Food was Ok but, roast potatoes was stale old just reheated Apple and pear crumble far too sweet custard lumpy Unless I’m desperate I’ll wouldn’t be back

The folk of Nunhead are so lucky to have this great community pub on their doorstep. A group of us went for lunch and had a great meal served by the very welcoming landlord. The food was excellent, with plenty of choice. We were there on Fish Friday and had a super fish pie, great fish and chips and a really good sea bass. Otherwise the steak and ale pie was also highly praised as was a delicious looking chicken curry. There's a wide variety of beers and lagers, and a good choice of wine too. Excellent coffee as well. The atmosphere was friendly and unpretentious. The booking process was simple, emails were replied to quickly, and adjustments to party details handled well. Fairly priced for the good quality food and overall enjoyable experience.

Come here as I’ve been once before, ordered the steak medium rare with Mash, the steak was amazing I didn’t want it to finish lovely atmosphere, dog friendly which is always a bonus

This lovely neighbourhood pub is very much worth checking out for both its Tuesday night steaks and roasts on a Saturday. Friendly staff who provide table service, they make nothing feel like it’s too much of a problem.

We booked a table, on arrival we were made very welcome and had two dogs. Staff very attentive, my wife has some allergies which they took into account. he did seem be on his own, when my food came it wasn’t as warm as I would’ve liked but the flavour and plateful made up for it as I was hungry. Only downside was the lack of peripheral awareness of some of the customers, particularly mum. Stepping over our Akita with child in arms to plug their mobile phone into wall socket, not asking if it’s okay and excuse me. Our dog never flinched, letting their kids walk up to our dogs not asking is it okay first. It was a Saturday afternoon and England were due to play, they had a screen in the restaurant area and we had eaten by then. Would we go again most definitely, just make sure no major sports on.

Popped in here after hiking in South London and visiting Nunhead Cemetery, and jolly glad we did. The menu offers a lot of vegan options, the portions are generous and the food is tasty. We had the vegan burger and the vegetarian sharing platter, both really good. They also serve a very nice Malbec. Service was excellent, friendly and very gracious.

We had Sunday lunch, vegan and vegetarian. It was gorgeous so fresh, hot and tasty and lovely portions. It was incredibly busy, with a great family atmosphere. Had a delicious dessert of apple crumble and vegan sticky toffee pudding. Highly recommend this place. They obviously have a very good chef and the staff working really hard to cater for this very busy service. They did a fantastic job. Thank you so much. We will definitely be back.

We had a table booked for 8 adults and 5 children on Sunday 4th December. I was extremely disappointed that considering I had provided our Christmas food orders back in October items were missing. Our table was reserved for 1.30pm. Christmas dinners missing pigs in blankets and was subsidised by placing one extra stuffing ball on peoples plates. The timing for each course to come out felt like an hour at time. One family member had to leave without having a dessert because it took so long to arrive and they needed to get back home, some family members even said they only ate the food because they were hungry as it had taken so long to arrive. I've been to this pub on several occasions and after this service which was meant to be a nice family Christmas get together we will no longer be returning. Even though the amount was deducted from the bill for one persons order the overall experience was a disappointment and the food was under cooked. We weren't made to feel welcome and shortly after our family left we were told we need to vacate the table as they had another booking (this wasn't explained to us when we arrived). We probably would've left the pub earlier had the food been provided at a reasonable time and not keeping us waiting for each course. The staff that served us though were very pleasant.

Thank you Douglas and staff for the care and attention you gave us during the wake for my brother, the food and service was exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble and I would highly recommend this venue for any function.

Dropped in on spec after a visit to the cemetery. Really inviting pub with plenty of outside seating for a relaxing lunch. Service was really friendly and helpful and our dog was given a water bowl and a treat! He was happy! The burgers are excellent as was the fish and chips. Local Brixton brewed beer was recommended and also very good. A great location for family and friends to relax and enjoy lovely food.

We recently visited The Waverley Arms following a nearby funeral and had the pleasure of dealing with Douglas. He was super helpful when booking and even more friendly and accommodating when we visited! Ours was a party of 10 and every single one of us came away saying how incredible the food and service was. One of the best steaks I’ve had in a long time! Thanks to Douglas and the team for making our visit a memorable one :)

Visited the Waverley arms with Family and friends following a funeral. Douglas and co were incredibly accommodating and flexible. The service throughout was brilliant and warm, thoroughly recommend.

As we are not local this is not one of our regular places for lunch. However we were nearby today and remembered the Waverley from a visit some time back. Calling in on the off chance without pre-booking we were fortunate to find a table was available. We both had the roast (pork belly), which I have to say was one of the best we have had recently. The puddings looked interesting but we were too full to try them. It’s very much a family friendly pub and there were lots of children there, but none causing any nuisance. Personally we could do without the sports screens (which nobody appeared to be watching) but the sound was off anyway so they were not intrusive. Service was excellent and the staff very friendly - we’ll definitely be back another time.

Hi me and my girlfriend visited the pub for the first time a month ago and was ment to leave a review then but forgot. We have since been 7-8 times and we have not been disappointed every lunch and dinner we have eaten have been fantastic and we are quite fussy in where we eat .but a real treat Sunday roasts are great ,the fish if the day specials .wow. my favourite is the chicken burger the sauce is crazy. Last night we went for a steak and we have to say probley the best steak we have ever had out...a bold statment i know but very true the onion rings are to die for i would go just for a portion of them .lovely

We had a very good meal and a warm welcome from Douglas, as always. The fish of of the day has always been my favourite and I've never been disappointed. The whitebait was tasty and the girls gave thumbs up for the duck. My egg allergic daughter was able to have sticky toffee pudding for the first time as they have a vegan version. She will be back for more! We are so lucky to have this lovely pub on our doorstep.

Great staff, great beer (Brixton Pale). But..... We (5 of us, 3 being "regulars") booked a table for the much praised Sunday roast, and they slotted us in for 5pm. Arrived on the dot , and was told our table wasn't ready - fair enough, these things happen. So we waited outside on a cool and blustery evening for 25 mins until our table was ready. Finally seated, the waitress handed us menus and apologetically informed us that they had run out of Sunday roasts. Beef, pork, chicken - everything. Wait, what?? "But we booked!", "and you let us wait outside for 25 mins, when you could have told us you'd run out". So, I ended up eating an okay plate of fish and chips rather than starve......ho hum. Frankly, I felt like I'd been taken for a bit of a mug. In my "British" way I'm not much given to complaining, but I thought their attitude was pretty bloody cheeky. We'd booked, we patiently waited, and we ended up eating and paying for food we didn't paticularly want. I'm sure the Sunday roast is great, but bad planning, and a cavalier attitude (presumably by management) towards us left a bad taste in my mouth.

First off there isn't anything wrong with the pub. Is just a bit "samee". Same paint scheme that I've seen elsewhere. Same craft beers. Slightly chaotic service. Reasonable prices. Young crowd. Its not a bad pub. Maybe I just went in on a quiet night
