Took a rive down thought it was a nice night for the newly hour drive down. Cue system was good had food in around 10 minutes. Chips were nice but sauce and salt was very limited that they had put on the food. Unfortunately the macoroni cheese was not nice. It dont not resemble any macoroni cheese have had before. There was no sauce to it pasta shell's almost dry. No cheese threw it or over the top. There was also a strange taste to the dish. The dish definitely did not taste anything like cheese. I would not order this again.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

I'm an old customer of this previously excellent chip shop over many years although not too regular these days because of the expense, and I've reviewed it glowingly before. However - this afternoon I was in Anstruther for the first time in ages and decided to treat myself to a round of fish and chips. Costing £9.80. Nearly a ten-spot note for one fish supper. We live in an upside down world these days, when ordinary common white fish is priced as it is. My parents had only a modest income back in the 1950s/60s, so everything was budgeted, So we ate fish. Lots of fish. Because fish back then was much less expensive than the usual red meats. Now it's the other way round, pretty much. Can't afford fish? Buy some stewing steak instead. So when I buy a fish supper for nearly ten quid from a shop with no queueing customers - so staff can give full attention to my silly wee order, I don't expect to get fish that's overcooked and on the overdried side AND lacking in flavour too. Chips also on the overcooked side, but less so than my fish. I'm a useful cook myself and a lifetime fisherman so I learned the do's and donts of GOOD fish cookery a few decades back. Ive shelf of fish cookery books so I know something about this stuff, short of having cooked professionally, which I haven't done. There are two very simple rules when cooking fish. 1. It must be as fresh as possible and 2. It must NEVER be overcooked. I had two skinny wee fillets today instead of the large sized usual singe fillet. Such small THIN fillets need a markedly reduced cook time because they're so thin. Yet ten minutes was my time advised to arrive. Same as always. I know what this place is capable of, but since the faces behind the counter were both new to me I wondered if the business was "under new management" as they say. They weren't under the slightest pressure as the lunch hour was long over. I phoned in my order and entered at the time advised. No excuse. From this extended moan you'll have gathered that today I ended up wishing that I'd tried one of the other three shops on Anstruther sea front. I usually stay away from the big one at the Museum end of the harbour although it's got plenty of rep. Plus - it's commonly queued out the door and is has always been the dearest of the three. When I've been there quite a few years ago, it's produced quality results that I wouldn't criticise - except that it's pretty expensive. Next time it'll be the Wee Chippie at the west end. Haven't been there for a very long time but it's looking to be time for a change. Pensions seem to buy less food every month these days, so this modest outing is the only occasional outing treat I get that I didn't have to do at home. So it's proportionately worse for me to get an unsatisfactory result.

Instead of going to the famous chippy, a local recommended this one instead. No queues, the fish and the chips were cooked specially for our order and even me -who is not a big fan of fish and (chunky) chips - enjoyed our lunch. Crunchy batter, flaky and thick haddock and hot crispy chips. Flawless.

Cards on the table, been going to The Anstruther Fish Bar for years, but heard recently it has gone down hill, so decided to try here. Well, I have to say I'm so glad I did. Excellent friendly staff, decent value, large portions, and most importantly an excellent fish supper, the best I've had in years. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed

Went here as the Anstruther fish bar was closed. The fish and chips were OK. The batter was nice and crispy and the fish tasted fresh. The batter was a bit oily though but not too bad. The chips were standard chippy chips - soft, pale and stodgy and not as good as the ones we usually get at the Anstruther fish bar. It was all OK though and we were satisfied with the food. Asking for a tip for counter service on the pay point is a bit cheeky though.

Walking in to get served, staff were not smiling or welcoming. A young boy took order and he seemed polite. Called up to pay, two young girls at counter neither wearing hair nets and one not even wearing a hat. Their hair hanging out over serving the food. Have never seen this In a chip shop. Still no smiles. No hygiene certificate on display. The hair out really bothered me especially as they were touching it then touching food. Surprisingly the food tasted nice, although it was cold. Would not recommend. Hard to believe they are along from the best chip shop in Scotland and not even trying to up their game.

We visited this chip shop after a disappointing and expensive visit to Cromars in St Andrews. What a difference a few miles makes! The portions were larger, the chips tasted better, and we didn’t have to wait 40 minutes. If you crave fish and chips while staying in St Andrews it’s well worth the short drive!

My sister had told me this was a great chippy and she certainly wasn’t making that up. It means waiting a few minutes but I always prefer it when the fish is cooked to order as it is so fresh when you get to enjoy it. The size of fish was brilliant and the chips were really fresh too. We sat outside on a lovely afternoon and had great family time.

Avoid until the manager/owner recognises that her behaviour is incompatible with hospitality, although I suspect she's not the type of person to take feedback. I wish I'd read the reviews before I spent my money there. I didn't enjoy seeing an elderly fellow customer shouted at about a coffee, or other customers being told off about where they sat, and I didn't enjoy seeing a staff member being told off either. I also didn't enjoy hearing plates crashing about, if you have an open kitchen you might be aware of this. The food was nice enough but overpriced and the menu is very limited. I'm afraid there are no reasons to visit the cafe that are greater than the reasons not to visit. I'll be back to Culross but not to Biscuit.

We had a bad experience at this place. We went around 10 pm for drinks as we were told this place is opened till 11pm. But the staff and shift supervisor told us they are closed as there was no guests and they were not professional to welcome us. It was very obvious from their voice and look that they didn't want to serve us. Me, my brother and our teen children were visiting Scotland and it was very harsh to see such unprofessional and weird customer service. It was also obvious from their approach that they were mean to our color of skin and not happy to see color customers. Even though we talk about diversity but still people are not mentally and emotionally accept the diversity.

Dear God. Didn’t think this place could get worse but it has. Not enough staff, tables not cleared, no water in hot water urn, no clean mugs, no milk in coffee machine and the one poor staff member totally run off his feet trying to cope eventually collapsed with the stress of it all. Ambulance was called so I do hope the poor man is okay. Absolutely appalling that Morrisons management have let this go on for so long! Staff your cafe or shut it down!! We sat for an hour and a half and dud not receive our order especially after staff member collapsed. Werent offered a refund as till couldn’t be opened???? But were given a had written credit note for a free meal next time. After a second disastrous visit to this cafe I’m not sure I would return again!! Management get it sorted!!!

Carrot cake nothing like what it use to be, tastes like a betty crocket packet cake mix, famous fudge doughnuts taste bland and are very very expensive, feels like profit is getting put before quality, but i suppose directors need there bonuses, but on a lighter note the staff in the shop were brilliant. Pity about the cakes, sorry.
