The Watermill in Perth & Kinross

Just fantastic. Met friends. Tea excellent. You get a pot and a pot of hot water. Real tea. Coffees excellent. You must also have a cake etc. We had the home made bramble scones which were out of this world. The wonderful Meg is a star. Staff are wonderful, friendly, and ultra efficient. Hint. Best to book a table here if you want to avoid waiting or disappointment. Yes, it is that popular, especially with locals. That in itself is the recommendation you want. Can't wait to go back.

Delicious lunch. Soup with bread for one of us and a spicy Dahl dish for the other. Lovely atmosphere with being linked to bookshop. Highly recommended

Mooie kaart, maar £8,- voor een stuk taart met niet zo vriendelijke bediening vind ik toch niet kunnen… Taart was overigens heerlijk.

Dropped in for a light lunch. Choice of sandwiches and soups available but quite a limited range. A good range of loose leaf teas sold - choose one of these. Service good and atmosphere good.

Wonderful independent bookshop and cafe - a firm favourite when traveling in the area. We stopped off to and from our visit to the Scottish Crannog centre

Every time we are in Scotland, I love to pass by this coffee shop. It has lovely sandwiches made from local produce and supporting the local bakery and butcher. It is a heartwarming place and offers delicious options and yummy deserts. I also love the fact that it is at the bottom of a bookshop and art gallery. The book shop has a lovely collection of books for all ages and the art gallery usually has an exhibition for a local artist.

What a unique gem ! Not a lot of seating and the service was just ok, but the food with a mostly vegan slant was amazing! Coffees and local sodas were a great addition! Very quaint with super nice staff - very busy even after 1pm

We called here for lunch before walking up The Birks of Aberfeldy. The service is first rate, the staff friendly & helpful, the coffee excellent and the light lunch we ordered was delivered to our table speedily. We ordered pea, rocket and basil soup which was delicious and served with a generous portion of sourdough bread. There was an alternative soup and a daily special meal plus a comprehensive list of sandwiches. The food is prepared to order in the kitchen. The cakes served are made by a local bakery. All together an excellent experience.

Visited for coffee & cake on a rainy morning. Lovely range of teas, friendly service and despite there being a steady stream of customers the staff were not harassing us to move on. Wonderfully light cakes!

Had lunch here which we found by accident. The lunch was very nice with delicious sourdough bread with an array of fillings, also soup or dish of the day to choose from. Was busy but managed to get a table easily. Maybe this was due to being the only place that was open within a wide area. Worth a visit.

We found this quite by accident, a book shop with a coffee shop attached, what a fabulous idea. Had a lovely lunch here and coffee was superb, highly recommend

We were only in Aberfeldy for a few days, but kept being draw back to this wonderful bookshop, getting our holiday reading and being tempted by an amazing range of books 📚 😀 The gallery upstairs was also an unexpected treat.

A limited menu but absolutely delicious soup and sandwiches. Log burner made this cosy cafe even more appealing. A truly talented guitarist played fabulous music. Staff were relaxed and lovely. Could happily have spent the whole glorious autumn day there.

Excellent for lunch. Can get busy so book ahead. The daily soups in particular are excellent - interesting and unusual. Great cakes. All very high standard.

Visited here before and thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. This time you were expected to stand outside on a freezing day with 2children waiting for a table. There were 5 of impossible to miss us standing outside but 3staff totally ignored us till my husband walked...

Recommend this cafe, tasty fresh food lovely coffee and relaxed comfortable seating. Large home maid cakes on offer too. I imagine there will be queues for tables in summer.

Fantastic soups & sandwiches. Portions were very generous and the whole grain bread was wonderful. Great wasp management outside too! That really helps!!

I've eaten here several time in recent weeks, and their sandwiches are excellent and nicely presented with a good handful of lovely salad. The selection of food is small, but all of it good and many local ingredients used.

Visited the Watermill in Aberfeldy earlier this week. Initially it was a little confusing where you should queue for a table as we came up the steps from the car park. We went to the door where there was a sign saying queue here for a table but we also saw two people queuing on the path near the outside tables. After being ignored by a couple of staff we decided we would join the queue outside, by which time other people who came after us had joined the queue! While we were waiting we noticed the sanitising of the tables was very rushed, with no sanitising of the chairs at all. The staff all wore masks and they collected track and trace information. I had the butchers ham and cheese sandwich, which was on the blackboard and my partner had the curry and flatbread which was also a special. I really enjoyed my sandwich although you would have to be hungry to finish it as it was very large, good value though at £6.95 . My partners curry was very bland and was not very “curryish” And they said they wouldn’t order it again (£9.95). The coffee is always good here and on 5his occasion it did not disappoint. We sat in the garden which is a very nice area with a few plants here and there and it is down a quiet side street. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

We were so glad we found this lovely cosy cafe, off the main st. It has a great selection of hot drinks and homemade cakes. So relaxing in the comfy couches with a nice view. Also, pay a visit upstairs to the wee bookshop☺

We had a wonderful experience here on our local holiday where we visited the bookshop and visited the cafe for tea and cake. There was a good selection of cake and what we tasted was superb! Staff were friendly and attentive, and with the eat out to help out scheme the food was excellent value for money. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

After a good browse in the book shop, we had lunch here on two occasions, very tasty and well presented, great atmosphere.

The Watermill was recommended in our cottage literature, wandered around Aberfeldy and came across it - fantastic bookshop and then the tearoom (rather than a restaurant). we had tea, teens had hot chocolate and we had courgette and lime cake - all round excellent and not out of the way pricing for the quality.Due to change management very shortly so keep an eye on how things go, but we enjoyed it and would recommend.

A very cozy café with beautiful cakes and coffees. The smell of fresh ground coffee and new books from the above bookstore is just brilliant. My second and definitely not last visit.

Fine foods, fine books, what a combination. And set in a building of character and style. Parking may be difficult but it is worth the effort.

We had a lovely lunch after a wander round the bookshop upstairs. Soup and bread was delicious, followed by coffee and cake. All in all very good value. It's a busy place so be prepared to wait for a table, especially if you have a larger party.

Busy when we went in, waited for and got a table. Checked the menu and waited...and waited....and waited. Those serving would rather chat to other customers and do some ' avoiding ' rather than serve (meant to be table service). People in after us got served. Eventually left, will not go back.

Pleasant restaurant, helpful staff. We had baguette sandwiches which were very tasty and nicely presented but smaller than expected. Really good cup of coffee. Generally good but overpriced in my opinion

The Watermill is not hard to find in Aberfeldy. Parking nearby is not a real difficulty. A very well stocked bookshop with many local and Scots publications. The downstairs cafe is fine.

Our ‘go to’ when in Aberfeldy, doesn’t fail to impress. Great service excellent tea/coffee and extensive choice of good food. One of the few places to make a good latte with Oat milk! Always good value for money. Seating inside & outside are both comfy & peaceful.

Great find! Friendly staff and fantastic cakes, can definitely recommend the ginger cake with lemon icing and chocolate cake.

Recently visited this lovely cafe & shop. Great outside space, especially on a sunny day. Plenty of delicious cakes etc to choose from. Bookshop and homeware shop were well worth browse around.

We stopped here for lunch in the middle of our kenmore and Aberfeldy hill circuit walk. Lovely soups and great selection of vegan, gluten free etc food and cakes.

They have a nice collection of books and the building has its own story. And the bookshop is within the worlds top 75 bookshops. It is nice to be there.

Located on a back street in Aberfeldy. You can sit on the terrace which is elevated and watch the stream. Dogs are allowed here but not inside. Interesting tourist shop at ground level. Not easy to park. Water wheel doesn’t work.

Came here four times last week and loved it. The food was great, the tea perfect (hot water came as standard, always a good sign!), the soup was great both times, the book shop was great, all in all fantastic..

This is a fine place, with a great mixture of facilities - one of the 75th best bookshops in the world, historic watermill and a very fine cafe too!

Stopped in here while visiting the area. The inside seating area was full so I had to sit in the garden area. It was a nice, calm day so this was not a problem. I tried the courgette and lime cake with a Cortado. Both very nice indeed. Staff very courteous. I will return if and when I'm back in the area.

I went here not long ago but there was nothing i could eat on the menu, so we asked a waiter over to talk to them. They were at the best unhelpful and a bit rude. The choice of food is dismally small and the place was very loud and a bit dirty.

Great coffee shop. We only had coffee but were able to sit outside in the sun, (blankets provided although were not needed). Love the decor inside, as someone has already mentioned it's pretty quirky. However not in a thrown together type of way. Furnishings are gorgeous. Could happily sit there all day. Their menu is limited but they had 3 homemade soups on the go and looks as if the kitchen cared about their offering.

What a great place for a coffee or lunch, and afterwards you can browse through the bookshop. It was a cold day when we were there and the cosy fire was very welcoming. Tasty food and variety. It was very busy when we were there, difficult to get seated but worth waiting.

A definite must visit for a snack, lunch or just a tea/coffee. Located below the Watermill Book Shop and has access through the bookshop or via rear entrance from car park. Very welcoming, cosy and relaxed environment.

Aberfeldy is a lovely wee town, untainted by multi national chains in shops and restaurants. The Watermill is an outstanding book shop with a delightful restaurant.

The Watermill is a great asset to Aberfeldy the cafe is friendly serves great food and is a wonderful place to look through the books that you have bought in the largest independent book shop in Scotland a large selection of books and art materials.

I can really recommend The Watermill which is the cafe next to the best the best independent bookshop in the UK. The staff were really friendly and helpful, the pot of tea generous and the cake delicious. This is a really nice place to sit and relax after looking at all the lovely books. I would definitely visit this place again.

We have only ever had coffee here but they do do lunch too. The coffee is of a good standard and there is a good selection of cakes and tray bakes. There was only one gf option which was a cake. There are papers to peruse too and, if you’re lucky, you can get a sofa in front of the log-burning stove. Once you have finished in the coffee shop, there are the delights of the book shop above to explore. We will be back again on our next visit to Aberfeldy.

We ate soup and a sandwich. They were both brilliant. Been here a few times during various short breaks and it never disappoints. Highly recommended.

Good food, friendly staff but didn't seem very organised and despite about four serving staff it took ages to serve us and the surrounding tables - yes, it was busy but shouldn't have taken so long. Fortunately the food was good but they nearly lost custom as a couple of tables were on the verge of walking out.....

Asked a local where we could get a coffee... and were directed to the water mill. We'd actually walked past and not seen it....

We visited the Watermill on a Sunday in October. The town was not too busy and we managed to get a table immediately. The menu is very limited but our soup selections were excellent and our coffees similarly passed the excellence test. after ordering we had to wait some time for our soups but they were worth waiting for. Prices were average for a facility like this. The jewel in the crown is however the bookshop. A day could easily have been spent there. On a trip to Aberfeldy the Watermill is a must.

Fabulous bookshop with good cafe. The tea and cakes were delicious, the service was friendly, the chairs comfortable. The book range is very good. A lovely cosy place.
