.

Return visor to the pub we found few years ago and yet again excellent food and drinks were provided. The fillet steak perfectly cooked as were all the trimmings, quality meat tastier than Miller & Carter at unbelievably prices. Good choice of puddings really tasty. A Great welcome from the landlord and an excellent choice of ciders and beer. Definitely will return

We stopped in The Wellington Arms whilst staying localling in The Rookery Manor. We fancied eating somewhere that knew how to cook great food, with a little research, with such good reviews, there was no other choice. The atmosphere was so friendly, the staff were warm, welcoming and great entertainment. We had a Fillet steak and a Ribeye steak, both great cuts of meat, both cooked to perfection. You can tell a great amount of pride is taken in the food and drink, and the pub is run by people that know exactly how to run a 'proper pub'.The steaks were a great price at £12.50 and £13.50, with fresh cut chips, fantastic battered onions rings and I had a lovely peppercorn sauce.Drinks were so reasonable as well, £3.50 for a pint of Sulis Lager and a Tanqueray Sevilla Gin and Lemonade only £3.00!!I cannot recommend this pub and Steve and Jenny highly enough, if you are in the area, do yourself a favour, avoid all those chain restaurants and get yourself in here!

I was eagerly anticipating a good meal as I’d done my homework and read the reviews. It way exceeded expectations!Firstly a full menu on a Sunday evening (Hi Sara and family- we were sitting opposite you) - it was hard to choose but an 8oz fillet steak for £13.50 is a no-brainer!OH had the 20oz mixed grill for slightly less! The boss was at a loss as to why self-confessed small eaters would order so much food but we eat what we can, in this case way beyond our usual capacity because it was all so delicious!Chips were home cooked and to die for!All meat was of the highest quality and cooked to perfection!I had to try the fruit crumble which was also homemade and melt-in-the-mouth drop dead sumptuous!Wine was incredibly good value, the Boss was very funny, Kieran who was running the bar and taking food orders was a star! When we asked why they didn’t charge more, he explained that it was better to keep it affordable and see more customers.I’m guessing that they have plenty of regulars! Wish we lived closer as this would be our go-to!The complete real deal! Best of British!

Seriously I wasn't sure when we walked in this little pub we thought we would have a drink while we decided where to eat and guess what they served food on a Sunday but not boring Sunday diners the choice was endless and I was abit reserved at first as it was so cheap and I thought to myself what will we be getting, £13.50 for a 8oz Fillet steak? By us it's £24 for a 6oz steak. Anyway just amazing, real chips like your mum use to make and a rare steak just cooked to perfection, we are only staying one night and moving on and wish we were staying longer just a walk over the road. They were very accommodating I asked for a kids scampi and chips as it wasn't on the kids menu so they did it and my hubby had the chicken in the creamy cider sauce ( he's not a creamy sauce guy and a really foodie working as a restaurant manger said it was just lovely) very impressed with this place x

If you have ever walked into a village pub and been stared at and made uncomfortable by the coldness of customers and a seemingly uncaring bar staff or landlord... this is the place to go to change all that in an instant!
