The Waterfront Harwich in Tendring

Long time customer of this place. Always a good experience, never disappointed. Staff great, food really good & such a nice atmosphere.

We went yesterday for dinner. The food was really good. The service though. We were polite and certainly not demanding. Having to ask for cutlery is disappointing. Having the desert menu thrown at you on the table, only to be asked “what to you want”? Is unacceptable. This was not the attitude of all the servers. We were disappointed

Attended a large event so with mass catering was not expecting perfect food BUT, it was absolutely great! Delicious soup and roll, roast chicken and crumble, all served piping hot. In addition the staff were brilliant. Nothing too much trouble. Well done to the team!

Having decided on this restaurant as it was stated dog friendly on the website rang and booked a table here and the colleague confirmed on the phone that it was dog friendly. On the day of arrival at the cafe we were told that dogs are only allowed outside and they said that they had no booking for us even though we had booked. The service was not brilliant as the waitress did not know about anything on the menu and had to keep going away to ask. At this time of year no one would sit outside to eat and I think that dogs are only allowed to sit outside should have been said on the phone when booking. Would think twice before going back.

Been again it was a good time and food was great

To be honest, we went to The Waterfront for convenience' sake, as we were staying right next door to the restaurant. We booked a table, but when we arrived the restaurant was almost empty, and not many more guests came after that either. That was a bit off-putting, especially as the staff seemed almost taken aback to see us, but it turned out to be a very good choice. The furnishings and decor are very pleasant, quite elegant, with lovely big mirrors and pictures in ornate frames on the walls, and comfy chairs. What we liked was that the tables weren't crammed in so close together as in many restaurants, so even if it was busy, it wouldn't feel too crowded. There are at least two separate seating areas. As for the food, I had the most delicious beef lasagne, which was billed as 'home-made' (they also do a vegetarian one), and which was served with a decent amount of mixed salad and some garlic bread. My husband had a vegetarian risotto, which he enjoyed very much, too. Above all, the food was served hot, something I find is not always the case in restaurants, and I hate being served lukewarm food, as I feel I have to gulp it down before it goes completely cold. The wines we selected were also very good, one Italian red and another white wine which I've forgotten the name of. The lady who served us was very friendly, and the prices for our meals and drinks were totally acceptable for the quality. Sitting outside would have been lovely, as the restaurant is very close to the sea front, but on a September evening it was just a tad too cool for that, despite the weather having been lovely during the day. We couldn't fault anything, and if we had been staying in Harwich for longer we would definitely have gone back to this restaurant.

Super place for hour or two relaxation with drink/snack. Food good. Excellent cheerful staff. Plenty of car parking space. Views over sea front.

We stoppen here for dinner before taking the ferry to the Netherlands. Great meal, attentive staff. If we take the ferry again, we we will be back.

Always a great venue to walk to on a sunny day and have a few drinks sat outside.

Stopped here for a bit to eat before boarding the Stena. Had a very good meal, served by terrific staff. Highly recommended if you're early.

We were turned away at a local chain restaurant attached to a well known hotel who promise a good night's sleep, and we then found this place on Google. What a lovely evenings meal, very reasonably priced, excellent quality.

Had a lovely meal with friends! The fish of the day, haddock, was perfectly prepared, whether grilled or battered. Very attentive and friendly service and the interior as well as the outside seating area (with sea view!) was spacious and cared for.

A Essex coast wedding reception venue and party hire venue, that over looks the see and is big enough to hold the biggest party.

Lovely food. Service was a bit slow at times but always friendly and the food was amazing - one we'll be returning to.

Lovely pub-style lasagne and fish and chips- everyone cleared their plates including the kids. Even though they had a large wedding party in, they still made us feel welcome and the food came pretty quick. Amazing!

Had gluten free battered fish and chips. It was a real treat with no worries overnight. Coeliacs will understand that. Will return

Tasty lasagne, nice atmosphere, pleasant service. Ideally located for a nice meal before you get on the ferry, especially if you are towing. Recommended.

We didn’t book just turned up! Three adults four small children. Staff was kind and attentive. Food was outstanding! I eat out a lot and it was the best meal I’d had in ages. Kids meals were lovely size good price and kids loved them. Dessert was delicious. Not many restaurants welcome small children but these did.

Popped in for a coffee but came away feeling why did we bother.

I love this place for Sunday lunch but roast is lovely and always nice choice of meat, this time however the vegetables were so disappointing. Way too many carrots and one tiny piece of broccoli each, not much cauliflower either, please step up the veggies they are such an important part of the experience

Phoned on the off chance to book a table and they had one. Had a lovely meal as normal.

WOW! The waterfront did not disappoint that’s for sure! Such a stunning venue & the new wedding coordinator Kayla was incredible! We were their first full wedding (ceremony & reception) and it was as smooth as anything! Charlie was always there as soon as we needed anything and the bar staff were lovely too! We had a fish & chip supper for our wedding breakfast and the food was complimented by everyone. Everyone had full bellies after!

This was a first visit following seeing pictures on Facebook. A nice venue clean and good welcoming service just sadly the quality of the food let it down. Instead of frozen chips, cheap sausages and burgers it would have been so much better to have quality butchers burgers, sausages and hand cut chips. The food was cooked and presented well but I buy better quality myself than I ate here.

Just visited for coffee hence no further comment other than we enjoyed the visit.

Booked table in advance made very welcome on arrival. Good menu but at 6pm on a Saturday only had 2 sirloin steaks left on a Saturday very strange as we booked early. Would have thought would have been more geared up for a Saturday night. However the food was good and atmosphere pleasant

Stopped here for Lunch. A great summer spot to look out at the bay and enjoy a beer and good food. Staff all great and helpful.

Good home cooked style food with pleasant service and ample parking

Our anniversary day, so we thought we would try somewhere new. Nice and easy to park in the half empty car park, large airy restaurant area. I ordered a steak, and my wife ordered a pork roast. My steak was thin, small and totally tasteless. But the peas were nice. My wife's pork was also totally tasteless. When the waitress collected our plates we told her our concerns about the bland meals, she made no comment and left, leaving pudding menus, after an eternity a different waitress arrived and took our pudding order. The puds were nice but did not make up for the totally unexciting main meal.

Venue location is great, size is great and has a wonderful team of staff working there

This place wasn't easy to find as the signs by the entrance are small, and there is nothing on the building to identify it. There was plenty of outside seating/tables. The main menu wasn't as inspiring as the desert one. We choose the daily fish of the day, which was Plaice. The service was OK. Unfortunately, they were out of oat milk, so I couldn't have an Oat Latte.

Attended a 100th birthday party in place very welcoming.

I wanted to share the seafront with friends from Rochford and Mayland, we had a very relaxing and good meal

Booked a last minute table for Valentine's day dinner with my husband. The whole experience was like a dream come true, we definitely weren't expecting a candle light dinner on a special day. There was candle and rose on table, a special Valentine's Day menu, a subtle lighting to lit the mood up and faint of music... The service from the staff was just extraordinary. Every penny spent on that dinner was worth of the experience itself. My husband enjoyed his expensive steak while I had a chicken breast stuffed with crab meat (never knew this combination existed). Overall, it was one of our best Valentine's Day and all thanks to The Waterfront Harwich...

On an afternoon where the rain was chucking it down we discovered this place which was warm, dry and comfortable. The staff were welcoming and friendly and the food was good. On a better day you looked out to sea across a green area and there is plenty of car parking space. ONLY downside is that we struggled to find this place because it has NO signage outside and it doesn't give the appearance of being a restaurant at all ! That really needs addressing.

Midweek it was a very quiet evening but everything enjoyable as usual x

We all had the roast beef which was amazing especially the roast potato’s! Very reasonable priced too. Just a shame about one of the staff members - an older lady who came across as very standoffish and made us feel that any request were just an inconvenience.

Great evening, great food ,very relaxed atmosphere and all the staff where absolutely lovely especially the lady with glasses who could not do enough for us .

What a disgrace. We booked a table of 15 people for a birthday meal. The young waitress was absolutely lovely and attentive, the two older ladies working with glasses were absolutely disgusting to that poor girl constantly in front of everyone. They even moaned as we changed 3 of our desserts as we were not told the the flavouring until we arrived. They proceeded to Moan about our table at the bar which was 4ft from us because they then needed to adjust the bill. They both picked and picked at that poor girl and spoke to her like absolute dirt. If that was my daughter I would be so mad! The place was empty apart from one other table. We could hear everything! No wonder it’s empty when the two ladies are acting like bullies towards to staff! We will never return and hope that young girl gets a job where she is appreciated!!

Just a great place to go for a meal with family and friends

First time visiting The water front , won't be the last. Beautiful building , stylish and modern restaurant and bar , impeccably clean . Friendly welcoming staff on arrival . Affordable and varied menu . 4 main courses ordered , service was prompt , food was delicious . 2 puddings ordered , both lovely , enjoyed lots of drinks in a relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommend 👌

We had a good meal! Affordable and fresh. The cod was in a tasty andd crispy batter. The squash pie was marvelous and the sides on the plate were good and fresh. Large cod too, could not even finish the last bit. Recommended!

I feel sorry for some of the younger servers who have to work with such rude and arrogant bar tenders who fell they own the place their manner is demeaning

Just went for a coffee, ended up with a nice seat and pleasant view but the coffee was lacking in.........coffee. A flat white, possibly a rather weak single shot in a large cup 🫤.

Went today for a family lunch, the place is great, the service fantastic and, the food superb. Will be going back

Absolutely fantastic place, went to a wedding here yesterday and every sit down wedding we have been to the food is normally always cold, the three course meal served here was served hot and absolutely tasty food, gorgeous settings and couldn't fault the staff, highly recommend if you looking to get married here 😀

So here I just have to rate against!!! We were there on Tuesday and it was just great 👍🏻 Got a table at short notice and really nice staff there. I had the catch of the day and it was very tasty and didn't just taste like a deep fryer. The portions were sufficient and everyone was full and satisfied. And you also have a view of the sea. You can also sit outside if the weather permits.

A lovely friendly atmosphere and great tasting food

Our first time here celebrating a lunch out for my husband’s 50th. The staff are lovely and can’t do enough for you. The menu is small but has a great choice including the kids menu. Food is freshly cooked and the portions are plentiful. The food is delicious. Toilets are spotless. All in all a lovely lunch and something we will definitely return to. Thanks

We were there on a Tuesday at 4:05 p.m., but there was nothing left to eat, even though according to Google Maps it was supposed to be open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. There is no mention on Google Maps that there is no food from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. You can't get that wrong!

Lovely venue Pleasant staff Good Food well worth a visit in fact it's so good when my Hungarian relatives come here it is the only place we go

Based on the reviews, we visited this restaurant before we went on the boat. The staff is very friendly, but if you sit on the terrace, you have to go inside to order your food and then pay immediately. The fish and hamburger we ordered were very dry. The location is very nice on the water.

Check on the internet states serving food till 3.00 call in at 2.00 food board states 3.00 but no!! Stop serving a 2.00 because they had been busy and chef decided to stop serving ? Don’t think I’ll bother again !!!

We have visited every year since it was first built and always been pleased. Today was dreadful. The lady behind bar was miserable,we ordered a meal and paid before it came. Very disappointed. Steak pie and chips ! Well, the steak pie was minced beef served with a handful of uncooked chips. Has this place been taken over? It's never been so uninviting. Try and give it a miss

Visiting from Australia and was surprised that the fish +chips were not good. Catch of the day was not fresh and the I left the batter as it was soggy. Oven ready chips ugh!

Lovely lunch at the Waterfront today. Food was good as was the service. Definitely will be visiting again.

Unfortunately it was a let down for us. Got attracted by good reviews while visiting the area for a couple of days and we're hunting for good quality healthy food. Veg lasagna was swimming in cheese, grilled catch of the day was coated in something with fish itself having quite mediocre flavour. The soup was good though. Service was quick and polite portions vs prices were sensible. If food tasted a bit better it would be a winner.

Nice restaurant, but the atmosphere is not what you expect of a waterfront restaurant. A few tables set very far apart, like in the covid days. And no cosiness. It is too far from the shore to be a beach restaurant, still it is strange that dogs are not allowed. Typically a restaurant that needs a bit extra entrepreneurship

Excellent Sunday Roast beef lunch. Some time since our last visit, had forgotten how nice and efficient the staff are.

This was by far the best food I've had in a long time. Everything was fresh, hot, well presented. Three of us had chicken cordon blue. It was fantastic. Two had fish and chips. We all had pudding and they were all great. Highly recommend this place. It needs a great big sign outside as it's not obvious it's there. Our waitress was Allison and she was great.

Good menu comfortable seating helpful staff

Two visits in as many weeks and already booked for the end of the month. Looking at some of the less positive reviews on here I actually wondered whether we had visited the same place. The meals we have had were tasty and reasonably priced. I would regard service speed as sedate. I've eaten at enough places where they whip the empty plate and replace with next course as soon as you put your cutlery down so it's nice to see a bit of time taken. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The only thing missing is a bar area for pre-dinner drinks but come the warmer weather I can see us enjoying a few drinks on the patio before dinner.

I hadn’t been here for many years, so my friend and I went in for lunch. It was very warm and welcoming, lovely, friendly staff and excellent with my allergies. Food and service good

Lacking armosphere, minimal healthy, vegetarian or vegan options, nothing imaginative. Tomato soup always boring, but warm bread seedy roll was lovely. Deserts all hyper sugar overload, nothing vaguely healthy virtually no fruit, apple pie off menu, mostly standard pub brownie, treacle pudding. Eton mess, chosen by one of our group was mostly left uneaten even though she has a sweet tooth, she commented "it's just like eating sugar", swamped in something syrupy. Only creme brulee was good

We visited The Waterfront today for Sunday lunch for my birthday and we were so glad we did. Couldn't fault the service or the food at all. My husband had the roast beef, I had the special board sirloin steak and our girls had childrens sausage and chips. Nothing was too much trouble and they swapped out my youngest beans for cucumber and tomato. Deserts were also delicious and they sourced a vegan ice cream for our dairy intolerant daughter so we could all have desert! (We spoke to Charlie beforehand to ensure that they catered for dairy intolerance) Would highly recommend.

Staff friendly and efficient. Vegetables were frozen and undercooked, meat perfect.
