Disappointing. I wouldn't have thought it was the same place as described in the reviews. A bit shabby, sticky tables etc

We came here about 4wks ago on a previous holiday when it was pretty quiet. This time it was a good job we booked a table as it was buzzing,we both had fish and chips with mushy peas. It was served to us quite quickly, the fish was beautiful but the chips were rather well done. Looking around a few people were expressing the same thing about the chips. It doesn't put me off coming again, this is why I gave them 4stars .Till the next time, Paul & Karen not forgetting DeeDee our black lab x

This is what you call a proper pub with real ale. Not like the plastic ones now with no atmosphere. We called in while on holiday in our caravan, we received a very warm welcome and our black lab DeeDee was also welcomed. I ordered a pint of hand pumped beer my wife had a presseco,we ordered our meals which came out fairly quickly and lovely and hot, also very plentiful. How we got threw the food all I can say, is have a good appetite. This pub is full of history being called The Waterloo it was where the recruitment was to join up for the famous Battle and is 300 yrs old . Make sure too pay it a visit. Thanks once again,Paul and Karen Graves.

Very friendly people and typical country pub atmosphere but the dinner was most disappointing. I had steak & ale pie. The crust was old and hard, probably overcooked and stood for a while, the sauce was very artificial, the chips just acceptable and the vegetables a strange mixture. My friends were not too impressed with their choices either. The lunch was slightly better when we all had mushroom soup, which was OK, but the bread rolls were cheap, soggy, warmed up.

We have visited the Waterloo many times with walking group and once the service was fast and efficient. We sent an email the night before with our order and within minutes it arrived at our reserved table. This makes our life as walk leaders very much easier and our clients really enjoyed their time with you. Thanks again.

Great little pub, could do with a good deep clean and a re paint but it is what it is. Nice little fire in the grate which is welcoming. Toilets are bloody freezing however, you don’t exactly need to spend ages in there . Campsites in a great place and reasonably priced. Some great walks from the back of the campsite. Can seem a little ‘clicky’ with locals but again they are the bread and butter , we are the visitors after all Staff are friendly and very welcoming. We will be back

The pub ambience is great and the drinks and the staff lovely. However, the food was diabolical. I can honestly say I have never had such an awful meal. I ordered the home made steak pie. The meat was inedible and the pastry pale and soggy. The chips were burnt. The veg was ok. We didn’t say anything as the staff were so nice. It’s such a shame as we have stayed at the campsite in previous years and had lovely meals.

We were staying in Rose Cottage just a few mins walk away from the pub. Yes it could probably do with a bit of a re-vamp but, it was a great old fashioned country pub. Staying locally so booked at Waterloo Inn for Sunday Lunch. No choice of meats, received 2 slices of beef which were too tough to cut, 2 really small probably frozen roast potatoes, 2 definitely frozen Yorkshire pudding as had freezer burn making them too hard to eat, a small amount of mashed potato and a generous portion peas with just a couple of strands of cabbage mixed in, (not the fresh veg we had anticipated), all smothered in an abundance of black gravy substance that had no indication it was home made. Then when we made payment the price had increased by £2 per person from the advertised price, which we questioned and were told ‘we are having problems with the website and unable to advertise the current price of the roasts’. Worse meal we have ever had the misfortune to be served or overcharged for.

We thought we would give this pub/ campsite a try as we wanted to cycle the tissington trail - we booked onto the campsite at the back for £25 a night. We have a VW T6 Camper-van. Positives: The pub is set in a lovely village has a cozy fire up the chimney and serves great food - the chips were amazing!! The campsite pitches are spacious and it was quiet at night. Negatives: the shower facilities were in need of renovation - they were clean but not heated and nowhere to change in privacy- the shower itself was hot but the little block was FREEZING. For £25 a night we expected better to be honest - the washing up facility was the same unfortunately- looked like it needs a refurb. This is why we can only give 3 stars. A great tip for the pub would be if your touring customers are paying £25 a night then maybe offer them a discount off their food bill if they eat with you…. Most other pubs with campsites do this. We did enjoy our time here but because of the primitive shower facilities would not come back for camping.

To be fair we only stopped for a lunch time drink whilst on a walk along the Tissington Trail (for which it is extremely conveniently located) and it wasn’t the best of weather, but we were the only people there for almost an hour. It felt like a very traditional and simple pub with a nice fire, but the decor was very dated. The photos of the pub make it look very lively but even the exterior seemed dull and uninviting. Nor did the food hygiene rating of 3 out of 5 inspire us to have any food! Sorry folks but this isn’t a place we’ll rush to come back to.

Old fashioned English pub with a warm welcome. The decor is rather dated, to say the least, but it is homely and comfortable which I will take over modernised every day. They have free WiFi and contactless payments so they modernise where necessary. There are amusing signs all over the pub which I will post if we can add a picture. My wife and I visited with our dog for an evening meal on a wet November evening. Although we arrived 10 minutes after they stop serving dinner (7.30pm) they kindly accommodated us. One great portion of haddock and chips and a wholesome bangers & mash later, we were full! Good beer as well. Highly recommended.

Whilst I cannot fault the quality of the food, the lack of toilet facilities causes me a major problem. Previously when we have visited here we were able to use the toilets belonging to the pub next door. Having mobility problems and on medication , I politely asked if it would be possible to use the staff WC. This was refused and I was told to use the public toilets which were a considerable distance away. It took me a very painful 25 minute walk to go there and back.I am 85 years old, leaning heavily on a walking stick . I feel very disappointed as i have visited this fish shop many times in the past.

Really lovely food, you wouldn't know it from the outside/inside - it's like any other pub but the food was really good. Had the best dessert - rice pudding with apple and nuts - to die for.

We went for Sunday lunch and it was probably the best I've had, the meat melted in your mouth and the veg was brilliant with meaty gravy

Arrived around 10:45 am on 10/11/24 only to be informed that there was no hot food being served until 11:15 due to a take away order. Others in front of us left and we reluctantly ordered two coffees, a flapjack and a Pork Pie instead of the full cooked breakfasts we’d hoped for. We were charged twice for the Pork Pie, which we pointed out and were subsequently refunded for. We sat at a table that had the previous occupants breakfast plate on it (which was never cleared, considering the waiting on staff weren’t serving any food at the time) and waited for our coffee which did not arrive. We fetched it ourselves from the counter, at which point around 11:05, they started taking breakfast orders again. The place seemed poorly managed and why you’d turn away valued customers for a take away order is beyond me.
