Excellent food cooked to order.

A perfect seaside lunch! The lightly battered fish was crispy and fresh, generous portions. Everything was cooked to order (15 minutes wait), making it a delicious meal to enjoy by the sea.

Best Fish & Chips in Harwich area. Quality fish, quality chips cooked in beef dripping always freshly cooked and served with a smile. Dovercourt seafront. Can't go wrong. Good sized portions too.

We had a little wait, i think because they cook to order. Fish and chips worth the wait, absolutely divine, nice size cod cooked to perfection tasty crisp batter chips gorgeous. Kids sausage and chips £3 great value. I recommend and will return.

Absolutely the best fish and chips around. I tend to go not long after opening and I don't mind waiting while the cook it all to order. Decent portion size and price as well. Staff are always really friendly. I have tried Henleys (not sure how they win stuff with soggy chips) and Jonny Mac's but Mr Chips are definitely the best.

Brilliant fish and chips place, would reccomend if it’s a large order ordering on the phone and they will give you a time to come in and get it. So efficient service and nice people, quality of the food is brilliant and the price is great

Amazing food, and the best curry sauce I've ever had!

Be afraid, be very afraid. If you are a vegetarian wanting a portion of chips or a pescatarian who eats fish but otherwise adheres to a vegetarian diet this chippy cooks everything in beef dripping.

I live in Harwich for many years and always enjoyed my food from here. Please take no notice of the retard that has given it 1 Star. Idiots like this cause unjustified damage to a small business trying it’s best and always delivers high quality food.

Skinless, boneless Haddock. Lovely batter and beautiful chips. Thoroughly recommended and a park opposite to eat them on. Can ask for any more really.

Well cooked cod with huge portion of chips

We have had a take away from here twice now and the fish was fresh and freshly cooked as were the chips. Recommended!

Unfortunately although friendly, these were greasy and on hindsight a lack of good reviews probably showed that they weren't the best in the area.

Best chips on the Harwich peninsula! Friendly lady serving, good opening times. Would be fab to have tables & chairs to eat outside, but the park or beach is just great opposite! So happy we tried here, enjoy everyone!

All the food tastes of the same oil it was cooked in … big portion sizes and clean and tidy but not for me ..

We asked for gluten-free and they made very good batter-free fish and a huge mound of super chips.

Very nicely cooked fish and chips. Only go if you're very hungry. All the portions are BIG !

There are pluses and minuses here. Everything freshly cooked (a bit of a wait, but that's understandable), everything pipping hot, parking nearby is easy and cards accepted. The portions are massive and reasonable priced. Now for the downsides. The chips were really greasy as was the battered sausage. Its OK, but not great. Not a fan.

We bought fish chips, pies and curry sauce from Mr Chips today and was greeted with a friendly face. All food is cooked to order so had a 10 minute wait, but it was well worth the wait. The medium chips could feed an army so i would suggest 1 between 2 and not 4 as we did today and couldn't get through them. Fish was lovely and hot and overall a 10 out of 10. Not local but would definitely recommend.

Superb food and plenty of it at a great price. Friendly staff that cook fresh while you wait. This is a take away service only. Highly recommend Mr Chips as Harwich No1 fish and chip shop.

Best fish and chips in the area (my personal view). Although a long wait for food, as cooked to order, it's well worth it. Piping hot food, fresh and delicious. Very cheap too.

Qualiy of our food ans portion sizes were excellent. I would agree with other reviewers who say it's probably best to phone first and then collect, as it's clearly popular with good reason :)

In terms of size and value, they are wonderful and deserves a mention. When it comes to taste and authenticity of real fish & chips, it didn't go well on me.. Their batter is of the tempura style; which is super light and crispy. The problem with using this tempura style batter is the deeper parts of the fish and crevices is uncooked. Taste awful and sogs oil like a supertanker. This style batter also means no salt, no malt, and no beer. The classic fish fusion with Chinese style fusion doesn't sit well with me. Prefer the quintessential beer batter British style fish & chips

Having asked some locals for a recommendation, I greatly enjoyed my 'medium' cod and 'small' chips. Both were very generous portions, and very tasty. My serving was freshly cooked whilst I waited outside, chatting to another customer. I shall be very happy to return to this chippy!

Went in today as was visiting the area about 1 pm so early when I walked in first impression was very old looking shop and didn't look great I did walk out but as I couldn't see much open in the area I gave it a go I wish I didn't terrible taste to the chips I got a very very small portion and I've never seen such a small sausage in batter in my life terrible I don't no how this place is open

First Fish n Chips for months due to covid, & wow was worth the wait, my friend & I had a brisk walk along sea wall & on way back found Mr chips was open (lunchtime) such lovely food & service they was so happy to serve us & cooked the food fresh for us & we didn’t mind the wait while it was cooking Well done Mr chip shop, look forward to having more fish n chips from you Thank you

Worst meal ever can't believe still in business

First time using this place for takeaway fish and chips. Lovely, freshly cooked, generous portions. Quite expensive but worth it. Will be returning.

Asked for cod, quater breast of chicken and chicken nuggets. Absolutely disgusting everything was over cooked quater breast of chicken came from a sparrow, cod was like rubber please avoid will not be going back.

Brought some chips for my son in hope I could steal a few. My son said they smelled strange and when I stole one I thought it tasted meaty, so that's the smell. Meaty, beef smell. I'm guessing they were cooked in beef dropping which was upsetting as I don't eat meat. Felt sick the rest of the day. Be careful if you're veggie or vegan.

We bought fish and chips here and took them to eat them in the Salvation Army premises opposite, during the Shanty Festival. It was quite a long wait. The chips were nice. The fish was quite small and a bit too overcooked. Friendly staff.

Very disappointing today. We don’t go there all that often, just when we visit every few months or so and it’s always been good in the past but tonight it was not. The chips were dry, hard and chewy and looked like they’d been cooked a few times. Didn’t taste good at all and even the kids didn’t want to eat them. We could tell as soon as we opened the bag,so how they didn’t notice when they were dishing them up to us I don’t know. Maybe new management as it’s always been okay in the past. In fact the fish in the past has always been good but if they can’t get the chips right we won’t be back.

sorry to say this wasn't a great experience chips were running in grease taste wasn't good all I can say is the pies were ok but you can't really muck up a pie

Should have walked away then and there with the awful smell which was wafting from the shop, of what I can only assume was the cooking fat/oil that they use, but silly me went ahead and gave it a try and I'm afraid the fish & chips tasted as bad as the smell, never been back and much nicer places to get your fish and chips from in the area.

a great bit of Cod can be had here! the curry sauce comes in a big tub and certainly very good value for dipping your chips into, service can be a little slow so I recommend ringing up and be there before they open up as a que can sometimes form.

Been here a few times. Good portions, though the odd occassion not been as nice, guess it depends on time of day or season. Portions and prices are very reasonable, and pretty much the only chippy close to the beach which is brilliant, and much better than going to a cafe as you can cross the road and sit on benches or beach.

Whilst staying in Harwich for the weekend we wanted to have fish and chips by the sea. We found Mr.Chips and had our cod and chips wrapped up and went and sat in our car next to the beach eating out of the paper, so romantic ! The chips were the best I have tasted in a long time, crispy and freshly fried. Delicious !

I used to go to preseason in Harwich for my chips as it was always best chip shop in the area but after a few very disappointing dried up nearly cold portions of fish and chips from there I now use mr chips.

Decent fish and chips but not the cheapest in town you can get as good or better for less just a short drive away.

the best for miles.go there most afternoons, when we have walked our dog along the prom.and you can telephone your order so you don't have a long wait very popular fish and chip shop.

Normalmente vamos a otro establecimiento en la parte antigua de Harwich para el pescado y patatas fritas y ahora sabemos que en el futuro es donde siempre vamos allí. Nuestras patatas fritas y pescado desde el viernes pasado eran patatas fritas Sr. seco y muy apetecible, no tiene sabor. Muy decepcionante.

Me chips en mi opinión es el mejor fish and chips en Dovercourt. Siempre me pides una gran orden para mi familia cuando estamos en nuestra caravana. Llamamos a realizar el pedido y recoger en 10 minutos todo es fresco. La gran cod es lo suficientemente grande para dos para compartir y un chips grandes que es grande! También tenemos savaloy, salchichas en pasta, salsa de curry y huevas de bacalao y todas son buenas. Sin duda recomendaría
